Betty Odette

Enjoyed life, loving mother and grandmother
Betty Louise Odette, 79, of Mineral Bluff, died Feb. 12, 2005.
She was preceded in death by Louis C. Odette.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed life to its fullest.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law William C. Odette of Mineral Bluff, Michael and Gerri Odette of Yalaha, Fla., David and Dawn Odette of Washington, D.C., and Louis R. Odette of Ferndale, Mich.; daughters and sons-in-law Marsha and Peter Rabaut of Commerce, Mich., and Molly and Pete Gaitanoglou of Blue Ridge; sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy and Carl Hewitt of Lansing, Mich., and Marie and Leo Beacham of San Antonia, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law Jack and Sharon Stockwell of Bay City, Mich., and David and Gracie Stockwell of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister-in-law Edna Stockwell of Manton, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. John Cochran officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Chastain Memorial Park.
Pallbearers included grandchildren Pete Rabaut, Steve Rabaut, Jennifer Farr, Mark Odette, Holly Barton and Heather Barton.
Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Olivia Odette, Andrea Odette and Christopher Gaitanoglou.
The Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.

Edna Bowling

Employed for 29 years by Fannin school system
Edna Mae Bowling, 95, of Mineral Bluff, died Feb. 20, 2005, at her home.
She was born May 17, 1909, in Fannin County to late Arthur and Jessie Smith Panter.
A member of the Williamstown Methodist Church, Bowling worked for the Fannin County School system in McCaysville for 29 years serving in the cafeteria.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman R. Bowling; sons Philip Panter and Billy Bowling; and daughter-in-law Joann Bowling.
Survivors include her son Johnny Bowling and his fiancee Norma Ledford of Mineral Bluff; son and daughter-in-law Tommy and Virginia Bowling of Marietta; daughters-in-law Evelyn Panter of McCaysville and Clara Bowling; brothers and sisters-in-law Roy and Helen Panter of Blue Ridge and Don and Evanell Panter of Morganton; sisters and brother-in-law Betty Panter of Morganton and Robbie and Rudy Luedke of Morganton; nine grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 23 from the chapel of the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Martin and the Rev. Charles Black officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Panwill Cemetery. Pallbearers included Matt Bowling, Andy Bowling, John Bowling, Brian Bowling, Todd Pack and Stacy Van Zandt.

Charles Danner

Survived by family, formerly of Ducktown
Charles Skid Danner, 72, of Griffin, Ga., formerly of Ducktown, died Feb. 17, 2005.
Survivors include wife Joann Danner; daughters and sons-in-law Lynn and Don Franklin, Sandra and Harry Reeves and Ann Easter; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Wanda Danner; sisters and brothers-in-law Elice Lee and Joyce Harrison, Alyne and Vick Vandergriff and Marilyn and T.J. Taylor; six grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Feb. 20 in the Mine City Baptist Church with Derrick Danner officiating.

John Breedlove

Resident of Blue Ridge, survived by family
John Brian Breedlove, of Blue Ridge, died Feb. 17, 2005.
Survivors include his daughter Emily Breedlove of Blue Ridge; son Brian Breedlove of Blue Ridge; mother Linda Breedlove of Copperhill; brothers Dewayne Breedlove and Kenny Breedlove, both of Blue Ridge, Bobby Breedlove of Monroe, Ga., and Wally Dean of Copperhill; uncles; aunts; nieces; nephews; special friend Shan Grizzle of Blue Ridge; and mother of his children Marie Faulk of Louisville, Ky.
Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. in Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Baugh and the Rev. Weldon Davis officiating.
Pallbearers included Derek Davis, Larry Byers, Fritz Baugh, Kenny Breedlove and Bobby Breedlove.
iIntermentfollowed in the Confidence UMC Cemetery.

Cathryn Goedert

School teacher in Blue Ridge, devoted Christian
Cathryn Highnote Goedert, born June 3, 1915 in Webster County, Ga., died Feb. 11, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert D. Goedert; a son; and grandson.
She is survived by her brother Bobby Grover Highnote of Dawson, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Wanda Goedert of Alma, Ga. and Karl and Sheryll Goedert of Ocala, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law Carol Tsekouras of Gainesville, Fla., Dale and Bob Bach of Macclenny, Beth Bozeman and John Baird of Jacksonville; Linda and Jerry Kiel of Jacksonville; Cathy Goedert of Alexandria, Va., and Theresa Saleh of Ocala; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Goedert was high school valedictorian and, in 1935, graduated from Georgia State College for Women with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught school in Blue Ridge, where she met her husband. She has been an active and devoted member of Murray Hill Presbyterian Church for 53 years where she taught Sunday school, was an elder of the church as well as an officer of the Presbyterian Women at the local and presbytery levels. She delivered Meals on Wheels from 1972 until 2000 except for a few years while she cared for her husband, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. After he died in 1996, she traveled extensively with her children. She made four trips to Europe where she visited 12 countries. She also traveled throughout the U.S. including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
She was a devoted Christian whose faith carried her through the many trials of life and whose certainty of the resurrection gave her peace in her final days. It now gives comfort to all who love her.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Murray Hill Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Douglas LaPointe, the Rev. Clyde Wray and the Rev. Timothy Simpson officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Oaklawn Cemetery. Her eight grandsons served as pallbearers. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of America, 2123 Mango Place, Jacksonville, Fla., 32207.

Robert Gray

Member of the DAV and Mount Gilead Baptist
Robert Bent Gray, of Blue Ridge, died Feb. 21, 2005, in St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta.
Gray was a member of New Mount Gilead Baptist Church and a member of the DAV.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Nell Gray of Blue Ridge; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Junior and Bertha Ballew of Bessemer City, N.C., Johnny Ballew of Bessemer City, Willia Nell Gray of Blue Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. in Henry-Cochran Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Mann, and the Rev. Bill McGill officiating.
The eulogy was given by Minister Bobby Bearden.
Music was provided by Valerie Taylor.
Pallbearers included Jimmy Gray, Johnny Gray, Danny Gray, Jimmy Rice, Gene Davis and Keith Mintz.

Dorothy Parris

Resident of Blairsville, survived by family
Dorothy Mary Parris, 79, of Blairsville, died July 18, 2005, in DeKalb County, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Parris.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law Frank and Charlotte Parris of Madison, Ga., and Tony Parris of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law Marie and Robert Lingerfelt of Lilburn, Ga.; grandson Nathan Lingerfelt; and great-grandchildren Nicole and James Lingerfelt.
Funeral services were held July 20, at 4 p.m. from the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Newton and the Rev. Thomas Ghann officiating. Music was provided by Peggy and Ed Jenkins.
Pallbearers were Carl Jacobs M.D., Tony Parris, Benny Bennett, Nathan Lingerfelt, Leonard Hunter and Ron Newton.

Pearl Richards

Toccoa Baptist and Red Hat Society member
Pearl McClure “Pete” Richards, 75, of Morganton, died July 15, 2005, at the Limestone Heritage Nursing Home in Gainesville, Ga.
Richards was born April 24, 1930, in Cherokee County, N.C., to the late Thomas McClure and the late Amy Lovingood McClure.
She was a member of Toccoa Baptist Church and Peachtree Plantations Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by husband Johnny William Richards; Virginia Richards, Porter McClure, Lloyd McClure, Noah McClure, Emma Little, Jerry McClure and Albert McClure.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Donny Gordy of Braselton, Ga., and Shirley and Jim Collins of Morganton; grandchildren Michael Collins of Atlanta, Heather and Clay Kersting of Winder, Ga., and Kelly Collins of Atlanta; great-grandchildren Hope Gordy of Winder and Chase Kersting of Winder; brothers Bobby McClure of Culberson and Hadley McClure of Blairsville; and sister and brother-in-law Doris Jean and Clyde Abercrombie of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Funeral services were held July 18, at 2 p.m. from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Grady Ray officiating.

Pallbearers included Jimmy McClure, Eugene McClure, Clay Kersting, Carlos Wilson and Jeff Smythe.

Dalton Howell

Electrical engineer and competitive bull rider
Dalton Ray Howell, 27, of Mull Road in Morganton, died July 17, 2005, in Van, Texas, following an accident.
Howell was born on Oct. 31, 1977, in Mobile, Ala., the son of Gary and Rose Deese Howell.
He graduated from North Georgia College and Georgia Technical School and received a master’s degree in electrical engineering. At the time of his death, he was employed with Cherokee Heating and Air.
One of his favorite pastimes was bull riding. He started competing at the age of 17 and had competed in many rodeos in the tri-state area.
Howell attended Refuge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents Gary and Rose Howell of Morganton; sisters and brothers-in-law Tina and Mike Roberts of Calhoun and Patricia and Johnny Holland of Wildwood, Fla.; brothers and one sister-in-law Nathan Howell of Blairsville and Johnny and Pam Howell of Calhoun; nieces and nephews Zyndel, Eric, Allen, Stacy, Maria, Dominique and Deonna; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held July 22, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Justin Dickey officiating. Special music was presented by Jason White.
Pallbearers included Jason White, Jason Roberts, Joe Roberts, Kevin Taylor, Brannon Elliott, Brent Barry and Mark Johnson. iIntermentfollowed in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.
