Frederick Morgan

First Baptist Church of Woodstock member
Frederick Grant Morgan, 22, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Blue Ridge, died Jan. 7, 2006, in Flint, Texas.
Morgan was born in Woodstock, Ga., on Aug. 18, 1983.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock.
Survivors include his wife Charity Morgan of Flint, Texas; son Jason Hunter Morgan of Flint; step daughter Hannah Rachelle Austin of Flint; parents Dr. Bill and Toni Morgan of Blue Ridge; and brothers Richard Clayton Goodyear of Rock Hill, S.C., William Locksley Morgan of Hansville, Wash., and Seth Alexander Morgan of Blue Ridge.
Funeral services were held Jan. 9, from the chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with Dr. Johnny Hunt and the Rev. Renny Ryder officiating. Music was provided by Marji Elzey.
Pallbearers were Locke Morgan, Clay Goodyear, Steve Rusmisell, Seth Morgan, Derek Goodyear and John Rice.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant Morgan to Faith Family Ministries, P.O. Box 1200, Blue Ridge, Ga., 30513.
iIntermentfollowed in the Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery.
Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.

Mickey Reagan

Retired nurse and survived by family
Betty (better known as Mickey) Reagan, 73, of White Path Way, Ellijay, formerly of Blairsville, died Jan. 11, 2006, following an extended illness.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1932, in Fulton County, Ga., the daughter of the late Billy Howard Johnson and the late Juanita Camp Johnson.
Reagan had retired in 1976 as a nurse with Autumn Breeze in Marietta. She had also worked at the Young Harris College Clinic.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather Harris Camp in 1979; and brother Billy Johnson in 1962.
Reagan was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years Ralph Clifford Reagan of Ellijay; daughter Susie Barnes of Morganton; brothers and sister-in-law Jack Johnson of Gainesville, and Stephen and Phyllis Camp of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; grandchildren Andrew Barnes of Blairsville, and Brandy Barnes, formerly of Blairsville; great-grandchildren Russell Barnes, Logan Russell and Madison Barnes; special friend Brenda Wiggins of Blairsville; nieces and nephews Michael Johnson of Rockmart, Ga., Jay Johnson of Cobb County, David Lee Johnson of Douglasville, Jackie L. Dyer, Kim Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jamie Johnson and Gregory Camp; many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service and interment was held Jan. 14, from the Owltown Church of God cemetery with the Rev. Danny Myers and Chaplain Jerry Johnson officiating. Music was presented by nephew Gregory Camp.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to a children’s hospital of your choice in Reagan’s memory.
Friends may sign the family guest book and send condolences on line at www .mountainviewfuneralhome. com. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

Earl Patterson

Tufting machine operator for Mohawk Industries
Earl Stanley Patterson, 56, of Blue Ridge, died Jan. 8, 2006, in the Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge.
He was born in Union County on May 9, 1949.
Patterson worked as a tufting machine operator for Mohawk Industries in Dalton, Ga., for many years.
He was preceded in death by sister Mary Lou Key.
Survivors include sons Bill Patterson of Blue Ridge and Ricky Patterson of Mineral Bluff; mother Edith White of Blue Ridge; brothers L.C. Fortenberry and Tommy Fortenberry, both of Blue Ridge; and grandchildren Kristy Patterson, Brittany Patterson, Kayla Patterson, Caitlyn Patterson and Samantha Patterson.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12, from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. Johnny Rhodes officiating. Music was by the A.C. Caylor Family.
Pallbearers included L.C. Fortenberry, Tommy Fortenberry, Jeff Tipton, Pete Tipton, Frank Patterson, Sal Biscardi, Jerry Cole and Lloyd Ware.
iIntermentfollowed in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Armell Scroggs

Enjoyed to sing, member of Liberty Hill Methodist
Tressie “Armell” Scroggs, 79, of Blairsville, died Jan. 9, 2006, in the Stonhenge Assisted Living in Blairsville.
Born in Morganton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Goodman Brackett and Vera Odom Brackett.
She worked as a lunchroom attendant in the Jonesboro School System and was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.
Scroggs enjoyed to sing very much.
She was preceded in death by brothers Horace Brackett, Fred A. Brackett and Waldo Brackett; and sister Bennie Lee Fagon.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years Clarence Lucius Scroggs of the home; sister Anna Bell Self of Jonesboro, Ga.; and a host of family, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Jan. 11, from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. Jennings Neeld and the Rev. Charles Black officiating. Music was by Betty Gould and Beverly Thompson.
Pallbearers included Mark Scroggs, Randy Zimmerman, Chuck Phillips, Ricky Daves, Van Pickelsimer, Steve Ross, David Owenby, Scott Cruse and Kenith Pickelsimer.
Honorary pallbearers were fellow employees of G.M., members of Liberty Hill United Methodist, members of Concord Baptist Church, and all family and friends.
iIntermentfollowed in the Concord Church Cemetery.

Billy Deal

Retired from Bethlehem Steel after 41 years
William John (Billy) Deal, 74, died Dec. 21, 2005.
He was the son of the late Homer and Ruby Thomas Deal, born Nov. 12, 1931, in Buzzard Roost, Ducktown, Tenn.
Deal retired from Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point, Md., after 41 years of service. He owned and operated The Riding Stables in the Susquehanna Trails for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Anna Mullaney Deal; children Vicki Lynn Waltermyer of Airville, Pa., Terry Lee Latschar of Gettysburg, Pa., and Tracy Shawn Deal of Fawn Grove, Pa.; grandchildren Heidi Taylor and Bradley J. Waltermyer, both of Airville, David Deal and Tiffany Deal, both of Fawn Grove, Megan Schabdach and Eric Schabdach, both of Gettysburg; great-grandchildren Matthew Taylor, Mark Taylor and Luke Taylor, with one great-grandchild on the way baby Waltermyer, all of Airville; brother Sonny Deal of Copperhill; sisters Betty Jones and Joan Griggs, both of Copperhill; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held Dec. 23, from the Harkins Funeral Home of Delta, Pa., with Deal’s son-in-law John D. Waltermyer, pastor of Tabernacle Regular Baptist Church in Airville, officiating.
iIntermentwas held at the Bryansville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Anne Thompson

Native of South Carolina, retired school teacher
Anne Varn Thompson, 80, of Morganton, formerly of Dunwoody, Ga., died Jan. 11, 2006, after complications following surgery.
Thompson was born and grew up in Beaufort, S.C., and graduated with honors from Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
She was a retired elementary public school teacher and was more recently very involved in both church and community volunteer activities.
Thompson was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years L.P. (Pat) Thompson Jr. in 2001.
Survivors include children and their spouses Eleanor and Brock C. Timmons, L. Patterson III and Maniya Baredo Thompson, Christine and Douglas L. Hill, and Anne and Jim S. Pierce; grandchildren Whitney and Michael T. Anderson, Drew Cameron Timmons, Claire Anne Pierce, Christine Thompson Pierce, and Sarah Varn Pierce; sister Frances Varn Bass; and brother Rivers L. Varn Jr.
A memorial service was held Jan. 16, at the Cherry Log Christian Church in Cherry Log with the Rev. Chris Michael and Dr. Fred Craddock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the new building fund at Cherry Log Christian Church, P.O. Box 289, Cherry Log, Ga., 30522.
The National Cremation Society of Lilburn, Ga., was in charge.

Robert Churchill

Southern Pride Builders owner, of the Baptist faith
Robert Lanier Churchill Jr. 43, of Blairsville, formerly of Gainesville, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at his home.
He was born on July 14, 1962, in Atlanta. He was the son of the late Robert L. Churchill Sr., and the late Edrell Carter Churchill.
He had been living in Blairsville for the past seven years. He was the owner of Southern Pride Builders of North Georgia and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sons Robert Churchill III, of Blue Ridge, Chris Churchill, of Blairsville, Nichole Cox Churchill of Ohio; sister Barbara Churchill Behanna of Snellville, Ga., Julie Anna Churchill of Covington, Ga., Toni Frances Pisselee of Palm Coast, Fla., brother Glenn Carter Churchill of Louisville, Ky., his fiancée Sheri Biemeret of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services were held Jan. 26, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta in Churchill’s memory.
Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.
