Elwyn Summerford

Survived by family, resident of Blue Ridge
Elwyn Eugene “Red” Summerford, 90, of Blue Ridge, died Nov. 22, 2006, at Heritage Health Care.
Mr. Summerford was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Wilcox, Ga., to the late Walter David and Georgia Antoinette Noble Summerford. He was a self-employed cabinet maker who moved to the Blairsville area in 1964 and lived there until 1992 when he moved to Blue Ridge. Mr. Summerford was of the Christian faith and attended The House Of Prayer Church in Blairsville.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah L. Fowler Summerford.
Survivors include daughter Ann Summerford Carrato of Cartersville, Ga.; granddaughter Robin Hall; grandsons Ed Hall and Hap and Kim Hall; great-granddaughters Valyn Hall and Lindsey Hall; great-grandsons Aaron C. Bewley, Jacob P. Hall and Luke Hall; sister-in-law Francis Summerford; and close friends Richard and Edye Daetwyler, Ronald and Sharon Bush, Vicky Hitt and Sonya Lamanac.
Funeral services were held Nov. 25 from the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan officiating.
Graveside services followed in House of Prayer cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Helton officating.
Pallbearers included Richard Daetwyler, Ronald Bush, Dave Hancock, Gary Smith, Buddy King and Ronnie Lamanac.
The Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville was in charge of the arrangements.

Ella Watkins

Survived by family, resident of Suches
Ella Watkins, 92, of Suches, died Nov. 25, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness,
Mrs. Watkins was a native and lifelong resident of Union County, a homemaker and member of Mount Pleasant Hill Baptist Church #2 in Suches. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Isabell Harkins Gregory.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Loy Watkins; infant daughter Ruth Watkins; brothers Ellis, Arlie, Charlie, Harley and Arvel Gregory; sisters Ethel Carver and Velma Watkins.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law Paul Watkins of Calhoun, Ga., Fred and Glynda Watkins of Gainesville, Ga., Arvel and Sue Watkins of Mansfield, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law Mary and Hugh Reynolds of Cumming, Ga., Jean and Warren Jackson of Gainesville, Edna and Jerry Greer of Tifton, Ga.; sisters Lula Mae Parker of Suches and Effie Lou Blackburn of Blairsville; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Nov. 28 at the Mount Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. William Phillips officiating.

A.J. Wilkerson

Vietnam War veteran, survived by family
A.J.Wilkerson, 63, of Morganton, died Nov. 23, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, following an extended illness.
Mr. Wilkerson was born on July 5, 1943, in Wilcox County, Ga., to the late Jack and Irene Copeland Wilkerson. He retired from the federal government after 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Wilkerson was a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Ewing.
Survivors include his loving wife Nella Ruth Williams of the home; daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Brian Land of Chattanooga; son Kenneth Ewing of Morganton; sisters and brothers-in-law Juanita and Tony Wallen of Sugar Hill, Ga., Barbara Ann and David Mathis of Suwanee, Ga., Helen and Melvin Rhodes of Augusta, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law Ralph Wilkerson of Suwanee, Thomas and Joan Wilkerson of Ringgold, Ga., Dale and Myra Wilkerson of Oakwood; grandchild Emaleigh Land; and other relatives and friends.
Services were held Nov. 26, from the Mountain View Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas and the Rev. Allen Swafford officiating.
Special music was by Luther Thomas, Sally Roberson, and Allen and Linda Swafford.
iIntermentfollowed in the Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery with military honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Pallbearers included Taft Patton, Harry Wayne Herrin, Garland Herrin, Rocky Land, Larry Stidham and Richmond Land.
Honorary pallbearers included Steve Kimsey, Frank Burnette and Gene Jolly.
Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Buttram

Loving wife, mother and grandmother
Helen “Pauline” Buttram, 81, of Blue Ridge, died Nov. 29, 2006, at her home following an extended illness.
Born in McCaysville, she was the daughter of the late Garnett and Elsie Russell Queen. She retired from the Fannin County School System as a bus driver. Mrs. Buttram was a long time member of the Friendship #3 Baptist Church, an avid gardener and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Frank Buttram, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law Winston F. and Janet Buttram of Gainesville, Ga., and Calvin L. Buttram of Blue Ridge; daughter and son-in-law Phyllis A. and Waldo Davis of Blue Ridge; brother and sister-in-law Ezell and Loraine Queen of McCaysville; sister and brother-in-law Peggy and the late Hobert Galloway of Epworth; and grandchildren Sandi Buttram, Erica Davis, Daniel Davis and Christopher and Nycki Buttram.
Funeral services were Dec. 1 from the chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with the Rev. Danny Queen, the Rev. James Howard Galloway and the Rev. Jim Crews officiating. Music was by the Helping Hand Church Choir.
iIntermentfollowed in the Friendship #3 Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Galloway, Bryan Galloway, Danny Carroll, Bobby Dills, Raymond Montgomery and David Ballew.

Irene McGill

Survived by family, resident of Blue Ridge
Irene Huffman McGill, 88, of Blue Ridge died Dec. 1, 2006, at Heritage Health Care of Blue Ridge.
She was a native of Blue Ridge and the daughter of the late Hill and Mary Ann Thomas Huffman. Mrs. McGill was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sons, the Rev. Donnie McGill and Dallas McGill.
She is survived by her husband William Hoyt McGill of Blue Ridge; daughter and son-in-law Betty Sue and Walter Baker of Pensacola, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law William Hoyt Jr. and Robbie McGill of Morganton; sisters Ruby Lewis and Ruth Callihan, both of Blue Ridge, and Margaret Ann Cheatham of Mineral Bluff; brothers Bill Huffman of Akron, Ohio, and Junior Huffman of Blue Ridge; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Dec. 3 from Sugar Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Weeks and the Rev. Jim Gilliland officiating. Music was by Patsy Beavers.

Pallbearers were Steve, Wesley, Jerry, Keith, Tommy and Scotty Huffman, and Bob Thrasher. Honorary pallbearers were William Earl Thrasher and Frank Hugh Huffman.

Kimberly Minor

Loving wife, mother, daughter and sister
Kimberly S. “Kim” Minor, 34, of Mineral Bluff, died Dec. 1, 2006.
She had been of the Luthern faith for many years and was a member of the Hope Luthern Church in Ellijay. Mrs. Minor had suffered from Marfan Syndrome for some time and had become active with families dealing with the disease; she was the North Georgia Contact representative for the National Marfan Foundation. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister, but the sun set and rose on her son, Jonathan.
Survivors include her husband of nine years, Shannon E. Minor of the home; one son Jonathan Minor of the home; daughter Kayla Elliott of Lake Hamilton, Fla.; mother Sandra Finnila of Mineral Bluff; father Donald Klotz of Resaca, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law Kelly and Laura Klotz of Claremont, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law Diane and Jeff Mallory of Frankfort, Mich., and Deborah and David Martin of Grand Marais, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Dec. 5 from the Hope Luthern Church in Ellijay with the Rev. Earl Schaefer and the Rev. Dave Smedley officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the Chastain Memorial Park cemetery.

Madelaine Ryan

Avin gardener, enjoyed watching birds
Madelaine Murphy Ryan, 85, of Mineral Bluff died Nov. 30, 2006.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph Oliver and Beatrice McCrew Murphy. Mrs. Ryan was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching birds.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, John Francis Ryan Sr., and a son, John Francis Ryan Jr.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Robert S. and Dorothy Ryan of Mineral Bluff; sister Louise Rogers of Slippery Rock, Pa.; grandchildren Jamie and Lelia Ryan of Mineral Bluff and Barbara Ryan; and great grandchildren Amanda and Lucas Ryan.
Funeral services were Dec. 3 from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating.

Maxine Davis

Survived by family, resident of Morganton
Maxine Brown Davis, 75, of Morganton died Dec. 1, 2006, at Piedmont Mountain Side Hospital in Jasper.
Mrs. Davis was born July 11, 1931, in Polk County, Tenn., to the late James George and Minnie Burtz Brown. A member of Toccoa Baptist Church, she was the office manager of the Blue Ridge Telephone Co. for 47 years.
She was preceded in death by husband Paul Frank Davis and son John Davis.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Paula and Roger Gregory of Baltimore, Md.; sons and daughters-in-law Terry Davis and Tim Davis both of the Lakewood community, Larry and Sandi Davis of Morganton, Mark and Derema Davis of Marietta, Ga.; brother Johnny Brown of Epworth; granddaughters Suzanne and Alan Langford, Kelly, Karen, and Taylor Davis; grandsons Eliot and Alexander Gregory, Troy and Hollie Davis and Nathan Davis; and great-grandchildren Margaret and Zachary Langford and Elijah and Gabriel Davis.
Funeral services were Dec. 4 from the Toccoa Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Johnson, the Rev. Grady Ray and the Rev. Jimmy Ritter officiating. Music was by the A.C. Caylor Family.
