Christine Byram

Survived by family, native of Fannin County
Christine Pelfrey Byram, 63, of Leesburg, Ala. died Jan. 15, 2007, at her residence.
Native of Fannin County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Della Brown Pelfrey. She retired from BellSouth and was a member of New Cannan Baptist Church.
Mrs. Byram was preceded in death by sisters Rethel Patterson Burgess and Margie Franklin and brothers Calvin and Joe Pelfrey.
Survivors include her husband Wayne Byram, of the home; brothers William Pelfrey of Wadsworth, Ohio, Gene and Kenneth Pelfrey both of Blue Ridge, and Charles Pelfrey of Brownsville, Ky.; sisters Lois Patterson and Frances Thomas both of Blue Ridge, and Loretta Hedden of McCaysville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 18 from the chapel of Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with the Rev. Marvin Young and the Rev. James Howard Galloway. Music was by Lisa Deal and Beverly Thompson.
iIntermentfollowed in the New Cannan Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers included Steve and Terry Hedden, Ronnie Thomas, Gary Franklin, Lonnie and Billy Pelfrey.
Honorary pallbearers included Billy Thomas, Willie Young, Bill Goss, Jimmy Franklin, Bobby Thomas, Carl Franklin and Carl Payne.
Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.

Sybil Davenport

Survived by family, resident of Epworth
Sybil Christine Davenport, 88, of Epworth died Jan. 16, 2007, at Life Care Center of Copper Basin.
Born Nov. 23, 1918, in Gilmer County, she was the daughter of the late Sollie and Annie Parks Spivey. She was a member of the Hipps Chapel Methodist Church.
Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her husband Willard Davenport and children Marjorie, Jerry, Mildred and Martha.
Survivors include son Donald Davenport of Ellijay; daughters Linda Cox of Blue Ridge, Carolyn Patterson of St. Simons, Ga., Nancy Gregory of Epworth, Alice Shepard of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sisters Catherine Ridley of Gastonia, N.C, Gerthlee Painter of Dalton; brothers Mayford Spivey of Decatur, Ga., Charles Spivey of Calhoun, Willard Spivey of Ellijay; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 18 from the Hipps Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Delmar Davenport and the Rev. Ernest German officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers included Jamie Cox, Richie Reece, Ryan Reece, Jessie Patterson, Tylor Hicks and Shane Hogan. Honorary pallbearers included Randy Olvey, Kevin Teems, Austin Teems, Gregory Shepard, Glenn Shep-ard, Keshia Cox, Carly Cox, Kayla Cox, Alisha Winkler, Melanie Hogan, Anna Hogan, Annah-Nichole Hogan, Melanie Hogan Sluder and Tammy Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hipps Chapel Methodist Church.
Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville was in charge.

Alva Welch

Native of Fannin County, survived by family
Alva Thomas Welch, 85, formerly of McCaysville died Jan. 14, 2007, in Knoxville, after a long illness.
She was a long time resident of Daytona Beach, Fla.
Native of Fannin County, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Josephine Lock Thomas Abernathy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Claburn Welch and brothers James, Arvil and Arthur William Thomas.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Christine and Gordon E. Parton of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren Sheila Parton and David Davis and Eddie and Valerie Capps Parton; two great-grandchildren Chad Davis and Brittany Waggoner; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at Highland South Memorial Park in Knoxville on Jan. 15.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, P. O. Box 22, Knoxville, Tenn., 37901 or to your local hospice.

Carolyn Acton

Retired counselor, survived by family
Carolyn Williams Perdue Acton, 63, of Ducktown died Jan. 16, 2007.
She retired from the Fannin County High School as a counselor. She was a member of the McCaysville First Baptist Church and active in the choir as well as the Prime Time Choir. Mrs. Acton was a graduate of Berry College and West Georgia College. She was a member of the Fannin County Retired Teachers Association and the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international sorority for retired women educators. Mrs. Acton was a member of the Golden Club Bowling League at Fannin Lanes.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Billy R. Acton, of the home; daughter Lydia Acton C. Land of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; son Raymond Acton of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brother Herbie Williams of Tal-lapoosa, Ga.; grandchildren Monique and Ariel Comeau of Palm Beach Gardens; nephew Bryan Tucker of Oxford, Ala.; cousin Teresa Williams Sanders of Con-yers, Ga.; and nieces Michelle Williams Blocker of Dallas, Ga., and Rhonda Williams Lemon of Loganville, Ga.
Funeral services were held Jan. 19 from the First Baptist Church of McCaysville with the Rev. Garry Barber officiating. Music was by The Prime Time Choir, Clarence Burlingame, Judith Barber, Glenn Hughes, and Barbara Robinson. Eulogy was given by the Rev. Harry Gilbert.
iIntermentfollowed in Crestlawn Cemetery.
The deacons of First Baptist Church of McCaysville served as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Morganton Mountain Town Baptist Association Debt Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 1167, Blue Ridge, Ga., 30513.

Sylvia Prieto

Loving wife, mother and grandmother
Sylvia Josephine Prieto, 80, died Dec. 31, 2006, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville after a long illness.
Born Feb. 4, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Anna Wieczorowski Thomas.
She was a selfless, caring, giving person who loved spending time with her grandchildren, feeding birds, reading, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, and fishing. Her love, patience, and tolerance will always be remembered. She was a great lady, loving wife, compassionate mother, and wonderful grandmother.
Mrs. Prieto was preceded in death by her children Marianne and Matthew.
Survivors include her husband John Prieto of Blue Ridge; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Debra Prieto of Colleyville, Texas, Tom and Cathy Prieto of Grafton, Wis., Mark and Barbara Prieto of Louisville, Ky., and David and Rhonda Prieto of Oshkosh, Wis.; daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Mark Grass of New Market, Md., and Lisa Prieto of Atlanta; six grandchildren; sisters Barbara Holloway of Mount Prospect, Ill., and Mary Notbusch of Ocala, Fla.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held by the family. Her final resting place will be All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill.

Daniel O’Connell

U.S. Navy veteran, survived by family
Daniel John O’Connell, 72, of McCaysville died Jan. 17, 2007, at his home.
Born Aug. 14, 1934, in Orange County, N.Y., he was the son of the late Daniel and Marguerite Peg McCormick. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. O’Connell was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard an aircraft carrier during the Korean conflict. After retiring from BellSouth, he made his home in Fannin County. He was a volunteer with the Fannin County Chamber of Commerce, Fannin County Library and F.L.A.G.
Survivors include wife Jacquelyn M. Piatt O’Connell, of the home; sons Daniel, Mark and Kelly, all of New Jersey; daughters Kathleen, Elizabeth and Deirdre, all of New Jersey; sisters Kathleen Luckey and Sharon Bohan of Port Jervis, N.Y.
There was a private interment in Crestlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to F.L.A.G. in Epworth.

Richard Olnick

U.S. Army JAG Corps veteran, avid sportsman
Richard Michael Olnick, 65, died Jan. 16, 2007, at Duke University Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Chattanooga on Sept. 14, 1941, he was the son of Dr. Herbert and Mrs. Praise Olnick. Growing up in Macon, Ga., he graduated from Mercer University and with honors from Mercer University School of Law, where he was editor of the Law Review. He was a member of the Georgia Bar and served in the U.S. Army JAG Corps.
As a generous philanthropist, Mr. Olnick supported many organizations including several in his parents’ community in Fannin County. Some of the recipients were the Episcopal Church of Blue Ridge, First Baptist Church of McCaysville, the Fannin County Library, and the Fannin County Scholarship Fund.
An avid sportsman, Mr. Olnick enjoyed golf, fishing, and bird hunting. He was highly regarded and respected for his wisdom, intelligence, and humor.
Survivors include his wife Helen; his father Dr. Herbert Olnick and his wife Doris of Epworth; sister and brother-in-law Jane and Terry Lightbourne of Nassau, Bahamas; daughters and son-in-law Cindy and Tom Davies of Los Angeles, Calif., Lisa Olnick of Boise, Idaho; stepdaughter and son-in-law Rachael and Will Peek of Columbus, Ga.; stepsons and daughters-in-law Frank and Claire Prince of Brevard, N.C., and Stuart and Denise Prince of Washington, DC.
A memorial service was held Jan. 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1146, Columbus, Ga., 31902; or the John B. Amos Cancer Center, 208 13th St., Columbus, Ga. 31901.

AILEEN W. McNULTY

Mrs. Aileen Wilson McNulty age 74 Davie, FL., formerly of Blairsville passed away on Tuesday evening Aug.23, 2005 after a long struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born to parents Hester and Irving Wilson in St. Petersburg, FL, on May 21, 1931, and married to Gerald R. McNulty on September of 1951.She is survived by her sister, Christine Ansell of Virginia, and by three loving children and their spouses: Kathy McNulty Webb and Alan, Theresa McNulty Morris and Fred all of Davie, FL., Patrick and Edna McNulty of Aniston, AL. She was the proud grandmother of Fred and Melissa Morris, Alan and Katie Webb, Danny and Shannon McNulty, and many nieces and nephews.
Aileen moved to Miami in 1961 when her husband”Jerry”became the news director at WPLG, Channel 10.She maintained many loving relationships with her family and friends from St. Petersburg, North Georgia, and church families at New Testament Baptist Church in Miami and the First Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA. She worked as a hair stylist in South Dade until Hurricane Andrew devastated her home in 1992.
Aileen was the victim of a shooting in 1982 which prompted her to devote her energies to victim’s rights causes. As a victim’s Advocate, she helped mobilze a grass-roots effort sponsored by the Honorable Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen to pass the first Victim’s Rights legislation in the state of Florida. She was present when Governor Robert Martinez signed the bill, and it became a model for legislation in other states.
In later years, she cared for her beloved husband”Jerry”while he struggled with ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease). After his death, she enjoyed time with her family, grandchildren and friends as her own disease progressed. She will always be remembered as a devoted and loving mother who is now at peace in Heaven with her beloved husband, her parents, and her Almighty Savior.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Aug.31, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Locke officiating. Mrs. McNulty will lie in state at the church from 1-2 pm on Wednesday where the family will meet with friends. iIntermentwill follow in the Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, in Hiawassee. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church of Blairsville, PO Box 2058 Blairsville, ga.30514 in Mrs. McNulty’s memory.

ANNE H. STALFORT

Mrs. Anne H. Stalfort age 55 of Deavers Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday August 26, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Stalfort was born on Aug.19, 1950 in Grand Rapids, MI., The daughter of the late John Hamer and the late Phyllis Crane Hamer. She had been employed with R Ranch in Dahlonega where she was an accountant. She was a veteran of the US Air force of the Vietnam War. She was preceded in death by her husband Gary Stalfort. Mrs. Stalfort attended the Disciple Of Christ Church.
Surviving Mrs. Stalfort are two daughters and one son in law, Jennifer and Kevin Gillispie of Blairsville, Natalie Wheeler of Blairsville, Her Fiance, Lum Brown of Blairsville, Seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Victoria Adams all of Blairsville, Christine and Ashley Parce, Joseph and Andrew Brown all of Blairsville, Many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the Union General Hospital Auxiliary in Mrs. Stalfort’s memory.
