CLARA LILLIAN HANSON

Mrs. Clara Lillian Hanson age 78 of Patrice Drive Blairsville passed away on Monday July 31, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Hanson was born on Aug.12, 1927 in Italy, The daughter, and one of seventeen children, of the late Gottfried Faltner and the late Maria Wiest Faltner. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Hanson in 1970.Mrs.Hanson was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving Mrs. Hanson are Judy Hoyer of Blairsville, four grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday Aug.12, 2006 at 3:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Mrs. Hanson’s favorite hymns will be presented for the service. In lieu of flowers if you wish the family requests that memorials may be made to Georgia Mountain Hospice of Jasper in Mrs.Hanson’s memory.

HOWARD D. HOLSAPPLE

Mr. Howard Duane Holsapple Sr. age 73 of Summerhill Ln. Blairsville formerly of West Palm Beach, FL. passed away on Saturday Aug.5, 2006 in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Atlanta following an extended illness. Mr. Holsapple was born on Feb.28, 1933 in Sullivan, IL., The son of the late Dale Holsapple and the late Mary Pifer Holsapple. He graduated from Sullivan High School and Iowa State University. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War. Before retiring he and his brother was in business and owned Colonial Products Inc. Mr. Holsapple served as an Elder and Bible teacher for over forty years and was a member and attended regularly at the First Christian Church in Mountain City, GA. since moving to Blairsville six years ago.
Surviving Mr. Holsapple are his loving wife, Jean M. Holsapple of Blairsville, two daughters and son in laws, Debra and Charles Pearce of Elizabethton, TN., Denae and Bryon Yontz of Watauga, TN., one son and daughter in law, Howard D. Jr. and Kelly Holsapple of Algonquin, IL., three step sons and daughter in laws, Michael and Kathleen Duncan of W. Palm Beach, FL., Lt. Col. Rodger and Betty Duncan of Faith, NC., and also of Iraq, Matthew and Mary El Duncan of Gainesville, FL., four brothers, Bob Holsapple of Cantrell, IA., Lee Holsapple of Macon, IL., Ivan Holsapple of Golden, MO., , Guy Holsapple of Macon, Il., one sister, Velma Schewmaker of Macon, IL., ten grandchildren, Megan and Nathan Pearce, Lyndsie and Lukes Yontz, Marshall and Hailee Holsapple, Daniel, Andrew, Cole and Kristen Duncan, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral Celebration will be held on Saturday Aug.12, 2006 at 12:30 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rusty Swafford Mission International Explosion and Rev.Lee Lantzer and Elder John Dressler officiating. Laura Lantzer and Charles Pearce will provide music. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Bud Hunter, Eric Lantzer, Benjamin Lantzer, Charlie Space, John Patterson and Leonard Hedrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Holsapple, Nathan Pearce, Lucas Yontz, Daniel and Cole Duncan. iIntermentwill follow in the Holsapple family cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. Respect and condolence to the family will be at the funeral home on Friday 11, 2006 from 6-9pm.The family desires those attending to please sign the family guest book and notes of condolence be sent to the home, 610 Summerhill Lane, Blairsville, GA.30512.

GLORIA WARREN JOHNSON

Mrs. Gloria Annette Warren Johnson age 62 of Golden Ridge Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday Aug.7, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Johnson was born on May 1, 1944 in Poughkeepie, NY., The daughter of the late Louis Warren and the late Eileen Lucas Warren. She was a member of AARP. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Orlando First Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Johnson are her loving husband, Glenn Warren of Blairsville, one brother, Frank Antenucci of WA., one sister, Virginia Butler of NY., Aunt, Gloria Dorn of Blue Ridge, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Johnson’s memory.

WILLIAM "DEACON BILL" DIEHL

Deacon William P. "Bill’Diehl age 72 of Hiawasse, GA. formerly of Springfield, OH. Passed to his eternal reward at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Diehl was born on June 18, 1934 in Springfield, OH., The son of the late Carl Diehl and the late Roberta Patchell Diehl. He was preceded in death by his parents and also by his sisters Phoebe Green and Carolyn Rinker. Deacon Bill was a member and officer of the Plumbers Union 519 and late representative of DCSMEC the Dade County School Board Maintenance Employee’s Committee. Deacon Bill was ordained to the Deaconate in Miami in 1992 and served in Stylus Parish in Miami for four years before retiring to Hiawassee, GA. in 1996.However his retirement days were short lived, He resumed his deaconate duties at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Blairsville, GA. almost immediately after arriving in Hiawassee. He and his wife Marie dedicated their lives to helping others, whether they were parishioners or members of the community, all were treated equally. He visited the sick in their homes, in hospitals, in nursing homes to offer them Holy Communion and comfort during their illness. At St. Francis he taught RCIA and brought many converts into the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of Council 11746 from 2000 to 2002.He was a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order and during his life has been dedicated to the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, where he made several Pilgrimages for prayer and meditation. He served in the US Navy as medical corpsman during the Korean War. Although he was no longer a Floridian he was still a very faithful Miami Hurricanes football fan.
Surviving Deacon Bill are his loving wife of forty years, Marie of Hiawassee, son Robert (Sue), daughter Kelly (Charles) Frasure, granddaughter, Kasey, many nieces and nephews, that loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Aug.14, 2006 at 1:00pm from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville with Father Richard Wise officiating. The North Ga. Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. Funeral services will also be held in Miami on Thursday at 10:00am from the St. Louis Catholic Church with interment following in the Woodlawn North cemetery. In Lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that donations may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church building fund in Blairsville, GA.2839 Young Harris Hwy.30512 in memory of Deacon Bill Diehl. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7-9pm.

JOHN BRETT HAWKINS

Mr. John Brett Hawkins age 23 of Murphy Hwy Mineral Bluff, GA. passed away on Friday March 16, 2007 at his home following a sudden illness. Mr. Hawkins was born on July 17, 1983 in Clay County, NC., the son of Kathy Diane Dyer Hawkins and Ira Ray Hawkins. He was a lifelong resident of the Mineral Bluff area. Mr. Hawkins attended the House of Prayer Church.
Surviving Mr. Hawkins are his mother, Kathy Dyer Hawkins of Hayesville, NC., father, Ira Ray Hawkins and fiancée, Leigh Anne Gatta of Mineral Bluff, two brothers and sister in laws, Jared and Heather Hawkins of Murphy, Jathan and Casey Hawkins of Copperhill, half brother and sister in law, Brandon and Amanda Davis, half sister, Stacy Davis, aunts and uncles, Sandra and Lee Chitwood of Blairsville, Glenda and Ricky Rice of Mineral Bluff, Kyle Hawkins of Mineral Bluff, nephew, Johnny Zane Hawkins, niece, Cameron Hawkins, cousins, Jason Rich, Mary Alexa Rice, Tiffany Chitwood, several extended cousins, uncles and aunts, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 20, 2007 at 7:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hadley Shields officiating. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-7pm.

CLARENCE FITZPATRICK

Mr. Clarence E. Fitzpatrick of McCombs Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday March 19, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 22, 2007. Burial will follow in the Oconee Memorial Park cemetery in Watkinsville, GA.

PARIS D. HANDY

US Army Korean War
Mr. Paris D. Handy age 80 of Crane Creek Young Harris, GA. passed away on Tuesday March 20, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Handy was born on Dec.15, 1926 in Towns County, the son of the late Lloyd R. Handy and the late Ethel I. Hooper Handy. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War. Paris was an old car enthusiast. He also loved nature and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva H. Kuykendall. Mr. Handy was a member of West Union Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Handy are his loving wife of fifty two years, Dorothy May Miller Handy of Young Harris, one daughter and son in law, Danita and Paul Janson of Maryville, TN., three sons and two daughter in laws, Dennis Handy of Young Harris, Donn and Stephany Handy of Ashville, NC., Mark and Robin Handy of Young Harris, one brother and sister in law, Hubert and Oleta Handy of Young Harris, five grandchildren, Tayha, Stephen, Cody, Cary and Lloyd, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday March 23, 2007 at 11:00am from the Old Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Sutton and Pastor Mark Handy officiating. Special music will be presented by Terry Hooper. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, David Kuykendall, Dennis Handy, Donn Handy, Mark Handy, Russ Cain and Stephen Janson. The following gentleman will serve as honorary pallbearers, Bill Homan, Max Hooper and James Howell. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that you may plant a tree or commit a random act of kindness in Mr. Handy’s memory. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery with the North Ga. Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.

DOROTHY ANN HAUKOM

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Haukom age 61 of Walnut Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday March 23, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Haukom was born on Aug.8, 1945 in Minniapolis, MN., the daughter of the late David Arnold and the late Mary Ann Zane. She had moved to Blairsville about seven years ago from Auburndale, FL. Dorothy was her sister Donna’s best friend. She will be not only missed by Donna, but by her whole family, and also, by all who knew her. Mrs. Haukom was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Haukom are two sons and one daughter in law, Todd Haukom of Upland, CA., Steven and Anna Haukom of New Port Beach, FL., one daughter and son in law, Nicole and Curtis Castro of Whittier, CA., one sister, Donna Hammond of Blairsville, Niece, Dana, and her husband B. J. Clark of Blairsville, great nephews, Dustin and Cody Meeker of Blairsville, as well as several other nieces and nephews in Florida. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union County Nursing Home in Mrs. Haukom’s memory.

Margaret Anne Faulk King

Mrs. Margaret Anne Faulk King was born in Foley, Alabama on April 21, 1936. She Graduated from Foley High School and received a BA degree in English from Samford University ( then Howard College ) in 1957. She married Elton Richard King, Jr. on August 16, 1957. She taught and was guidance counselor at Murphy High School in Atlanta from 1957 – 1965. She received a Masters of Education from Mercer University and taught for many years at Five Forks Middle School in Gwinnett County.
Margaret had three children – Carol King Lewis ( husband William Curtis Lewis ), Melissa King Rogers ( husband Brandon Rogers ), Eric Michael King ( wife Cheryl Stites King ), and four grandchildren – Zachary and Alexander King, Tyler Lewis and Jessica Lewis. Two brothers, Warren Faulk and wife Barbara, Michael Faulk and wife Sharon. She enjoyed music and was a member of the Decatur Civic Chorus for many years. She sang in choirs at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Avondale Estates Baptist Church, Smoke Rise Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville, Georgia. She enjoyed attending the Barbershop Harmony Society Convention to hear her son’s quartet perform. Long after her retirement, Margaret volunteered in the primary school in Blairsville to help children read. She was blessed with many friends and family members who " have made my life full and meaningful. "
Battling cancer for nearly twenty five years, Margaret devoted much of her life to encouraging hundreds of others and truly reflected Jesus to all who met her. She defied the odds with superhuman grace, and reminded us that dignity comes from within. She remains our hero.
There will be a funeral service at the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville, Ga. At 3 pm on Saturday, August 6, 2005. 859 Highway 515, Blairsville, Ga. 30512. Rev. Eddie Herring and Dr. J. Truett Gannon Officiating. Family will received friends 1 hour before the service.
A memorial service will be held at Smoke Rise Baptist Church at 3 pm on Saturday, August 13, 2005. Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain.

Rev. John Willis Garrett

Rev. John Willis Garrett age 79 of Ingram Road, Young Harris, Ga. passed away on Wednesday August 3, 2005, in the Piedmont Hospital, in Atlanta, Ga. after a sudden illness. Rev. Garrett was born on June 5, 1926 in Suches Ga., to the late Link Garrett and the late Martha Seabolt Garrett. He was a Preacher of 47 years, self employed carpenter, and life long resident of Union and Towns counties. A member of the New Harmony Baptist Church in Blairsville, Ga.
Surviving Rev. Garrett are his loving wife, of sixteen years Edith Zimmerman Garrett of Young Harris, 5 children Alvin and Elizabeth Garrett, Larry and Bonnie Garrett, Ila Mae and Dorsey Dockery, Arlene Garrett all of Blairsville, Ga. and Rose Garrett of Cartersville, Ga. Step children Teresa and Donny Gibson of Blairsville, Timothy and Sherry Ingram of Young Harris, Shirley and Johnny Smith Blairsville, Shelia Owens of Brasstown, N. C., Jeffery Ingram of Gainesville. Sisters, Mae Clark of Gainesville, Beulah Penland of Murrayville, Bessie Brown, Shirley Carey, Myrtle Collins, Evelyn and Hubert Shook, Vivian and Bo Conley all of Blairsville, Bertha and Joe Powers of Dahlonega, Brother, Jimmy and Jean Garrett of Gainesville, 14 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday August 6, 2005 from the New Harmony Baptist Church, interment fallowed in the church cemetery, Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating. Music by the New Harmony Choir. Pallbearers Alton Garrett, Marshall Gibson, Hogan Guffey, Rodney Carey, Kevin Conley and Randy Brown.

Brian Grant Boyce

Mr. Brian Grant Boyce age 59 of Wild Ridge Road, Blairsville, Ga. passed away Wednesday August 3, 2005 in the Union General Hospital, following a sudden illness. Mr. Boyce was born on March 1, 1946 in Alburg, Vermont. He was the son of the late Parnell and Ruth Searles Boyce. At 17 he married the love of his life Sharon Mumley . He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived life to its fullest, spending many vacations at his beloved cabin in Georgia, with his family and friends. Along with a strong work ethic he took great pride in his family, his work, his country and his team, the Florida State Seminoles. He began his business life as co owner of the family dairy farm for 17 years in Vermont. He then moved his family to Florida where he started Corner Produce, a wholesale and retail market. Currently he was a builder and developer in Union County Georgia.
Preceded in death by a sister Debbie Dale Boyce and daughter Suzanne Boyce. Surviving Mr. Boyce are his loving wife of 41 years Sharon Mumley Boyce, Five children Robin Taylor of Grand Isle, Vermont, Randy Boyce of Cape Coral, Florida, Jennifer and Greg DeWitt of Bonita Springs, Florida, Jill and Terry Bonnell of Bonita Springs, Florida, Krista and Mark Viars of San Carlos, Florida . Brothers and Sisters by marriage, Bob and Bev, Bill and Lois, Jim and Colleen and Dick. Four Grandchildren Jesse, Taylor, Haley, Camryn and soon to be Delaney. Many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends to numerous to mention.
The Family will receive friends Monday August 8, 2005 from 5 to 7 pm, with a service to follow in Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home Chapel at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Joanne’s House Hospice, Bonita Springs, Florida.

SHIRLEY H. HENSEL

Mrs. Shirley H. Hensel age 72 of Gumlog Rd. Young Harris passed away on Monday Aug.8, 2005 in the North East Ga. Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Hensel was born on March 20, 1933 in Athens, OH., the daughter of the late Samuel Henderson and the late Erma Thompson Henderson. She had made her home in Towns County after, moving here from Tampa, FL. Before her retirement she was employed with the Towns County School system. Mrs. Hensel was of the Methodist Faith.
Surviving Mrs. Hensel are her loving husband of twenty three years, Edward Hensel of Yong Harris, one daughter, Chris Brooks of Young Harris, Six Step children, Edward and Kay Hensel of Gainesville, FL., Douglas Hensel and Christopher Hensel both of IL., Helena Medgebow of Tampa, FL., Regina and Craig Carlton, Blane Hensel all of Tampa., one sister, Betty Butts of Athens, OH., one brother and sister in law, Sam and Marriam Henderson of Athens, OH., six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday Aug. 10, 2005 from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will follow at a later date and will be announced.
