Myrtice Mitchell Douglas
Services for Myrtice Mitchell Douglas of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. James CME Church of Lumber City with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Douglas, 40, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany. She was the daughter of the late Miss Ireatha Mitchell and Kenneth Strong Sr. of Lumber City and was married to Dexter Douglas of McRae.
She was a native of Telfair County.
In addition to her husband and father, survivors include her grandmother, Margie Strong of Lumber City; special friend, George Hudson III of McRae; sister, Yolanda (Harvey) Mitchell of Lumber City; brothers,Kenneth (Oneida) Strong Jr. of McDonough; Corey Lee of Atlanta and Michael Boyd of Decatur; step-mother, Alice Strong of Lumber City; stepchildren, Nashunda N. Barnes, Byron D. Clark and Amber J. Clark, all of McRae; half-sisters, Shaundra Williams of Brunswick; Darristeen, Patricia and Laura Ann Gibson of Lumber City; niece, Trisha Mitchell of Decatur; nephew, Rodney Clark of Lumber City; aunts, Mary Louise Lane of Lumber City and Ernestine Jones of Somerset, N.J.; uncle, Charles Clements of Lumber City; six great-aunts; seven great-uncles; three step-grandchildren; one great-niece, a host of cousins and many friends.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Dewayne Michael Jackson
Graveside services for Dewayne Michael Jackson of Helena were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Sonny Harrell officiated.
Jackson, 42, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Lewis McLean
Services for Lewis McLean of Suffolk, Va. were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Central Gym in McRae with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. Joyce Tomblin and Minister Keith Geter officiated.
McLean, 54, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 in a drowning accident on the St. James River while fishing with his two sons who also perished. He was the son of the late George and Camilla McLean and was married to Tonya McLean.
Born in Telfair County, he had served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, then joined the Merchant Marine in 1991, continuing to work there until his death.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Lewis Bernard McLean of Savannah; two daughters, Nancy McLean of Lumber City and Shuntese Troup of Meridian, Miss.; nine siblings, Jimmy, Mickey, George, Samuel (Towanna) and Joseph, all of Lumber City, John (Mary) of Vidalia and Curtis (Christine) of Newport News, Va; three sisters, Doretha Tobler of Stanford, Conn., Susan Edward of Lumber City, and Jeanette McLean of Greenwich, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

Desmond McLean
Services for Desmond McLean of Suffolk, Va. were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Central Gym in McRae with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. Joyce Tomblin and Minister Keith Geter officiated.
McLean, 9, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 as the result of a drowning accident during a fishing expedition which also claimed the lives of his father, Lewis and brother Kelton. He was also the son of Tonya McLean of Suffolk, Va.
Born in Eastman, he attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and loved reading, art and fishing.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his sister, Shuntese Troup of Meridian, Miss.; grandparents, Brenda Conaway and Freddie (Carolyn) Conaway.

Elma Skipper
Services for Elma Ryals Skipper of Rhine were held at 2 p.m.Friday, Jan 27 in Rhine Baptist Church with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery.
The Rev. Chuck Yzenski and Bobby Ryals officiated.
Skipper, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Williams Gordon Ryals and Blanche Bohannon Ryals and widow of Herman Skipper.
A lifelong resident of Dodge County, she was a member of Rhine Baptist Church and a retired postmistress for Rhine Post Office.
Survivors include nieces, Laura Ann Burke and Louise Patterson, both of Savannah; nephew, Jimmy Hobbs of Metter; devoted friend, Ruth Day Gillis of Rhine; caregivers, Geraldine McCranie, A.J. and Catherine Hulett and Hospice Care Options.
Pallbearers were Williams Ryals, Tommy Ryals, Gary Ryals, Roy Anderson, Edwin Burnham, Wright Harrell and Richard Bowen. Randy Conley was pianist for the service.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.

Kelton Troup
Services for Kelton Troup of Suffolk, Va. were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Central Gym in McRae with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. Joyce Tomblin and Minister Keith Geter officiated.
Troup, 14, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 in a drowning accident along with his step-father and brother. He was the son of Michael (Shalonda) Troup of Alamo and Tonya McLean and the late Lewis McLean of Suffolk, Va.
Born in North Carolina, he attended J.F. Kennedy Middle School and played running back with the Steelers football team.
In addition to his mother and father, survivors include his two sisters, Shuntese Troup of Meridian, Miss., and Mary Troup of Milan; grandparents, Brenda Conaway of Lumber City, Freddie (Carolyn) Conaway, Linda Troup and Contrill (Mary) Troup of Alamo; great-grandparents, Doris Jordan and Curtis (Lillie) Johnson; great-great grandmother, Viola Garrett; nine uncles, seven aunts, a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Reverend Raymond Woodrow Walden
Reverend Raymond Woodrow Walden, 90, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2006. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Lumber City Baptist Church with interment in the Telfair Memorial Gardens, McRae.
A native of Lumpkin County, Dahlonega, Reverend Walden moved to Telfair County in 1920. He was the son of the late Columbus Goodman Walden Sr. and Callie Satterfield Walden and the grandson of the late John Woodrow Walden and Rosetta Caroline Walden.
Active in Fishing Creek Baptist Church and community affairs, he worked several years as a lay speaker. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1956 and following his ordination he accepted a call to Sardis Baptist Church where he served for several years. As the years passed Reverend Walden heard the Macedonia call to serve elsewhere and served in many churches, two of which were Surrency Baptist Church for 17 years and Bishop Chapel Church for 14 years, before retiring due to failing health. Reverend Walden was a member of Lumber City Baptist Church.
Reverend Walden was initiated into the membership of Hazlehurst Masonic Lodge #283F&AM and was invested with the Degree of the Royal Secret or 32nd Degree by Macon Consistory, Valley of Macon, Orient of Georgia on May 9, 1958. He was active in the Georgia Baptist Convention serving five years on the Executive Committee, and had served on the Brewton-Parker College Board of Trustees.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lucille Varnadoe Walden of Lumber City; sisters, Ruth Laws of Brunswick, Blanche Thompson of Warner Robins, and Lynelle Thompson of Lumber City; and several nieces and nephews.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

James T. White
Graveside services for James T. White of Lumber City were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Snow Hill Baptist Church.
The Rev. Marion Smith officiated.
White, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006 at Telfair Regional Hospital in McRae. He was the son of the late Harvey and Mary Coleman White.
A native of Laurens County, he had been a resident of Lumber City for the past 12 years. He was a member of the Holiness faith, and was retired from the timber business.
Survivors include his two sons, Greg (Susie) Steverson and Stevie (Katherine) White, all of Lumber City; daughter, Wanda (John) Montgomery of Lake Sinclair; step-daughter, Michelle (Rick) Johnson of Warner Robins; brother, Corris White of Glenwood; sisters, Hazel Brooks and Etta Mae Dixon, both of Dublin; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Timmothy Williams, Gary White, James White, Anthony White, W.C. Warren and Kevin Yawn.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis W. Williams
Phyllis W. Williams of McRae, age 89, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006.
She was the daughter of the late Arthur Fillmore Williams and Cynthia Phillips Williams. She was born in Savannah, but she had lived most of her life in McRae. She was the widow of Albert K. Williams.
She was a Retired Civil Service employee from Robins Air Force Base.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Sweet Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Reverend Joe Stephens officiated.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Frances (Fontaine) Brewton of McRae; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
