EDITH LUELLA YOUNG

Mrs. Edith Luella Young age 76 St. Cloud, FL. formerly of Blairsville passed away on Tuesday Dec. 19, 2006 in St. Cloud, FL. at the home of her daughters following an extended illness. Mrs. Young was born on Jan.26, 1930 in Sharpsville, PA., The daughter of the late Robert Bole and the late Charlotte Clark Bole. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Edwin Young in 1999.Mrs.Young was a member of Pine Top Baptist church.
Surviving Mrs. Young are two daughters and one son in law, Laura Marie and Jerry Darter of St. Cloud, FL., Arlene Louise Young Scott of St. Cloud, FL., one sister, Isabell Smith of Akron, OH., two grandchildren, Arthur Jerry Darter and April Lynn Darter, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Friday Dec. 22, 2006 from the Pine Top Baptist church with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Special music was presented by Bobby Duncan and A. J. Darter. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Tony Brown, Bobby Duncan, Nick DiMartino, Frank Merritt, Mark Holbrook and Matt Witherow. Serviving as honorary pallbearers were Dennis Hamby, Home Payne and Doc Espy. iIntermentfollowed in the Pine Top church cemetery.

HANS FREDERICK PINK

Mr. Hans Frederick Pink age 85 of Coosa Run Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Dec. 20, 2006 following an extended illness. Mr. Pink was born on June 26, 1921 in Kiel Germany, The son of the late August Albert Pink and the late Emma Homann Pink. He lived in Atlanta from 1953 to 1954 and moved to Big Canoe and lived there until he moved to Blairsville in 1999.He was a Professional Photographer. Mr. Pink was a veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Ann Pink in 2002.Mr. Pink was active as one of Jehova’s Witnesses for over fifty years.
Survivng Mr. Pink are two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and Oliver King of Blairsville, Suzanne May Johnston of Flowery Branch, GA., four grandchildren, former son in law, Ron May, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services were held on Saturday Dec. 23, 2006 from the Kingdom Hall on Paradise Rd. with Rod Scogin officiating.

KIMBERLE MICHELLE SHOOK

Mrs. Kimberle Michelle Shook age 38 of Twin Mtn.Rd. Hiawassee passed away on Wednesday Aug. 10, 2005 in the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following an extended illness. Mrs. Shook was born on July 10, 1967 in Twons County, the daughter of Nora Corn Shook and the late Perry Edward Shook. She was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. She was a very loving wife and mother and a friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Chester and Lillian Shook, George and Lola Corn and a cousin, Ricky Shook. Mrs. Shook was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Shook are her loving husband of twenty years, Rev. Reggie Shook of Hiawassee, Three children, Franklin, Tonisha and Dylan Shook all of Hiawassee, Mother, Nora Shedd of Hiawassee, Step mother, Joyce Shook of Clayton, One sister, Shellie Smith of Young Harris, Three brothers, Hubert Bowen of Hiawassee, Jerry Shook of MI., Lynn Shook of Clayton, A Special mother, Georgia Murphy of Blairsville, Aunts, Helen Schoffiet and Thelma Shook, Uncles, Freddie and Wade Shook, many other relatives and friends also survive.Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, from 6pm – 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Aug.13, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel. Rev. Tommy Jemkins, Tully Griggs, Jason Smith, Randy Hunter officiating.Special music will be presented by Martha Barrett and Spirit Led.

The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Stuart Nichols, Rev. Randall Mathis, Michael Shirley, David Dyer, Levi Shook, Keith Harris, Freddie Shook, Aaron Welling. Honorary Pallbearers, Jonathan Welch, Wayman Lovell, Micky Shook.

KENNETH K. KIMBALL

Mr. Kenneth K. Kimball age 86 of Lakeside Drive Blairsville, formerly of Leesburg (Wildwood) FL., passed away on Sunday Aug. 14, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Kimball was born on July 10, 1919 in Burr Oak, IA., The son of the late Burt Kimball and the late Loretta Kimball. He was employed with Publix Supermarkets for his entire working career. He was a member of the Mens Club of Lakeside Village. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Bryant Kimball in 1990.Mr. Kimball attended the House of Prayer.
Surviving Mr. Kimball are his loving companion Audrey Bryant of St. Petersburg, FL., and also of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Karen Tolson of Buford, GA., Connie and John McCahill of Blairsville, Four grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Tolson, Kelly and husband John Tobaben, Kenny and wife Susana McCahill, Four great grandchildren, Johnny and Katie Tobaben, Ryan and Dylan McCahill, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Aug. 20, 2005 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, John McCahill, Zack Tolson, Josh Tolson, John Tobaben, Johnny Tobaben and Kenny McCahill. iIntermentwill follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice of N.E. GA. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

ETHEL GOSS BERGLUND

Mrs. Ethel Goss Berglund age 73 of Forrister Place Blairsville made her transition on Friday Aug. 19, 2005 at her home following a long illness. Ethel was born on Oct. 3, 1931 in Richmond, VA., Later moving to Lynn, MA., being employed by General Electric and late by Colby Jr. College in New London, NH.

Ethel was truly a person of love and light sharing personality with all who came in contact with her. Her warm smile was a blessing and her love of god always given freely. She will be missed by many and the world was a better place while she was here.
She was a member of the Plainfield Christian Science Church Independent in Plainfield, NJ., and later attended Unity Church of the Mountains in Blairsville. She was a longtime member of the Mayflower Assc. and DAR in Sarasota, FL.
Surviving Mrs. Berglund are her loving husband of forty nine years, Russell Townsend Berglund of Blairsville, One daughter and son in law, Virgina Ann and David McCabe of Ogdensburg, NY., one son, George Stanley Berglund of Sarasota, FL., one granddaughter, Shannon Joy Lamb of Sarasota, Great grandchildren, Sean Nichole Lamb, George Anthony and Dayton Gregario all of Sarasota, Many other loving friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Georgia Mtn. Hospice, PO Box 580 Jasper, GA.30143 in Mrs. Berglund’s memory.

VELMA ANN POTEETE

Mrs. Velma Ann Poteete age 94 of Blairsville passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Poteete was born on May 11, 1911 in Union County, The daughter of the late Samuel Jasper Stephens and the late Mary Franks Stephens. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. She had been a resident of Brannan Lodge for over fifteen years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Randall Poteete in 1955 and also by a daughter, Lois Poteete Boyette, One brother and two sisters. Mrs. Poteete was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blairsville.
Surviving Mrs. Poteete are three daughters and son-in-laws, Mary Ann and John Dorsey of Okatie, SC., Elaine and Carroll Duchow of Indian Trail, NC., Linda and Bill Long of Tampa, FL., two brothers and sister in laws, June and Sue Stephens of Blairsville, Oliver and Lula Stephens of Blairsville, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday Aug. 26, 2005 at 10:00 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Cline officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, June Stephens, John Dorsey, Bill Long, Tom Anthony, Jeff Dorsey and Tommy Stephens. iIntermentwill follow in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

GORDON KEY BRYAN

Mr. Gordon Key Bryan age 99 of Blairsville, formerly of Stakville, MS., went home to be with the Lord on Monday February 27, 2006 at the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. At the time of his passing, He was living with his daughter and son in law, Lynda and John Yount. Dr. Bryan was born on Dec. 20, 1906 in Cleburne, TX., The son of the late Benjamin F. Bryan and the late Myrtle Young Bryan of Cleburne, TX. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bennie Hendrix and Marjorie Reddick, and also by his loving wife of seventy two years, Lake Cummings Bryan who passed away in 2002.Dr.Bryan was a member of the Phi Beta Kapa, the Phi Kappa Phi, the Lambda Chi Alpha, the Pi Sigma Alpha, the Blue Key, the Golden Triangle YMC Award, the Sloan Foundation Fellow, the Gen. Education Board Fellow, Who's Who in America, the Assc. of Retired Professor of M. S. U., and he also was Elder Emeritus of the First Presbyterian church. Dr. Bryan was a member of the First Presbyterian church in Starkville.
Surviving Dr. Bryan are one daughter and son in law, Lynda and John Yount of Blairsville, three Grandchildren, Carol Adams of Ft. Worth. TX., Beth Owens of Cheyanne, WY., Ginger Hamrick of Decatur, GA., three Great-Great Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday March 3, 2006 at 3:00pm from the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville, MS. with the Rev. Olin McBride and the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, P. C. McLaurin, Tip Allen, Krish Bhanzali, Keith Remy, Bill Polk and Fred Blocker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of the First Presbyterian church. iIntermentand graveside services will be held Monday at 3:00pm from the Cleburne Memorial cemetery in Cleburne, TX.

RAYMOND HARDING SPENCER

Mr. Raymond Harding Spencer age 95 of Blossom Valley Blairsville, formerly of Orlando, FL., passed away on Wednesday March 1, 2006 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Spencer was born on May 13, 1910 in Baltimore, MD., The son of the late Hervey Spencer and the late Nannie Holland Spencer. He had retired from the Baltimore B & O Railroad after several years of service. He was preceded in death by a son Bobby Spencer and his wife, Mary Ward Spencer. Mr. Spencer was a member of the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving Mr. Spencer are one son and daughter in law, Raymond A. and Grace Spencer of Floral Park, NY., two Grandchildren, Raymond H. Spencer of Portland, ME., John Spencer of Cardiff, CA., one Great-Granddaughter, Rachael Spencer, several nieces and nephews, his caregiver, Viola Rogers of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday March 4, 2006 at 2:00pm from the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ivan Rexroth officiating. Special music will be presented by Doris Sourdiffe and Duane Harrell. iIntermentwill follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene in Mr. Spencer’s memory.

VINA THOMAS COOK

Mrs. Vina Thomas Cook age 97 of Trackrock Church Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday March 6, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Cook was born on Aug. 10, 1908 in Towns County, The daughter of the late Ed Thomas and the late Fannie Mae McClure Thomas. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Cook, two sons, Herbert Cook and Travis Cook, three daughter in laws, Helen Cook, Lily Ruth Cook and Olean Cook, Five sisters, Ruby, Thelma, Pauline, Irene and Flora, and also by three brothers, John, Nathan and Harvey. Mrs. Cook was a member of the TrackRock Baptist church.
Surviving Mrs. Cook are one daughter and son in law, Vivian Verona and Jimmy Cook of Blairsville, three sons and two daughter in laws, E. L. Cook of Blairsville, Eugene and Ruby Nell Cook of Andrews, NC., James and Sue Cook of Blairsville, Albert Cook of Blairsville, one sister, Era Mae Penland of Blairsville, nineteen Grandchildren twenty six Great-Grandchildren, several Great-Great Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 9, 2006 at 2:00pm from the Trackrock Baptist church with the Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Denny Moss officiating. Special music will be presented by the Trackrock church choir. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2pm on Thursday. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Darrell, Gerald, Loy, Barney and Troy Cook and Joe Jordan. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-9pm.

DOROTHY B. SAUER

Mrs. Dorothy B. Sauer age 98 of Wesley Mtn. Drive (Branan Lodge)Blairsville passed away on Monday March 6, 2006 in the Union County Nursing home following an extended illness. Mrs. Sauer was born on May 5, 1907 in Jacksonville, FL., The daughter of the late John E. Bigelow and the late Marion Lindley Bigelow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Sauer Sr. She had made her home in Blairsville for the past seven years, moving here from West Palm Beach, FL. Mrs. Sauer was a member of St. Clare’s Episcopal church.
Surviving Mrs, Sauer are one son and daughter in law, Frank and Joan Sauer of Clayton, GA., one granddaughter, Suzanne Sauer, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial service for Mrs. Sauer will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to St. Clare’s Episcopal church in Mrs. Sauer’s memory.

HENRY JACKSON ROUNTREE

Mr. Henry Jackson Rountree age 75 of Skeenah Gap Rd. Suches, formerly of Buckhead, GA. passed away on Thursday Aug. 17, 2006 following an extended illness. Mr. Rountree was born on Sept.30, 1930 in Atlanta, GA., The son of the late Claude Rountree and the late Edith Jackson Rountree. He was a successful self employed Optician in Atlanta for over forty years. He served in the Navy, Umpired professional and collegiate baseball and was the first inductee of the NCAA Baseball Umpires Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM. Mr. Rountree was a member of Coosa Methodist church.
Surviving Mr. Rountree are his loving wife of twenty four years, Jane Isbell Rountree of Suches, two daughters and one son in law, Kim Rhodes of Columbia, SC., Kris and Robert Gordon of Buckhead, GA., three sons and daughter in laws, Harry and Brenda Rountree of Myrtle Beach, SC., Jack and Jamie Rountree of Buckhead, GA., Michael and Melissa Rountree of Montgomery, AL., one brother and sister in law, Jimmy and Evoline Rountree of East Point, one sister, Dr. Judy Newton of Cumming, thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Aug. 19, 2006 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Pitman and Rev. Katie Strals. Special music will be presented by James Stephens. Military honors will be presented by the North GA. Honor Guard. iIntermentand graveside services will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm from the Buckhead cemetery in Buckhead, GA. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9pm.

PAUL VERNON SMITH

Mr. Paul Vernon Smith age 48 of Pond Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday August 17, 2006 in Towns County from injuries received from a lawn mower accident. Mr. Smith was born on Dec. 29, 1957 in Williamsburg, KY., The son of Marie Staley and the late Rev. Paul Junior Smith. He was a kind and very loving husband, father and grandfather. He always worked hard providing for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially by his family. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Smith are his loving wife of nineteen years, Barbara Meers Smith of Blairsville, mother, Marie Smith-Jenkins, four sons and one daughter in law, David and Donna Hughes of Blairsville, Daniel Smith and Everett Smith both of Williamsburg, KY., Brian Smith of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Natasha and Carlos Diaz of Blairsville, two sisters and brother in laws, Frances and Don Yantis of Piqua, OH., Lori and Johnny Miller all of Williamsburg, KY., three brothers and two sisters, Billy Smith, David and Sonja Smith, all of Williamsburg, Johnny and Juanita Smith of Ohio, three grandchildren, Madison Hughes, Camden and Kaylee Smith, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday August 21, 2006 at 2; 00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music will be presented by Michael and Danita Kennedy. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jonathan Fortenberry, Nathan Williams, Ethan Garrett, Josh Garrett, Josh Dills and Ricky Williams. iIntermentwill follow in the Coopers Creek Baptist church Cemetery.
