Juanita Morgan Harrison

Juanita Morgan Harrison, 73, of Lyons, passed away late Tuesday evening, January 18, 2005, at the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia following a sudden illness.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Lyons for most of her life. She was a homemaker and was a member of the East Gordon Street Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was a daughter of the late Berry and Essie Lee Watson Morgan and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Harrison; a son, Greg Harrison; two sisters, Jeanette Bell and Doris Khodabakhsh and a brother, Pete Morgan. She will be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Dudley Harrison, Lyons; five daughters, Pam (Pat) Palmer, Vidalia, Alice (Jim) Givliani, Orlando, FL, Terry Nelson, Lyons, Tina (Willie) Dunn, Higgston, and Patty (Bill) Landrum, Blackshear; two sons, Daral (Connie) Harrison, Haynesville, and Heath (Michelle) Harrison, McDonough; four sisters, Lavada Teston and Jean Landrum, both of Blackshear, Faye Almond, Twin City, and Bobby Buck, Waycross; two brothers, Parnell Morgan, Yulee, FL and Berry W. Morgan, Patterson; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.
iIntermentwill be in the Patterson Cemetery.

Janice ‘Jan’ Bennett Youmans

Janice “Jan” Bennett Youmans, 45, died early Wednesday morning, January 19, 2005, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Waycross, she had resided in Brunswick since 1988. She was preceded in death by her father, Omer Kenneth “O.K” Bennett and her sister, Sharon Bennett Lindsay.
She was a former employee of Vaden Chevrolet and Nalley Honda. She was a 1977 graduate of Ware County High School and was a member of the drill team. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Youmans, Brunswick; two sons, Brooks Harrell and Ryan Youmans, both of Brunswick; a stepdaughter, Leslie Youmans Johnson (husband Jarod), Blackshear; a granddaughter, Morgan Johnson; her mother, Videll Strickland Bennett, Waycross; a sister, Sonja Bennett Grieco (husband Paul), Blackshear; a brother-in-law, Phil Lindsay, Brunswick; four nephews, Todd Lindsay, Dustin Lindsay (wife Mea), Bennett Grieco and Matthew Grieco; a great-nephew, Carter Lindsay; a great-niece, Trinity Lindsay; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Youmans, Blackshear; two brothers-in-law, Larry Youmans (wife Jerry) and Walter Youmans (wife Dana), both of Waycross; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, from the Second Baptist Church.
iIntermentfollowed in Hephzibah Cemetery.
The Ida Ruth Sunday School Class of Second Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.

Elbert Lee Griffith

Elbert Lee Griffith, 67, died Monday morning, January 24, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after a short illness.
A native of Van, WV, he had lived many years in Jacksonville, FL, before moving to Blackshear in 1990.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Douglas Construction Co. and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his loving friend, Wanda Steedley, Blackshear; three sons, Byron Griffith, Indiana, James P. Griffith, Virginia, and Jeremy Griffith, Pennsylvania; his mother, Sylvia Young, Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Patty Henderson, Jacksonville, FL, and a special niece, Stacy Calhoun, Jacksonville, FL, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization was by cremation. There will be no public services.
Smith Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Arthur ‘Boggie’ Grams III

Thomas Arthur “Boggie” Grams III, 21, of Blackshear and formerly of Boonsboro, MD, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Born September 10, 1983 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Thomas Arthur Jr. and Susan E. Grams of Blackshear and Sonny and Shelly Swope of Boonsboro, who raised him. After graduating from Boonesboro High School in 2001, he enlisted in the United States Army. He worked with his father at Council Construction in Blackshear, but formerly worked with R & L Sheet Metal Products in Funkstown, MD.
He was a member of the Clopper-Michael Post 10 of the American Legion in Boonsboro and loved to hunt, fish, golf and was an avid fan of the NFL’s Washington Redskins and NASCAR’s Tony Stewart.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Dustin A. Swope, Boonsboro; sisters, Brandy Colbert, Atlanta, Brittany Grams and Tiffany Moreland, both of Hagerstown, MD; grandmother, Shirley Grams, Mapieville, MD; grandparents, Edward and Betty Swope, Boonsboro; his fiance, Cori Furr, Washington County, MD; a close friend who survived the accident, Robert Henderson, Blackshear; his pal, “Poncho”, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and lots of special friends; and his mother, Tammy G. Moreland.
He was preceded in death by friend, also of the same accident, Jason Dixon, Blackshear; his grandfather, Thomas A. Grams Sr. and his great grandparents, Paul Sr. and Naomi Beaver.
A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. (today) Wednesday, Jan. 26, from the Bast Funeral Home Chapel in Boonsboro, MD, with the Rev. David Coblentz and Pastor Paul Clemmer officiating.
iIntermentwill follow in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, 4710 Waters Avenue, Savannah, GA 31404.
Bast Funeral Home of Boonsboro, MD, assisted by Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors of Savannah, was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Jack Duff

Bobby Jack Duff, 51, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, January 10, 2005, at the Tattnall Healthcare Nursing Home in Reidsville following a lengthy illness.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he had worked as a jailer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office for many years before ill health forced him to retire. He was a member of the Blackshear First Baptist Church where he was in the Misfits Sunday School Class. Mr. Duff was also a member of the Waycross Elk’s Club, The Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Hurricane Men’s Club and T.O.P.S. He was a son of the late Troy Lee and Julia Kathleen Willis Duff.
Survivors are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Roger Crump, Madison, AL and Julia Ann and Raymond Quandt, Ocean Springs, MS; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Travis Duff and James Duff, both of Blackshear and Troy and Sandy Duff, Murrieta, CA; an uncle, Bob Willis, Waycross and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Employees of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office served as honorary pallbearers.

Jason Lewis Dixon

Jason Lewis Dixon, 23, of Blackshear, died early Monday morning, January 17, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the Youmans Chapel Community of Pierce County.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Frank Dixon and Lloyd Griffis.
He worked in construction and was of the Baptist faith. He formerly attended Pierce County Schools and was an avid hunter and fisherman. While growing up in Pierce County, he formerly was very active playing sports in the Pierce County Recreation Department.
Survivors include his parents, Lewis and Debra Dixon, Blackshear; two sisters, Melissa Dixon (fiance Chad Robson), and Michelle Council (husband Wayne) all of Blackshear; a brother Justin Dixon (fiance Liz Vizcarra), San Diego, CA., his grandparents, Minor Lee Dixon and Rufus and Delores Carter, all of Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 19) from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.
Memorialization will be by cremation.

Lula H. Brown

Lula H. Brown, 82, died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear.
She was the youngest of nine children born to the late Ethel Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Brown Sr.; a son, John E. Brown Jr.
She was born in Blackshear where she received her formal education in the public school system. She was retired from Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross following 20 years of service as a licensed practical nurse.
Because of her love for children and education, she served for many years as a substitute in the Pierce County School System. She was also president of the Lee Street PTA for many years and secretary for the Band Boosters.
She joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of the Senior Mission, Senior Choir, Tuck Street Circle and the church secretary for many years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William and Margo Brown, Atlanta; five daughters and sons-in-law, Madeline and Herbert White, Hyattsville, MD, Colleen and John Noble, Blackshear, Barbara and Ray Leaphart, Annette and Craig Farley, both of Atlanta; Ethel and Ron Lambert, Savannah; an adopted daughter, Sheila Williams, Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Ida Holmes, Blackshear; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, from the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Blackshear with the Rev. Morris Pate officiating and the Rev. Jimmie Green giving the eulogy.

James A. Williamson

James A. Williamson, 80, died Tuesday morning, January 4, 2005, at his residence in Patterson after an extended illness.
A native of Appling County, he had lived most of his life in Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hose and Nera Strickland Williamson; a son, Jack A. Williamson; a daughter, Penny L. Bryant; a grandson, Jason Thomas; two brothers, Merle Williamson and Earnest Williamson.
Mr. Williamson was a retired contractor formerly owning W&W Builders. He was a longtime member of Patterson Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II.
Survivors include his daughter Ann Grime (husband Jerry), Blackshear; a son, Jesse Williamson (wife Melissa), Patterson; nine grandchildren, Ashley Thomas (wife Andrea), Patterson, Brandi Howell (husband Joe), Blackshear, Jessica Griner (husband Mark), Patterson, Jamie Hall (husband Jeffery), Patterson, Kandi Chambers of FL, Lindsey Williamson, Patterson, Ashton and William Bryant, Brentwood, TN and Shannon Dixon, Patterson; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Herman Williamson (wife Judy), Carl Williamson (wife Jenny), Levern “Bunk” Williamson (wife Sue), all of Patterson, and Hale Williamson (wife Margaret), Miami, FL; a close friend, Martha Tootle, Screven, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Ivey Julian Strickland

Ivey Julian Strickland, 55, of Blackshear, passed away late Wednesday evening, January 5, 2005, at the Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville following a short illness.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was a retired boilermaker for Alloy Steel and was a member of Local 26-Savannah. He was a member of the Blackshear Church of God and was also a member of the Pierce County Hunting Club. He was a son of the late Raymond and Polly Walker Strickland and was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Strickland.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Owens Strickland, Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jimmy Roberson, Blackshear; four sisters, Wanita Head, Thelma (Jr.) Kirkland, Jenetha (T. L.) Chaney and Karen (Billy) Patterson, all of Blackshear; two brothers, Billy (Mildred Youmans) Strickland and John (Sally) Strickland, all of Blackshear; four grandchildren, Cade Melton, McKenna Roberson, Madison Roberson and Chris Roberson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, from the New Life Assembly of God.
