James Archibald Campbell
Services for James Archibald Campbell of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at McRae First Baptist Church with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. William Connell and the Rev. B.L. Horne officiated.
Campbell, 91, died Saturday, April 15, 2006. He was the son of the late Robert Winston and Estelle Barber Campbell, and was married to Maggie Anglin Campbell for 65 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Robbie Routh.
A lifelong resident of Telfair County, he worked for many years at Berman’s Department Store. He served as Telfair County Tax Commissioner for two terms until he retired. He was a long time member of McRae First Baptist Church and the Midway Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Jane (Carey) Knowles; granddaughters, Becky Green and Laura Ryals of McRae, and Ginger Horne of Glenwood; great-grandchildren, Janie and Carter Green; and niece, Libby Vaughn of McRae.
Memorials may be made to the McRae First Baptist Church building fund.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Elbert Duncan Clegg Jr.
Services for Elbert Duncan Clegg Jr. of Scotland were held with full military honors at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home in Helena with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae.
The Rev. Joe Stephens officiated.
Clegg, 67, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Coliseum Medical Hospital in Macon. He was the son of Elbert Duncan and Alice Cook Clegg of Scotland, and was married to Betty Clegg. He was preceded in death by brother, William Clegg, and both parents.
He was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church and was a retired TSgt. of the United States Air Force.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Denise (Dr. Robert David Pagan) Clegg Pagan of Spotsylvania, Va., and Jodie Glen-Martin Hildreth (Gavin) of London, England; six grandchildren; two step-children, Lou Ann Adams of Scotland, and Scott Adams (Chelli) of Dublin; five step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; sisters, Ann Holmes of Ft.Worth, Texas, Carolyn Gaffney of Aikens, S.C., and Eleanor Smith of McDonough.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Herman Lawrence (Link) Moore Jr.
Services for Herman Lawrence (Link) Moore Jr. of Glenwood were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at Harvest Time Faith Center Church of Vidalia with interment in Smith and Steward Cemetery.
Dr. Bernard Hill officiated.
Moore, 15, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 in Glenwood. He was the son of Melvina and Ray Feaster of Glenwood and Herman L. Sr. and Janet Moore of Eastman.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his sisters, Shantaya K. Herring of Valdosta and Klyda G. Moore of Eastman; brothers, Jatavious Jones of Glenwood, Skylar D. Moore and Tristan A. Moore of Eastman; grandmothers, Mary D. Smith of Glenwood, and Carolyn (Cleve) Hamilton of McRae; grandfathers, John (Linda) Wooten of Atlanta, Danny Lee (Annette) McLaughlin of Eastman, and Charlie Feaster of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandmothers, Nellie Steward of Glenwood, Diane White of Eastman, and WillieMae Wooten of McRae; great-grandfather, Walter Steward of Sandersville; a special friend/sister, Olga L. Huerta of Glenwood, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Lula Mae Williams
Services for Lula Mae Williams of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at The Association Center of McRae with interment in Clemons Cemetery in Jacksonville.
The Rev. Murphy McRae officiated.
Williams, 75, died Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta. She was the daughter of the late Annie Jane Hill and the late Jimmy Height and was the widow of Fred Lee Williams.
Survivors include her children, Moses Williams of Atlanta, James Williams of Helena, Larry Williams of Greenville, S.C., Freddie (Vickie) Williams of Memphis, Tenn., Jerry Williams of Helena, Regenia (Charles) Burnham of Fitzgerald, and Vanessa Williams of Helena; four brothers, Sammy (Valerie) Heights of Ft. Washington, Md., Jimmy (Alfreda) Heights of Jesup, Freddie (Doris) Heights of Elonia, and Andrew (Angela) Heights of Townsend; sisters, Joann (James) Richardson of Richmond Hill, Neterhapi Quartley of Lebanon, N.H., Robin (Eddie) Sander of Jesup, and Ilinda (David) Artical, also of Jesup; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

J.T. ‘Gator’ Yawn
Services for J.T. “Gator” Yawn of Milan were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Rockwell Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Sam Gray, the Rev. Robert Boutwell, and the Rev. Danny Lovett officiated.
Yawn, 89, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at his residence. He was the son of the late Calvin Yawn and Annie Dowdy Yawn, and was married to Essie M. Knight Yawn.
He was a farmer and a lifetime resident of Telfair County.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Laverne Calhoun of Rhine, Thomas B. Yawn of Homerville, Ronald Calvin Yawn of Milan, and Wayne S. Yawn of Nashville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Mae Boyer of Hazlehurst, Mary Annie Gray of Hartwell, and Lola Smith of Broxton; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Francine Turner Adams
Services for Francine Turner Adams of Alamo were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with interment in Springhill Cemetery.
The Rev. Lamar Raburn, the Rev. Marty McLeod and the Rev. Thad Harvey officiated.
Adams, 74, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006. She was the daughter of Lavada Waters Adams and James H. Turner of Wheeler County and was the widow of O.C. Adams.
She was a member of the Georgia Cattlewomen Associations and was Cattlewoman of the Year in 2000. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher. She also served as treasurer for The Wheeler County Circuit for 24 years, and was retired from Adams Oil Company. She was a homemaker as well.
Survivors include four children, Craig (Vernette) Adams of Alamo, Keith Adams of Alamo, Renee Outlaw of Dublin, Teresa (Billy) Clifton of Alamo; six grandchildren, Dusty Brooks, Tasha Adams, Blake Adams, Donna Blount, Kadie Blount and Michael Clifton; brother, Horace Turner of Dublin; and sister, Louise Roddy of Waleska, Ga.
Donations may be made to Springhill Cemetery Fund c/o Carolyn White, Rt. 2, Alamo, Ga. 30411.

Jeanette James
Services for Jeanette James of Glenwood were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at The Association Center of McRae with interment in the Starlight Cemetery of Glenwood.
Bishop Todd Hollis officiated.
James, 58, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah. She was the daughter of Dezoraite Roundtree and John Henry Thompson and was married to Allen James.
Born in Glenwood, she gave her life to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and later accepted the call to the ministry. She joined The House of Prayer in Glenwood under the leadership of Apostle Earnest James in the early 1970s. She was a “woman of God” in every sense of the word. She gave much to many without asking anything in return. She was a mother who always put family before herself. She loved deeply and unselfishly, and was successful in all that she attempted. She was an excellent homemaker known for her decorating, cooking, and sewing skills throughout the community. She had a strong character and a wonderful sense of humor. She epitomized wisdom, strength, determination and compassion.
She worked in the manufacturing industry for over 35 years at Royden Wear in Mt. Vernon, and Savannah Luggage Works in Vidalia.
In addition to her husband of 42 years, survivors include her four children, Pamela Jeanette (Grady) Floyd of Dublin, Allyn Melinda James of Douglasville, Allen James Jr. of Tucker, and John Fredrick (Marie) James of Macon; seven grandchildren, Damian Meghale (Samantha) Floyd, Sean Floyd, Brionna James, John Fredrick Jr., Taishar Delon Allan, Jennifer Nicole James, and DaJon Maleka James; and one great-grandchild, Damian Meghale Floyd Jr. She also leaves four brothers and four sisters, Carol (Linda) Robinson, Rosie (David) Simmons, Janice (Willie) Nobles, Franklin Roundtree, Raynita (Ray) Peeples, George (Knowrasa) Roundtree, Albert Roundtree, and Anne (Roy) Bess; a host of other relative and friends.

Otis D. Raven Sr.
Services for Otis D. Raven Sr. of McRae were held at noon, Wednesday, April 5 at the Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Helena with interment in the Perpetual Care Cemetery in Helena.
The Rev. E. Neal Dixon officiated.
Raven, 94, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at McRae Manor Nursing Home in McRae. He was the son of the late John R. Raven Sr. and the late Emma Morman Raven and was the widower of Sally Mae Raven.
He was born in Telfair County.
Survivors include a son, Otis (Velma) Raven Jr. of Albany; grandchildren, Othell Bethena Raven of Nashville, Tenn., and Dante’ LaValli Raven of Savannah; sister, Blanche Raven McRae of Blackwood, N.J.; sisters-in-law, Lucille H. Houston Booker of McRae, and Rose Ha Benefield of Midville; God-daughter, Dorothy (Dot) Stinson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives; Margie Clay, caregiver; Sister Christine Whitten, a faithful family friend who prepared meals for him; and many friends.

Susie Kate Ross
Services for Susie Kate Ross of Jacksonville, Fla. were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8 at Steward Chapel Baptist Church of McRae with interment in Pine Acres Cemetery.
Pastor Charles Anderson officiated.
Ross, 89, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 in the Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. She was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Martha Hudson, and was the widow of John Thomas Ross. She was preceded in death by four children, Charles Ross, Sarah Gelsey, Cecil Ross Johnetta Williams, and a grandson, Cecil Ross Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Beaunell Ford; sons, Thomas Ross, Davis Ross and John Ross; and grandchildren, LaRonnia Ross, Briana Ross, Doris (Emanuel) Dorbu, Charles Ross Jr., Yvonne Ross, Ernest Ross, Kimberly (Darren) Johnson, Kesha (Cory) Axon, Tonika (Perry) McMillan, Tara Ross, Thomas Ross Jr., Calvin Ross, and Bennie John Ross; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Any name that was not mentioned was unintentionally left off, she loved all of her family and friends.
