1938-2005
Athens

Rachel Carolyn Borders, 66, of Atlanta Highway died Wednesday April 13, 2005.

A native of Carroll County, Mrs. Borders was the daughter of the late George and Delia Singleton Lowery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lee Borders and stepson, Tony Borders and was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Bowdon, GA.

Survivors include children, Judy McCormick of Bowdon, Sandra Hightower of Toccoa, Brian Borders of Watkinsville, Mike Borders of Mt. Zion, Jeff Borders of Carrollton, Linda Shelnutt of Newnan, Sherry Walls of Carrollton, Kathy Williams of Carrollton and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Friday, April 15 at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with Rev. Beth LaRocca-Pitts officiating.

Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maggie Shepherd
1908-2004

Maggie Green Shepherd, 95, Mary Collier Road passed away on June 4th.

A native of Newton County, Mrs. Shepherd was the daughter of the late John and Fannie Hardeman Bailey. Her husband Raymond Lee Shepherd preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include daughters Lois Shepherd and Bettie Saye both of Athens; brother James Bailey, Covington and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11AM Monday at Athens Memory Gardens with Rev. Bill Hayes officiating.

The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 6-8PM Sunday.

Lucille Martin David
1917-2005
Athens

Lucille Martin David, 87, of Fairlane Drive, passed away Wednesday April 6, 2005.

A native of Madison County, Mrs. David was the daughter of the late Avery Lee and Minnie Zodie Berryman Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Worley David; brother, Roy Lee Martin; and sisters, Eula Hix and Gertrude Smith. Mrs. David was a member of Galilee Holiness Church and she was active in the Senior Citizens Club at Edwards Chapel.

Survivors include sons, Donald David of Royston, W.D. David of Braselton, Freddie David of Commerce, Junior David, Darrell David both of Nicholson; daughters, Sylvia Walls of Bogart, Maxine Myers of Danielsville, Rose McDonald of Athens; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, April 8 in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Kesler and Rev. Brian David officiating.

The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 pm Thursday at Bernstein Funeral Home.

The family will be at the residence of her daughter Maxine Myers, 112 Woodland Dr., Danielsville, Ga.

Mary B. Roberson
1927-2005
Statham, Ga

Mary B. Roberson, 77, of 1100 Boyd Road passed away on April 8, 2004.

A native of Madison County, Mrs. Roberson was the daughter of the late Mac and Rilla Randall Bryant. She was a homemaker and member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter Connie Evans, Statham; brothers, Denom Bryant, Demorest; Floyd Bryant, Madison Co.; Johnny Bryant, Statham; sister Clyde Hollis, Danielsville: 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Monday, 0April 11, 2005, at the Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. William Anglin and Rev. Jonathon Evans officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 6-8PM Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Zach Evans, Timmy Evans, Tracey Hollis, Billy Dalton, Ronnie Lakins and Clay Waldrup.

Betty H. Stephenson
1933-2004

Athens - Betty H. Stephenson, 71, of Woodward Way, Athens, wife of Allen D. Stephenson, died April 30, 2004, after several months of illness.

A native of Appling County, Georgia, Mrs. Stephenson was born March 13, 1933 and was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Richard Herrington. She attended Berry College and Atlanta Business College and was a flight attendant with Delta Airlines where she was in the first such group to serve on jets.

She was for a number of years owner of Jo-Lin Fashions and later Betty's Boutique. Her community service included work with both Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary's. She was a Poll Manager for Athens-Clarke County elections and a member of the Glenwood Garden Club. During the years her husband was the Executive Vice President of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, she frequently was the 'unofficial hostess' for the Chamber's activities for visiting industry and trade groups.

Mrs. Stephenson was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Athens where she was in the Senior Adult Choir and in the Jewel Sunday School Class. Her many friends and family members remember her giving nature, her interest in others and such special things as her gifts of homemade fudge and fig preserves.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Ben Lee of Hinesville; daughter Sandra Stephenson of Athens; grandson Stephen Berry of Athens; granddaughters Laura and Kathryn Lee and Jenna Newton of Hinesville; sister and brother-in-law Addie Mae and Cecil Dubberly of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Laura Lee Herrington of Anniston, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 3rd at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Athens with the Dr. Bill Ross and Dr. Jon Appleton presiding. iIntermentwill be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bernstein Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Athens Building Fund.

Richard Walter Brennan
1920-2005

Richard W. Brennan, born March 20, 1924 in Quelph Ontario Canada, passed away, April 27, 2005. He moved to the United States with his parents at the age of six months, settled in Rochester, NY. Richard served in the United States Air Force during WWII in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Richard worked for Stromburg-Carlson, retiring after 38 years, then moved to Atlanta, GA and retired from Contel after 15 years. He then moved to Athens, GA in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Brennan and survived by his current wife, Peggy Griffeth Amsler (Joyce); daughter, Patricia Brennan of Athens, GA; sons, Robert and Michael Brennan of Tampa, FL; further survived by his grandchildren Christine Browarski of Lompoc, CA and Mellissa Crouch of Carrboro, NC, Michael Churchill, Delia Jean, Carey Moore, Donnie Pollock, Bridget Pollock, Sean Pollock, Rose Tassillo, all of West Florida; Survived by brother Gerald Brennan of Rochester, NY and sisters, Sheila Bannerman of Wake Forest, NC and Dolly Pohl of Garden Grove, FL; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 pm Saturday, April 30 in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Luther Fouche officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Friday, April 29 at Bernstein Funeral Home.

Danielsville, GA

Linda Gail Cox, 57, Jotem Down Road, died Friday, October 15, 2004.

A native of Clarke County, Linda Cox was a daughter of Oliver and Nancy Fortson Shelnut She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her a son, Ted Shelnut; and a daughter, Jane Croy; and five stepchildren, Larry Cox, Benny Cox and David Cox, Lois Bales and Shirley Moon; and four grandchildren; all of Madison County.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2004 in Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Hull Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Bernstein Funeral Home.

Comer, Ga

Barbara Shelnutt, , age 56 of Waggoners Grove Church Road. passed away on April 15, 2005.

A native of Jackson Co., Mrs. Shelnutt was the daughter of the late James Robert and Ella Louise Barnett Miller. Her husband, Walter Ray Shelnutt, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Archer Grove Holiness Church.

Survivors include sons Danny Ray Shelnutt, Athens; Randy Walter Shelnutt and Andy Oliver Shelnutt both of Comer and Ronald Perry Shelnutt, Royston; brother Doug Miller, Colbert; sisters Joan Cotton, Nicholson; Jean Marshall, Watkinsville; Wilda Sanders, Monroe; Nell Puckett, Bogart and Carol Rylee, Homer; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 2PM Monday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Coomes, Rev. Larry Davison, Rev. Terry Griner and Rev. Marty Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 6-8 PM Sunday.

Francis W. Mueller
1931-2004

Athens, GA - Mueller, Francis W. (Bill). Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2004 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie, and four sons; Richard, of Torrington, CT; Douglas of Santa Barbara, CA; Stephen of Prescott Valley, AZ and Timothy of Cumming, GA.

Born March 11, 1931 in New Haven, CT ‹ he was a resident of Thomaston, CT prior to moving to Athens, GA in 1982. He served in the military with the U.S. Naval Reserve for 9 years. He received a degree in Applied Science, M.E. from Waterbury State Technical Institute. At age 20 Bill began his lifelong career with the Seth Thomas Clock Company, (later General Time Corp.) He served in the Thomaston Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years achieving the rank of 2nd Assistant Chief. In 1982 Bill and Marge moved to Athens and he continued his employment with General Time until retirement in 2000.

The addition of grandchildren brought a special joy to Bill's life, and he will always be missed and remembered by Alyssa, Liana, Jordan and Derek. Bill is also survived by several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

1927-2005
Hull, Ga

Edward Lamar Williamson, age 77, Williamson Dr passed away on Sunday January 23, 2005.

A native of Madison County he was the son of the late Leitus and Nobie Booth Williamson. A sister, Margaret Harrison, preceded him in death. Mr. Williamson was a US Army Veteran and was retired from Kendall Inc. where he was employed as a maintenance electrician.

Survivors include his wife Joyce Hardeman Williamson, of Hull; daughters and sons in law Brenda and Marc Kanne of Atlanta; Beverly and Ranel Parks of Athens; Beth and Mike Kittle of Athens; Laura and Royce Bray of Hull; daughter Becky Clark of Athens son and daughter in law Steve and Sharon Williamson of Commerce and son Woody Williamson of Hull; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Black officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday at Bernstein Funeral Home.

Pallbears will be Howell Seagraves, David Langford, Barry Hardeman, Alan Cofer Randy Ray and Ricky Smith.
