Mr. Larry C. Mundy, age 62, of Auburn, GA passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Louise Phillips Mundy; and grandparents, Lewis and Clara Phillips and Lee and Nora Mundy. He is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Brenda Day Mundy, Auburn, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rocky Brittingham, McAlester, OK and Robin and Chip Daniel, Newnan, GA; sons, Michael Mundy, Auburn, GA and Jason Mundy, Lawrenceville, GA; three grandchildren, Sharon A. Mundy, Alecia Amos and Molly Daniel; four great grandchildren; sisters, Lanetta Davis, Lawrenceville, GA, Deborah Cheek, Winder, GA and Stephanie Carroll, Braselton, GA; brother, Ricky Mundy, Oakwood, GA; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Mundy was born January 29, 1949 in Buford, GA. He received his education at Dacula High School in Dacula, GA. He was a welder for Metal Products Inc. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Buford, GA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Landress and Rev. Raleigh T. Mr. Daniel C. “Dan” Cole, age 85, of Buford, Georgia passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Dora Knight Cole; brothers, Willie Cole and Hutchinson Cole; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifford and Adell King. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Betty King Cole, Buford, GA; children, Ricky Cole, Buford, GA, Ronnie and Ann Cole, Flowery Branch, GA, and Donna and Mike Thornton, Buford, GA; grandchildren, Emily Marie Cole Crews, Rodney Dale Cole, Rebecca and Adam Hughes, Lauren Thornton and Cole Thornton; great grandchildren, Holden Crews, Casey Cole, and Claire Cole; sister, Alma Mae Kendrick, Algonac, MI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Cole was born on January 19, 1926. He was a graduate of Sugar Hill High School in Sugar Hill, GA. He was a World War II Army Veteran in the 27th Infantry. Mr. Cole was a former Deputy Sheriff of Buford and was elected Sheriff of Gwinnett County in 1960. He coached little league baseball for a number of years and carried the team to the World Series. He was a former president of the Kiwanis Club in Buford in the late 1950’s and a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a Mason and member of the Buford Masonic Lodge No. 292 F.& A.M. He was a member of the Buford Lions Club and a member of both V.F.W. and Buford American Legion Post 127. He was owner of Cole Used Cars for a number of years. He was a Realtor and lifetime member of the Million Dollar Real Estate Club. He was a former owner of Dan Cole Investments. He was a big help in getting the property for the E. E. Robinson Park in Sugar Hill, GA. Dan was brought up the hard way. His mother died when he was eight years old. He was a most loving and giving person. His goal was to help anyone who needed it. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His family was dear to him. He was of the Baptist Faith and taught Sunday School for many years. His faith in God got him through the long years of sickness. The family would like to give a special thank you to Guardian Hospice, Joyce and Cathy for the wonderful care given to Dan and his family. Mr. Jack E. Goodwin, age 69, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011. He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Eunice Goodwin, Lawrenceville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Mechelle and Bill Cooksey, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; son, Jacky Goodwin, Jersey, GA; step children, Amy and Gayelord Langley, Decatur, GA and Libby and Tracey Miller, Fayetteville, GA; four grandchildren, Sarah Louderback, Nathan Langley, Micah Miller and Emerson Miller; sisters, Dorothy Coker, Alexander, NC, Brenda Wright, Weaverville, NC, Florence Spangler, Seymour, TN, Loretta Houser, Knoxville, TN and Nellie Ruth Buckner, Weaverville, NC; and brothers, John Goodwin, Spring City, TN and Bill Goodwin, Washburn, TN. Mr. Goodwin was born February 16, 1942 in Knoxville, TN. He was a 1960 graduate of Young High School in Knoxville, TN. He was employed with Agilysys Co. in Greenville, SC as a service tech. L. and Kathelene Sadler; sisters, Christine Young, Dorothy Haynes, Alice Faulkner, Shirley Sadler, Brenda Styles, Sandra Dorsey and Catherine Cantrell; and brother, Leo Sadler. Mr. John Wayne Franklin, age 58, of Suwanee, GA passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Everett Franklin and Hazel Johnson Franklin. He is survived by his sister, Kay Franklin, Suwanee, GA; uncles, Washington Newton Franklin, Lawrenceville, GA and William Andrew Franklin, Duluth, GA and several cousins. Mr. Franklin was born May 3, 1953 in Duluth, GA. He was a 1971 graduate of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, GA. He was a shipping clerk in the computer industry. He was of the Methodist Faith. Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, GA. Monica Florence McGowan originally from Franklin, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. She was a lover of the symphony and any kind of theatrical plays. She probably read every book in the Dekalb Library System and was so grateful for their program where they sent books to elderly patrons who could no longer drive to the library. She was a diehard Democrat who never missed voting in any election. She was widowed at the age of 59 and began a second lifetime of traveling. Her travels took her across 7 continents and over 50 countries. She rode down the Nile River, she stayed in tree huts in Africa, went on a safari, rode elephants in Thailand and camels in Egypt. She went on hot air balloon rides, heli-hiking in Canada and on a bi-plane simply because she had never done it. She met friends during her travels that became her life long friends and travel companions. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis B. McGowan. She leaves behind 3 children: Frank B. McGowan of Flowery Branch, GA, Steve A. McGowan of Mill Valley, CA and Connie McGowan White of Atlanta, GA. She has 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Sarah Coleman. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews across Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. She was affectionately known by friends as Monie and her grandchildren as Grams. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA. On Tuesday, May 17, 2011, Mary Lee Leineweber, age 47, left this earth for heaven. She was born in Decatur, GA and lived in Atlanta most of her life though her last years were spent in Rabun County, GA. While a teenager, she professed her faith and was baptized at the Northeast Baptist Church in Atlanta. She was a devoted loving mother and a creative free spirit. Her artistic talent as a local stained glass artist was appreciated and admired by many. She was a personal trainer and fitness model who encouraged and inspired others. Her sweet inner beauty and kind heart will be missed by many including her thoughtful and loving son, Kyle, who will miss her greatly. Her vivacious approach to life was infectious and inspiring and always focused on what she could do for others. Lee loved her friends and family and they all loved her dearly. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA with Dr. Thomas E. Leland and Rev. Charles Gilliland officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. She is survived by her father Larry and step mother Charlotte Leineweber of Buford, GA and mother Marilyn Donalson of Mtn. City, GA. She will also be missed by her sister Leslie and husband Drew Vecchione, brother Don and Art Mendenhall. She is also survived by nieces and nephews as well as many cousins. She leaves behind her Grandmother “Mamma” Catherine Donalson of Cape Coral, FL and many friends. Mr. John S. Bond, age 89, of Buford, GA and formerly of Bastrop, LA passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Maxine Evans Bond and father and mother, James L. and Frances Elizabeth Bond. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Johnette Bond Alex and husband, Gary B. Alex, Dacula, GA; grandchildren, Evans and Rene Howell, San Cruz, CA, Ashley Howell Kaplan and husband, Adam Kaplan, Weston, FL, Dr. Glenn Alex and wife, Arlene Alex, Athens, GA and Gregg and Cynthia Alex, Salt Lake City, UT; nine great grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Barney Clement, Spanish Fort, AL. Mr. Bond was born May 27, 1921 in Haynesville, LA. He served six years in the U. S. Air Force where he was a 1st Lieutenant Fighter Pilot flying 36 missions over Germany in World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the European Theater Medal with 5 Battle Stars, and received two unit Presidential Citations. He was a member of the 78th Fighter Group Association and a member of the 8th Air Force Historical Association. Mr. Bond served as Mayor of the City of Bastrop for 16 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop, LA and an Ordained Deacon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. John D. Mr. Thiago Campos, age 25, of Suwanee, GA passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lea Tracy. He is survived by his mother, Dea and Carlos Palmer, Suwanee, GA; brother, Andrew Palmer, Suwanee, GA; grandfather, Robert Tracy, Liberia, LA; aunt, Suzanne Tracy, Sugar Hill, GA; cousins, Roberto and Laura Cerqueira and Maria Antonia Cardoso; and other relatives. Mr. Campos was born February 8, 1986 in Brazil. He was a 2004 graduate of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, GA. He was employed with Home Depot in Cumming, GA. He was of the Catholic Faith. Loretta Roberts, 97, of Suwanee, GA passed away on May 16, 2011. To fulfill her lifelong wish her body was donated to Emory Medical School for research. A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Hill Pavilion, 4647 Suwanee Dam Rd., Suwanee, GA 30024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arbin & Effie Roberts and brothers and sister-in-laws Rudolph & Mary Pass, Edison & Reuviel Roberts, Benson & Faye Roberts and nephews Ronald Roberts Scott Roberts and Joe Roberts. She is survived by nieces and nephews Loyd & Donna Pass of Dallas, TX, Joyce Pass Gourley & Jane Pass Moore of Beaufort, SC, Douglas & Diane Roberts of Abbeville, GA, Carolyn Roberts & Wayne Hill of Suwanee, GA, Larry & Pam Roberts of Marietta, GA, Darrel Roberts of Atlanta, GA & Gail Roberts & Gene Newby of Woodstock, GA . She is also survived by 18 great nieces & nephews and 24 great-great nieces and nephews. She graduated from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing, Atlanta; Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, where she received her BSN; and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, where she received her MPH. She taught 6 years in public schools, served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps, during World War II, worked for the American National Red Cross, teaching and serving on disaster teams. Later she taught at the Univ. of Texas Nursing School and Emory Univ. School of Nursing. The last 10 years before her retirement she was the Executive Director of the Visiting Nurse Association of Atlanta. During this time she was the 1st Community Health Nurse to be appointed to the GA Board of Nursing and 1st woman to be named to the Steering Committee of the GA Regional Medical Program. She retired professionally in 1979 and became involved in her home community. She became the 1st woman to be elected to the Suwanee City Council in 1981. She assisted with the early organization of the newly formed Shadowbrook Baptist Church in 1982 and served as its Historian and was a charter member. She provided leadership to organize the Suwanee Old Times, a Senior Citizen Group, later called the Good Timers. She organized the Gwinnett Alliance Theater group, joined the Gwinnett Historical Society and helped organize a chapter of this Society for Suwanee. She provided leadership to begin Day Care Services for families caring for Alzheimer patients. She was a longtime member of Gwinnett County Retired Teacher Association, the League of Women Voters and the Lawrenceville Business and Professional Women’s Club. She belonged to the honorary Societies of Sigma Theta Tau and Alpha Delta Chapter. She received many awards including The Woman of Achievement presented by the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Senior of the year award given in 1988 by the Gwinnett County Council for Seniors. In 2000 she was given the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce Public Service Award and in 1995 she was recognized as one of Gwinnett’s Execeptional Women Leaders by the League of Women Voters. She received a Friend of Education Award from North Gwinnett High School and a Proclamation from the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners expressing appreciation for her Distinguished and Dedicated Public Service. On October 10, 2010, she was the guest speaker at the Roberts Elementary School Dedication where she shared stories of the original Roberts family in Gwinnett County and expressed how fortunate she felt “to be from family stock who valued education and had the initiative to take advantage of forward-looking ideas”. Mr. L.C. Allen, age 83, of Flowery Branch, GA passed away on Monday May 16, 2011. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents Charlie M. & Lennie Allen, and brother Milford Allen. Mr. William James Verschuren, age 74, of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Ellen Verschuren, Buford, GA; son, William B. Verschuren, Duluth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia J. and Scott Soder, Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Zachary Soder and Will Soder; brother and sister-in-law, John C. and Linda Verschuren, Athens, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Verschuren was born October 15, 1936 in Ford City, PA. He was a 1955 graduate of Ford City High School and a 1959 graduate of Indiana University of PA where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a retired teacher and high school coach in the Union County Regional School District at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, NJ after forty years of service. He was a member of the L. A. Roadster Club, Los Angeles, CA, a member of the V.F.W. in Duluth, GA and a member of the Buford American Legion Post.
