Mrs. Marlene Wenzel Lichty, age 76, of Flowery Branch, GA and formerly of Goose Creek, SC passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. She is survived by husband of fifty-three years, Lester C. Lichty, Flowery Branch, GA; daughter and son-in-law, LeAnn and James Davis, Camby, IN; sons and daughters-in-law, Les and Connie Lichty, Flowery Branch, GA and Loren and Nancy Lichty, Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Megan Davis, James Davis, Shannon Davis, Faith Davis, Craig Lichty, Jason Lichty, Loren Lichty, Marion Lichty, Marlene Lichty and Nicole Lichty; eight great grandchildren, Parker Lichty, Quinlyn Lichty, Grant Steiner, Jacob Steiner, Calista Lichty, McKenzie Lichty, Micah Lichty and Aubrey Edwards; sister, Leah Olesen, Salem, OR; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Lichty was born November 29, 1934 in Almena, WI. She attended Minneapolis Business College. She was a retired Avon Sales Representative for twenty-two years. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Goose Creek, SC. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 200 Goose Creek Blvd., Goose Creek, SC 29445 in memory of Marlene Wenzel Lichty.

Mr. Robert R. Allen, age 45, of Auburn, GA passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011. He is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Carla Williams Allen, Auburn, GA; daughters, Amber Allen, Pensacola, FL and Lauren Williams, Auburn, GA; son, Brian Allen, Jacksonville, NC; grandson, Asher Allen; mother, Shirley Vaughn, Commerce, GA; brothers, Ronnie Allen, Commerce, GA, Junior Vaughn, Winder, GA and Joe Vaughn, Commerce, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Church of Winder, 270 Bill Rutledge Road, Winder, GA 30680 with Rev. Tommy Baker officiating. Dorothy “Dot” Sadler Haynes, age 76, of Buford, GA passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Walter Haynes; sons, John Wendell Haynes, and Ronald Haynes; and siblings, Alice (Robert) Faulkner, Brenda (Malone) Styles, Shirley Sadler, Christine (Bill) Young, Catherine “Lulu” (Jerry) Cantrell, Sandra (J.C.) Dorsey and Leo Sadler. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Gwendolyn Smith, Buford, GA, Debra Haynes and Judy and Donnie Nuckles, Buford, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Eva Haynes, Buford, GA, Donald and Tina Haynes, San Francisco, CA and Shane and Lisa Haynes, Findley, OH; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; sister, Jessie Ingram, Buford, GA; sister-in-law, Viola Cantrell, Buford, GA; brothers-in-law, Robert Faulkner, John C. Dorsey, Jerry Cantrell and Malone Styles, all of Buford, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Haynes was born on June 29, 1934 in Flowery Branch, GA. She was employed at Gwinnett Medical Center as a housekeeper. She was a member of Sister Mission Church in Buford, GA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Pastor Betty Sue Earls officiating and John Haynes will give the eulogy. iIntermentwill follow in Hillcrest cemetery in Buford, GA. Mrs. Mercy Chionye, age 41, of Duluth, GA passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. She is survived by her husband, Kelly Chionye; children, David Chionye, Emma Chionye and Ruby Chionye; mother, Grace Unachukwu, Duluth, GA; three sisters; and four brothers. Mrs. Mildred Montgomery Little, age 81, of Pendergrass, GA and formerly of Buford, GA passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Herman and Ola Puckett Montgomery; and sons, James H. Melton and Mark Little. She is survived by her husband of forty-one years, William M. “Bill” Little, Pendergrass, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Britt and Vicki Melton, Jefferson, GA; Michael and Larissa Little, Ila, GA, Danny and Genise Little, Jefferson, GA and Gary Little, Dacula, GA; daughter Robbie Little Ramey, Buford, GA; daughter-in-law, Linda Melton Koonce, Loganville, GA; grandchildren, Harold Melton, Tammy Johnston, Shannon Brown, Corey Little, Brad Ramey, Haley Little, Blaine Little, Caitlan Little and Nicholas Little; eleven great grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and uncle and aunt, Hoyt and Betty Puckett, Buford, GA. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Jennifer “Jenny” Moreland, Flowery Branch, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, April and Devin Christensen, Monroe, GA, Jessica and Dustin Brandon, Provo, UT and Ashley and Ryan Taggart, Gainesville, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeremy Moreland, Salt Lake City, UT and Adam and Jessica Moreland, Spanish Fork, UT; eight grandchildren; father, Roy L. and Betty Moreland, Richardson, TX; mother, Jeanette and Joe Bailey, Anadarko, OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Tobi Moreland, Plano, TX and J. Shutes, Marianna, FL. Mr. Moreland was born November 29, 1954 in Fort Worth, TX. He was owner of Moreland Machinery Inc. in Birmingham, AL. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid billiard player and boater at Holiday Marina in Buford, GA. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gainesville, GA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1234 Riverside Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501 with Bishop Bob Weaver officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. Miriam Elizabeth Bowen Fulgham passed away peacefully on August 13, 2011, after a brief illness. She was born in Bulloch County on January 11, 1923 to Myrtis and G.B. Bowen of Register, Ga. She lived over 50 years in Savannah before moving to Sugar Hill, Ga. to live with her son and daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 36 years, Joseph Bruce Fulgham. Miriam was a graduate of Nevils High School, and attended Valdosta State College. In the summer of 1942, she accepted an invitation to join a government training program in electronics and physics to support the armament efforts of World War II. After completing the initial training, she was selected for advanced training, first at Georgia Tech, and later at Wright Field Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. At Wright Field, she was promoted to Supervisor on the Top Secret team developing high-altitude radar for the bombers of the Manhattan Project. She returned to Bulloch County for Christmas in 1945, and remained to help her parents with their businesses. After moving to Savannah, she continued to work in the grocery business for many years. Miriam was known for her quick wit, positive outlook on life, and in her younger years, as a sharp shooter. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting. She dearly loved her family and friends, and always had an encouraging word for others. Surviving are her children: Chuck Wilkinson, Pamela Wilkinson-Nichols, a son-in-law, Alan Nichols, a grandson, Joseph Nichols, a foster grandson, John Acosta, three sisters, Martha B. Hutchinson, Jackie B. Foy, and Ann B. Lupton. Additional survivors include four nephews, Inman Foy, III, George Hutchinson, Craig and Shawn Mikell, two nieces, Gail Foy, and Holly Pollard, nine great nieces and nephews, a number of cousins, and many special friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially Sadie Dog, who learned from Miriam how to wipe her feet before entering the house. Funeral service for her Atlanta circle of friends will be held at Sugar Hill United Methodist Church on Monday, August 15 at 11:30 a.m. in the main Sanctuary with Pastor Dr. Richard A. Hunter and Rev. Mari Lane Brooks A brief reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow. Visitation in Statesboro will be held Tuesday, August 16 from 10-11:00 am at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home, prior to an 11:30am funeral service. Pastor Butch McKenzie will officiate. iIntermentwill be in Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church cemetery on Highway 301 South. The family will accept flowers and requests that any memorial contributions be made to Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church cemetery Fund, c/o Bobby Tootle, 4715 Twin Forks Rd., Statesboro, Ga. 3045 Friends may sign the online register book at www.joineranderson.com Flanigan’s Funeral Home Buford, GA and Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro are in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carolyn Walker Jackson, age, 78 of Buford, GA passed away on August 12, 2011. She was preceded in death by her Husband Henry Jackson, and daughter Mary Louise Henderson. She is survived by her Daughter Rosa Jackson, Buford, GA; Sons James and Robert Jackson, Buford, GA; Grandchildren Michelle Jackson, Kelly Henderson, Cindy Jackson, Michael Henderson, Kimberly Henderson, Joshua Jackson, Jaron Jackson, and Tanwanda Smith 8 Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Jackson was born on March 3, 1933 in Buford, GA. She was a caregiver for several local Buford families. A member of Union Baptist Church Mrs. Jackson served as a member on the usher board and the motherboard at the church. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 17, 2011 at 3:00P.M. at Union Baptist Church on Bona Road in Buford, with Rev. Kerry Harris officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Old Union Cemetery. The wake will be on Tuesday from 7:00P.M. Until 9:00P.M at the funeral home

Inez Miles, age 96, a long-time special pioneer of Jehovah Witnesses, of Buford, GA fell asleep in death on August 10, 2011. Inez Miles was born on May 1, 1915 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is survived by her brother Sam Salters and her sister Margaret P. Hawkins. Her two daughters, Betty Jean Hills and Frances Parks as well as 4 Grand Children and 4 Great Grand Children. She will be dearly missed and always loved by many, including her spiritual family members. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home.

Mr. Donald R. “Don” Sherwood, age 70, of Buford, GA passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-nine years, Anne Nickles Sherwood; parents, George and Mildred Sherwood; and sister, Diane Oslin. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Sherwood Bowman and husband, Robert A. Bowman, Jr., Jefferson, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Kelly Sherwood, Buford, GA; grandchildren, Addison Bowman, Graham Sherwood, Miles Sherwood and Carson Sherwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Wanda Sherwood, Hoschton, GA, Steve and Becky Sherwood, Marietta, GA and David Sherwood, Shreveport, LA; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Bill Carter, Winston Salem, NC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Sherwood was born December 13, 1940 in Portsmouth, OH. He graduated from Mercer Southern School of Pharmacy where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Vietnam. He was owner of Sherwood’s Drug Shop in Buford, GA. He was a member of Buford First United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Pritchett officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA. Mrs. Abby P. Shirley, age 58, of Buford, GA passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father, Ashby Paulette; mother, Nellie Almond; and sister, Joette Davis. She is survived by her husband of twenty-nine years, Danny P. Shirley, Buford, GA; son, Brett Cole Shirley, Buford, GA; aunt, Gwendolyn Paulette, Appomattox, VA; niece, Emily Jane Shirley, Pelham, AL; nephew, Cody Lane Shirley, Pelham, AL; father-in-law, Claud R. Shirley, Alpharetta, GA; and brother-in-law, Marcus C. Shirley, Cumming, GA. Mrs. Shirley was born December 4, 1952 in Appomattox, VA. She was a 1970 graduate of Appomattox High School in Appomattox, VA. She was a homemaker and also worked for Nuskin. She was involved with anti-aging kinetics based technology. She was a member of Barrier Free Gwinnett. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buford where she was also a member of Open Door Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Buford with Rev. Matt Stacy and Rev. Rev. Viola Haynes Cantrell, age 86, of Buford, GA passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Cantrell, Sr.; and sons, John David Cantrell, John Calvin Cantrell and Jerry Cantrell. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy and Billy Lott, Buford, GA, Shirley Force, Buford, GA and Leola Cantrell, Buford, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Warren Cantrell, Jr. and wife, Elise Cantrell, Buford, GA; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; a special dedicated niece, Minister Emma Lott, Buford, GA; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Cantrell was born July 14, 1925 in Buford, GA. She was a retired nurses aide with Gwinnett Hospital System at Buford General Hospital. She was the former minister and member of Greater Mission Church in Buford, GA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Bishop Ann L. Hardman and Pastor Betty Sue Earls officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Hillcrest cemetery in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Margaret Metzler was born on July 21, 1916 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. Margaret, her husband Ernest and family lived in Pittsburgh and Washington DC before settling in Dunwoody, Georgia in 1968. During World War II, Margaret was recognized with a big splash in the paper as the first female accounting supervisor at the US Steel Company. Margaret also worked part time at the IRS for 15 years. Most of all, she was a loving Mother and Wife with a deep faith. Margaret is survived by two daughters and two sons: Eileen and Jim Padget; Betty and Craig Nelson; Thomas and Linda Metzler and Robert and Cindy Metzler. Margaret is also survived by nine grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia, Friday August 12th at 10:30 a.m.

Mr. Herbert C. Kendall, age 89, of Buford, GA passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Kendall. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mrs. Dolene Parker Kendall, Buford, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Bill Thornton, Flowery Branch, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Janet Kendall, Monroe, GA; five grandchildren, Freddie Beamon, Joey Beamon, Becky Griffith, Amy Clements, and Larry Kendall, Jr.; five step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lela Bell Crenshaw, Oakwood, GA, Estelle Bagwell, Oakwood, GA, Eleanor and Loy Seabolt, Murrayville, GA and Hazel and Harold Collins, Cleveland, GA; brother and sister-in-law, J. He was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from General Motors Assembly Plant after thirty-one years of service and was a member of the U. A. W. Local 10. He was a member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, GA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev.
