June Walker
Graveside services for June Walker of Colorado Springs, Colo., were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. Joyce Tomblin officiated.
Walker, 61, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 in Colorado. She was the daughter of the late Mary Frances Walker.
She was a native of Telfair County and was formerly of Lumber City. Walker was a U.S. postal worker and retired U.S. Army NCO. During her military career, she received several awards such as the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Expert Badge for M-16 Rifle, and the Good Conduct Medal. During her service in Vietnam, she received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
She is survived by sister, Sarah (Larry) Conaway of Lumber City; brother, Russell Walker of Marietta; and uncle, Green (Auguste) Walker of Atlanta. She will be sorely missed by Marki, Golda, Kiwi, Sammy, and all who knew and loved her.

Willene Parker Williams
Services for Willene Parker Williams of Jones County were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at Shurlington Baptist Church in Macon with interment at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Gray.
The Rev. Glenn Cranford and Dr. James C. Bruner officiated.
Williams, 71, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late George Lee Parker and Pauline Cravey Parker, and was married to Albert Tennyson Williams of Jones County.
She was a native of Milan, and had lived in Jones County for the past 42 years. She graduated from Milan High School and was a bookkeeper for S&S Cafeterias, a merchandiser for American Greetings Cards and was a member of Shurlington Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Myra and Sam Parrisher of Augusta; Alane and Earl Humphries of Jones County; and Paula and Cliff Holmes of Gray; sisters and brother-in-law, Etta Maude Cameron of Macon and Carole and Bobby Doherty of Perry; brother and sister-in-law, George and Darlene Parker of Allentown; grandchildren, Nancy Wiggins, Katie Melton, Mendy Johnston, Sarah Parrisher, Kara Humphries, Beau Humphries, Leah Humphries, and Marcus Holmes; and four great-grandchildren.

Amy Lou Fulford Blackburn
Services for Amy Lou Fulford Blackburn of Brunswick were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Mike Pollard of Helena Baptist Church and the Rev. Jimmy Waldon of Sterling Church of God officiated.
Blackburn, 79, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006 in Hospice of the Golden Isles of breast cancer. She was married to Oscar F. Blackburn of Brunswick.
She was a native and 40-year resident of Telfair County, and had been a resident of Brunswick for the past 35 years. She owned and operated a restaurant for a number of years, then worked as a waitress and supervisor in other restaurants. She was a member and active in various groups of Beverly Shores Baptist Church and was a 20-year member of Woodmen of the World. She enjoyed baking, cooking, flowers, and her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, survivors include, Marie F. Jeffries, Joanne F. Reynolds, and Jackie F. Day, all of McRae; sisters, Louise Rogers of Jacksonville, Fla., and Inez (Jimmy) Williams of Callahan, Fla.; brother Jim Rhodes of McRae; grandchildren, Jody (Joey) Cooper, Gwen J. (Bill) Wood, Kevin (Crystal) Shurling, all of McRae, and Larry J. (Melissa) Reynolds of Hazlehurst; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Col. (Ret.) Leonard Lamar Murdaugh Jr.
Services for Leonard Lamar Murdaugh Jr. of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 at McRae United Methodist Church with interment in the Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Gordon Dukes Jr. officiated.
Murdaugh, 77, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at his residence in McRae, after an extended illness due to ALS (Lou Gerhig’s Disease). He was the son of the late Leonard Lamar and Theresa Campbell Murdaugh, and was married to Faye McDonald Murdaugh.
A life-long resident of McRae, he graduated from McRae-Helena High School in 1945, attended North Georgia College where he was in ROTC, and received his Associate Degree from Middle Georgia College. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA in Accounting, and received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Atlanta Law School, and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, then entered the U.S. Army Reserve. He was Commander of the McRae unit for several years, and served in various capacities with several units in Georgia, completing educational and other requirements, and he retired as a Colonel from the Reserves.
Murdaugh practiced law, and had a bookkeeping and tax service in McRae for many years. He was a member of the McRae United Methodist Church and a member of the McRae Lions Club, serving as treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Telfair Veterans Association and the Oconee Bar Association.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, survivors include his sons, Randy (Tammy) Murdaugh of McRae, and Scott (Laura) Murdaugh of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandchildren, Andrew Lamar Murdaugh, Kayla Lynn Murdaugh of McRae, Scott McDonald Murdaugh Jr., Josiah Brooks Murdaugh and Brandon Leonard Murdaugh, of Orange Park, Fla.; sister, Eualie Hodges of Decatur; half-sister, Jenny MarAnne Coombs of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Tommy Lee Patterson Jr.
Services for Tommy Lee Patterson Jr. of Milan were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Old Peabody School in Eastman, with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Patterson, 52, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 in Bibb County. He was the son of the late Tommy Peter Patterson Sr. and Zinnie Mae West Patterson, and was married to Fannie Mae Denise Patterson.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, DeWayne B. Patterson; daughters, Tommy T. Patterson, Mahalia A. (Smart) Mincey, Michelle D. Smith, and Sherita S. Smart, all of Milan; a god-daughter, Tamatha R. Melvin of Milan; mother and father-in-law, Robert L. Myra Ann Shephard
Graveside services for Myra Ann Shephard of Vidalia, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick.
Shephard, 57, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006 at the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. She was the daughter of the late Alva Lee and Bessie Lucille Hobby Shephard.
A native of Glynn County, she lived there most of her life, moving to Vidalia in 2002. She was a student at Toombs Service Center in Lyons. She was full of life and loved everyone she knew.
Survived include her brothers, Mike Shephard and wife Eunice of Vidalia, and Weston Shephard of Hilliard, Fla.; sisters, Virginia Steverson and husband, Billy of Helena, and Sherri Sundberg of Atlanta; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

William Alex ‘Bill’ Spires
Services for William Alex “Bill” Spires of McRae were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 in the chapel at Lowe’s Funeral Home in Helena with interment in Midway United Methodist Church cemetery.
The Rev. Alvin Lewis and Carey Knowles officiated.
Spires, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 at McRae Manor Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Joel Ross and Exie Smith Spires, and was married to Elizabeth Kinnett Spires. He was preceded in death by son, Joel Wayne Spires.
He was the owner of Spires Grocery and Tackle Shop for 45 years. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in McRae.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include daughters, Marsha (Wayne) White of McRae and Christy (Chuck) Mitchell of Statesboro; son, Bill (Teresa) Spires Jr. of Marland, Okla.; brothers, George (Lucy) Spires of McRae, and Russell Spires of Savannah; sisters, Becky Walker of McRae, Celestine (Emory) Seay of McRae, and Vivian (J.W.) Cooper of Macon; grandchildren, Ginger White, Rachel Chason, David Spires, William, Margaret and Christa Mitchell, Joel Spires, Stephen Spires and Hope Owens; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ouida McKie Tucker
Services for Ouida McKie Tucker of Fitzgerald were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Tucker, 84, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Olius F. and Lola Wells Tucker of Telfair County. She was preceded in death by husbands, Marvie McKie and William B. (W.B.) Tucker, and two brothers.
A native of Telfair County, she lived most of her life in Fitzgerald, and was a former resident of Eastman. She was a homemaker, a former lunchroom lady at Ashton School, former employee of White Swan Laundry, and was retired from H.R. Kaminsky & Sons. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
She is survived by children, Shirley Dobbins of Fitzgerald, Marvin McKie of Summerville, S.C., Cindy Tucker of Ocilla, Mike Tucker of Pace, Fla., Zelna Nunn and Sandra Singletary, both of Fitzgerald, and Larry Tucker of Lake City, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brothers, Felix Tedders of Macon, and Grady Tedders of Eastman.

Berta Carpenter Cooper
Services for Berta Mae Carpenter Cooper of Ocilla, formerly of Jacksonville were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 at Blockhouse Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Cooper, 87, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006. She was the daughter of the late W.C. and Eliza McLeod Carpenter and was the widow of Slaten Alto Cooper. She was preceded in death by sons, Jimmy Cooper and Gene Cooper.
A native of Telfair County where she lived most of her life, she was a retired secretary for the Telfair County Extension Service and was a member of Blockhouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Hendley of Ocilla; daughters-in-law, Mildred Cooper of Jacksonville and Marjorie Morrow of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Jerry Cooper of Camilla, Sherri Hendley and Billy Hendley, both of Tifton; and a great-grandson, Hunter Cooper of Camilla.
