Dorothy Eason Lee

Dorothy Eason Lee, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 in the Winyah Hospice of Charleston, S.C. after an extended illness. She was a native of Appling County and had lived in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. for the past three years. Mrs. Lee was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was retired as Vice President of Bank of America, where she had been employed for 30 years. Mrs. Lee was born Dec. 9, 1919 to the late James Park Eason and the late Effie Mae Swinson Eason. She was the widow of Julius Norten Lee.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Wade H. Barrineau of Isle of Palms, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan Norten and Jennie Lee of Madison; one brother, Montee Eason of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9 at 11:00 a.m. from Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Julian Tucker officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Richard Eason, Earl Eason, Wade Hampton Barrineau IV, Jon Paul Joseph Barrineau, Claybourne Lee Barrineau and Corry Eason Barrineau.
Musical selections were rendered by Glenda Reeves.
Memorials may be made to Winyah Hospice of Charleston, S.C. or Bethel United Methodist Church c/o Beverly Eason, 13965 Ten Mile Rd., Surrency, Ga. 31563.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Ella F. Martin

Ella F. Martin, 97, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The Pooler native was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler and was preceded in death by her husband, Colon C. Martin. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Inez E. Martin of Pooler, Vera Idell Ray of Bloomingdale, Mary Ellen and Donald Stafford of Augusta and Ann M. and Jimmy Bashlor of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Colon F. "Buck" Martin and Jeanette of Stilson; and 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 Thursday, July 14 from the West Chatham Chapel of Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home. iIntermentfollowed in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Cleo Yawn Overstreet

Cleo YawnOverstreet, 88, died Thursday, July 7, 2005 in the Appling HealthCare System. She was born Jan. 10, 1917 in Appling County and had resided here all of her life. Mrs. Overstreet was a homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evans Overstreet, Sr. Mrs. Overstreet was the daughter of the late Evan Yawn and Ava Sapp Yawn.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Joe and Bill Smith of Fayetteville, NC; nine sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Nettie Mae Overstreet of Hazlehurst, Bobby and Karen Overstreet of Hazlehurst, Evans and Janell Overstreet of Alma, Billy and Judy Overstreet of Cordele, Dale and Lucy Overstreet of Baxley, Donnie Overstreet of Lyons, Tommy Overstreet, Terry and Sharon Overstreet, all of Baxley and Larry and Patricia Overstreet; two sisters, Midian Sellers and Dorthy Purvis, both of Hazlehurst; one brother, Colquitt Yawn of Hazlehurst; 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10 from the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Yawn and the Rev. Brad Parks officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Oak View Baptist Church cemetery in Jeff Davis County.
Active pallbearers were Herman Sellers, Vernon Stone, Jr., Lewis Sellers, Calvin Clements, Tim Howard, Eugene Stone and Charles Stone.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Dale Spell, Connie Arnold, Courtney Spell and Eileen Stone.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Grace Shumans Rowland

Grace Shumans Rowland, 77, of Hazlehurst, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2005. Mrs. Rowland was a native of Jeff Davis County. She was the daughter of the late John and Ola McDonald Hannah and the wife of the late Ira Lee Shumans and Alvin Rowland. Mrs. Rowland was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Sue and Jessie Paniagua of Hazlehurst, Peggy and Charlie Leggett of Baxley, Donna and Randy Whitehead of Newnan, Patricia and Leland Hughes of Hazlehurst and Marie and Mickey Hester of Lithia Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Wanda Rowland of Hazlehurst; three sisters, Jeanette Huff of Madison, Clara Higginbotham of Live Oak, Fla. and Roberta Hannah of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Walter Hannah of Pine Mountain; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. from Big Oaks Church of God in Appling County with the Rev. Terry Taylor, the Rev. Virginia Herrington and the Rev. Charles Carter officiating. Burial followed in Satilla Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Jeff Davis County.
Active pallbearers were Shawn Rowland, Matt Hughes, Jimmy Bohannon, Jr., Andrew Smith, Jimmy Lee, Johnny Ryles and Jace Ryles.
Music was rendered by Charlie Leggett, Shirley Shumans and Big Oaks Church of God Choir.
Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert "Peanut" Sharpe

Robert "Peanut" Sharpe, 45, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. He was a native of Appling County and had lived here most of his life. Peanut was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Local 256. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl Sharpe, Sr. and Mary Lee Harrell Sharpe.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Carter Sharpe of Baxley; one son, Robert Clayton Sharpe, Jr. of Baxley; two brothers, James Earl Sharpe, Jr. and wife, Kathy and Gerald Keith "Shorty" Sharpe, all of Hazlehurst.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15 from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Daniels and the Rev. Royce Hulett officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Dean Ext.
Active pallbearers were Paul Carter, Ronnie Hunter, Marvin Griffis, J.C. Blanton, Charlie Williams, Brandon Herndon, Travis Sharpe and Stacy Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers were Stanford and Barbara Dean, David H. Carter, Pat and Joyce Williams, the Rev. James and Janie Carter, Jean Cooper, Debi Hendrix, Scott and Beverly Cooper, Carol Williams, Spencer and Jean Taylor, Lawrence and Robyn Proctor, Mary Ann Forster, Dale Carter, James Cason, Robyn Shefka, David and Roxanne Crosby, Dan and Pat Webster, Lewis Parker, Bill Parker, Frances Daniels, Dana and Butch Edenfield, Michael and Tammy Hunter, Richard Griffin, Ed Lashley, Staff of Appling HealthCare System and Members of Local 256.
Musical selections were rendered by Floyd Hunter and Cecile Griffin.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Wanda Ellen Wilson

Wanda Ellen Wilson, 51, of Surrency, died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Appling HealthCare System after a brief illness.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Annie Laurie Wilson.
Survivors include one daughter, Hattie Britt of Monroe; three sisters, Sandra Perkins of Jacksonville, Fla., Phyllis Hughes of Hazlehurst and Leslie Newsome of Surrency.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Banker officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Doug Wilson, Jerry Howell, Wade Holland, Carl Hendricks and Gerald Thomas.
Musical selections were rendered by Cindy Morris and Ann Jones.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Bonnie L. Williams

Bonnie L. Williams, 76, of Baxley, passed away Monday, May 9, 2005 at his residence. Williams was a native of Jeff Davis County and had resided in Appling County for the past 28 years. He was the son of the late Thomas and Carrie Wilcox Williams. He was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church and was a retired electrician. Williams served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Edda Mae Williams of Baxley; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kay Williams of Hazlehurst, Ronald and Denise Williams of Lawrenceville and Steve and Linda Williams of Baxley; three sisters, Eva White, Lois Powell and Shirley LaRoche, all of Hazlehurst; four brothers, Preston Williams and T.J. Williams both of Hazlehurst, Vernon Williams of Martinez and Johnny Williams of North Augusta, SC; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held May 12 at 2:00 p.m. from Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Scottie Pitts and the Rev. Andy Williams officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Brad Disharoon, Stevie Williams, Chris Creamer, Glenn Stacks, Roy Wigley and Jerry Schoendienst.
Honorary pallbearers were all attending the service.
Musical selections were rendered by Adrian Creamer, Lorie Washam and members of the congregation.
Arrangements were under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home of Hazlehurst.

Wright L. "Monk" Bullard

Wright L. "Monk" Bullard, 65, died Monday, May 9, 2005 in the Appling HealthCare System. Bullard was born August 30, 1939 in Appling County and had resided here all of his life. He was a retired construction worker. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Bullard and was the son of the late Odell Bullard.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Carter Bullard of Baxley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susie and Ronnie Hunter and Marla and James Tomberlin, all of Surrency; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy L. and Kellie Bullard of Hillard, Fla.; his mother, Essie Mae Bullard of Baxley; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Ed Rentz, Missy and Carlton Griffin and Skizzal Bullard, all of Baxley; one brother, Boozie Bullard of Baxley; sister-in-law, Ann Bullard of Baxley; nine grandchildren, Theresa Bullard, Patrick Bullard, Bryan Bullard, Michael Hunter, Nichole Hunter, Nesbitt Tomberlin, Brent Tomberlin, Alicia Bowers and Mony Tomberlin; and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Reverends Rick Brown and Charles Carter officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Michael Hunter, Patrick Bullard, Bryan Bullard, Odie Tomberlin, Brad Pickren and Allen Dukes.
Honorary pallbearers were Melina Edmund, Delynda Hayes, Dr. Fordham, Ken Bass, Glynn Bass, Aquilla Parker and all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by The True Believers.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

John Lewis Coleman

John Lewis Coleman, 87, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 after a short illness. He was a native of Mississippi and had lived in Appling County for the past 38 years. Coleman was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of Georgia Power Ambassadors. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Coleman retired from Southern Company where he was a member of Pipefitters Local 177.
He is survived by his wife, Allene Lasseter Coleman of Baxley; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Francis and Loomis Johnson of Wetumpka, AL; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Peggy White Chancey of Baxley; one step-daughter, Deloris and Dennis Murphy of Screven; two step-sons, Joe and Marie Lasseter of Watkinsville and Reggie Lasseter of Alpharetta; eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14 at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben DeFore officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the White Family Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Grandsons, Gregory Johnson, Jayson Chancey, Reedy Lasseter, Alan Turner, Lewis Chancey, John "Pebo" Chancey and Tommy Sellers.
Honorary pallbearers were Brothers of Pipefitters Local 177 of Brunswick and Dr. Errol Graham and staff.
Musical selections were rendered by Asbury United Methodist Church Choir, Floyd Hunter and Debra Youmans.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
