Phillip (Randy) Yearty

Phillip (Randy) Yearty, age 47, of Alma passed away suddenly due to injury sustained in an automobile accident Monday night, March 21, 2005.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Rev. Bennie Yearty. Mr. Yearty was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Yearty.
He was employed by Douglas Asphalt Co. of Douglas and a member of Mims Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Irene Phillips Yearty of Alma; his wife, Ellen Louise Lawson Yearty of Alma; a son, Adam Yearty of Alma; a stepdaughter, Holly Taylor of Alma; a brother, George Yearty and wife Lynette of Alma; a granddaughter, Jaden Pilar Taylor of Alma. Also several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 24, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Murray and Rev. Scott Hatten officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Douglas Chapel Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Leon Starling, Ricky Davis, James Hatten, Stevie Ellis, Gary Ellis, Danny Varnadore and Roy Varnadoe. Honorary pallbearers were employee’s of Douglas Asphalt Co.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Johnny Curtis Aston

Johnny Curtis Aston, age 55, passed away Friday, March 18, 2005 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Johnny was a mechanic. He had a love for working and worked for Bell Helicopter for five years. He was also an avid fisherman, loved motorcycle riding and just being outdoors.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Annick Aston; sons, Steven Dale Aston and wife Bonnie, Jimmy Daniel Aston and wife Brandy of Nicholls; daughter, Celina Lyle and husband Neil; mother, Neomia Aston and sisters, Gwen Aston, Barbara Graham and husband Ronnie, Sharon Roe and husband J.J. Jackson, Joann Kennemur and husband Ernie. Six grandchildren, many aunts, uncles and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the chapel of Mountain Valley Funeral Home. iIntermentfollowed in Caddo Cemetery.

Joseph Albert Taylor, Jr.

Joseph Albert Taylor, Jr. (Jake), (J.A.), age 71, of Alma passed away Monday afternoon, March 21, 2005 in the St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida after a short illness.
He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Joseph Albert Taylor, Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Bonnie King Taylor of Alma; his wife, June Lacey Taylor of Alma; one daughter, Karen Gordon and husband Leonard of Conyers; one brother, Dorriss Taylor and wife Eva of Brunswick; one sister, Willene Williams and husband Delbert of Decatur and three grandchildren, Joe Gordon of McDonough, Mary Ann Gordon of Conyers and Paul Gordon of Monticello. Also three great grandchildren survive.
Graveside services were held Thursday morning, March 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Chapel Church cemetery with Rev. Lowell Lee officiating.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Norma Davis Carmicheal

Norma Davis Carmicheal, age 83, of Nicholls, passed away Wednesday morning, March 23, 2005 at the Coffee Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Coffee County, daughter of the late Steve Davis, Sr. and Pearl Brown Davis. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, L.M. (Mike) Carmichael and a brother, D.S. Davis, Jr.
Survivors include a niece, Glenda Overstreet of Charlotte, NC and a nephew, Steve Spence Davis, III of Tallahassee, FL.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, March 25, 2005 at the First Methodist Church in Nicholls with Rev. James Boyd and Rev. Robert Tanner officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Hall Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were J.V. Lee, Paul Taylor, Danny Hersey, Dewayne Streat, George and Chris Kirkland. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Eloise J. Medders

Eloise J. Medders, age 70, of New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away Thursday evening, March 24, 2005 after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Vasco Johnson and Ettie Varnadore Johnson and wife of the late James Doyle Medders.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Medders and wife Linda of Nicholls, Norman Ray Medders and wife Elizabeth and James Roger Medders and wife Lisa, all of New Smyrna Beach, FL; two daughters, Janet Kitzmiller and husband Steve of Oak Hill, FL and Judy Davis of Crescent City, FL; two brothers, Obie Johnson of Orlando, FL and Ruben Johnson of Baxley and three sisters, Janet Hardrick of Baxley, Louise Tanner and Mary Bell, both of Alma. Also twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning, March 26, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Elder David Pollard officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Lee’s Chapel Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ben Kitzmiller, Cory Kitzmiller, Chris Kitzmiller, R.J. Medders, Matt Nelson and Gary (Bubba) Medders, Jr.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

George L. Mixon

George L. Mixon, age 75, of Alma passed away Sunday, March 27, 2005 in the Twin Oaks Convalescent Center in Alma.
He was a native of Appling County. He was the son of the late Eugene Mixon and Georgia Bell Crews Mixon. Mr. Mixon was a timber producer and was a member of the New Vision Church in Alma.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise Scrubb of Waycross, Betty and Frank Smith of Lumber City, Hazel and Homer Staley of Jacksonville, Ann Simmons of Alma, Rachel Marie and W.F. McRee of Alma and a brother, F.B. Mixon of Baxley. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst with Rev. Therman Hayes and Bro. Larry Barber officiating. Music was rendered by Mary Lou Taylor, Mandy Hall and Pam Smith. iIntermentfollowed in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Billy Taylor, Bobby Taylor, Ben Boyd, Paul Smith, Tony Smith and Daniel Smith.
Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst was in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie Henry Jackson

Jessie Henry Jackson, age 61, passed away Monday evening, March 14, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Wheeler County, son of the late Earl Jackson and Vertis Rogers.
Survivors include two cousins, David and Freddy Carroll of Montezuma and friends of Cypress Hill Group Home of Alma.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Campground Methodist Church with Rev. H.L Parr and James Boyd officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Pat Tanner, Bubba Simmons, James Stewart, D.L. Cothern, Greg Tanner and Roy Hayes. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance and with Special Recognition to Satilla Community Service Center, Cypress Hill Group Home and Twin Oaks Nursing Home.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Edsel S. Miles

Edsel S. Miles, age 80, of Alma passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late James Archie Miles and Ruth Chancey Miles. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Ethel Miles and a son, Joseph Edsel Miles.
Edsel was a longtime member of Edenezer Advent Christian Church. He was a veteran of WW II and retired from the U. S.. Air Force after 21 years of active service. He was Hospital Administrator in Alma and Sparta, Georgia for twelve years. Thereafter he was the lay speaker for Ebenezer Advent Christian Church and farmed for several years prior to retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Henderson Miles of Alma; two sons, John Miles and wife, Pam, James Miles and wife Tammy, all of Alma, two daughters, Judy Rowland and husband Ron of Alma and Janet Buchanan and husband Doug of Braselton and one brother, Winston Miles and wife Sara of Mershon. Also, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive.
Graveside services with full military honors were conducted Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Wesley Chapel Church cemetery on Highway 203 with Rev. Mark Carver officiating. and Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Christine Sullivan Palmer

Christine Sullivan Palmer, age 54, of Alma passed away Tuesday evening, March 8, 2005 at the Satilla Regional Hospital in Waycross after a short illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Perkins James Sullivan and Vassie Peacock Sullivan. Christine was preceded in death by her husband O.D. Palmer, a sister, Geneva Warden and a brother, Danny Sullivan.
Survivors include a son, Michael Palmer and wife Amber of Alma; one daughter, Rebecca Palmer and husband Marshall Anderson of Alma; two brothers, John Sullivan of Alma and James Sullivan of Waycross; four sisters, Odessa McDermott, Marie Summerall, Ruthie Sullivan, and Patsy Kirby all of Waycross and two grandchildren, Sierra and Jayden Palmer both of Alma.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Barth, Rev. Pet Hayes, Rev. Mark Carver and Rev. Carlton Ring officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Little John McDermott, Danny Sullivan, James Sullivan, Boyd Boatright, Bryan Barber, Bruce Boatright, Joey Tanner and Timmy Carter.
Honorary pallbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Timmy Gilliard, J.L. Ricketson & Family, Mr. & Mrs. James Carter, Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Johnson, Ms. Glenda Barber, Mr. and Mrs. David Alderman, Ms. Mary Tanner, Ella Medders and Jimmy Lawson.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nellie Thomas

Nellie Thomas, age 78, of Alma passed away Wednesday morning, March March 9, 2005 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Edsel Butler and Minnie Mims Butler. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton (Teddy) Thomas; three brothers, Ralph, Jimmy and Claude Butler and a sister, Verlene Benton.
Survivors include a son, Roger Thomas and wife Mary of Waycross; one daughter, Pam Lee and husband Billy Ray of Alma; one brother, Royce Butler of Moncks Corner, SC; two sisters, Rittie Sagner of St. Augustine, FL and Mildred Lee of Alma and four grandchildren, Barrett Lee, Brandi Williams both of Alma, Regina Thompson of Brunswick and Tiffany Thomas of Waycross. Also two great grandchildren, Brendon and Brice Williams of Alma.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Community Church with Rev. Lowell Lee and Rev. Brett Roberts. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Brian Williams, Adrian Thompson, Jeff Taylor, Jimmy Bagley, Jerry Rigdon and Wes Wright. Honorary pallbearers were the Health Dept. Home Care Staff, Bacon Co. Health Dept. Staff, Dr. Errol Graham, Cliff Mobley, Velmar Benton, Wazette Benton, Bruce Benton, Russell Tanner, Frank Johnson, Jones Johnson, Jerry D. Taylor, Ray Boatright, Harry T. Johnson, Lillie Mae Carelock, Marcella Williams, Nell Wood and Speed Paulk.
