Emma Lee Burkett

Emma Lee Burkett, age 90, passed away Thursday evening, March 10, 2005 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was a native of Coffee, daughter of the George Stapleton and Emma Cumbass Stapleton. Emma was preceded in death by her husband Felton Burkett, a son, Charles Burkett, a granddaughter, Debra McLaughlin and several brothers and sisters.
She was also a member of Burkett Baptist Church in Coffee County.
Survivors include her son, Harold Burkett and wife Thelma of Alma and daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Burkett, wife of the late Charles Burkett of Alma. Also six grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Burkett Baptist Church in West Green with Rev. Bryan Herrington officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Daniel Herrington, Jim Hamilton, Joel and Dillon McLean, Ben, Reed and Clint Burkett, Jordan McGuire, Dakota Wade, Morgan Burkett and Jonathan Reinholz.
All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

LeeReta McKuhen

LeeReta McKuhen, age 85, passed away Friday morning, March 11, 2005 at the Shady Acres Nursing Home in Douglas.
She was a native of Emanuel County, but had lived in Bloomingdale many years and Nicholls since 1985. LeeReta was the daughter of the late T. J. Phillips and Betty Wilkes Phillips and was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony McKuhen, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Smith and husband Jerry of Cave Springs and Elaine Gilliard and husband Donald of Nicholls; one sister, Betty Jean Stewart and husband Aaron of Pooler and three grandchildren, Glenn Smith of Hiram, Mike and Tony Gilliard, both of Nicholls. Also five great grandchildren survive.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. in Hall cemetery with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating.
Pallbearers were Mike Gilliard, Tony Gilliard, Pat Stewart, Glenn Smith and Justin Gilliard.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Edsel Boatright

Edsel Boatright, age 76, of Alma, passed away Monday morning, March 14, 2005 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was a native of Bacon Co., son of the late Jessie J. Boatright and Addie Lee Carter Boatright. Edsel was also preceded in death by four brothers, Roy T. Sr., W.F., Delmon and Junior Boatright and Larry V. Carter and three half brothers, J.E., Russell and Gary Boatright. Survivors include, step mother, Goldie Boatright of Alma; his wife, Betty Peacock Boatright of Alma; a son, Keith Boatright and wife Faye; three daughters, Sherri Godwin and husband Cecil, Glenise Wade and husband Dorsey, all of Alma and Kara Jones and husband Patrick of Waycross; one brother, Darrell Boatright of Alma; two half brothers, Joey Boatright and Richard Boatright, both of Dublin; five sisters, Vera Lee of Alma, Betty Woods of Ft. Myers, FL, Jane Robertson of Athens, Sue Leger of Ft. Myers, FL and Kaye Boatright of Alma.
Also nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at New Vision Church with Rev. Pet Hayes, Rev. Jimmy Carter and Rev. Ernest McCarty officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in New Hope Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kevin Godwin, Donald Eason, Milton Wade, Roy T. Boatright, Jr., Darrell Boatright, Tim Carter, Roy Burkett, Jr., Jerry Boatright and Greg Burkett.
Honorary escorts were Cathy Godwin, Robert Sapp, Jamie Johnson, Cindy Lee, Dara Streat, Kathy Tatum, Connie Walton, Dr. Ralph Proenza and Sandy, David Dudley, Larry Barber, Cindy Waters, Jenny Harden, Nell Litman and Duane Deen. Honorary pallbearers were Junior, Mike, Bruce, Frank Waylon, Wendell, Winston, Huelon, E.D. “Short” and Boyd Boatright, Dale Brown, Tony Lee, Joey Buckholts, Nursing Home Staff, Dr. Harrison Carter, Earl Duncan, J.W. and Teresa Swain and Nancy Moore.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James E. Roberson

James E. Roberson, age 57, of Hinesville passed away Monday, February 28, 2005, after suffering a heart attack.
He was a native of Alabama, and lived the past 24 years in Liberty County. He was an entrepreneur, including ownership of several car dealerships, and was president of The Liberty Group. He was a former member of the Liberty County Development Authority, past president of the Hinesville Rotary Club, the Hinesville Lions Club, and Bradwell Boosters Club, and served on The Heritage Bank Board of Directors.
He was instrumental in the establishment of Brewton-Parker College campus in Liberty County. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and a member of Cherokee Rose Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Frances Rozier Roberson of Hinesville; two sons, Mark Roberson of Atlanta and Jordan Roberson of Hinesville; two daughters, Miranda Roberson of Atlanta and Ginny Williams of Statesboro; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to American Diabetes Association, Georgia Affiliate, One Corporate Square, Ste. 127, Atlanta, GA 30329; or to Brewton-Parker College Liberty County Campus, 2140 E. Oglethorpe Hwy., Hinesville, GA 31313.
Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Dolora R. Johnson

Dolora R. Johnson, age 86, of Alma passed away suddenly Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the Late Thomas L. Rigdon and Fannie R. Rigdon and was also preceded in death by her husband, J.W.L. Johnson; two brothers, Jody and Bud Rigdon; a sister, Gwen Douglas and a grandson, Josh Mattson.
Dolora was a member of Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church, a Sunday School Teacher for many years, Church Secretary for many years, President of Ladies Auxiliary, a Pink Lady with Bacon Co. Hospital for several years, Resident Council Chaplin at Twin Oaks and was a retired case worker with DFACS.
Survivors include two sons, George Lawton Johnson and wife Jane of Alma and James Chester Johnson and wife Walli of Middleburg, FL; four daughters, Willene Carter and husband W. F. of Waycross, Zennith Brewer and husband Frank of Alma, Melissa Conner and husband Larry of Alma and Elizabeth Mattson of Savannah; a brother, D.P. (Prem) Rigdon of Alma and two sisters, Valera Douglas and Verlene McDonald, both of Alma. Seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest McCarty and Rev. Eric Brown officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Steve, Donnie and Mitchell Rigdon, Darrell and Tommy Douglas, Billy Ray Mims, Pete (Malcom) Peterson and Danny McDonald. Members of Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church were considered as honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Christine T. Miles

Christine T. Miles, age 78, of Alma passed away Friday morning, March 4, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Charleston, S.C. but had lived in Alma most of her life. She was daughter of the late James Moultrie Turner and Mary Edith Knight Turner and was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Buck Miles, a son, James Leslie Miles and a brother, John W. Turner. She was a member of The First Baptist Church and a retired Beautician.
Survivors include her step-mother, Winifred D. Turner of Alma; two sons, Jerry Miles and wife Alice and Terry Miles, all of Alma and one sister, Jamie Sue Russ of Nashville, Georgia.
Seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister-in-law, Dolores Turner of Wilmington, N.C. and special friends, Margaret Bone, Eloise Aldridge, Evelyn Solomon, Permula Hyers and Nella Harrington.
Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill cemetery with Rev. Ernest McCarty and Rev. Jeff Williams officiating.
Active pallbearers were grand sons, Jamey Duckworth, Chris Neal, Mikeal, Leslie, Ken, Kevin and Ryan Miles. All those in attendance were considered as honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Roe Boatright

Roe Boatright, age 86, of Alma passed away early Monday morning, February 21, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Thomas Mack Boatright and Kate Moody Boatright. Roe was preceded in death by several brothers, sisters and a grandson, Kevin Boatright.
He was in the U.S. Air Force serving in WWII, retired farmer and a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Delphine Jordan Boatright of Alma; two sons, Van Boatright and wife Lawanda of Blackshear and Dan Boatright and wife Linda of Alma and five grandchildren, Julie Rewis of Blackshear, Wendy Horton of Kennesaw, Waylon Boatright, April Boatright and Ashlyn Boatright, all of Alma. Also four great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Rev. E.C. Crews and Rev. Brian Gill officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Waylon Boatright, Rhett Horton, Jordy Rewis, Rocky Willingham, Marty Hilton and Glenn Carter. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nonnie Mae Hutto

Nonnie Mae Hutto, age 75, of Alma passed away early Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Edward D. Simmons and Ida Belle Moore Simmons. Nonnie was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Hutto; a son, Billy Ray Hutto; three sisters, Iris Hutto, Jackie DeLoach and Gloria Trowell and two brothers, Emmett H. Simmons and Wilton (Pete) Simmons.
Survivors include four sisters, Aleatha Crosby, Wilma Holman, Ida Andrews, all of Alma and Mary Parrish of Callahan, FL.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at New Hope Church cemetery with Rev. Pet Hayes officiating.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy C. Williams

Jimmy C. Williams, age 63, of Baxley passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was a native of Appling County but had lived in Waycross for many years before moving back in 1999. He was a member of Crosby Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and one son-in-law, Carole and Gary LeVar of Valdosta; two granddaughters, Chelsey LeVar and Ashley LeVar, both of Valdosta and two brothers, Donald Williams of Bossier City, LA and Richie Williams of Baxley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26, 2005 from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Creig Smith officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Crosby Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Randy Livingston, Bobby Mathews, Jeffrey Simmons, Leroy White, Stacey Hutchinson and Stacey Edwards.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
