Lois H. Cloonan

Lois H. Cloonan, age 89, of Alma passed Thursday, October 26, 2006 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native of Colquitt County and daughter of the Lucius Harrell and Mary Van Butler. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, William Cloonan; four brothers, Authur, E.J., Harvey and Carl Harrell; one sister, Ruth Bobo. She was a retired school teacher for over thirty years from the Bulloch County School System.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Scearce of Alma and William C. Scearce and wife Penny of Joplin, Montana; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 29, from Lee's Chapel with Rev. Lowell Lee and Jerald Douglas officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Lela Methodist Church cemetery in Colquitt County.
Active pallbearers were; George, David and John Bobo, Ben Crumley, Danny, David and Jerry Harrell and Victor Varnadore. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

James S. Madison

James S. Madison, of Alma passed, Tuesday, October 3, 2006. He was preceded in death by both his mother Loretta Broady Madison and his brother Ivey Madison.
James was born in Blackshear, Pierce County, Georgia on October 8, 1956. He was the oldest of two sons born to Charlie Madison and the late Loretta Broady Madison. He was reared and educated in the public schools of Cocoa, Brevard County, Florida. After completing his education James relocated back to Georgia. He became employed with D.L. Lees Meat Processing Company. He remained with that company for twenty-five years. James was a loving son, father, grandfather, companion, and friend.
Survivors include his son, Malcolm Madison of Hilton Head, South Carolina; one grandson, Tevin Madison of Hilton Head, South Carolina; his father, Charlie Madison of Cocoa, Florida; a companion, Helen Smith; three step-children, Tiffany, Brandon, Kizzie Smith; three step grandchildren, Ashaunta Williams, Honesty Smith, Shanlya Smith all of Alma; ten aunts, Dorothy Grant of Patterson, Charity Mae Ward of Miami, Verdie Green of Folkston, Linda Johnson of Newark, New Jersey, Rosa Mae Madison of Cocoa, Florida, Ida White of Alma, Alice Taylor of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Betty Kattles of Blakely, Georgia, Velma Floyd of Delaware, Willie B. Kelly of Blackshear; two uncles, Johnny Madison of Alma, William (Monroe) Madison of Fairfax, South Carolina; one great aunt Mattie Brown of Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 8, at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist church with Rev. Jaylen Thomas, and Rev. Stephon Deen officiating. Rev. David Broady was the Eulogist. iIntermentfollowed in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were; Thomas Moore, Tracey Richardson, Troy Moore and Rico Chandler. Honorary pallbearers were; Deacons of Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Litman funeral service was in charge of all arrangements

Rev. Joe E. Davis

Rev. Joe E. Davis, age 52, of Cochran, Georgia passed Saturday, September 16, 2006 in Atlanta Georgia.
He was born in Pierce County, and was the son of the late Travis E. and Rosemary Durden Davis. He had lived in Cochran for the past twenty years. He was a licensed minister with the Church of God of Prophecy for the past twenty years and he was employed at the Robins A.F.B. for twenty years.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Debbie Davis, of Cochran; two children, Starla Grace Davis and Joshua David Davis both of Cochran; one brother, James Travis Davis of Blackshear; two sisters, Teressa Chaney and Dwon Robson both of Blackshear; one cousin, Bruce Smith Rentz.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 16, at My Father House Church with Rev. Larry Williams and Rev. Joey Williams officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Beulah cemetery in Pierce County with Rev. Fred Morgan officiating.
Fisher Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Joseph M. Howell

Bishop Joseph M. Howell, age 73, passed September 13, 2006 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He was stationed at Robins Air Force Base, where he met his wife, Rachel Barker. He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked in Civil Service before he began to pastor in the Church of God. He and his wife served as pastors of the Green Street Church of God in Warner Robins, Georgia for fourteen years, Brunel Street Church of God in Waycross for seven years and Hillcrest Church of God in Columbus, Georgia for fifteen years until they retired in 2000.
He served Chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol, president of the Ministerial Association and Sergeant of arms during eight Church of God General Assemblies. He served on several ministerial boards and was a part time missionary to Haiti, where he assisted in organizing building and financially supported several churches, schools and medical and dental clinics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Noah Howell and Eva Mae Sheppard Howell; several brothers and sisters, all of Mobile, Alabama; one great-granddaughter of Warner Robins, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Rachel B. Howell; three daughters, Teresa D. Caven (Ray), G. Renee Ellis (Don) and Josphine 'Josie' Smith (Mark); twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of Warner Robins; two brothers, William Bill Howell and Bishop David Howell both of Alabama.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 16, in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. iIntermentfollowed in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
McCullough Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Etwenda Carter

Etwenda Carter, age 79, of Alma passed Thursday, October 19, 2006 in the Twin Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County and daughter of the late Lewis D. Carter and Eula Mae Waters Carter.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Carrol Peacock of Atlanta, Donnie Ray Peacock of Alma and Sammy Peacock of Blackshear; two daughters, Katrina Spivey of South Carolina, Jean Tanner and Vickie Carter both of Alma; one brother, Wesley Carter of Alma; two sisters, Nelda Boatright and Glenda Deen both of Alma; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 22, at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Lee and Rev. Bryan Gill officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were; Eric and Chris Tricas, Roger and Shane Peacock, Britt and Dillion Peacock. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Marjorie Faye McAfee

Mrs. Marjorie Faye McAfee, age 59, of West Plains, Georgia passed Wednesday, October 18, at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.
Mrs. McAfee was born December 27, 1946 in Bacon County and the daughter of Jack Hughes and Ruby Moore Hughes whom survive her. She was retired from Magnolia Manor Retirement Center in Americus as a LPN after many years of service and was a member of Heritage Church of God.
Survivors include her husband George McAfee of West Plains; two daughters, and sons in-law, Kathy McAfee Tindel and Ricky of Columbus and Lee McAfee Parker and Dennis of Americus; five grandchildren, Nicole, Marlee, and Alan Tindel of Columbus, and Tiffany and Whitney Parker of Americus. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were; Jimmy Moore, Johnny Dodson, Jerry Cordle, Noel Collver, Steve West and Jason Hancock.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 21, at Heritage Church of God in Americus with Rev. William Hall officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Aldridge funeral services 612 Reese Park was in charge of all arrangements.

Ernest A. McGahee

Ernest A. McGahee, age 84, of Alma passed, Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Coffee County but had lived in Bacon County for many years. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Army.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 23, from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Hayes officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the New Hope Church cemetery in Coffee County.
Active pallbearers were; Lorenzo, Fred, Greg, Tony, Marc and David Hand. Honorary pallbearers were residents and employee's of Twin Oaks Nursing Home.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Tammy White

Tammy White, age 21, of Bossier City, Louisiana, formerly of Alma, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Willis Knighton Hospital in Bossier City, Louisiana, after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Elizabeth White. She leaves to cherish her memories, and her parents, Mark and Della Johnson, of Bossier City; two aunts, Bernice (Rogers) LeConte, of Riceboro; and Samantha (George) Washington, of Alma; one uncle, Curtis (Lucy) White, of Alma and several cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 28, from the First African Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stephon Deen pastor, and Minister Brenda Burse, eulogist.
iIntermentwill follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.
The family will gather at 12 p.m. at the residence of her aunt, Warnell Porter. The family will be receiving friends at the residence of her aunt, Warnell Porter.
Rainge Memorial Chapel, Inc. of Blackshear is in charge of all arrangements.

William Lloyd Holton

William (W.L.) Lloyd Holton, Sr., age 74, of Alma passed Sunday, October 15, 2006 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a native of Jeff Davis County, but had lived in Alma for the past twenty years. W. L. was son of the late Tom Holton and Avie Medders Holton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Holton Holton; three brothers, Ledley (Sing), Lambert and Bo Holton; two sisters, Lois Tanner and Lillie Merle Varnadore.
Survivors include three sons, William Holton, Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Baxley, Tommy Holton and wife Teresa of Nicholls, and Steve Holton and wife Valerie of Alma; two daughters, Kathye Hall and husband George and Sue Kersey and husband Willie all of Baxley; one brother, George Holton of Alma; two sisters, Louise Cothern of Alma and Glenda Wildes of St. Mary's; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great- grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 17, from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with personal eulogy given by, Willie Kersey, Jr. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Level Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were; Cale Holton, William Holton, Jr., T. J. Holton, Willie Kersey, Sr., Steve Holton and Dewey Anderson. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Sarah B. Wheeler

Sarah B. Wheeler, age 79, of Nicholls passed Friday October 13, at the Bacon Co. Hospital.
She was a native of Appling County and had lived in Nicholls most of her life. Sarah was daughter of the late R. W. Branch, Sr. and Eunie Beasley Branch and was also preceded in death by a brother R. W. Branch, Jr. She was wife of the late W. Frank Wheeler, Sr. and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include a son, Frank Wheeler, Jr. of Nicholls; two grandchildren, Frank Wheeler, III of Hinesville, and Dawn Bryan of St. Mary's; three great-grandchildren survive. Also, a cousin, Carolyn Mullis of Baxley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 15, from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Ray Lee officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were; Bobby Bagley, Jr., Johnny and Jimmy Wheeler, Jon Lott, John Tanner and Denny C. Taylor.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
