Jackie Phillips
Mr. Jackie Phillips, 68, of Irwinville, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at the Ocilla Church of God, with Rev. Clayton Dowd, Rev. Matthew Rowell and Rev. Sonny Pate officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips’ grandchildren will serve as pallbearers: Lance, Corey, Chase, Scott, Austin, Ty and Olivia Phillips, Stephen McMillan, Shawn and Jacob Edwards, Kelsie, William and Roger Yawn, Jr.
Mr. Phillips was born December 10, 1935 in Irwin County, son of the late Charles Oliver Phillips and Stella Lee Phillips, He lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Phillips was a farmer, a former employee of Modern Fibers, Georgia Forestry Department and retired a supervisor for Shaw Industries after 28 years. He was a member of the Ocilla Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bertie C. Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie F. Phillips of Irwinville; four children, Charles Phillips of Irwinville, Clint Phillips of Mystic, Shannon Yawn of Irwinville and Lee Phillips of Ocilla; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Bettye Singletary of Irwinville; four brothers, Billy Phillips, Jerry Hancock and Johnny Hancock, all of Irwinville and Jimmy Hancock of Gray.
Paulk Funeral Home was n charge of arrangements.

Ann W. Smith
Mrs. Ann W. Smith, 66, of Ben Hill County died Friday, June 4, 2004 at her residence.
Services were held at Prospect Baptist Church, Ben Hill County Monday, June 7 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Harris Johnson officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born July 27, 1937 in Cook County, daughter of the late Herbert and Bertie Pruitt Weeks. She had lived in Ben Hill County since 1973 from Atlanta. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a former employee of Southern Bell Telephone in Atlanta. She was a 1955 graduate of Coffee County High School, a member of Prospect Baptist Church and a former member of Defore Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta. Mrs. Smith also sang with the Gospel Servants.
Survivors include her husband, Roscoe C. Smith of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, David and Brenda Smith of Douglas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one sister, Bertha Hancock of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Lamar Weeks.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert D. McDaniel
Mr. Robert D. McDaniel, 59, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his home.
Memorial services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Monday, June 7 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Charlie Wilson officiating.
Mr. McDaniel was born July 27, 1944 in Fitzgerald, son of Martha Lee Branch McDaniel and the late Robert F. McDaniel. He had lived in the community most of his life. He was a farmer, carpenter and mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Janace W. McDaniel of Fitzgerald; two daughters, Theo Harrison of Fitzgerald and Marie Woods of Ocilla; mother, Martha Lee Branch McDaniel; four grandchildren; four brothers, David McDaniel, Buddy McDaniel, James McDaniel and Albert McDaniel; three sisters, Suzie Markham, Missy McDaniel and Irene McKown.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Angela Harbin
Ms. Mary Angela Harbin, 65, of Tifton died Monday, June 7, 2004 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors on Wednesday, June 9 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Eddie Allen officiating. Interment will be in Mystic Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.
Ms. Harbin was born September 4, 1938 in Quincy, FL, daughter of the late Charles W. Harbin, Sr. and Tishie Nettles Harbin.
A longtime resident of Tift County, Ms. Harbin was owner of Harbin Bookkeeping and formerly held the office of Secretary for the Georgia Association of Public Accountants. She was a member of 4th Street Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Survivors include one brother, C. W. Harbin, Jr. of Tallahassee, FL and one sister, Faye Summerford of Jacksonville, FL; close friends, Wanda Conger and James Terry, both of Tifton and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles O. Lashley
Mr. Charles O. Lashley, 72, of Irwin County, died Monday, June 7, 2004 at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 9 at 4 p.m. at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery , Ben Hill County.
Mr. Lashley was born April 21, 1932 in Grady County to the late Charlie Benjamin and Chestie Spearman Lashley. He was a former resident of Americus, Coffee County and Fitzgerald. He was a former Dairy Farmer and Motor Grader Operator for the Ben Hill County and Coffee County Road Departments. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Lashley is survived by two step-daughters: Angie Burkett, West Green, and Scarlett Paro, Conway, SC; nieces and nephews: Bonnie Turner, Peggy Giddens, Ruth Swieczkowski, all of Fitzgerald, Windell O’Neal and William O’Neal, both of Ocilla, Elbert O’Neal, Milledgeville, Marsha Parker, Flowery Branch, Sandra Collins, Clayton, NC, Dennis Pitts, Monticello, FL and Frankie Pitts, Wauchula, FL; cousin: Glenn Lashley, Valdosta: ten step-grandchildren, nineteen step-great grandchildren and six step-great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlene Nipper Lashley and one step-son, Dan Mercer.

Weyman Emerson Cook
Mr. Weyman Emerson Cook, 77, of Ocilla died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Cook was born November 15, 1926 in Camilla, son of the late Walter Emory and Emma Williams Cook. He had lived in Ocilla since 1967 having resided in Albany, Tallahassee, FL and Greenville, SC. He was retired owner/operator of Red & White Grocery, a retired consultant for Cross Equipment Company of Albany and a former employee of Kaiser Chemical Company.
Mr. Cook was a U. S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ocilla Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred D. Cook of Ocilla; five children, Annelle Cook Cassels of Havana, FL, Wade Cook and Dale Cook of Tallahassee, FL; Lisa Cook Steedley of Doerun and Weyman Emerson Cook II of Albany; sister, Nell Cook Thornton of Waukesha, WI; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Elaine Wyler of Milwaukee, WI and Yvonne Porterfield of Milpitas, CA.
Services were held at Central United Methodist Church, Fitzgerald on Monday, May 31 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Steve Waldorf and Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Linda Hall; organist, Brian Morris; singing, Massee men, and soloist, Elaine Wyler.
Interment was held in Ocilla Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chad Sumner, Jamie Davis, Andrew Dove, Hewis Cross, Tyrone Paulk, Greg Vickers, Bull Huey and Will Meadow.
Honorary pallbearers were J. W. Christianson, Wayman Mobley, James Echols, Donald Vickers, Emory Walters, Buddy Bennett, K. A. Veal, Murphey Rogers and Thurman Cross.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy McCarty
Mrs. Nancy McCarty, 84, of Irwin County died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Osceola Nursing Home.
Mrs. McCarty was born April 2, 1920 in Coffee County, daughter of the late James and Nora Cothern Graham. She lived in Irwin County most of her life and was a former waitress in Douglas.
Survivors include her husband, Orin McCarty of Fitzgerald; brother-in-law, Will McCarty of Ocilla; several nieces and nephews including Earnestine Kollock of Warner Robins, Helda Vickers of Ambrose, Sarah Owens of Camilla, Lisa Davidson of Bonaire and Sycondia Merritt of Roberta and one sister.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 5 at Irwinville Cemetery, with Rev. Lester Anthony officiating.
Paulk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth A. Wilder
Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Harris Wilder, 58 of Macon died Thursday, May 27, 2004 in a local hospital.
Services were held Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial was held at 4 p.m. in the Ocilla City Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilder, a native of Ocilla was born May 28, 1945, daughter of the late Charles P. and Ethel Watson Harris. She had worked for the Bibb County Board of Education for 29 years and was math teacher at Westside High School and a member of P.A.G.E.
Survivors include her children, Norwood Wilder, Jr. of Acworth and Patricia Johnson of Macon; one brother, Charles Allen Harris of Macon and four grandchildren, Megan Erin Wilder, Brandon Norwood Wilder, Natalie Renee’ Johnson and Noah Windle Johnson.
Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Randy Prescott
Mr. Randy Prescott, 51, of Fitzgerald died Monday, May 24, 2004 at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, FL.
Mr. Prescott was born March 29, 1953 in Ben Hill County, son of the late John Clayton and Myrtle Porter Prescott. He lived in the community all of his life and was a Captain with the Fitzgerald Fire Department, where he worked for the past 30 years. Mr. Prescott was a member of the Georgia Fireman’s Association. He was an avid woodsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and taking his grandson hog hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Davis Prescott of Fitzgerald; one daughter, Wendy Prescott Luke and her two children, Gabe and Gracey Luke, all of Valdosta; four brothers, Bobby Prescott of Hollywood, AL; John Carl Prescott of Watkinsville; Billy H. Prescott and Jerry Prescott, both of Fitzgerald; three sisters, Betty Ann Jones of Mystic, Shirlie Vilt of San Antonio, TX and Sandra M. Garner of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by one brother and his wife, Ronnie and Debra Prescott.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Thursday, May 27 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Tommy Baker and Rev. Bobby Rodgers officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Susan Spivey and soloist, Jennifer West.
Interment was held in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Skeeter Ewing, Philip Jay, Dr. Bill Hammond, Mike Biggers, Robert Sherrell, Gee Merritt.
Honorary pallbearers were active and retired firemen of Fitzgerald Fire Department and throughout the state of Georgia, Mayor Gerald H. Thompson and Fitzgerald City Council and employees of the City of Fitzgerald.
Firemen’s Honor Guard from Forsyth County, Brunswick and Jesup folded and presented the American flag and after the sounding of the last alarm, services were concluded by Phil McDevitt playing “Taps” on the bagpipes.

Shirley Ring Griner
Shirley Ring Griner, 72, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Mrs. Griner was born December 15, 1931 in Fitzgerald, daughter of the late Pearlie and Sarah Crawley Ring. She lived in the community most of her life and was raised by her grandparents, J. H. and Myrtle Crawley of Irwinville. Mrs. Griner was a homemaker, a registered nurse in Aransas Pass, TX and a former employee of Irwin County Hospital. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Osceola Chapter #431 of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Griner attended Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include three daughters and one son, Debbie Steverson, Marvene Sherrod, Tina Futch and Rodney Griner, all of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford Ring of Fargo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin P. Griner; one grandson, Rusty Steverson and one brother, Sonny Ring.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bob Chaudoin officiating. Interment was held in Ocilla Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Josh Harrell, Steven Costa, Michael Thompson, Mat Costa, Josh Sumner and Ronald Richey.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Maude Killiebrew
Mrs. Annie Maude Killiebrew died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Dorminy Medical Center. She was 49.
Mrs. Killiebrew was born December 22, 1955 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Mrs. Myrtice Buchannan and the late James Trailor. She attended New Beulah Baptist Church of Wray.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Raymond Killiebrew of Wray; three daughters, Kimberly Killiebrew of Douglas, LaTonya (Donivan) Foster of Ocilla and La Kenya Killiebrew of Wray; one grandchild, Tierra Foster of Ocilla; one brother, Larry (Geraldine) Buchannan of Douglas; one sister, Essie Maude Buchannan of West Palm Beach, FL; a devoted friend and neighbor, Clara Mae Smith of Wray; a devoted aunt, Dorothy Armour of Wray and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann Buchannan and one niece, Michelle Buchannan.
Services were held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Wray at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 with Rev. L. H. Mobley officiating.
Interment followed at the Macedonia Cemetery, Wray. Active Pallbearers were Terry Lewis, Charles Goolsby, Tim Goolsby, J.R Buchannan,Craig Mobley and Anthony Lee. Honorary Pallbearers were William Paulk,George Paulk,Willie Simpson, Daniel Paulk and Samuel Sibert.
McIver Funeral Home of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.

Claire E. Arnault
Ms. Claire E. Arnault, 77, of Nashville died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Monday, May 24 at 4 p.m. at Irwinville Cemetery.
Ms. Arnault was born October 8, 1926 in Boston, MA. She was a retired registered nurse, having worked with pediatrics and as a charge nurse in Naples, FL. She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include friends, L. D. and Ann Duren of Nashville and Dorothy Randall of Lakeland; godchild, Anita Cole of New York, NY.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Earnie J. Ring
Earnie J. Ring, 88, of Fitzgerald died Monday, May 17, 2004 at Irwin County Hospital.
Graveside services were held at the Irwinville Cemetery on Thursday, May 20 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Bobby Stone officiating.
Mr. Ring was born January 28, 1916 in Ben Hill County, son of the late Arthur Young and Verdie Sweat Ring. He lived most of his life in Fitzgerald and was a former resident of Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Ring was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills, Dixie Peanut Company, National Park Service and Farm Best Dairies in Jacksonville, FL. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp.
Survivors include one brother, Young, “Jr.” Ring of Macon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lanora Erwin Ring.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sallie N. Fowler
Mrs. Sallie N. Fowler, a resident of Osceola Nursing Home, died Monday, May 10, 2004. She was 81.
Mrs. Fowler was born January 18, 1923 in Willacoochee, daughter of the late Bundy and Alice Crumedy.
She joined Pine Bloom Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Fowler; her sister, Lola Mae Saulsby; three brothers, Moses, Cyrus and Benjamin.
Survivors include a sister, Mattie B. Hyman of Mystic; one son, Willie Green (Doretha) of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Danny Taylor, Kenny Green, Valarie Morrison (David), Alisha Benjamin (Harold), Terrell Green, Shalom Beas and Tranette Coney, all of Miami, FL; a host of great-grandchildren, all of Miami, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Pine Bloom Baptist Church in Mystic on Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Daughtry B. Melton III, Rev. John Swain and Rev. Tommy Washington officiating.
Music was provided by the choir and soloists, Charlene Middlebrooks and Deacon Junior Slacks.
Pallbearers were friends of the family.
Interment was held at Pine Bloom Church Cemetery.
