JAMES ELDRIDGE O'NEAL

Mr. James Eldridge O’Neal, age 85 of Blakely died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. O’Neal was born September 6, 1919 in Miller County. He was a farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 16, at 3:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Scott Cook officiating. Interment followed in Houston Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dwayne Gay, J.D. Gordon, Randy Gay, Steven O’Neal, Steve Yelvington, and Shane Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille O’Neal, Blakely; one son, James and daughter-in-law, Carol Ann O’Neal, Bainbridge; one daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Ralph Sheffield, Blakely; three grandsons and 14 great-grandchildren.
Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

ROBERT T. "BOBBY" WILLIS

Mr. Robert T. “Bobby” Willis, age 78 of Bainbridge died Friday, July 15, 2005 at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.
Mr. Willis was born February 16, 1927 in Mulberry, FL. He graduated from Bainbridge High School, attended Emory University, and served in the U.S. Army Cavalry during World War II. He joined the family business, Willis Lumber Company, and later became the sole owner and president. He was a director and a principal stockholder of the Citizens Bank and Trust Company (now Regions Bank) for 30 years. He served as president of the Bainbridge Rotary Club, director of Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, director of the Industrial Development Authority, board member of Decatur County Board of Health, member of American Legion, Trustee, of First Baptist Church. He also served three terms on the Decatur County Board of Commissioners and served a term in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge with Dr. Leroy Spinks officiating. Interment followed in Oak City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alan Thomas, Ed Mitchell, Harold Lambert, John Grimsley Jr., Raymond Miles, Lofton Willis, and Sam Griffin. Honorary pallbearers were Lambert-Penny Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Griggs Willis, Bainbridge; a son, Bob Willis, Gainesville; two daughters, Maxine W. Pinson, Savannah, Frances W. Davis, Gainesville; sister, Sara W. Parker, Alpharetta; and five grandchildren.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

WALTER W. MOCK

Mr. Walter W. Mock, age 77, of Thomasville died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.
Mr. Mock was born August 8, 1927 in Decatur County. He was a retired carpenter and a baptist.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Nichols officiating. Interment followed at White’s Bridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Mock, Wayne Mock, Mike Mock, David Mock, Robbie Cloud, John Peterman, Brad Mock, Wayne Mock Jr. and Chris Sheffield.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Addison Mock, Thomasville; four sons, James Mock, Mike Mock, David Mock, all of Thomasville; Wayne Mock, Bonifay, FL; four daughters, Elaine M. Sheffield, Lakeland, FL, Shirley Thomas, Teresa Barber, Thomasville. Deborah Mock, Blakely; three sisters, Jimmie Draper, Conyers, Agnes Kraft, Ashland, AL, Pauline Gordon, Bainbridge; 29 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lawanna Mock.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

VERA HICKS

Vera Hicks, age 84, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Monday, July 18, 2005 at Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely, GA.
Funeral services was held Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Roberts and Rev. Hubert Smith officiating. Interment followed at Oakview Church of God Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Seminole County, GA on July 18, 1921 to the late M. T. and Annie Whittaker House. She was married to Olen Hicks, who preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Hicks worked as a nurse for a many years. She was a member of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church; however, she was a charter member of Oakview Church of God and was the last charter member still living.
Mrs. Hicks leaves to cherish her memory, two sons; Lamar Hicks and his wife Margaret and Curtis Hicks and his wife Janet all of Donalsonville, GA. Seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

MARIE PHILLIPS

Marie Phillips, age 73, of Iron City passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Long Term Care Hospital of Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.
Funeral services was held Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Boomer and Rev. Jimmy Hornsby officiating. Interment followed at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Miller County on September 22, 1931 to the late Robert Lee and Laura Mae Norris Daniels. She had lived in this area all her life, was a member of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker. A sweet lady and loved by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Robert Dallion Phillips; two sons Robert W. Sherrer of Bainbridge; Raymond Sherrer of Donalsonville; two daughters Judy Phillips of Donalsonville; Theresa Buckhalter and her husband Weyman of Donalsonville; three sisters Ollie Mae Dukes of Bainbridge; Hazel McLendon of Donalsonville and Mildred Cason of New Port Ritchie, FL. Four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers will be Larry Bird, Jeff Sherrer, Heith Sherrer, Andy Spooner, Chris Buckhalter and Quint McCoy. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

EDDIE MITCHELL BELL

Mr. Eddie Mitchell Bell, age 57, of Donalsonville passed away Wednesday evening, July 20, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral services for Mr. Bell were held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Salem Seminole Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Baggett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bell was born in Waycross on November 28, 1947, to Mitchell and Clarice Morgan Bell. He served his country in the U.S. marines and worked with Three Notch EMC as a line foreman. He had worked with Three Notch for 13 years. Mr. Bell was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hoboken. He was also a member of H.O.G. (Harley Owner’s Group).
Mr. Bell leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Velender Appling Bell of Donalsonville; his parents, Mitchell and Clarice Bell of Hoboken; one son, Chuck Bell and his wife Shannon of Waycross; three daughter, Jessica Harwell and her husband Daniel of Winder; Jennifer Bennett of Waycross; and Candice “Sunny” Hall and her husband Mitch of Blackshear; three step-sons, Ryan Lewis of Covington; Ellis Appling of Ashford, AL and Jimmy Appling and his wife Tanya of Ashford, AL; two brother, Dewayne Bell and his wife Betty of Fernandina Beach, FL and Steve Bell and his wife Leda of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Donna Grupposo of Paris, Kentucky; and 7 grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Active pallbearers were Steve Whittaker, Bubba Owens, Steve Horne, Zollie Buggs, Ellis Appling, and Jimmy Appling. The employees of Three Notch EMC also served as honorary pallbearers. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

GEORGE LENTON GLOVER

George Lenton Glover, 80, of Bainbridge, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Memorial Hospital.

Grave side services were held Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in Roselawn memory Gardens with Bro. Bobby Glover officiating.

Mr. Glover was born in Decatur County, where he lived all of his life, except service time. He was a member of West Bainbridge Baptist, a member of Local Union, Senior Golf Association, and VFW Post 4904. He worked for Englehard as carpenter for 38 years. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, all around sportsman, pilot, and prankster.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith (Frank) Jordan of Bainbridge; two sisters, Janelle Higginbottom of Reynoldsville and Olga Woodward of Bainbridge; one brother, Marlon Glover of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

His wife, Elizabeth Ann Barfield Glover, and parents, George Lofton and Mollie Brock Glover, all preceded him in death.

Cox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

DELORA ADAMS JESTER

Delora Adams Jester, 91, of Augusta, died Friday, July 22, 2005, in Augusta.

Grave side services were held Tuesday, July 26, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in Oak City Cemetery with the Rev. Conrad Salter officiating.

Mrs. Jester was born June 25, 1914 to the late Hansel and Minnie Chason Adams in Mitchell County. She lived in Bainbridge before moving to Augusta 11 years later. She was a beautician; she owned Beauty Shop on West Street for several years in the 50s and 60s. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bainbridge.

Survivors include one daughter, Carole Jester Spinks (Craig); two sisters, Dera Mae Bostick of Vada and Doris Rentz of Moultrie; one brother, Devon Adams of Moultrie; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Emory Carlton Jester.

Cox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

RUTH CORNELIA BRONSON

Ms. Ruth Cornelia Bronson, 97, of Colquitt passed away Saturday, July 23, 2005 at Miller Nursing Home. The graveside service was held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Mothers Home Cemetery.
Ms. Bronson was born June 23, 1908 in Miller County. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one brother, Marvin Vann of Orlando Fl., and a large number of nieces & nephews.
Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

EARL ALDAY

Mr. Earl Alday, 77, of Sylvester, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Mother’s Home Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Cooper officiating. Interment followed in the Baptist Cemetery in Miller County.

Mr. Alday was born in Seminole County on January 27, 1928 to Thomas Matthew Alday and Mary McDaniel Alday. He lived in Worth County for the last 10 years before moving to Dougherty County. He worked as an airplane mechanic with Butler Aviation in Savannah. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Russ Smedley, Kristin Alday, David Earl Simpson, Matthew Prosser, Ashley Alday, and Joshua Carr.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Smith Alday of Sylvester; one son, Dwayne and Linda Alday of Starke, FL; six daughters, Donna and Steve Wynne of Grand Haven, MI, Alisa and Jimmy Prosser of Shingler; Karen and David Simpson of Sylvester, Stacey and Steve Carr of Elizabeth City, SC, Pam and Kevin Phelps of Hayes, VA, Patricia and Larry Christmas of Albany; two sisters, Mary Lee Chandler of Donalsonville and Ruby Fitzgerald of Moultrie; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Earl Alday in 1958.

Banks Funeral Home of Sylvester, Georgia was in charge of the arrangements.

SHIELA ANN HANKS

Sheila Ann Hanks, 37, of Jakin, died Monday, August 1, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Evans-Skipper Funeral Home of Donalsonville.
Ms. Hanks was born in Seminole County on March 30, 1968, to Arthur Lee Hanks and the late Shirley Ann Alday Hanks. She worked as a store clerk and attended Springfield Baptist Church in Jakin.
Survivors include her father, Arthur Lee Hanks; one daughter, Nitasha Michelle Buckhalter; and one brother, Scotty Lee Hanks, all of Jakin; numerous cousins also survive. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

ARDEN SCHERER RICE

Arden Scherer Rice, 77, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Fl. Arden’s funeral service was held at 3:00pm, Sunday, August 7th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Fl. Officiating was Reverend Robert and Reverend Janice Kinley. The graveside service was held on Monday, August 8th at 10:00am at Jacksonville Memory Gardens located in Orange Park, Fl.
She was born in Alpena, Michigan. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Jacksonville for more than 40 years. Arden was on the visitation team, assisted with the food pantry, was a member of the choir, and a faithful member of Martha’s Circle and the Quilter’s at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Venetia Manor Garden Club of Jacksonville.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, CDR James P. Scherer and second husband, CDR Eugene J. Rice. She leaves to cherish in her loving memory, Frank Bull and his family; 2 sons, Steve Scherer of Mommouth, Oregon and Tom Scherer of Jacksonville; 2 daughters, Sue Dealy (CAPT David) of Franklin, TN. and Linda Lott of Bainbridge; brother Glen Heck of Jacksonville; 6 grandchildren.
Arden’s funeral service was held at 3:00pm, Sunday, August 7th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Fl. Officiating was Reverend Robert and Reverend Janice Kinley. The graveside service was held on Monday, August 8th at 10:00am at Jacksonville Memory Gardens located in Orange Park, Fl.

Hardage-Giddens Blanding Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

WENDELL HARRIS THOMPSON

Wendell Harris Thompson, 50, of Colquitt, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Miller County Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 12, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Earl Lamey officiating. Interment followed in Eternal Rest Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Michael Givens, Dwayne Givens, James, Givens, David Givens, Sterling Stinson, and Alex Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was born March 11, 1955 in Miller County. He worked in Irrigation maintenance and was a member of Kimbrel Chapel Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thompson of Colquitt; one son, Travis Thompson and daughter-in-law Ann of Brinson; one step-son, F.D. “Frank” Markwith and step-daughter-in-law Pam of Gainesville; one nephew, Michael Givens of Brinson; six grandchildren, Heather Cox, Andrea Landers, Jessica Landers, Brian Landers, William J. Markwith, David Edwin Markwith; two great-grandchildren, Jason Cox and Judy Cox; three brothers, C.D. Thompson of Colquitt, Frank Thompson Jr. of Americus; and Bradley Thompson of Brunswick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
