Barbara Ann Cates Sikes
Barbara Ann Cates Sikes, 72, died Wednesday, June, 22, 2005 at Candler County Hospital. The Lawrenceville native lived several years in Cumming. After marrying Bill in 1958, his job carried them to Mississippi, Tennessee, Brunswick, and then they returned to his family farm in Cobbtown. She was a bookkeeper with the Tattnall County Board of Education for 25 years and a member of Connors Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary for many years and was head of the cemetery committee. She was a member of the Tattnall Travelers, loving to travel after her retirement, an avid gardener who loved her yards, and loved to collect antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Sikes.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stacy and Shannon Sikes of Cobbtown; two grandchildren, Wyatt and Megan Sikes.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 24, 2005 at Connors Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiated.
Pallbearers were Kevin Hendrix, Hughes Williamson, Ken Tatum, Kevin Tatum, Reese McCorkle, and Johnny Sikes
Honorary Pallbearers were R.E. Hendrix, Hugh Williamson, Ben Sikes, Don Hensley, Kennon Tatum, Wayne Kennedy, and Lemmon McCorkle.
Morgan Family Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

James Clifford "J.C." Woodcock
James Clifford “J.C.” Woodcock, age 82, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Bulloch Co. native lived most of his life in Metter before moving back to Bulloch Co. in 1982. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and attended Open Door Worship Center. He worked for the City of Metter as Supervisor of the Streets & Lanes Department for 53 years and was a past member of the Metter Fire Department. He was instrumental in putting up the city Christmas tree and decorations and playing Santa Claus for many years. He had a love for the outdoors, his garden, flowers, and yard work.
Survivors are his wife, Runette R. Woodcock of Statesboro; sons and daughters-in-law, James T. “Woody” and Joyce Woodcock of Metter, Tony and Ginger Woodcock of Statesboro, and Terry and Cindy Woodcock, of Cookeville, TN; daughters and son-in-law, Gail and Clyde Thompson of Bulloch Co., and Dianne Moore of Baxter, TN; sisters, Ruby Hood of Millen, Lorine Ennis of Severville, TN, and Neatha Knight of Martinez; Sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great- great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Open Door Worship Center with burial in the Rosemary Cemetery. Pastor Ray Woodcock officiated.
Pallbearers were Matt Thompson, Galen Thompson, Michael Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Tommy Marsh, and James Brantley.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Open Door Worship Center, P.O. Box 833, Metter, Ga 30439.

Ira Monroe
Ira Monroe, 92, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at his home surrounded by family under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice, after a long battle with cancer. He owned and operated Monroe’s Service Station for 40 years, served as a Cobbtown City Councilman, Chief of the Cobbtown Fire Department, and Mayor Pro-Term for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII, Pacific Theatre. He loved to garden and tinker with machinery. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Leigh Monroe.
Survivors are a wife of 56 years, Evelyn Sisson Monroe of Cobbtown; daughters and son-in-law, Mikki and Bruce Ward of Palm Desert, CA and Sally Willis of Cayce, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Sylvia Monroe of Cobbtown and Mark and Angie Monroe of Reidsville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday (today) at Morgan Family Funeral Home, at 10 a.m. with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery in Cobbtown. Ministers will be Burnon Jarriel and Jerald Dorr.
Pallbearers will be George Green, Billy Phillips, Johnny McCullough, Butch Braner, Terry Williams, and Bernard McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Pearls of Life, 13 S. Newton St., Claxton, GA 30417.

Mattie Lee Golden Allen
Mattie Lee Golden Allen, 77, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Westwood Nursing Center in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident was a member of the Army Nurse Corps in Savannah and attended nursing schools at Candler Hospital. She worked many years as an LPN in the nursery at Meadows Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Allen and a daughter, Anne Holloway Lynn.
She is survived by a son, Bishop John Holloway of Thomaston; daughter, Mary Holloway Bulpitt of Atlanta; a sister, Claudine Dulberger of Avon, CT; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Fox, Tiffany Solano, Geoffrey and Rebecca Bulpitt, Jared, Jacob, Josiah and Hannah Holloway; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 2 p.m. at Collins First Baptist Church with Bishop John Holloway and Elder Tom Deal officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joey Singleton and James Lynn. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Collins First Baptist Church.
Remembrances can be made to Collins First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 218, Collins, GA 30421 or the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Home, Inc., P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281.

Michelle Strenth Mull
Michelle Strenth Mull, 33, of Cocoa, FL died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Parrish Medical Center. A native of Lake Wales, FL she had lived in Avon Park, Ft. Myers, California, Twin City and went to Brevard County in 1990. She finished her high school education in Brevard County. She had been a teachers’ aide. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by a son, Hunter Mull of Cocoa, FL; parents, James Strenth, Big Pine Key, FL, and Brenda and Ricky Clifton of Twin City; five sisters, Tessie Bryant of Swainsboro, Melissa Bradford of Avon Park, FL, Lisa Hughes of Twin City, Stacy Clifton of Twin City, and Cherish Tarbox of Alabama; and two brothers, James Strenth Jr. of Orlando, FL and Anthony Howard of Cocoa, FL.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment followed in Brevard Memorial Park.
Fountain Funeral Home of Avon Park, FL was in charge of arrangements.

Eunice Rudd Nail
Eunice Rudd Nail, 91, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Metter Nursing Home.
She was born in Candler County and was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she was a long-time Sunday School teacher and former president of WMU. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Nail and daughter Doris Donaldson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ben L. and Kay Nail of Collins; two sisters, Navis Oliver of Collins and Lois Moody of Savannah; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wade Aldrich, Ronny Williams, Danny Cox, Derrick Oliver, Don Powell and Tommy Lively.

Roy Dale Miles
Roy Dale Miles, 54, of Cobbtown died Saturday afternoon, June 18, 2005, after a very brief illness.
Mr. Miles was a chief warrant officer in the Army, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam flying Birddogs. He received the Purple Heart and other medals for his conduct during the war. He also enjoyed flying, motorcycles and racing mini stock cars on the dirt tracts of OSP and Swains-boro Raceway.
Mr. Miles was a truck driver for Crider Poultry in Stillmore. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Grady Miles Sr., and his son, William Roy ‘Billy‘ Miles.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, T.J. and Rachel Miles of Cobbtown; three daughters, Amanda Miles of Cobbtown, Nicki Miles and Jessica Terrel, both of Pembroke; his mother, Ida Lee Miles of Pembroke; his grandmother, Hazel Purdom Miles of Pembroke; a brother, Thomas ‘Thom’ Grady Miles Jr.; a sister, Patricia Miles Moore of Pembroke; uncles E. Billy Miles of Pembroke and Frank P. Miles of Savannah; aunts Ella M. Lewis and Lila M. Blocker, both of Richmond Hill, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Pembroke. Interment with military honors will follow at Northside Cemetery.
Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claudine H. Durham
Claudine H. Durham, 62, of Edgefield, S.C. died on Sunday, May 26, 2005. Born in Candler County she lived most of her life in Edgefield. She was employed for 15 years at Edgefield Medical Associates and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Trenton, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Durham, her father Claude Hildebrandt of Metter and a son, Raymond Hildebrandt of Edgefield.
She is survived by her mother, Mozell Forehand of Metter; sons, Jimmy Durham and Ray Durham, both of Edgefield; a sister, Edna Dowd of Metter; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 28, at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home in Edgefield with burial in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Trenton, S.C.

Earnest Marsh
Earnest Marsh, 91, of Swains-boro died Friday, June 10, 2005, at Southland Care Center in Dublin after an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, he worked for Emanuel County Road Maintenance and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Jewell Marsh.
He is survived by five daughters, Hilda Rich and Ernestine Rich, both of Swainsboro, Ruby Rich of McIntyre, Mary Bohan-non of Dublin and Vicki Hall of Durham, N.C.; a brother, Bernice Marsh of Macon; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 12, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with the Rev. Emory Freeman officiating.
Interment followed in Friendship Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Twin City.
Pallbearers were Chris Clifton, Jody Clifton, Gary Williams, Robby Dekle, Ken Elliott and Jerry Matthew Rich Jr.

Vera Mae Lively Kicklighter
Vera Mae Lively Kicklighter, age 73, died Monday morning, June 27, 2005 at Metter Nursing Home.
The Tattnall Co. native lived several years in Savannah before moving back to Cobbtown in November 2004. She was a member of Blitchton Baptist Church and worked as a private sitter. She loved to collect dolls and work as a volunteer at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in States-boro.
She was the oldest sister of 9 children and enjoyed looking after her brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by one brother, Ray Lively.
She is survived by her husband, John Richard Kicklighter of Cobbtown; a god-daughter, Susan Sheppard of Guyton; brothers Ralph Lively of Griffin, R.L. Lively and Harvey Lively, both of Collins; and sisters, Neta Kicklighter of Cobbtown and Faye Gilmore of Metter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, at Morgan Family Funeral Home with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery in Cobbtown.
Pallbearers will be Robert Lively, Lance Lively, Jimmy Lively, Dustin Lively, Kenneth Beasley and Kevin Beasley.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening (tonight) from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Remembrances can be made to the Lou Gehrig’s Disease Foundation, Atlanta, Ga.

Lucy Finch Elllis
Lucy Finch Ellis, 98, of Metter died on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Candler County Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Ellis and a son, James Elbert Sills.
She is survived by grandchildren, Connie McKenna of Hiram, Donnie Sills of Metter, Jimmy Sills of Savannah, Raymond Wren of Savannah, Jeannie Hutchinson of Metter, Marie Barnard of Ellabell, and Cal Johnson of Metter; a daughter-in-law, Agnes Sills of Savannah;a special friend, Patsy Mikell; and several nieces and nephews.
Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.
Funeral services were held on Monday in the Chapel of Wood Funeral Home. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church, Rt. 1 Box 126, Portal, GA 30450.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.
