Bernice Coston Rei
Bernice Coston Rei, 90, of Columbia, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 17, 2005 at the Ellicott City Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ellicott City, MD. Mrs. Rei was born February 16, 1915 in Candler County. She graduated Valedictorian of her senior class at Pulaski High School. She became an RN after graduating from Grady Nursing School in Atlanta. She worked as a nurse at hospitals in Metter, Savannah, Lexington, KY and Baltimore, MD. She
retired from nursing in 1973 shortly after the death of her husband. She was a long time member of Arlington Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Eldon Rei;
her parents, Thomas E. Watson Coston and Alice E. Leverett Coston Brantley; step-father, Troy E. Brantley; a sister, Eunice Coston Rushing and a brother, Harold N. Brantley.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law; Joseph Thomas and Dianna Rei of Jacksonville, FL and James William and Mary Rei of Columbia, MD; one sister, Mary Coston Bland of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Bobby Brantley of Savannah; five grandchildren, Lisa Lockwood, Geoffrey Rei, Rebecca Herren, Jodi Rei and Brian Rei; three great-grandchildren, Victoria Ruth Lockwood, Elizabeth Grace
Lockwood and Dylan Matthew Herren.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooks Chapel of Kennedy Funeral Homes of Metter with Rev. Fred Pifer officiating.
Kennedy Funeral Homes Hooks Chapel of Metter is in charge of arrangements.

Dilbon Lamb Todd
Dilbon Lamb Todd, 81, of Kershaw, S.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005.
Born in Glennville, he was the son of the late Dewey and Cordie Wilkins Todd Edenfield. He was married to Floree Gardner Todd. He was an insurance salesman with Nationwide Insurance Co., a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy and Marine veteran.
He is survived by his wife of Kershaw; two daughters, Wanda Coates and her husband, Joel, Teressa Vincent and her husband Douglas, all of Kershaw; a son, Dewey L. Todd and his wife, Frohn of Kershaw; six grandchildren, Wendy Bass, Holly Black, Lori Sullivan, Tonya Vincent, Kimberly Griffis and Elizabeth Todd; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Col., U.S.A.F., Ret. Billy Edenfield of Warner Robins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry L. Todd, and a sister, Dewey Rebecca Todd Bradley.
Services were held at Buffalo Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Curtis Cameron and Donald Coppedge, with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, 6390 Lockhart Road, Kershaw SC 29067.

Margaret Flewallen
Margaret Flewallen, 86, of Metter died on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at Metter Nursing Home. A homemaker, she was a member of Metter Free Will Baptist Church. She and her husband worked for Campus Crusade for Christ in Arrowhead Springs, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Flewallen, and a son, Larry Flewallen.
She is survived by her daughters, Priscilla Scott of Metter, Martha Burford of Tacoma, WA, Doris Gunn of Metter, and Marilyn Donaldson of Metter; a special daughter-in-law, Joy Hutsell of Tennessee; half-sisters, Peggy Anderson of Atlanta and Silvia Oberhauser of Indiana; grandchildren, Richard and Ellen Mixon, Wanda Mixon of Birmingham, AL, Rachel Scott of Metter, Kathleen Wall and Lynn Wall of Warner Robbins and Earl Gunn of CT; great-grandchildren, Amy and Roger Bentley, Isaac and Rebecca Mixon of Birmingham, AL; great-great-grandchildren, Tristan and McKenna Bentley; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Richard Mixon and Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Watson, Doug Williams, Wallace Coursey, Ronnie Sikes and Vince Dennison.
?In lieu of flowers, the family request remembrances be made to Guido Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 508, Metter, GA 30439.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

David Authur Davis
David Arthur Davis, 41, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at his brother’s residence in Metter after an extended illness.
He was a native of and resided most of his life in Waycross. He was employed by Weeks Construction and was a member of Second Baptist Church. He also served in the United States Navy.
He is the son of the late Charles E. Davis Sr. and Theo Frisbie Wick.
He is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Davis Jr. and wife Joan of Metter, and James Davis of Thompson; a sister, Libby Davis Beasley of Waycross; two nieces, Cassie Davis and Annie Davis; and two special friends, Virginia Nix and Anne Fesperman of Waycross.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Music Funeral Home Chapel in Waycross. Burial followed in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro or the Southeastern Cancer Society in Waycross.

Elry Lot Fortner
Elry Lot Fortner, 81, of Metter died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
He was a self-employed retired truck driver and an Army veteran of World War II. He attended school in Johnson County and lived most of his life in Savannah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Perry Fortner, and a son, John Elry Fortner.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Fortner of Metter; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Brenda Fortner of Bloomingdale, Walter ‘Butch’ and Rebecca A. Fortner of Pembroke, Grady and Susanne Barefield of Kennesaw, Gerald and Beth Barefield of Pembroke, Karen Sue Fortner of Pooler and Gregory Barfield Hobs of Hulls Cove, Me.; daughters and son-in-law, Georgia and Andy Teefy of Dallas and Gwen McBride of Anderson, S.C.; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Elder Randy Waters officiating. Burial was in Lower Black Creek Cemetery in Ellabell. Nephews served as pallbearers.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

Freda Willa Helmey Bishop
Freda Willa Helmey Bishop, 86, of Pooler died Sept. 18, 2003, at Moss Oaks Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Chatham County to George Percy Helmey and Sarah Frances Cannon Helmey.
She married Percy J. Bishop and was a homemaker all of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ted Helmey, Eugene Helmey and Willie Helmey, and two sisters, Ocea Kramer and Kathlene Long.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband, Percy J. Bishop of Pooler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Herman L. Patterson of Metter and Audrey and C. Johnny Sapp of Albany; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Hillcrest Abbey West with Pastor Lloyd Wilson officiating.
Remembrances can be made to South East Cancer Research Fund, 681 5th Avenue, New York, New York, 10022 or Hospice of Savannah, PO Box 13190, Savannah GA 31416.
Massey-Framke Funeral Care of Garden City was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Green Goodman
Harold Green Goodman, 86, died Wednesday evening, September 24, 2003, at Metter Nursing Home. The native of Candler County had lived several years in Galveston, TX before moving back to the Metter area in 1978. He was a Seaman having worked with National Maritime Union, and was also a watchmaker, with Gruens Jewelers of Charleston, S.C. He was a veteran of the United States Naval Reserve, and was a member of Mt. Shady Baptist Church. He was predeceased by one son, Charles L. Goodman.
He is survived by one son, Harold G. Goodman Jr. of Chesapeake, VA; one daughter, Patricia G. Gehlken of Charleston, S.C.; one grandson, Dan L. Gehlken II of Charleston, S.C.; two granddaughters, Sundee G. Stephenson and Mary April Goodman, both of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Robert Stephenson III and Blake Stephenson; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steve Russell, C.L. Goodman, Ray Goodman, Clevie Goodman, Jessie Ray Goodman, and John L. Goodman.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, at 2 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Wilmer Hall officiating, assisted by Rev. Wayne Paige. Burial was in Mt. Shady Cemetery.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

E. M. Mel Bunn Jr.
E. M. Mel Bunn Jr., Lt. Col., U.S.A.F., retired, 69, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at home after an extended illness. He was born in Wesley, Georgia, on Dec. 27, 1933, to the late E. M. Sr. and Leola H. Bunn.
He attended Metter schools and was a graduate of Swainsboro High School and of William Carey College. He entered the Air Force through the Aviation Cadet program. He was a command pilot and enjoyed 27 years of flying fighter aircraft. After retirement from the Air Force, he was a realtor in the local area for several years.
Mr. Bunn was described as a true gentleman, whose optimism and friendliness always lifted the spirits of those in his presence. He will be especially remembered for his delightful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June Bunn; a son, Gregory Bunn; his sister, Helen Jones and her husband Cecil Jones of Swainsboro; his brother, Harry Bunn and wife Brenda Bunn of Twin City; three sisters-in-law, Ouida Holloway and Tiny Boyett of Metter and Edna Clair and husband Joe Clair of Shalimar, Fl.; and several nieces and nephews.
Bunn was especially grateful to his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edna and Joe Clair, and his niece/daughter, Rene Phelps, for their nursing skills, research, encouragement and support, which helped him through his illness.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Rd., N.E., Fort Walton Beach, Fl., with the Rev. John H. Bonner officiating. The family held a private burial with full military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 101 Hart Street, Niceville, FL 32579.

Ruben Sanchez-Castro
Ruben Sanchez-Castro, 32, of Portal died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, in a car accident.
The Mexico native had lived in Portal for the past three years. He worked at Ogeechee Turf and was of the Catholic faith, attending Holy Family Catholic Church in Metter.
He is survived by his wife, Estela Alonso-Garcia of Portal; sons, Roberto Sanchez-Alonzo and Rubeu Sanchez-Alonzo, both of Mexico; daughters, Rosa Sanchez-Alonso and Yuritzi Sanchez-Alonzo, both of Mexico; his parents, Roberto Sanchez-Hernandez and Bertha Castro-Laurido of Mexico; a brother, Hugo Sanchez-Castro; sisters, Amanda Sanchez-Castro, Valentina Sanchez-Castro and Bertha Yuritzi Sanchez-Castro. Funeral mass was held at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes on Monday evening at 8 p.m. Funeral and burial services will be held in Mexico.

Mary Jane Jarriel Beasley
Mary Jane Jarriel Beasley, 47, of Houston, Tx., formerly of Metter, died on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in Houston. She was a health care provider and a member of Metter Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Tommy Jarriel.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Dawn Beasley of Augusta and Ken and Charlene Beasley of Statesboro; daughters and son-in-law, Hope and David St. John of Jacksonville, Fl., and Dianna Beasley of Buie-Creek, N.C.; her mother, Joyce Tucker Jarriel Bird of Metter; her grandmother, Mary Tucker of Metter; sisters, Tommy Jean Martin of Chino, Ca., Linda Keleka of Beaumont, Tx., and Karen Boggan of Douglas; brothers, Ben Jarriel of Knoxville, Tn., and Jeff Jarriel of Lenoir City, Tn.; and grandchildren, Doneshia Kimberly Roberson, Lindsay Taylor Beasley, Andrew Dominic Beasley, Kate Delayna Beasley, and Darrell Charles St. John.
Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Metter Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery in Evans County.

Carrie Lois Shockey Bryant
Carrie Lois Shockey Bryant, 71, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Candler General Hospital in Savannah.
She moved to Metter in 1995 from Chicago and was retired from Arkansas Best Freight Systems as a customer representative. She loved the outdoors and gardening. She was predeceased by a son, Alan Bryant, her parents, Hager and Dora Shockey, and brothers Arthur Shockey and Eugene Shockey.
She is survived by her husband, Ray E. Bryant of Cobbtown; brothers, James Shockey of Oweningsville, Ky., and Mitchell Shockey of Mt. Orab, Ohio; sisters, Willa Mae Haynes of Chicago, Il., Tressa Thorsen of Worth, Il., and Mary Poff of Crestwood, Il.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in Lake Cemetery.
