Judson Sims Sr.

Judson “Sampson” Sims Sr. of Waynesboro died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. His funeral was 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. David Kemp Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Sims, a native of Burke County, was a member of Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Laura Sims; three sons, John Sims of Ft. Lauderdale. Fla. and James Sims and Judson Sims Jr., both of Waynesboro; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Julia and Sam Harden, Linda Sims and Reba S. and Eddie Johnson, all of Ft. Lauderdale and JoAnn Sims and Mildred Sims, both of Waynesboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Liz Sims of Ft. Lauderdale and Robert and Ann Sims of New York; two sisters, Eula Stallings of Augusta and Mildred Sims of Ft. Lauderdale; and 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John T. Sims, James Sims, Judson Sims Jr., Walter Scott, Rodney Sims, Walter Sims and Vincent Sims. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Lamar Heath

Lamar Heath, 82, of Girard died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at Burke County Hospital.
His funeral was 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Girard, with the Rev. Joshua Carr officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Heath was a lifelong member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed with Perfection Industries and Keller Chair Company. Survivors include a son, Larry Heath of Evans; a daughter-in-law, Anita B. Heath; and a granddaughter, Jessi Heath of Evans. Pallbearers were Junior Johnson, Ben Buxton, Otis F. Williamson, Henry Glisson, Charles Hall, William Jackson, Jerry Johnson and Junior Harden.

John Sharp

John D. Sharp, 75, of Newnan died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at his residence after a lengthy illness. His funeral was 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at First United Methodist Church in Newnan, with the Revs. Gary Parrish and Larry Patton officiating.
Graveside services were 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynes-boro, with Dr. G. Al Wright officiating. Mr. Sharp, a native of Hart-selle, Ala., attended the Morgan County public schools. His high school education was interrupted when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. When the war ended, he returned to Morgan County High School, where he graduated. He received a bachelor of science in forestry degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institues in Auburn, Ala. He was a former employee of The Union Bag Paper Company in Savannah and retired from Georgia Power Company Land Management Department in 1989. He was a member of The First Uni-ted Methodist Church of New-nan, where he was actively involved with adult education in the Sunday School for more than 35 years, and was associated with the Kiwanis Club and Georgia Power Ambassadors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Chapman and Vessie Haygood Sharpe; and brothers, Arthur C. Sharp and Douglas L. Sharp. Survivors include his widow, Virginia DeLaigle Sharp; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Virginia and Larry Franz, Emily Sharp and Pamela and John Cray; three granddaughters, Amy Franz, Laura Franz and Casey Page; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Sharp..

Marian Wallace

Marian Laing Wallace, 94, of Waynesboro died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003.
Graveside services were 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, with Dr. G. Al Wright and the Rev. Harold Rowland officiating.
Mrs. Wallace, a Liberty County native, had lived in Burke County for 68 years. She was the wife of the late Charles Lane Wallace and the daughter of the late James Winn Lang and the late Mary A. Shuptrine. She attended Georgia State Women’s College, which is now Valdosta State University, and received an education degree. She was employed for 35 years as a teacher with the Burke County Board of Education and retired from public education in 1970. She was a Baptist and had been a member of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, since June of 1956, where she taught in the Children’s Department for many years and was a member of the WMU and the TEL Sunday School Class. She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1943 and was a member for 59 years and also served as a Regent for the DAR for 11 years. She was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association for 33 years. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Laing and Taffy Wallace of Hilton Head, S.C. and David Joseph Wallace of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Marian Wallace Kearson of Waynesboro; two sisters-in-law, Emma Julia Wallace Cammack of Fayette-ville, N.C. and Janette Wallace McCabe of Watertown, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Lane Ashton Wallace of Nashville, Tenn., Katherine Miller Wallace of Atlanta and Heather Renee Kearson of Statesboro. Pallbearers were Lane Wallace, Chris Cammack, Tommy Banks, George “Buddy” Murrow, George Shuptrine and J.S. Shuptrine.
Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 853 Liberty St., Waynesboro, Ga. 30830.

Corine McPherson

Corine McPherson of Waynesboro died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Her funeral was 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Holland officiating. Burial was in Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. McPherson, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest McPherson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mobley; and three sisters, Mattie M. Griffin, Perrie L. Mobley and Carrie A. Williams. Survivors include a daughter, Mable Y. Bailey of Fort Washington, Md.; a son, Ernest McPherson of Waynesboro; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were elders and deacons of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Mary Louise Bonnell

Mary Louise Bonnell, 80, of Centreville, Ala., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Bib Medical Center. Graveside services were 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta. Mrs. Bonnell, was a member of Centreville United Methodist Church and a member of Church Secretaries of America. Survivors include her widower, Charles Bonnell of Waynesboro; a daughter, Mary LuAnne Wages Smith of Centreville; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stephanie Ann and Jon Paul Pruitt of Demop-olis; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, James Leonard and Katherine Smith of Ozark, Ala.; and three great-grandchildren, Cole and Brett Pruitt and Sarah Smith.
Pallbearers were James Smith, Jon Paul Pruitt, Emory Waldon, Charles Housen and Steve Smith. Memorials may be made to Centreville United Methodist Church.

Rev. Geneva H. Jones

Rev. Geneva H. Jones of Augusta, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at her residence.
Her funeral was 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Waynesboro Deliverance Evangelistic Church, with Bishop Gerald Hilson officiating. Burial was in Pines Cemetery.
Rev. Jones, a native of Burke County, was a minister. She was a former nurse at Brentwood Terrace Health Center for over 15 years, one of the founding members of El-Bethel Apostolic Church in Waynesboro and the founder of Bethlehem Temple Church in Midville, where she served as pastor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie M. Millen and Smith Biggins; and four children, James Edwards, Geneva B., Caroline and Werdell. Survivors include her widower, Cortez E. Jones Sr.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Cortez Jr. and Mary F. Jones, Michael and Gillian Jones, and Gerald Jones, all of Atlanta; five daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Nolton of Miami, Sharon Cox and Beverly Rutherford, both of Atlanta, Marietta Tyler, and Pamela and Herbert Ousley, all of Augusta; a stepdaughter, Lydia Neasman of Miami; four sisters, Mabel Brown of Port Chester, N.J., Evangelist Ruth Holmes of Augusta, Katherine Harden of Long Island, N.Y. and Naomi Tremble of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Cortez Jones III, Jonathan Jones, James E. Tyler, Robert Ousley Jr., Reginal Jones, Alfred Nolton, Michael Jones and Timothy Hammond. Honorary pallbearers were sons and church deacons.

Frances B. Burris

Frances Bessent Burris of Hephzibah died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at her residence.
Her funeral was 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Portersville Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. F.F. Cook Jr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Burris, a native of Burke County, was a proprietress and a member of Portersville Missionary Baptist Church. She completed her formal education in Burke County prior to moving to Long Island, N.Y. She and her husband were self-employed proprietors of Filmore Cleaners for over 30 years in Jackson Heights, N.Y. For 25 years, she was an Equitable Life Insurance Company employee until her retirement in May 1989. She returned to Georgia in 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Burris; and her parents, William A. and Hattie Sills Bessent. Survivors include a son, Thomas Cortez Burris of Heph-zibah; a daughter, Saundra Burris Hafford of New York; two brothers, William E. Bessent of Gough and Thomas E. Bessent of Augusta; two sisters, Theodoshia Bessent Jones of Waynesboro and Hattie Bessent Carpenter of Atlanta; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were William E. Bessent II, David W. Burris, Theodore Gresham, S. Ronald Reed, Marshall Thomas and Rick Williams.

Margie Lee R. Scott

Margie Lee Reddick Scott, 80, of Alexander died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at her residence. Her funeral was 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Rose-mont Hei-ghts Baptist Church, with the Revs. Way-ne Dixon and Gordon Goodwill officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Scott was a resident of Burke County but had also lived 10 years in Screven County. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a Methodist. She was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, and was also a member of Newington Methodist Church. Survivors include her widower, Rodney Scott of Alex-ander; two daughters, Victoria R. Richardson and Ruth R. Mc-Clellan, both of Waynesboro; a stepdaughter, Gaile Sullivan of Rincon; two sons, W.H. Reddick and Ronnie Reddick, both of Waynesboro; four sisters, Floy Carroll and Reba Moody, both of Augusta, Mary Hatcher of Sardis and Susie Ward of Syl-vania; three brothers, Otis Dixon, Earl Dixon and Ira Dixon, all of Girard; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Doug Richardson, Jason Richardson, Keith Reddick, Richie McCle-llan, Ken English, Steven Snooks, Craig Sullivan and Geremy Sullivan. Memorials may be made to Rosemont Renovation Fund, 710 Stone Ave., Waynesboro, Ga. 30830 or St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Ga. 30904.

Robert Earl Williams

Robert Earl “Boo” Williams, 29, of Waynesboro died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at his residence. His funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Zion Baptist Church in Millen, with the Rev. Willie Pierce officiating. Burial was at Skull Creek Cemetery #1 in Millen.
Mr. Williams was a native of Richmond County. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Valarie and Thomas Patterson of Waynesboro; his father, Robert Walker of Savannah; four brothers, Tyrone Thomas Tennyson of Waynes-boro, Thomas D. Hudson of Millen, Devon Walker and Robert Walker Jr. of Savannah; three sisters, Yolanda Coleman, Iyonté McKinney and Olivia Walker of Savannah; and his grandparents, Myrea Williams Sr. and Ange-lina Walker, both of Millen, and Georgia Patterson of Waynes-boro. Pallbearers were Calvin J. Mack, Terell Triplet, Willie Mack, Ernest Patterson, Anthony Scott and Johnny Patter-son.

Ethel Ryals

Ethel Ryals, 86, of Sardis died Sunday, March 16, 2003 at Burke Medical Center.
Her funeral was 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Red Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Walker officiating. Burial was in the New Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Ryals, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include eight nephews, Angelo Cooper of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Robert Cooper, Albert Scott, Arthur Freeman of Sardis, Lenwood Cooper of Augusta, Murray Cates, Raymond Cates and Simpson Cates of Sardis; and four nieces, Ollie Washington, Laura Perkins of Sardis, Janet Johnson of Sylvania and Jean Griffin of Rome, Ga. Pallbearers were nephews.
