Paul Freeman Goff
Paul Freeman Goff, 39, of Eatonton, died Aug. 7. He was born in Monticello, the son of Hedy and Thomas Freeman Goff of Eatonton. He was a graduate of Putnam County High School, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1987 to 1991. He worked in construction, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors in addition to his parents include three children, Joshua Goff, Brianna Jenkins and Rose Goff, all of Eatonton; a sister, Wanda Woodbury of Juliette; and two brothers, Troy and Neal Goff, both of Eatonton. Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in the Eatonton Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Roger Hobbs, Frank Rogers, Jimmy and Jesse Johnson, Charlie Brown and Everet January. The family requests that memorials be sent to his three children. Glenn Edward Gregory
Glenn Edward Gregory, 90, of Eatonton, died July 31 at the Oconee Regional Medical Center. He was born in Graham County, N.C., in 1916, the son of the late John Harve Gregory and Effie Jane Farley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carolyn Collis, who died in June 1995. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of VFW Post 6686. He owned and operated a store on the Greensboro Highway. Survivors include a son, John Paul Gregory of Woodstock; brother Harvey Gregory of Eatonton, and three grandsons, Nathan, Daniel and Will Gregory. Graveside services were Aug. 2 at Crooked Creek Cemetery, with John Gregory officiating.

Elizabeth Young Neff
Elizabeth Young Neff, 88, of Eatonton, died Aug. 2. A native of Chattanooga, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ruby Pettis Young, and the widow of the late William Al Neff. She had resided in Decatur for 15 years before moving to Putnam County in 2003. She was retired from the S&H Green Stamp store. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Neff Roth, of San Francisco, and Diane Mullis of Cochran; a son, John Neff of Eatonton; a sister, Jewel Breeden of Cochran; and four grandchildren. Services were Aug. 4 at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Millegeville, with the Rev. Jeff Hegwood officiating.

Jerrold L. Barron
Jerrold Lash “Jerry” Barron, 71, passed away at his home in Great Waters/Reynolds Plan-tation in Eatonton after a three-year battle with cancer. He was born in Tecumseh, Mich., to the late Keith and Esther Barron. He rec-eived his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan, where he also met and married his wife of almost 50 years, Shirley Dayharsh Barron. He remained a life-long, avid U of M fan. Go Blue. The couple moved to Kalamazoo, Mich. in 1959, where they raised four children. Jerry worked for the Upjohn Company (now Pfizer) as director of information systems for 33 years until his retirement in 1992. He served as president of the Data Processing Management Association and he received the W.E.Upjohn Award for Administrative Excellence in 1973. In his spare time, Jerry was very involved with Little League baseball and was an umpire both locally and at the district level for over 15 years. He enjoyed golf and bowling and bowled a 300 game during league play. In 1993 Jerry and Shirley retired to Great Waters in Eatonton. At Reynolds, Jerry served as secretary of the Men’s Golf Association and twice carded aces. Jerry is survived by his wife Shirley; his four children, Dr Kathlene Barron-Grow and husband Geoff of Santa Barbara, Cal., David Barron and wife Andrea of Kalamazoo, Mich., Michael Barron and wife Becky of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Julie Albring and husband Patrick of Howell, Mich.; grandchildren, Katie, Kris and Kelsey Barron, Jacob and Joshua Albring, and Shaun and Kyle Williams. At Jerry’s request, he was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to The First Tee (for children’s golf), World Golf Village, 425 South Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, Fla., 32092 or the charity of your choice. John A. Hill
John Allen “Johnny” Hill, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at his residence. Son of Thomas Jackson Hill and Fannie Mae Newman, he was born Oct. 16, 1943. Hill worked for more than 30 years as an insurance agent and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hill of Eatonton; one daughter, Shawn Leverett and husband Glynn of Eatonton; one son, Shane Hill and wife Lisa of Eatonton; one stepdaughter, Christy Thigpen and husband Kenny of Eatonton; one stepson, Mark Edgar Cristian of New York; two sisters, Bessie Dean Copelan of Greshamville and Ann Gregory of Eatonton; six grandchildren, Codee Guyton, Chelsea Leverett, Sierra Floyd, Luke Hill Leverett, Gage Thigpen and Brayden Hill; and his best canine companion Scully. Funeral services were Saturday, March 3 at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robin Lindsey, John McMillian, Peggy Little and Johnny Harrell officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tinker Wooten, Neil Hewitt, Randy Mason, Clyde Harper, Miles Sills and Neil Dabbs.

Maggie S. Hurt
Maggie Simmons Hurt, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 in Newark, N.J. A native of Putnam County, she resided between Putnam and Baldwin counties for many years. She was the sixth of nine children born to Will and Annie Lucy Simmons. She was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church of Baldwin County. She received her education in Eatonton Public Schools, where she also taught for a short time. She married Rogers Hurt in Putnam County. Later moving to Newark, N.J., she worked at Clairmont Plastic Company for 20 years and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newark. Survivors include three sisters, Mary Lucy Parker of Alsip, Ill., Katie Roger and husband Richard of Bayshore, N.Y., and Mamie Phatt and husband John of Kennedale, Texas; four brothers, Dave Hurt and wife Myrtice of Atlanta, Ben Hurt and wife Mary of Atlanta, Clevelane Hurt Sr. and wife Berdice of Eatonton, and Leo Hurt of Milledgeville; friend, Ethel Milton of Newark, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Feb. 28 at Greater Bell’s Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregory Ellison officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Hurt & Redd Funeral Home in Eatonton was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry B. Kolsom
Henry Buford Kolsom, 90, of 105 Timothy Court in Eatonton, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007. Born in Winter Haven, Fla., on Feb. 1, 1917, he was the son of the late Howard R. and Charlotte L. Kolsom. A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in World War II after surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor as a crew member of the USS Reid. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6686, member of the Navy Fleet Reserve, past master of Cable Masonic Lodge in Greencove Springs, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Norma Kolsom of Eatonton; two daughters, Sandra Mosley and husband Ronald of Eatonton, and Patricia Ramsey and husband Terry of Fremont, Cal.; three grandchildren, Derek Ramsey of Sacramento, Cal., Aaron Ramsey of Fremont, Cal., and Kimberly Mosley of Eatonton; and two great-grandchildren, Thaddius and Thalia Ramsey, both of Fremont, Cal. Graveside service was held March 1 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of the arrangements.

Stewart R. Lovvorn Sr .
Stewart Roy Lovvorn Sr., 74, of 178 West Riverbend Drive in Eatonton, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at his residence. Born in Carroll County on Nov. 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Evie Treadwell Lovvorn. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired as an x-ray technician from the Department of Army. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Eatonton and was a master mason at Latham Lodge No. 12 F&AM in Austell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Lovvorn. Survivors include his wife, Wynelle Kuglar Lovvorn of Eatonton; sons, Roy Lovvorn and wife Tammy of Bowdon, and Jeff Lovvorn and wife Renae of Carrollton; brothers, Doyle and Wayne Lovvorn, both of Bowdon; sister, Hazel Nuckols of Bowdon; grandchildren, Michelle Lovvorn of Villa Rica, Amanda Woods of Pooler, Maria Lovvorn of Carrollton, and Kimberly Sapienza of Carrollton; and one great-grandson, Kameron Lee of Carrollton. Funeral service was Tuesday, March 6 with the Rev. Peggy Little officiating. Interment with full Masonic rites followed at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery. Martha T. Perkins
Martha Tuggle Perkins, 79, of Greensboro, died March 2, 2007, at Heartland Hospice in Augusta. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born Feb. 27 to the late Hillyer Butler and Gertrude Hubbard Tuggle. She attended school in Union Point and Greensboro. During her working career, she was an employee at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital, the credit bureau, Wayne Poultry, and she owned a catering business. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro, where she taught the Amicus Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. “Jack” Perkins Sr. in February 2002. Survivors include her son, James A. “Jackie” Perkins Jr. and wife LeAnne of Evans; daughters Jillyn Bradshaw and husband Wayne of Athens, and Kathy Channell and husband Dene of Greensboro; a sister, Helen Cook of Decatur, Ala.; a brother, William T. “Bill” Tuggle of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Todd Perkins and wife Brooke, Erika Perkins Bible and husband Jason, Ethan Perkins and fiance Brandy Walker, Ross and Joseph Tice, Leighton Channell and wife Amber, and Logan Channell; three great-grandchildren, Rivers, Caelan and Haleigh Perkins, and a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were Monday at First Baptist Church of Greensboro with the Revs. Michael Hardy, Norman Waldrip and James A. Perkins Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Todd and Ethan Perkins, Ross and Joe Tice, Leighton and Logan Channell and Jason Bible. Honary pallbearers were members of Amicus Sunday school class. June H. Volpe
June Havener Volpe, 77, died Feb. 25, 2007, at her residence in Eatonton. She was born in 1929 to the late Claude and Gladys Escher Havener and resided most of her life in New York. She attended Saint Barnabas High School in Yonkers and married Gerald Volpe in 1946. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking traditional Italian and German cuisine for her family, and she was also an avid classic movie buff. She had resided in Eatonton for the past five years. In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Gerald Volpe Jr. of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; daughter, Claudia Murawski and husband Al of Greensboro; grandchildren Michelle Ciavola of Greensboro, Melissa Smith of Athens, Gerald Volpe III of Peekskill, N.Y., and Maria Volpe of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; great-grandchildren Katherine and Cooper Ciavola and Abigail Smith; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by four siblings, John, Mason and Claude Havener and Gladys H. Fodor. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings, N.Y. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, N.Y., 10006. McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Omari T. Whitehead
Omari Taywon Whitehead, 5, of Eatonton, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007. Born Oct. 24, 2001, he was the son of Trudie Nicole Whitehead. In addition to his mother, survivors include a brother, Tyson Stone of Eatonton; grandmother, Mattie Standifer and husband Erskine of Eatonton; grandfathers, Melvin Bishop of Eatonton and Thomas Whitehead of White Plains, N.Y.; three aunts, Shyneta Brown and husband Antwan of Monroe, Corinthia Smith of Eatonton and Rhonwyn Smith of Winterville; and a host of great- aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Memorial service was Thursday, Feb. 22 at New Life Outreach Christian Center in Eatonton with the Rev. Dr. Gus Kilgore officiating. Smith and Sons Funeral Home of Monticello was in charge of the arrangements.

Barry L. Yarian
Officer Barry Lee Yarian, 46, of Stockbridge, died March 1, 2007 at Southern Regional Medical Center. Born July 21, 1960 in Fulton County, he served as a police officer in the city of McDonough for eight years. He served as a volunteer fireman, EMT and was a member of the Georgia Police Chief’s Association, GAFEFI, MATEN and GTOA. He attended Stockbridge Assembly of God and loved family, working, fishing, shooting, camping, golf and helicopters. Survivors include his wife, Tracy Yarian of Stockbridge; children, Tiffany Yarian of Stockbridge and Amanga Yarian of Jonesboro; parents, George and Wynelle Yarian of Eatonton; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Cathy Yarian of Fayetteville; mother and father-in-law, Alvie and Margaret Rodgers of Ellenwood; brother and sister-in-law, Alvie and Mary Catherine Rodgers of Stockbridge; nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Funeral services were Sunday, March 4 at Stockbridge Assembly of God with Pastor Jerry Stewart and Alvie Rodgers officiating. Interment followed at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home of McDonough was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie Bell Dennis
Lillie Bell Johnson Dennis, 83, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007. A native and life-long resident of Putnam County, Dennis was the eldest of 13 children and enjoyed gardening and quilting. She was married May 5, 1946 to Howard Dennis, who preceded her in death on Nov 15, 1986. Survivors include five sons, Edward Dennis and wife Ursula of Lithia Springs, Howard Dennis Jr. of Stone Mountain, Charlie James Dennis of Eatonton, Nathaniel Dennis and wife Patricia of Eatonton and Isaac O’Neal of Albany; four daughters, Patronia Farrar of Albany, Shirley Ann Dennis of Jackson, Miss., Connie Dennis of Lithonia and Nancy Pearman of Decatur; two brothers, Otis Johnson and wife Mary of Philadelphia, Pa. and Peter Johnson and wife Lonnie of Eatonton; three sisters, Hazel Jefferson and husband Henry of Eatonton, Clora M. Humphries of College Park and Florence Johnson of Decatur; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall. Interment followed in East Eatonton Cemetery. Hurt and Redd Funeral Home of Eatonton was in charge of the arrangements.

James P. Hayes
James Perry Hayes, 64, of Covington, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007. He was born in Oconee County to the late Perry Thompson Hayes and Mary Lou Durham Hayes of Watkinsville. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Covington, owner of Air Conditioning Specialist in Covington, a member and treasurer of the Georgia Wildlife Federation, on the board of the FFA Wildlife Camp for Children, a member of the Covington Elks Club, former Jaycee, founding member and former president of the Conditioned Air Association of Georgia. Surviving are his wife, Lisa B. Hayes of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Hayes Miller and Mike L. Miller of Milledgeville; son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Joni Hallman Hayes of Eatonton; grandchildren, Wil Miller, Cole Miller, Emma Hayes, Peri Hayes and J.P. Hayes; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Jennie Hayes, and John and Debra Hayes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Doyle Elder, Nancy Frae and Ricky Ray, all of Watkinsville; mother Mary Lou Hayes of Watkinsville; aunt, Frae Hayes Millman; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 18 at First Baptist Church in Covington with the Rev. Jack Wilson officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Christian Church cemetery in Oconee County. Foster Joe Pinson
Foster Joe Pinson,72, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at his residence in Clayton. A native of Jackson County, Pinson was born Dec. 16, 1934 to the late Bob and Effie T. Pinson. He was the former owner of Pinson Trucking. Surviving are his wife Darlene Pinson of Clayton; one son, Steven Pinson of Greensboro; three daughters, Charlotte Culberson of Eatonton, Vickie Thompson of Rutledge and Belinda Pritchett of Winterville; four sisters, Leavern Brown and Martha Pearson of Rutledge, Neta Peppers of Madison and Sandra Willoughby of Hull; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 3 at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John McMillian officiating. Simmons Funeral Home of Madison was in charge of the arrangements.

Alton W. Davis
Alton William “Billy” Davis, 58, of Welch Trail Road in Eatonton, died Feb. 1, 2007 in Atlanta Medical Center. Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel with the Rev. Hobie Roark officiating. Burial took place at Pine Grove Cemetery. Davis was born in Greenville, S.C., on Oct. 3, 1948 to Eugene Jackson Davis and Essie Mae Burdette and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his children, Billy Davis of Royston, Debbie Hill of Royston, Dan Davis of Little Rock, Ark., Donald Davis of Little Rock, Ark., Alice Siler of Searcy, Ark.; a sister, Alice Cumbie of Eatonton; a brother, James Davis of Eatonton; half-siblings, Clyde Marshall of Eatonton, Sadie Manville of Monticello, Christine Rhoark of Eatonton, Doris Arthur of Eatonton, Jean Nolen of Baton Rouge, La.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Clifford Waldroup
Clifford Waldroup, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007. A veteran of World War II, Waldroup spent most of his life in Putnam County and retired from Enterprises Aluminum Company in 1984. Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Cedar Cliff in Robbinsville, N.C. Survivors include his sister, Ruie Walker of Tallico Plains, Texas; six daughters, Betty Pugh of Flowery Branch, Judy Gilbert of Eatonton, Stella Fowler of Edgewater, Fla., Maudie Jordan of Madison, Nettie Wolfe of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Connie Hall of Adel; one son, Johny Waldroup of Eatonton; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Elmer D. Perry Sr.
Elmer Dallas Perry Sr., 63, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007. Perry was born in Commerce to the late Elmer and Laura Sue Mize Perry. He moved to Lake Sinclair after retiring from Robins Air Force Base. Survivors include his children, Dallas Perry Jr. of Byron, Debbie Harris and husband Karl of Warner Robins; brother Walter Perry and wife Anne of Forsyth; grandchildren, Dallas Perry III, Rebecca Daniel and Jonathon Harris; and nephews and nieces, Bo Perry, Heather Crook, Jennifer Patton and Billy Perry. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Erastus Christian Church cemetery in Commerce. Memorial contributions may be made to Crosspoint Baptist Church Building Fund, 645 Perry Parkway, Perry, Ga., 31069.

Faith B. Robbins
Faith Brianna Robbins, 19 months, of 810 Dennis Station Road in Eatonton, died Feb. 12, 2007 at Medical Center of Central Georgia. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel with Stacey Carver and Dwain Pack officiating. Burial took place at Baldwin Memorial Gardens Robbins was born on July 3, 2005 in Milledgeville to Christopher and Lori Robbins. Survivors include her parents Chris and Lori Robbins; maternal grandparents, Larry and Gwen Davis of Eatonton, Lisa Carter of Forsyth and Bill and Rita Ryan of Johnson City, Tenn.; paternal grandparents, Carl and Mary Hayes of Eatonton and Darrell Barr of Eatonton; great- grandparents, Ben and Carolyn Wheeler of Conyers, William and Thelma Swisher of Pennsboro, W. Va., Larry and Loretta Davis of Daytona, Fla., and Ronnie Robbins of Asheboro, N.C.; great- great-grandparents, Herman and Arbutus Shrader of Eatonton, Evelyn Corley of Juliette and Mildred Davis of Louisville, Ky. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.

Delmas Pilkington
Delmas Pilkington, 71, of 1193 Monticello Hwy. in Eatonton, died Feb. 7, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services were held Feb. 10 at First Baptist Church in Eatonton with A.M. Samples and Wayne Welch officiating. Burial took place at Eatonton Memorial Park following the service. Pilkington was born on July 7, 1935 in Graham County, N.C., to General Jack Pilkington and Maggie Ball. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1954 to March 1957 and worked as an ambulance driver. He was employed for 30 years at Horton Homes where he was a senior driver. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Eatonton and Lone Oak Baptist Church in Eatonton. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Pilkington; two sons, David (Jackie) Pilkington of New Orleans, La., and Brian Pilkington of Eatonton; a sister, Maxine Buchanan of Gastonia, N.C.; and a brother, Hubert Pilkington of Dallas, N.C. Pallbearers were Daniel Byrd, Steve Byrd, David Byrd, Bobby Byrd, Floyd Carver and Francis Palmer. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.
