EATONTON - Rufus Parham Jr., 68, of 238 Glenwood Spring Road, died Monday, May 31, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Enon Baptist Church in Madison with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two children, Tweedy Parham of Eatonton and Marie Jackson of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Walter Parham of Evanston, Ill., Jim Parham of Eatonton and Johnny Parham of Atlanta; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 tonight.

Deanna Oerding

DUNWOODY - Deanna Marie Oerding, 65, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sandy Springs Chapel in Atlanta.

Survivors include her husband Evert Oerding; children, Charles and Marsha Grimes, Jeff and Missy Ford, Tony and Jennifer Richardson and Matt Oerding and his fiancee, Rachel Falbaum; her mother, Judy Van Daveer; four sisters, Judy Van Daveer, Ruth DeBoard, Marcy Hoctor and Shelley Humphrey; a sister-in-law, Vivian Fiene; and seven grandchildren, Chase, Cord, Natalie, Jack, Alex, Taylor and Ryan.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Lecornia Morse, 87, of 2 Bryant Road, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004.

Nellie May

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Nellie Babb May, 88, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at National Healthcare of North Augusta after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Pine Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Warthen, with the Rev. William Moody officiating.

Mrs. May was a native of Baldwin County and was the daughter of the late Preston Brooks Babb and the late Leila Moran Babb. She lived in Augusta for many years. She worked in the children's department at Belk's in Daniel Village until her retirement. She was a member of Warren Baptist Church and the Naomi Ruth Sunday school class. She was a member of the Cross Country Garden Club for many years and a volunteer at St. John's Towers and Blair House. Mrs. May was the widow of the late Wilbur May, a native of Warthen.

Survivors include three children, Joyce May Daniel of North Augusta, Joan May Law of Atlanta and W. Burke May of Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Philip F. Law, Amy Law Raley, John Preston Daniel, Richard Brady Daniel and Thomas Bernard Daniel; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, Ga. 30904.

SPARTA - Yvonne Devereaux, 41, of 946 Jones St., died Saturday, May 29, 2004.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother Katie Devereaux; a son, Quintis Devereaux of Sparta; five brothers, Luther Devereaux Jr., Glenn Devereaux and Bobby Devereaux, all of Sparta, Milton Devereaux of Augusta and Otis Lewis of Cincinnati, Ohio; and five sisters, Shirley McKinney of New York, Mary Bell, Marilyn Devereaux, Linda Walker and Carla McCrary, all of Sparta.

SPARTA - Martha Birdsong, 66, of 740 Ghettis St., died Friday, May 28, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Birdsong and Eloise Birdsong, both of Sparta, and Elaine Birdsong of Binghampton, N.Y.; a son, Larry Birdsong of Augusta; two brothers, Sterling Birdsong of Milledgeville and Lonzy Edwards of Macon; a sister, Mary Alice Washington of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William Bacon

MIAMI, Fla. - William Bacon, 81, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Beulah Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Melvina Bacon; four daughters, Austine Bacon, Brenda Brown, Lois Shaw and Reteeva Sam; three brothers, Marion Bacon, Oscar Bacon and Eugene Bacon; two sisters, Ella Mae Williams and Marie Reynolds; and 11 grandchildren.

Jessie W. Williams

SPARTA - Jessie Wade Williams, 64, of Route 1, Box 35, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in a Macon hospital. Mrs. Williams will lie in state at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home with services at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a loving husband Lee H. Williams; four daughters, Hattie Atwater and husband Michael, Elizabeth Jackson and husband Wilbert, Diane Wiley and husband Leroy and Mary Ann Williams; a son, Frankie Wade and wife Janice; her loving mother Mary Bell Foster; seven sisters, Mildred Boyer and husband Billy, Susie Culver and husband Charlie, Mary Alice Webber and husband Edward, Mary Alma Wallace and husband John, Julia Mae Foster, Mary Lizzie Foster, Delois Bell and husband Arthur; seven brothers, Michael Wade, Authur Lee Foster and wife Joyce, Walter Lee Foster, Sammy Lee Foster and wife Catherine, Anderson Foster and wife Marie, Perry Foster Jr. and wife Eunice, and Jimmy Lee Foster; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a loving mother-in-law, Mary Lee Williams; 11 sisters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; and several other relatives.

The family will be at the residence.

Joyce Simpson, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today in West View Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Nipper officiating.

Survivors include a brother, Aubrey Simpson and wife Mary of Milledgeville; a stepbrother, Oscar Herringdine of Eatonton; and three stepsisters, Virginia Glidewell of Macon, Betty Etheridge of Milledgeville and Jackie Brantley of Evans.

The family will be at the funeral home at 3 p.m. today.

Katherine 'Kitty' Newsome

LAKE SINCLAIR - Katherine "Kitty" Pikulski Newsome, 63, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

Services will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Williams Funeral Home Chapel with Father Michael McWhorter officiating.

A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Mrs. Newsome made Bibb County her home most of her life and lived in Hancock County for the past 14 years. Mrs. Newsome was a retired grammar school teacher with the Bibb County Board of Education. She taught at the Redding Elementary School and at Rosa Taylor School.

Survivors include her husband Paul Newsome of Sparta; a daughter, Vicki Wilson and husband Eddie of Forsyth; a son, Stan Newsome and fiance Jennifer Porter of Macon; and four grandchildren, Chrissy Newsome of Warner Robins, Anna Wilson, James Newsome and Dylan Walsh, all of Forsyth.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to American Lung Association or to th donor's favorite charity.

Carlos Montalvo

Dr. Carlos Montalvo, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Michael McWhorter officiating.

A native of Havana, Cuba, Dr. Montalvo attended the University of Havana and practiced pediatric medicine in Cuba, prior to coming to the United States in 1966. He practiced geriatric medicine at Central State Hospital until his retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosy Huff and husband Steve of Milledgeville; a son, Carlos Montalvo of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Onelia Montalvo and Georgina Montalvo, both of Milledgeville; and three grandchildren, James Paul Huff of New Port Ritchie, Fla., Allison Huff and Lauren Huff, both of Milledgeville.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Myrtle Leverett

SANDERSVILLE - Myrtle E. Leverett, 94, of E. Church Street, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in an Washington County care facility.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brownwood Cemetery with the Rev. Tripp Hodges officiating.

A native of Washington County, Mrs. Leverett was a retired employee of Rawlings Nursing Home. She was a member of the Poplar Springs Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents George W. Leverett and Bessie Simpson Leverett.

Survivors include a sister, Irene Adams of Sandersville; a brother, Walter Leverett of Milledgeville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at 511 Lee St.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Extended Care Facility Activities Fund, 610 Sparta Hwy., Sandersville, Ga. 31082.

Arthur Kent

Arthur Ray Kent, 62, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in a Georgia War Veterans Home.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova, W. Va.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheri Kent Contreras of Columbus, Ohio, Trisha Kent Cardillo of Buford and Eva Kent of Lawrenceville; a son, James Dixon of Pinehurst, N.C.; his mother Lorriane M. Kent of Ceredo, W. Va.; and three brothers, Gary Kent of Ceredo, W. Va., Harry Kent of Anderson, S.C. and Bobby Kent of Lawrenceville.

The family will be at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

ATLANTA - Ella Gay Bundrage Johnson, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004.

Cleveland Harris

Cleveland F. Harris, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with burial in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. C.K. Robertson and the Rev. Grant M. LeRoux Jr. will officiate.

Born in Harris County on Sept. 4, 1921, Mr. Harris retired from Southern Natural Gas after 25 years of service. He served in World War II in the South Pacific theater as a Marine. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and affiliated with St. Stephens Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Betty Warren Harris and an infant daughter, Deborah.

Survivors include four daughters, Lisa Harris Autry and husband Ken of Milledgeville, Margy Cesario and husband Jim of Augusta, Angeline Thurman and husband John and Berilyn Harris, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Steve Harris and wife Mary Martha of Harris County; a brother-in-law, Robert L. Swint and wife Lillian of Plains; and six grandchildren, Rebecca Anne Autry and Adam Autry of Milledgeville, Mathew Cesario of Warner Robins, John Samuel Thurman of Albuquerque, N.M., Hannah Thurman Ledford of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Michael Knox of Atlanta.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
