Shay Williams

Karla Shay Fulcher Williams, 33, of Hephzibah died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Burke County. Her funeral was 4 p.m. Friday, April 12, at DeLoach Funeral Home in Hephzibah, with the Rev. Alan Weaver officiating. Burial was in Hephzibah Vance Cemetery. Mrs. Williams, a native and lifelong resident of Richmond County, was a drywall finisher for D.C.S. Acoustical Ceilings in Hephzibah. She was a Protestant. Survivors include a son, Cody Kilpatrick Kight of Mississippi; two brothers, Clay Fulcher and Shane Fulcher, both of Hephzibah; her parents, Doy and Janice Fulcher of Hephzibah; and her paternal grandmother, Virginia Fulcher of Hephzibah. Pallbearers were Ted Fulcher, Wayne Fulcher, Brad Stocker, Chuck Ellis, Mike Smith and David Fulcher.

James Williams

James Earl Williams, 40, of Hephzibah died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Burke County. His funeral was 4 p.m. Friday, April 12, at DeLoach Funeral Home in Hephzibah, with the Rev. Alan Weaver officiating. Burial was in Hephzibah Vance Cemetery. Mr. Williams, a native of Laurens County, lived most of his life in Burke and Richmond counties. He lived most of his childhood in Burke County and attended school in Sardis and Waynesboro. He was a Baptist. He was a sheet rock hanger and finisher for D.C.S. Acoustical Ceilings in Hephzibah.
Survivors include two daughters, Katheryne Cecil Williams of Augusta and Heidi Hobbs of Millen; two sisters, Jacqueline Elaine Williams of Sardis and Joan Williams Brock of Charleston, S.C.; his mother, Gelaine W. Barkley of Kingsland; three nephews, Jason Crews and Michael Crews, both of Sardis and Joseph Brock of Charleston, S.C.; and two nieces, Jamie Crews of Sardis and Helen Brock of Charleston, S.C. Pallbearers were Jeffery James, Harold Brock, Curtis Sewell, Michael Crews, Jason Crews and Joseph Brock.

Bob Herrington

Olen E. "Bob" Herrington, 79, of Waynesboro died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at University Hospital. Graveside services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville. Mr. Herrington, a native of Providence, Ky., had been a resident of Burke County since 1962. He was a retired bird dog trainer, having trained dogs at DiLane Plantation and Boll Weevil Plantation since moving to Waynesboro. He was a member of the Georgia Field Trials Association and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his widow, Mary Ann Herrington of Waynesboro; a son, Robert Herrington and his wife Marilyn of Americus; and three grandchildren, Monica Herrington, Miranda Nunez and Robert Herrington.

Mitchell Bell

Mitchell Bell, 74, of Sardis died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at University Hospital, Augusta. His funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at New Springfield Baptist Church, with the Revs. Rex Wright, Joseph B. Williams, Charlie Lambert and Allan Jacobs officiating. Burial was in New Springfield Cemetery. Mr. Bell, a native of Burke County, was a former farmer. He was a deacon, former usher board chairman and Sunday School member. Survivors include his widow, Lena W. Bell of Augusta; six daughters, Marvenia Taylor of Macon, Miriam Mason of Covington, Judy Bell and Felicia Bell, both of Alexander, Michelle Bell Ali of Germany and Tonya Bell of Augusta; three stepsons, Lucious Gordon of Lawton, Okla., Wycliffe Gordon of New York and Eric Gordon of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Karen Gordon of North Augusta, S.C.; a brother, Calvin Bell Sr. of Waynesboro; a sister, Gussie Whiting of Waynesboro; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Vince Bell, Marlon Mason, Robert Lee Thomas Jr., Larry Lewis, Marcus Mason and Thomas Whitfield Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of New Springfield Baptist Church.

Sarah Alley Skinner

Sarah Alley Skinner, 94, of Dublin, died Saturday, April 13, 2002.
Her funeral was 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at First Baptist Church, Dublin, with the Rev. Dr. Cliff Morris and the Rev. Wally Weaver officiating. Burial was in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Skinner, a native of the mountains of North Georgia, was a graduate of Women's College of Georgia. She married J.J. Skinner and lived 40 years in Waynesboro. She then moved to Dublin to be near her son, Dr. Jones Skinner Jr, who preceded her in death, and his family. She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of the Eastern Star, the Parnassus Study Club, Dublin Fine Arts Association and the Dublin Garden Club. She volunteered as a reading and literacy tutor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dublin. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Peacock of Eastman; a daughter-in-law, Lucy Skinner of Dublin; two granddaughters, Sarah L. Skinner of Lilburn and Mary E. Skinner of New York; and three nieces, Grace Virginia Walsh of New York, Barbara Simon of Las Vegas and Katherine Thomas of Warner Robins. Pallbearers were Dr. Pat Roche, Wayne Christian, Edward "Bo-j" Burton Claxton III, Roy Black, Raymond Thomas, Ben Snipes and Billy Knowles.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Ministry, 405 Bellevue Ave., Dublin, Ga. 31021.

Elnora Lightfoot Jackson

Elnora Lightfoot Jackson, 92, of Waynesboro died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Burke Medical Center, Waynesboro. Her funeral was 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Porterville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ulysses Barber officiating.
Mrs. Jackson, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Porterville Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Willie James Jackson Sr. of Waynesboro; four daughters, Julia Rivers, Elnora Jackson, Mae Pearl Jackson and Daisy Lawrence, all of Waynesboro; and 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Leevert Jackson, Tyrone Wilson, Terry Lawrence, Willie Jackson Jr., Thomas Lawrence and Willie Jackson III.

Velma Perkins

Velma Mae Braswell Perkins, 78, of Hephzibah died Friday, April 19, 2002 at her residence. Her funeral was 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Clarks Chapel, with the Rev. John Adams officiating. Burial was in the Clarks Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Perkins was a homemaker and member of the New House of Worship in Keysville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Perkins Sr.; a son, Wayne C. Perkins; a daughter, Norma Jean Saturday; and a son-in-law, Robert Saturday.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin O’Bryan of Blythe; three sons, Rev. William R. “Bill” Perkins Jr. of Augusta, Morris Edward Perkins of Martinez and Jerry L. Perkins of Blythe; six sisters, Alma Rouse and Bonnie Sue Adams, both of Homerville, Anna Lou Perkins of Keysville, Betty Ansley of Thomson, Madeline Adams of Pearson and Myrtle Braswell of Tennessee; a brother, Joe Braswell of Homerville; and 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mark Eckstein, Joe Skinner, Scott Eckstein, Hubert Padgett, Chuck Corley, Patrick Perkins and Chris Hopkins.

Ruby Feaster

Ruby Feaster, 88, of Waynes-boro died Friday, April 19, 2002.
Her funeral will be 12:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 24), at Second Springfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Givens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Feaster, a native of Burke County, was a member of Second Springfield Baptist Church and a Mother of the Church. Survivors include three nieces, Georgia Holloway and Vera Coleman Wells, both of Passaic, N.J., and Sheila H. Pierre of Waynesboro; a nephew, William Lovette of St. Petersburg, Fla., and three great-nieces.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Hoyt M. Goodson Jr.

Hoyt Mayfield Goodson Jr., 76, of Waynesboro died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at University Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services were 4 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, McBean, with the Rev. Dan King and Dr. Francis L. Ford officiating. A memorial service will also be held 5 p.m., Sunday, April 28, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3501 Walton Way Extension, Augusta.
Mr. Goodson was a native of Augusta, but had lived over 20 years in Burke County. He had retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad with over 30 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and then serving with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1947 to 1950. He was an active supporter of different causes, an author and a poet. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Augusta and was very active in his church.
Survivors include his widow, Liz Goodson of Waynesboro, two stepsons, Brad Cahoon of Athens and Forrest Cahoon on Minneapolis, Minn.; four sisters and their husbands, Margie G. and William B. Streeter of Savannah, Jo G. and Otis B. Kni-ght, Peggy G. and Traylor Crozier and Donna G. and Alan Boland, all of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were nephews, William B. Streeter III, Mark G. Streeter, W.H. “Doc” Knight, Ben Knight, Tanner Knight, Joseph Crozier, Hoby Crozier, David Crozier Jr., Rick Boland and Daniel Boland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3501 Walton Way Extension, Augusta, Ga. 30909; or to the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Attn: Jo Knight, 183 Knight Road, Waynesboro, Ga. 30830.

Constance Kight

Constance Burgess Kight, 62, of Augusta died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at University Hospital Her funeral is 11 a.m. today(Wednesday, Aug. 7), at DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel in Hephzibah. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta.
Mrs. Kight, a native and lifelong resident of Richmond County, retired from the Richmond County Board of Education Food Service Division after 20 years of service. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert B. Burgess and Charles W. Burgess. Survivors include her widower, Jimmy O. Kight of Augusta; a son, Mark and Cindy Kight of Augusta; a sister, Betty B. Horton of Conyers; a grandson, Marcus Trey Kight of Ft. Lee, Va.
Pallbearers will be Angus L. Mixson Jr., J. Frank Clair, Angus L. Mixson III, Christopher O. Clark, Jones H. Nelson and Michael Nelson.
Friends may call at the residence of her son, Mark Kight, 3205 Rushing Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30906.

Mary Hilton Griffin

Mary Hilton Griffin, 102, of Girard died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at Screven County Hospital. Her funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Thankful Missionary Baptist Chur-ch, with the Rev. Berry Rogers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Miss Griffin, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Thankful Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Frank Griffin of Girard and James Griffin and Albert Griffin of Philadelphia; a daughter, Bulah G. Gordon of Girard; three sisters, Mamie Gantt of Queens, N.Y., and Minnie Brigham and Mattie Scott, both of Savannah; and 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.Mary Lue Jackson Mary Lue Jackson, 77, of Waynesboro died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at Burke Medical Center. Her funeral was 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug.11, at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. John Henry Bush officiating. Burial was in Third Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. Jackson was a native of Burke County and a homemaker. Survivors include two cousins, Willie Mae Wright and Josephine Fields, both of Waynesboro; and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Parker Gupton, Derrick D. Wright, Raymond Wright and Luther Williams.

Melissa Key

Melissa Ivey Key, 16, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002.
Her funeral was 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Berean Baptist Church in Hephzibah, with the Revs. Charlie Pennington and Maynard Weaver officiating. Burial was at Westover Cemetery. Mrs. Key was a resident of Burke County and a student at Burke County High School. Survivors include her widower, Robert J. Key; parents, William L. Ivey of Hephzibah and Tammy M. Ivey of Augusta; grandparents, Lee and Gen Ivey of Hephzibah and Billy and Christine Moore of Augusta; and great-grandmother, Mildred Louise Moore of Augusta. Pallbearers were Kenneth Moore, Michael Moore, Travis Moore, David Moore, Mike Key and Arthur Key. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Clark and Randy Mills

Betty Boatright

Betty Smith Boatright, 72, of Waynesboro died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at University Hospital, Augusta. Her funeral was 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel in Way-nesboro, with the Revs. Earl Saxon and Wes Lawson officiating. Entombment was in the Mausoleum of Peace, Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynes-boro. Mrs. Boatright, a native of Greenwood, S.C., had made Waynesboro her home for over 25 years. She was a Wal-Mart associate with Wal-Mart Super-center in Waynesboro. She attended Rosemont Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Gail Patterson. Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda S. Burke of Waynes-boro; a son, Leonard “Lennie” E. Smith of Baxley; two brothers, Ray Smith of Piedmont, S.C., and Dean Smith of Rome, S.C.; two sisters, Sandra Williams and Ann Sherfinski, both of Moncks Corner, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Matthew Burke, Megan Burke, Brandon Patterson and Leonard E. Smith III. Pallbearers were Matthew Burke, Brandon Patterson, Michael Mayers, Don Smith and Geofrey Redd.
