James “Bee” Chandler
James “Bee” Chandler, 76, of Sardis died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
His funeral will be 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 14), at New Springfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie B. Tomlin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Chandler, a native of Burke County, was a retired cement finisher. He was a member of New Springfield Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for many years. Survivors include his widow, Lillie M. Chandler; seven sons, James Chandler Jr., Larry Chandler, Jack Chandler, Jimmy Chandler, Lloyd Chandler, Marvin Givens and Barry Jones; four daughters, Laretha Williams, Joan Griffin, Jeanna Preston and Laura Jones; two brothers, Robert Chandler Sr. and Eugene Chandler; four sisters, Jacqueline Witcha, Betty Davis, Bennie Mae Carswell and Lois Banks; and 35 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tony Chandler, Cedrick Lynch, Jessie Holmes, Gregory Carswell, Norris Newton, Kenneth Jones and Patrick Nelson.
Annie Willie Goodwin
Annie Willie Goodwin of Waynesboro died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at her residence.
Her funeral was 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at McElmurray Spring Bran-ch Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ch-arles Utley, Glenn Wig-gins Sr., Hen-ry L. Han-kerson and Eddie Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Goodwin, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of McElmurray Spring Branch Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Star Lodge #223 Heroines of Jericho, the Young Children Union Aide Society #1, the Union Ladies Club and The Eastern Star.
Survivors include four sons, Leonard Goodwin of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Henry (Jo Ann) Goodwin of Augusta, Johnny (Margaret) Goodwin of Lithonia and Louis (Leah) Goodwin of Waynesboro; six daughters, Annie (Robert) Jones of Concord, N.C., Irene Bridges of Philadelphia, Mary Ann Howard of Asbury Park, N.J., Ruby Griffin and Lula (Hillary) Han-kerson, both of Waynesboro, and Queen (Herbert) Glover of Augusta; a sister, Alberta Luke of Augusta; and 41 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons.
Mildred Glisson McCullough Reagan
Mildred Glisson McCullough Reagan, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002 at Savannah Hospice House. Her funeral will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Hudson officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Corinth Christian Church Cemetery in Girard. Mrs. Reagan, a native of Girard, had lived in Savannah since 1958. She was the widow of Robert "Skeeter" Reagan and they owned Reagan Chevron Stations of Savannah. Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry McCullough of Guyton, Kay and Robert Reagan Jr. of Swainsboro and Arnold Reagan of Rincon; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Larry Luker of Savannah, Larose Marie and George Miller of Sulphur, La., Kathy and Edward Soto of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Shirley and Wayne Drinnen Jr. of Powell, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Jeanette Glisson of Sardis; and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Keydreck Terrell Holmes II, Keyondreck Santrell Holmes
Keydreck Terrell Holmes II and Keyondreck Santrell Holmes, twin boys, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
Their funeral services were noon Saturday, Aug. 17, at Waynesboro Deliverance Evangelistic Church, with the Rev. Glenn Wiggins officiating. Burial was in the Jobe Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Keydreck and Keyondreck were born in Richmond County. Survivors include their parents, Keydreck I. And Sandra Holmes of Waynesboro; grandparents, Jimmie Sr. and Annie Walker and Carlton Sr. and Jan-ice Holmes, all of Waynesboro; and great-grandparents, Joe and Rosa Greene and Lurethia Holmes, all of Waynesboro.
Naomi Godbee
Naomi Holland Godbee, 90, of Sardis died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at Thomson Manor Nursing Home in Thomson. Her funeral was 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Sardis Methodist Church, with the Revs. Roy White and Karen Zeigler officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro. Mrs. Godbee, a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, was a homemaker and a former longtime employee of Keller Aluminum Products. She was a member of Sardis Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Godbee; a son, Monroe “Roe” Godbee; and a grandson, Brian Godbee.
Survivors include two sons, Grady Godbee and his wife, Doris of Augusta and James Godbee of Sardis; a daughter-in-law Peggy Godbee of Girard; a sister, Dorothy Shank of Washington, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Godbee, Laurie Godbee, Christy Mylar and Paul Godbee; and four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Mylar, Sarah Mylar, Grant Godbee and Jake Godbee. Pallbearers were Ronald Alexander, Edsel Higgin-botham, Michael Hamilton, John Hamilton, Billy Cullen and Charlie Hillis.
Myrtle Lee Allen
Myrtle Lee Allen, 88, of Atlanta died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at Southern Living PCH in Stone Mountain. Her funeral was 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro, with Dr. Al Wright officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Mrs. Allen, a native of Gough, graduated from Waynesboro High School and Georgia State Women’s College in Milledge-ville. She completed her working years as district manager with Field Enterprises. She was a member of the DAR and First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Allen; and her parents, Irene Robinson Stroud and Daniel Lee Stroud, formerly of Burke County. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Lovett and Mary Martha Rugg, both of DeKalb County; and two grandsons, Norman W. Gibson and Dan Gibson, both of Atlanta. Pallbearers were Dr. Lamar Murray, Dr. Walter Voyles, Dennis Taylor, John Thomas Wynne, Richard O’Quinn, Doug Cates, David Dixon and Louis Abbott.

Teresa Ann Moss
Teresa Ann Moss, 37, of Girard died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. Graveside services were 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, with Dr. Bill King officiating.
Miss Moss, a native of Jenkins County, lived most of her life in Burke County. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lewis Moss Sr. and Ruby Oglesby Moss; and a brother, Charles L. Moss Jr.
Survivors include her fiance, Dewayne Meeks of Girard; three sisters, Mary Collins and Nancy Luckey, both of Waynesboro and Judith Lynn Dixon of Hartsville, S.C.; and three brothers, Henry D. Moss of Waynesboro and Joey D. Moss and Donnie L. Moss, both of Sardis. Pallbearers were Bobby Posey, Dewayne Meeks Jr., Billy Ray Brown, Troy Dixon, Kevin Ellison and Craig Rigdon.
Sallie Joe Cooper
Sallie Joe Cooper of Waynesboro died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002 at her residence.
Her funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Givens Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Isiah Kirkland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Cooper, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was educated in the Burke County school system and was a member of Givens Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the ushers’ board. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Tyrone Cooper of Girard and Marquez Cooper of Waynesboro; a daughter, Vivian Ann Cooper of Waynesboro; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles and Lois Cooper of Savannah and James Cooper of Daytona, Fla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mamie Cooper of Daytona and Ida Lu and Robert Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandmother, Zellie Lee Rouse of Waynesboro; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Bryant Jones, Sidney Chance, LeMarcus Jones, Ben Brigham, Fred Mobley and Frank Cooper.
Henry C. Cauley
Henry C. Cauley of Augusta died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2002 at his residence. His funeral was 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home in Martinez, with the Rev. Reginald Blakewood officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens in Langley, S.C. Mr. Cauley, a native of Millen, has lived in Augusta for the past 22 years. He retired from the Norfolk-Southern Railroad as an engineer and was a member of Hill Baptist Church-West. Survivors include a daughter, Alana Cauley Reeves of Waynesboro; two sons, Kevin D. Cauley of Charleston, S.C. and John Cauley of Atlanta; a brother, Pete Cauley of Millen; five sisters, Ruth Ozbolt of Rocky Ford, Geneva Suggs of Twin City, Hazel Harris of Albany, Catherine Powell of Georgia and Betty Smith of Buloxi, Miss.; and two grandchildren, Chandler and Mollie Reeves of Waynesboro. Pallbearers were Ron Fox, Roy Strickland, Daniel Newhall, Albert Thompson, Tim Rooks and Matthew Ricks.
Edna Davis
Edna Courson Davis, 83, of Waynesboro died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002
Graveside services were 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, with the Rev. Dr. Al Wright officiating. Mrs. Davis, a native of Emanuel County, had made Burke County her home since 1940. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Davis, and a son, Ed Davis. Survivors include two daughters, Alisa Wheat of Waynesboro and Sandra Henry of Germany; two sisters, Nell C. Pharis of Savannah and Emily Mosley of Soperton; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Johnnie L. Holmes Sr.
Johnnie L. “Red Cap” Holmes Sr., 76, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at Sunrise Nursing Home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. His funeral was 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at McWhite’s Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, with the Rev. Carnell McCoy officiating. Mr. Holmes was a native of Burke County and attended public school in Burke County. While in Georgia, he was a farmer. Later in life he moved to Florida, where he became a professional dog trainer. He was a bus driver for the senior citizens before his retirement. Survivors include his widow, Julia Kelly Holmes Walker; a daughter, Emma and George Adams of Waynesboro; two sons, Johnny L. Jr. and Margaret Holmes of Hephzibah and Allen Washington of Waynes-boro; three brothers, Mathis Holmes, Aaron Holmes and Leila Bell, all of Deerfield, Fla., and Willie Holmes of Ft. Lauderdale; and seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Aaron Hammock
Aaron Arnold “AJ” Hammock, 13 months, of Girard died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta from accidental drowning.
His funeral was 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Sardis Baptist Church in Sardis, with Dr. Bill King officiating. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery. Aaron was born in Burke County July 3, 2001. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marie Hammock.
Survivors include his parents, Johnny Ben and Camilla Bunch Hammock of Girard; three brothers, Johnny Ben Hammock Jr., Waldo Floyd Hammock and Jonathan Dean Hammock, all of Girard; and his grandparents, Waldo and Ethel Bunch of Portal and Walter Hammock of Augusta. Pallbearers were Alex Holland, Jason Bolton, James Conrad, Grover Vickery and Rosa Bunch Overstreet.
Louise Rose Cannon
Louise Rose “Granny” Cannon, 85, of Waynesboro died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 28), at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Fla. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Cannon, a native of St. Joe, Fla., had been a resident of Vero Beach until two years ago when she moved to Waynes-boro. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late Smith Turner Cannon.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret T. Wells of Waynes-boro; a son, James Charles Cannon of Roseland, Fla.; three sisters, Mathilda Frassrand of Dade City, Agnes Helen Hufstetler of Tampa, Fla. and Theresa Marie Quinn of Holiday; two brothers, Art Frassrand and Frankie Frassrand, both of Dade City; and five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
