Mrs. Carrine Lulla Pace

Mrs. Carrine Lulla Pace, 76, of Griffin Street, Grantville, died Jan. 19, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

She was born Nov. 27, 1922 in Coweta County, one of nine children to the late Mr. Cicero and Mrs. Emma Johnson.

She was affiliated with the John Wesley United Methodist Church from childhood to adulthood. She was married to the late Mr. Walter Pace Sr. for 65 years and they had four children. One son, William Walter Jr., preceded her in death.

A funeral was Friday, Jan. 22 at John Wesley United Methodist in Grantville with the Rev. Joe P. Geter, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Robinson and the Rev. Edmond Leigh.

Burial was in Grantville City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Joshua Pace, Randall Pace, Timothy Pace, Richard Pace, Jarret Johnson, Benjii Lundy, Kenneth Pace and Charles Pate.

Surviving are her children, Marion, Willie Roy and Richard Melvin Pace; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Mrs. Catherine Davis and Mrs. Frizelle Horton; nieces and nephews.

Ms. Maxine Terrell, sister of Mrs. Jereline Wilburn, of Belk Road, Newnan, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Marlene Shaw, 65, of Shaw Road in Gay died Jan. 23, 1999 at Spalding Regional Hospital.

Born in Fulton County, Mrs. Shaw was the daughter of the late Marvin Awtry. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

The funeral was Tuesday, Jan. 26, at McCullough Funeral Home, with the Rev. Winston Skinner officiating. Burial followed at Westwood Gardens.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis Shaw; children, Debbie Patrick of Jonesboro, Billy Price of Griffin, Gail Nalley of Gay, Kelly Price of Morrow, Michael Price of Woodbury, Sheila Ann Shaw, Wendell Shaw, both of Fayetteville; mother, Bea Awtry of Union City; sister, Joyce Knowles of Winter Haven, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mr. John Talmadge Shelnutt

Mr. John Talmadge Shelnutt, 65, of Hogansville died Jan. 25, 1999 at his home.

Born March 13, 1933 in Grantville, Mr. Shelnutt was the son of the late John Thomas Shelnutt and Dana Rainwater Shelnutt. He was a Baptist and a retired meatcutter.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan 27, at 2 p.m. at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Earl Miller of Franklin; sisters, Katherine Hannah, Emily Hilton, both of Carrollton; granddaughter, Amanda Reid of Hogansville; and great-granddaughter, Savannah McClendon of Hogansville.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Ira P. "Shep" Shepherd of Newnan; daughters, Susan S. Prosser of Fayetteville, Ann S. Smith of Rockville, N.Y.; son, Pat Shepherd III of Peachtree City; sister, Myrtle J. Kimbrell of Barnesville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Robert E. Tuthill, 62, of Newnan died Jan. 25, 1999.

Mrs. Hazel W. Sewell

Mrs. Hazel W. Sewell, 79, of LaGrange Street in Grantville died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1919 in Coweta County, Mrs. Sewell the daughter of the late Howard A. Walton and Clara Lou Crain Walton and was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Foster. She was a retired Peachtree Regional Hospital nurse and had worked at the Newnan Health Department.

Mrs. Sewell was a member of Grantville United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Darris Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive visitors Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, James P. Sewell of Grantville; daughter, Alice S. (Hartley) Bonner of Grantville; son, James A. (Suzanne) Gillespie of Dunwoody; sister, Jimmie (Ben) Beninate of Merritt Island, Fla.; granddaughters, Jennifer Gillespie, Sarah Caroline Bonner; grandson, Jay Gillespie; and brother-in-law, Rufus Foster.

Mrs. Lillian Wright, 74, of Glenn Street in Newnan died Jan. 26, 1999 at her home.

Born Dec. 27, 1924 in Newnan, Mrs. Wright was the daughter of the late Jim Irvin Webb and Willie Mae Gravitt Webb. She was retired from Lorain Products and was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church.

The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Powers and the Rev. Jerry Lassetter officiating.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Newnan, with David Abelt, Eugene Willingham, Lamar Wright, Kenny Helton, Danny Mitchell, Steve Helton and Chris Helton as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Matrons Sunday School Class of East Newnan Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford U. Wright of Newnan; son, George and Marie Abelt of Newnan; daughter, Marion and Pat Helton of Newnan; sisters, Nellie Phillips of McDonough, Alma Moore of Talladega, Ala.; sister-in-law, Florine Webb, Evelyn Wright, both of Newnan; brother-in-law, Clifton Willingham of Newnan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Mr. Ervin Weir Jr.

Mr. Ervin Weir Jr., 75, of South Street in Newnan died Jan 26, 1999 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born April 26, 1923 in Coweta County, Mr. Weir was a retired minister and was retired from The Bibb Co. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater in World War II.

Mr. Weir was a 50-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He served as post and district chaplain for both organizations and supported local veterans and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Decatur.

The funeral will be Thursday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with G.D. Hendrix, James Calhoun and Dick Stender officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, with members of the American Legion, the DAV and the VFW as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Weir of Newnan; daughter, Pat Golden of Newnan; sons, Raymond Thomas Weir of LaGrange, Richard James Weir of Woodbury; sister, Barbara Mote of Texas; brother, Robert Donald Weir of Newnan; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Travis H. Acree, 83, of Luthersville died Jan. 27, 1999 at his home.

Born March 14, 1915 in Calhoun, Mr. Acree was the son of the late Marvin Acree and Webbie Hugins Acree and the husband of the late Mae. G. Acree. A member of Luthersville Baptist Church, he was retired from the DeKalb County Tax Office and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Felder officiating. Burial will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Blackwood Spring Cemetery in Calhoun.

The family will receive visitors Friday, Jan. 29, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his son, Gene M. Acree of Luthersville; two granddaughters; brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Maggie Ruth Costley Gray, 83, died Jan. 27, 1999 at Barnwell County Hospital in Barnwell, S.C.

Born April 5, 1915 in Newnan, Mrs. Gray was the daughter of the late Thomas Earl Costley and Maggie Valencia Hanson Costley. She was a homemaker.

The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at Folk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy hand officiating. Burial will follow at Barnwell Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, W.G. Gray; daughters, Betty Gail Baxley, Audrey Gray, both of Williston, S.C.; sons, Gordon Gray of Williston, Stanley Gray, Earl Gray, both of Aiken, S.C.; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Robert E. McGouirk, 71, of Grantville died Jan. 26, 1999 at Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Born July 2, 1927 in Troup County, Mr. McGouirk was the son of the late Gorge Franklin McGouirk and Julie Kelley McGouirk. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

A graveside service was Thursday at Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Coweta County, with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating.

Survivors include his son, James Michael McGouirk of Grantville; brother, Tony McGouirk of Hazelhurst; brother-in-law, Ed Parrott of Newnan; nieces and nephews.

Dr. Robert Scott Stearns of Newnan died Jan. 26, 1999.

Born June 19, 1958 in Atlanta, Dr. Stearns was the son of the late Joan Dallien and was preceded in death by an aunt, Patricia Grace Dallien. A dentist, he was a graduate of Tucker High School, Georgia State University and the Medical College of Georgia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said by Father David Patterson Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville. Burial will follow at Rehoboth Cemetery in Tucker. The family will receive visitors Friday, Jan. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Lowndes and McLane Funeral Home in Tucker.

Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Joan Stearns of Newnan; father, Lester M. Mr. Tommy Ray Mayfield Sr., 54, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. died Jan. 28, 1999 at his home.

Born Dec. 17, 1944 in Fayetteville, Mr. Mayfield was the son of the late Marvin "Bud" Mayfield and was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Mayfield of Sharpsburg. He was employed by Alloy Fabricators as a pipefitter and welder.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The funeral will be Sunday, Jan. 31, at 1:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, with Bishop Ron Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
