Mr. Boyd W. Lamb

Mr. Boyd W. (Bill) Lamb, 71, of Palestine, Texas, and a former resident of Hogansville, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at his home.

A retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army following 25 years of service, Mr. Lamb was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. A Mason, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lamb was the son of the late Merrell and Helen Crache Lamb.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 2, in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Jesse Sims will officiate and burial will be in the Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Monday.

Survivors include wife June Sims Lamb, of Palestine, Texas, daughter Terri Cook, of Jacksonville, Texas, son Michael Lamb, of Latexo, Texas, sisters Charlotte Gray of Silverdale, Wash., and Mary Stewart, of Palm Bay, Fla., brothers Harold Lamb, of Palestine, Texas, and Gale Lamb, of Palm Bay, FLa. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Lamb may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Dan C. White Sr.

Mr. Dan C. White Sr., 69, of Newnan, died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Fayette Community Hospital.

Mr. White was born May 6, 1930 in Newnan. He was retired and was the owner of a retail store. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Preceding him in death were a brother, Bill White; daughter Vickie and her husband Richard Lewis; and grandson Richard Brian Lewis.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. Mike Holdridge and the Rev. Melvin Payne will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Pallbearers will be David Abernathy, Michael Beam, Phil Buchanan, J. C. Byrd, Dave Fields, Greg Lewis, Lee Watson and Justin White.

Surviving are his wife, Norma White of Newnan, daughter, Donna Lynn White of Newnan; son, Dan Camp White Jr. of Newnan; sisters, Frances Brittain, Josephine Buchanan, both of Newnan, and Mary Owens of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother, David White of Newnan; grandchildren, Jennifer Deacon, Greg Lewis, Christa White, Jason White and Justin White and great-grandchild Kimberly Deacon, all of Newnan.

Mrs. Winnifred P. Green

Mrs. Winnifred Pike Green, 63, of Hogansville, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Green was born March 25, 1936, in Newnan, daughter of the late Elmer and Sara Daniel Pike. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a member of Highland Baptist Church and the W.M.U. She retired as a supervisor for Playtex International in Nwnan and was the wife of the late L. W. "Buddy" Green.

A funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown, Mr. Harold Todd, and Mrs. H. C. Brock will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Cindy Green of LaGrange; sister, Ms. Gwen Pike of Hogansville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Nellie Pike of Tampa, Fla. and John and Margo Pike of Miami, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Nellie G. Pitts of Hogansville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alma and Fred Wheelus of Hogansville; and two grandchildren, Mitch Green and Melanie Green of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Green may be made to Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville.

Mr. Jimmie Jones

Mr. Jimmie Jones, 75, of El Dorado, Arizona, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at his residence.

Mr. Jones was born April 13, 1924 in Boyton, Ga. to the late Maude Stanfield Jones and Jessie Jackson Jones. He was a retired maintenance worker and truck driver for Con Agra Poultry Co.; member of Masonic Lodge #750 F.&A.M.; a U.S. Air Force veteran; and member of the Baptist faith. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a sister, Sue Hope and grandsons George Alton McGaugh Jr. and Skip Moore.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Young's Funeral Directors in El Dorado. The family may be reached at Mr. Jones' home at 100 Forest Hill in El Dorado.

A funeral will be at graveside 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999 in Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery in El Dorado, Arizona. The Rev. Steve Moss will officiate.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Jones of El Dorado, Arizona; and daughters, Linda Ann Cox of Abilene, Texas; Peggy Sue McGaugh of Newnan, Joanna Kay Graham of Hot Springs, Arizona, Colleen McMullan of El Dorado, Arizona, and Cathleen Nan Graham of Turin, Ga.

Mr. Clyde J. Ivery, 71, of Woodbury, Ga. died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at his residence.

Mr. Ivery was born June 9, 1928 in Coweta County to John Ivery and the former Della Presley. He was a road foreman for Brown Steel in Newnan.

A funeral will be held at graveside in Crouch Cemetery Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Drew Corbett officiating.

Surviving are his wife, Valinda Smoot Ivery of Woodbury; stepdaughter, Crystal Fowler Burks (Keith) of Thomaston; stepson Derek Fowler of Warm Springs; three step-grandchildren, Rusti Houston, Drew Burks and Cam Burks.

Mr. Levi Britt, 43, of 10 Hampton Place, Newnan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie D. and Dora Britt, died August 2, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Deural E. Jackson, 69, of Shiloh Road, Peachtree City, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999 at Fayette Community Hospital.

Mr. Jackson was born Sept. 10, 1929 in Soperton, Ga. to Robert Jackson and Clyde Collins. He was retired and was a bridge engineer for the state Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.

A funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan with the Rev. Carl Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Michael Beckom, Joshua Beckom, Robbie Faver, Edward Arrington, Stanley Gentry and Carlton Hannah.

Mrs. Louise Adams Milam of Palmetto died August 3, 1999.

Mrs. Mary Johnson Stevenson

Mrs. Mary Johnson Stevenson of Southfield, Mich., formerly of Newnan, and wife of Mr. Edward Stevenson, died August 2, 1999 in Southfield, Mich. Local survivors are sister and brothers, Virginia, Horrace, Johnny and Alfred Johnson. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Mrs. Stevenson's remains will be brought to Newnan.

Mr. Edward J. Ney

Mr. Edward J. Ney, 71, of Woodland Trail, Newnan, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999 at his residence following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 16, 1928 in Cumberland, Maryland, he was a son of the late Andrew and Edna Ney. On Oct. 10, 1953 he married the former Pat Markley, who survives.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Ney.

Mr. Ney's 44-year career as a nuclear physicist and energy scientist began with his graduation from West Virginia University with a Master of Science degree in physics in 1952. He spent 29 years with Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Bettis Atomic Power Lab, Idaho National Engineering Lab, and Advanced Energy Systems Division. He managed projects involving solar energy, wind energy, fuel cells, magnetohydrodynamics, and fusion, in addition to nuclear energy for propulsion of submarines, aircraft and rockets. He worked in nuclear power electricity generation, nuclear materials testing, and nuclear powered, self-contained artificial heart.

Mr. Ney was a member of the American Nuclear Society, American Insitute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Atomic Industrial Forum, American Solar Energy Society, National Security Industrial Association (Solar Review Committee), West Virginia Collegiate Academy of Science, and the American Physical Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 9 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Weston, West Virginia, with the Rev. Fr. James Murphy as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Surviving are his wife, Pat Markley Ney; a son, Edward Ney of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters and son-in-law, Dr. George MacNabb and Michele MacNabb of Newnan and Dr. Kathryn Ney of Santa Rosa, California; one brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Dorothy Ney of Alliance, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Kathryn and Mary Elizabeth MacNabb.

Mr. Henry Claude Wilson Jr., 78, of Newnan, formerly of Daytona Beach, Florida, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999 at Atlanta Medical Center.

Mr. Wilson was born March 5, 1921 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lorane Wilson. Mr. Wilson served in the Navy during World War II and was a retired restaurant manager.

A memorial service will be held in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Surviving is his son, Henry Claude Wilson III of Newnan.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Atlanta Humane Society.

Mrs. Agnes Abercrombie Abner, 76, of Carrollton, died Wednesday, August 4, 1999.

Mrs. Abner was born in Coweta County Oct. 20, 1922, the daughter of John Wesley Abercrombie and Martha Anne Coffey Abercrombie. She was married to Horace Abner for 52 years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a retired educator and a lifetime member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was an alumni of Oglethorpe College, University of Georgia and West Georgia College. She held a six-year Reading Specialist certificate.

A funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Insko officting. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Wayne Allen, Jason Smith, Tom Austin, David Smith, Wade Woodward, David Burnham, John Stone and Stephen Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Stewart, Bill Johnson, James Huddleston, Barney Lee, Tom Austin and Phil Early.

Mr. Levi Britt of Hampton Place in Newnan died Aug. 2, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Sept. 10, 1955 in Coweta County to Mr. and Mrs. Freddie (Dora) Britt, Sr., Mr. Britt joined Great Mount Zion A.M.E. Church at an early age. He worked for the Hammett Vault Company until his health failed. He was preceded in death by a brother, McKinley.

A funeral was Aug. 6 at Sellers-Smith R.W.S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. B.B. Avery officiating, assisted by pastor A.R. Cooper, evangelist Anita Britt and Rev. Darris Baker. Mrs. Verna S. Cordle, 84, of Newnan died Aug. 5, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Daughter of the late Rollie and Tine Smith, Mrs. Cordle was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point, Miss., a member of the Garden Club, member of the New Century Club and a housewife. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Cordle. Cordle moved to Newnan to be close to her children.

A funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at First Baptist Church in West Point, Miss. with the Rev. Joel Haire officiating.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. Cordle Jr., daughters Jackie Farhan of Ringgold and Brenda Adams of Newnan, and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Linda Miles, 52, of Carrollton died Aug. 6, 1999 at her home.

Born June 27, 1947, Mrs. Miles was the daughter of Ruth Weldon Hendrix and the late James Elder Hendrix. She was a supervisor with Service Master and attended the Tallapoosa Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hendrix, and her father.

A funeral will be Sunday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Ronald Brooks and Rev. Doug Bingham officiating. Pallbearers will be Ronny Muse, Donnie Muse, Wayne Hollis, Sam Cook III, David Frands and Thomas Todd. Burial will follow in the Carroll Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Laura Lumpkin Stephens, 74, of Eaves Drive in Temple died Aug. 7, 1999, in a Rome hospital.

Daughter of George Oscar and Minnie Burns Lumpkin, Mrs. Stephens was born Dec. 9, 1924 in Bartow County. She was a member of the Church of Christ, a former Goodyear employee and seamstress and a homemaker.

A funeral will be Sunday Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Hightower and Rev. Wendell Rush officiating. Burial will follow in Draketown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Stephens, Joshua Wright, Jeremy Fricks, Shane Morgan, Jason Rogers and Ricky Chambers.

Survivors include her husband, Harry E. Stephens of Temple; son Jerry Lee Stephens of Newnan; daughters Patricia Ann Minix of Sharpsburg and Martha Wright of Rome; brother Billy Lumpkin of Euharlee; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Lou Johnson Stevenson

Mrs. Mary Lou Johnson Stevenson of Southfield, Mich. died Aug. 2, 1999 at Providence Hospital.

Born May 28, 1948 in Newnan to the late Willie Paul Johnson and Ella Lou Johnson, Mrs. Stevenson moved to Detroit and married Edward Stevenson, then began her career at Blue Cross Blue Shield as a secretary in the medicine clinic in 1970. She later became director of Southeast Customer Service and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Master of Arts in Human Resources.

A funeral was Aug. 7 at Burns United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gregory William officiating, assisted by evangelists Susie Hudson and Gloristein Arnold. Burial was at Eastview Cemetery with her nephews as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband; son, Edward Terrence Stevenson, Jr.; daughter, Stephanie Rachan Stevenson; sister, Virginia Johnson; brothers, Horace Johnson, Alfred Johnson and Johnnie Johnson; sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
