Beverly Maffett

Beverly Evans Maffett of St. Simons Island passed away peacefully on August 25, 2005. She was the daughter of Virginia Shull and John Francis Evans. Beverly was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and also lived in Atlanta, Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Hartford, Connecticut. For the past 26 years she was a resident of St. Simons Island.

A member of the St. Simons Presbyterian Church and Sea Island Golf Club, Beverly was actively involved for many years with the Cassina Garden Club, the Nine-Hole Golf Group at the Island Club and her church.

Beverly was predeceased by her beloved family members, husband, Norris Maffett; son, David Norris Maffett; and mother, Virginia Shull Evans. She is survived by her children, Baxter Hall Maffett and his wife, Barbara Parutka Maffett of West Hartford, Connecticut, and Lynn Maffett Lewicki and her husband Peter Stephen Lewicki of Mercer Island, Washington; and grandchildren Peter David Lewicki and Lauren Evans Lewicki of Mercer Island, Washington and Bret Norris Maffett and Meredith Evans Maffett of West Hartford, Connecticut.

A memorial service celebrating Beverly's life will be held at St. Simons Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the David Norris Maffett Scholarship Fund, Randolph-Macon College, P.O. Box 5005, Ashland, Virginia 23005.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Boyd

Frances Blue Boyd, 58, of Bruns-wick died August 28, 2005, at her home.

A native and lifelong resident of Bruns-wick, Mrs. Boyd was a 1964 graduate of Glynn Academy and attended Brunswick Junior College. She was a registered nurse at the Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus, for 39 years. Mrs. Boyd was a member of Blythe Island Baptist Church, where she was a member of the John Terris' Adult Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her husband, Billy Ray Boyd of Brunswick; a daughter, Lynn Paseur (Keith) of Brunswick; a son, Mike Boyd (Susan) of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Caity Paseur, Adam Paseur, Jacob Boyd and Zachary Boyd, all of Brunswick; her mother, Elizabeth Blue of Brunswick; five sisters, Joyce Prosser of Savannah, Ga., Marie Sliney of San Diego, Calif., Linda Hasti of St. Louis Park, Minn., Cindy Rigg of Ridgeland, S.C., and Terri Hatfield of Houston, Texas.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blythe Island Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating.

Burial will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carroll Minchew, Dwayne Futch, F.C. Boyd, Michael Boyd, Walter Otto Smith and Dale Bailey.

Honorary pallbearers will be the nursing staff, past and present, of the Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus, and the John Terris' Adult Sunday School Class of Blythe Island Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1040, Brunswick, GA 31520 or Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.

Markus Spikes Sr.

Markus Ashley Spikes Sr., 79, of Brunswick died Monday at the local hospital.

A native of Douglas, Mr. Spikes lived most of his life in Brunswick. He served with the U.S. Army for 24 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean conflict, where he received a Purple Heart, and the Vietnam War, where he received a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. He had worked as a welder with R.E. Thomas Erectors Inc. and as a millwright welder with Carpenters and Millwrights Local 865. Mr. Spikes was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Cletus Pifher presiding.

Burial, with military honors, will follow at Palmetto Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Spikes, Bubba DeLoach, Mike Porter, Jeremy Gibbs, Carl Smith Jr., Bradley Smith, Jack Morris and Julio Lopez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Sharnock, Paul Callaway, Seaborn Storey, Dr. William Grubb, Dr. Duane Moores, Dr. Abram Cheong, the staff of the CCU at the Southeast Georgia Health System, G & G Construction and the employees of Huddle House Highway 341.

The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chapman Funeral Chapel after which the family will receive friends until 8.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Spikes of Brunswick; two sons, Markus A. Spikes Jr. and Timothy Spikes, both of Brunswick; four daughters, Barbara Lopez of San Antonio, Texas, and Cyndie Spikes Williams, Debbie Porter and Susan Morris, all of Brunswick; a brother, Sonny Spikes of Baxley; a sister, Elizabeth Hoag of Brunswick; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Hospice of the Golden Isles or the American Cancer Society.

Kathy Ann Yarbrough Tippets, 35, of Brunswick died Saturday at the Brunswick hospital of Southeast Georgia Health System.

Mrs. Tippets was a native of Portland, Ore., and had been a resident of Brunswick for the past two and a half years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick and employed by the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.

She is survived by her husband, Keith R. Tippets of Brunswick; a son, Kyle Steven Tippets of Brunswick; daughter, Katelyn Ann Tippets of Brunswick; mother and stepfather, Jacque and Ray Taylor of Springfield, Ore.; father and stepmother, Kenneth and Linda Yarbrough of McArthur, Calif.; a sister, Dianna Lynn Alexander of Biloxi, Miss.; a brother, Michael Yarbrough of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; paternal grandfather, Emmett Yarbrough of Silverton, Ore.; maternal grandmother, Patricia Miller of Anaheim, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Brunswick with the Rev. Tim Nobles officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Debra Brewer

Debra Ann Price Brewer, 50, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, after a short illness. Debra was a native of Brunswick and graduated from Brunswick High School. She was also a graduate of Brunswick College and was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching races and shopping on eBay. She was a member of Community Lighthouse Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Brewer of Brunswick; her son and daughter-in-law, Robbie and Mandy Thrower of Brunswick; her parents, James and Maxine Price of Brunswick; a sister and brother-in-law, Jaimi and James Hall of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Justin and Drew Thrower; niece, Tiffany Hall; nephews, Justin Hall and Kevin Hall; and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Community Lighthouse Baptist Church. The Revs. Jack Pickren and Ron Smith will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hall, Justin Hall, Mack Ford Jr., Peter Sparre, Jackie Lockhart, Cory Cross, Cory Geiger and Brian Tyler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Emmett Thrower and Donald Spell.

Interment will be in Palmetto Cemetery.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julie Davis

Julie Ann Tyson Davis, 65, passed away at Hospice of the Golden Isles after a long illness. Julie was admitted to Hospice one day before her passing.

Julie was born in rural Bulloch County, Ga., in 1941, on a small farm outside Statesboro. Julie graduated from Statesboro High School and then earned her bachelor's degree in education from Georgia Southern College. After marrying and moving to Brunswick to pursue a career in the Glynn County school system, Julie went on to complete her master's degree, again from Georgia Southern College. Julie retired from the Glynn County school system in 1996, having taught typing and vocational office training for 30 years, all of which she taught at Glynn Academy. Julie worked under five principals while teaching at Glynn Academy and she loved, admired and respected each of them. They were: Jim Warren, Bill Bennett, Dave Owen, Bill Wood and Jody Barrow.

After retiring, Julie was diagnosed with a rare degenerative frontal lobe brain disorder called PICKS disease. She was cared for during her illness by her husband, George A.T. Davis. Julie outlived her life expectancy by a number of years. Julie and her family were blessed to have had the care and support of the staff at SHARE Speech, Hearing and Rehabilitation.

Julie was the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Edna Brantley Tyson, of Statesboro. Including her parents, Julie was predeceased by a granddaughter, Grace D. Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick with the Revs. Jim Crandall and Tommy McMillan and Dr. John Connell officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Carter, Johnny Cauley, Harry Clark, Derrick Hulsey, Bob Thompson and A.J. Warren.

A private family interment will be held at a later date with Dr. John Connell officiating.

The viewing will be held at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2006.

Along with her husband, Julie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally Davis Warren (A.J.), a son and daughter-in-law, Tyson T. Davis (Brittany Connell Davis); and three grandchildren, Cooper Davis, Marley Davis and Davis Warren. Julie is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Tyson Donaldson (Alvin) of Mineral Bluff, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to SHARE, Speech, Hearing and Rehabilitation.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangments.

Edna Moore

Edna Mae Moore, 58, of Brunswick died Thursday.

Ms. Moore was a native of Brunswick and a 1966 graduate of Risley High School. She was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Ms. Moore was employed by the Glynn County Board of Education in the food service department.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sterling.

Ms. Moore's body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

The procession will leave from 809 R St.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the Harrison/Grant Chapel of R.L. Jones & Sons Funeral Home.

Survivors include her mother, Ethel Stevens Moore of Brunswick; and four brothers, Walter Moore and Lawton Moore, both of Brunswick, Willie Lester Moore Jr. of Manhattan, Kan., and Charlie Moore of Columbia, S.C.

Evelyn Riddle

Evelyn E. Riddle, 76, of Brunswick died Sunday at her residence.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alex Hoffner officiating. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Gunn Sr., Jerry Riddle, Hoarace Shurling, R.B. Upton, Stewart Cutler and Larry Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be F.H. Torkildsen, Carl Torkildsen, Hank Klimp and members of the Threads of Fellowship and the women of WELCA.

Surviving are her husband, William H. Riddle of Brunswick; two daughters, Patricia A. Gunn and Teresa A. Williams, both of Brunswick; two sons, William H. Riddle Jr. and George A. Riddle, both of Brunswick; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Riddle, a homemaker, moved to Brunswick in 1946 from Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a volunteer at the Manna House. Mrs. Riddle was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Threads of Fellowship and the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anthony Copeland

Anthony Oral "Tony" Copeland, 48, of Brunswick entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles after a brief illness.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Father Cletus Pifher and the Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Fountain, Daniel Marshall, Eddie Clark, Rick Mason, Larry Taylor and Gary Goss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles or the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include a sister, Catherine Jones of Brunswick; a brother, David L. Copeland of Brunswick; two nieces, Tonya Fountain of Rincon and Holly Marshall of Brunswick; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A native of Glynn County and lifelong resident of Brunswick, Mr. Copeland was a 1972 graduate of Brunswick High School. He was a country music singer, songwriter and musician. Mr. Copeland was the owner and operator of Budget Painting Co. He attended Christian Renewal Church.

Chapman Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
