A.C. “Shorty” Bailey

CORDELE - Funeral services for A. C. “Shorty” Bailey, 88, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The Rev. Kenneth Murphy and the Rev. Ansley Jordan officiated.

Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music. She accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “One Day At A Time” and “What Will I Leave Behind?”.

Pallbearers were members of the Cordele Fire Department, Chief Eugene Stephens, Capt. Gus Telfair, Capt. Eddie Stubbs, Lt. Coley Britt, and Insp. Frank Bullington, Jr.

Mr. Bailey was laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. He was carried there on one of the Cordele Fire Department’s Fire Units that was in operation during the time he served as Fire Chief.

-- Seaman Recruit Quinton LaRue Ridley, 19, of Cordele, died on Saturday, April 9, 2005 from the Naval Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele. The family will receive friends at the home of 1001 11th Street South in Cordele.

Russ Harris Jones

CORDELE -- Memorial services for Russ Harris Jones, 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Christ Episcopal Church.

Mr. Jones died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his residence.

A native of Crisp County, he was a retired pharmacist and member of Christ Episcopal Church. He volunteered for the Crisp Regional Hospital Auxiliary for many years and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy M. Jones of Cordele; two sons, Dr. Edd Jones of Fitzgerald, and Guy M. Jones of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Nancy J. Dupree of Red Hill, Ala.; a sister, Fran Beamer of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 408 S. First St., Cordele, Ga., 31015 or Crisp Regional Hospice, 906 N. Fifth St., Cordele, Ga., 31015.

Edna Kennedy Ward

ASHBURN -- Funeral services for Edna Kennedy Ward, 79, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. An online registry is available at www.perryfuneralchapel.com. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn had charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ward died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon from injuries sustained in an automobile crash.

Dana Ellen Andrews

ROCHELLE -- Graveside services for Dana Ellen Andrews, 40, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Morningside Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Tillery and Brother Louie Tripp will officiate the services, directed by Frazier & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Andrews died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.

Estelle S. Guy

ASHBURN -- Funeral services for Estele S. Guy, 78, of Ashburn will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2 2004 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Tift County. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Guy passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Perry Funeral Chapel.

Debra Onita Kendrick Adams

UNADILLA -- Funeral services for Debra Onita Kendrick Adams of Unadilla will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the Little Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Byromville. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Montezuma. Rev. Lee Willie Hall will officiate.

Ms. Adams died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at her residence. She attended Dooly County Schools and was previously employed at Lanier Manufacturing Company.

Survivors include her husband, John Adams, a daughter, Onita C. Adams, her mother, Constance Spicer Kendrick, a brother, Johnny Pate Kendrick, Jr (wife, Cynthia) all of Unadilla, a sister, Beverly D. Hunt (husband, David) of Philadelphia, Pa., Mother-in-law, Catherine Lewis of Byromville, and a host of relatives.

The family may be contacted at the residence in Unadilla.

Alexia Shamiyah Merrell

Alexia Shamiyah Merrell, age 6 of Vienna, died Friday, Oct. 29 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Funeral Services will be announced later. J.W. Williams Funeral Directors of Cordele and Vienna are in charge of arrangements.

Catherine R. ‘Katie’ Allen

CORDELE - Catherine R. “Katie” Allen, 72, of Cordele died in Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004.

Born Saturday, March 26, 1932, in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Albert Massey and Jane Isabell O'Neil Massey. Mrs. Allen was a member of Cordele First Baptist Church and was retired as manager of Burger King. She was an Elder of the Chippewa Indian Tribe in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.

Funeral services will be held at Cordele First Baptist Church Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at 3 p.m. and interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Hoover Allen of Cordele; two sons and daughters-in-law, John S. and Monica Allen, and Mark and Nannette Allen of Cordele; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Bobby McGinnis of Cordele; four brothers, Albert Massey of Austin, Texas, Buck Massey of Engadine, Mich., Robert Massey of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Massey of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.; three sisters, Verna Lawrence of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., and Mary Formolo and Evie Heldt both of Naubinway, Mich. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Robert Allen.

The family will receive friends at Rainey Family Funeral Services Inc. today from 7-9 p.m.

John W. Wright

PERRY - John W. Wright, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.

Funeral services wil be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Watson-Hunt Chapel with interment following at Perry Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Wright was the son of the late Jasper and Jurrell (Walls) Wright. He was born in Greene County where he attended school and Walker Methodist Church. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, he worked for the FBI for several years before joining the Georgia State Patrol in 1960. Survivors include his wife, Janette Moon Wright; daughters, Sarah Wright (Glen) Musselwhite of Warner Robins, and Yvonne Wright Williams of Cordele; sons, John Christopher Wright of Greensboro, and Joseph Thomas (Sherry) Wright of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Wendy Musselwhite (Ben) Purvis of Perry, Sarah Elizabeth Williams of Athens, Mary Jeff Williams (Lance) Richards of Cordele, and Cody Wright of Warner Robins; step-children, Walt (Teddie) Lay of Conyers, Terry Lay Murphy of Snellville, and Jimmy Lay of Atlanta; and great-grandchildren, Bristol Purvis of Perry, and Alex Miller of Covington.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Sarah Mullins Wright; and a grandson, Brian Musselwhite.

The family requests donations be made to the donor’s church or favorite charity.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ASHBURN - Funeral services for Vicki Ann Hobbs Donahoo, 49, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, in Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Cindy Renee Wilkinson

CORDELE - Cindy Renee Wilkinson, 36, of Cordele died in Crisp Regional Hospital Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.

She was born Friday, Aug. 16, 1968, in Blountstown, Fla., the daughter of Richard Auther Bishop and the late Marilynn Marie Keel Bishop.

Graveside services will be held at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Crisp County at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004.

She is survived by her husband, William Baker Wilkinson of Cordele; two sons, Nicholas Wilkinson and Zachery Wilkinson both of Cordele; her father, Richard Auther Bishop of Cordele; three step-sons, Billy Wilkinson, Jeffrey Wilkinson and Corbin Wilkinson all of Dearborn Heights, Mich; a step-daughter, Dawn Keen of Cordele; two brothers, Tommy Bishop of Americus, and Ricky Bishop of Cordele; three sisters, Sherry Handley of Cordele, Carol Wade of Warwick, and Terry Millien of Gonzales, La.; her paternal grandmother, Melzena Gordan of Gonzales, La.; and her mother-in-law, Joann Wilkinson of Cordele.

She was preceded in death by her step-son, David Wilkinson; a sister, Linda Gayle Bishop; and her maternal grandmother, Drucella Keel.

Ida Mae Jackson

ROCHELLE - Funeral services for Ida Mae Jackson, 81, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in Piney Grove Baptist Church in Rochelle. Burial will follow in Mt. Air Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Lucas will officiate the services, directed by Ferguson Funeral Home of Rochelle. Visitation will be today at the funeral home.

Ms. Jackson died Monday, Oct. 22, 2004, at her residence.

Alexia Shamiyah Merrell

VIENNA - Funeral services for Alexia Shamiyah Merrell, 6, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in the sanctuary of Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery. Dr. Bobby G. West will officiate the services.

Miss Merrell died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004.

Survivors include her parents, Danielle Martin of Vienna, and Stanley (Nakisha) Merrell Jr. of Montezuma; sisters, Keyonna Harris of Vienna, Destiny Merrell and Sanaa Merrell both of Unadilla; grandparents, Edward Martin of Vienna, Michelle Cornish of Miami, Fla., and Stanley (Betty) Merrell Sr. of Vienna; great-grandparents, Evelyn Tune of Baltimore, Md., R.C. (Sally) Merrell of Lilly, and Addie Adams of Vienna; and a special friend, Brenda Smith of Vienna.

Bessie Watson Clark

CORDELE - Bessie Watson Clark of Cordele died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Beverly Health Care in Tifton.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Seville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral

home.

Mrs. Clark, a native of Wilcox County, was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Dooly County. She was the daughter of the late Julius Jefferson Watson and the late Saluda Estelle Mitchell Watson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Monroe Clark; a brother, Roscoe Watson; and two sisters, Christine Goodwin and Inez Powell.

Survivors include five sons, Otha Clark, Buford Clark and Gary Clark all of Cordele, Loyce Clark of Cobb, and Alton Ted Clark of Vienna; three daughters, Irene Brown and Athalene Wade both of Cordele, and Runean Monroe of Ashburn; a brother, Otha Watson of Demopolis, Ala.; four sisters, Ruby Davis and Mary Burnette both of Cordele, Estelle Bragg of Vienna, and Ethell Thornton of Seville; 25 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Annie Louise Brewer

CORDELE - Annie Louise Brewer, 59, of Cordele died at her residence Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004.

She was born Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1945 in Smithville and was the daughter of the late Earl Stinson and Annie Lou Usry Stinson.

Memorial services will be held in the chapel Of Rainey Funeral Services Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time for the service.

Mrs. Brewer is survived by two sisters, Pat Satterfield of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Earlene Wisemanof Richland; a half-brother, J. W. Hudson of Ellaville, and two half-sisters, Ann Scott and Leslie Hudson, both of Leesburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Brewer.

CORDELE - A memorial service for Woody Woodyard was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. Emory Howell conducted the service, and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Wynelle Adkins, pianist, accompanied the congregation as they sang “Victory In Jesus” and Rev. Howell sang “The Anchor Holds” and “I’m Drinking From My Saucer.” Others taking part in the song service were Faye Newton, “The First Day In Heaven"; Tim Perry, “Please Save My Children", “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “The Lilly In My Valley"; Rev. Howell and Mr. Perry, “There Is A River"; Alazhia Wade, “Master Of The Wind” and “What Happened To Your Hands?"; Just Us, accompanied by Marcine Freeman, pianist, “God Still Answers Prayer", “I’m Free” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd". Remarks were given by Bill Woodyard, Jennifer Sprouse, Opal Hubbard, Carol Perry, Austin Holt, Misty Moore, Wayne Montford and Buddy Hayslip.

The service was closed when Dale Saunders gave the benediction.

Vera C. McKinney

CORDELE - Vera C. McKinney, 75, of Cordele died at her residence Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. She was born Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1929, in Seville and was the daughter of the late Miles McCoy Crumbley and Mattie Mae Dowdy Crumbley. She was the widow of Charles Thomas “Bo” McKinney.

Mrs. McKinney was a homemaker and a life-long member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Susan McKinney and Lonnie and Sandra McKinney, all of Cordele; a brother, Bennett Crumbley of Seville; two sisters, Jean C. Oglesby and Opal C. Warren, both of Cordele; and four grandchildren, Lyle McKinney, Stuart McKinney, Matt McKinney and Zack McKinney. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amanda McKinney; brothers, Robert Lee Crumbley and Joe Crumbley and sisters, Adelle Dupree, Lucille Brewer and Bertha Dalrymple.

Bessie Watson Clark

CORDELE - Funeral services for Bessie Watson Clark were held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home for Bessie Watson Clark. Burial followed in Seville Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Brookshire and the Rev. Lawton Sammons officiated the services.

Mrs. Ruth Cantrell, pianist, provided soft music for the service. She also accompanied Matthew Clark as he sang “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms” and Carol Register as she sang “Beulah Land.”

Pallbearers were Mrs. Clark’s grandsons: Mark Brown, Danny Clark, Allen Clark, Bryan Clark, Michael Clark and Christopher Clark. Mrs. Clark’s other grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.

Russell M. Vaughan

CORDELE - Graveside services for Russell M. Vaughan will be held at Vienna City Cemetery at 3 p.m., today, Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004.

Mr. Vaughan, a native of Dooly County, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Cordele Health & Rehab. He was a retired truck driver and member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife: Lounelle D. Vaughan of Cordele; a son and daughter-in-law: Davis (Teena) Vaughan of Cordele; a sister and brother-in-law: Loette (Elder Huey) Glisson of Wrightsville; a great aunt: Christine Vaughan of Cordele; and two grandsons: Brandon Vaughan and Caleb Vaughan both of Cordele.

George Benjamin Moore

WARWICK - Funeral services for G. B. Moore were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Warwick First Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Moore, the Rev. Deryl Odom and the Rev. Roy Gibbs conducted the service. Soft music was provided by Marilyn Bass, pianist. She also played “How Great Thou Art” and Wilma Smith sang “Sheltered In The Arms of God".

Pallbearers were Dwayne Forehand, Jimmy Freeman, Carlon Porter, Charles Mathis, Joey Swain and Danny Swain. The Rev. Odom conducted the committal service at Warwick Methodist Cemetery.
