Mrs. Versie Hunter Bell of Alexander,
entered into rest Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at Burke Medical Center, Waynesboro.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Joey Grizzle officiating. Interment was in Habersham United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Bell was a lifelong resident of Burke County. She was a member of the Habersham United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bell was retired from Sardis Manufacturing Company. She was the daughter of the late Leslie Hunter and Janie Messex Hunter. Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her daughter, June Loretta Bell. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Matthews Bell Sr. of Alexander; a son, Leroy M. Bell Jr. of Alexander; two daughters, Brenda Britt of Waynesboro and Joyce Bell of Alexander; a brother, Leslie Hunter Jr. of Brunswick; three sisters, Ella Waters of Bruns-wick, Mary Durant of Blythe Island and Irene Hall of Nahunta; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ray Sapp, Herbert Hillis, Charles Hillis, David Clayton, Mark McClain, Josh Blackstone Jr. and Al McClain.

Mrs. Evelyn Wallace Elliott, 87,
of Waynesboro, entered into rest Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at Burke Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Wayne Dixon and Harry Coursey officiating. Interment was in Burke Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Elliott was a lifelong resident of Burke County and a retired bookkeeper and deputy sheriff of Burke County. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. Although Mrs. Elliott had no children of her own she was a mother to many children throughout her life, giving generously her love, time and money. Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Elliott Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were Vernon Elliott, Steve Elliott, Craig Elliott, Ben Faglie, Rusty Broxton, Randy Broxton, Ronnie Broxton and Ernest “Bubba” Quick III. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Quick Jr., Gary Oglesby, Rocky Yelton, Oliver Lively, Terry Brinson, Mack Hickman, Bob Hickman, Cecil Hickman, Raymond Brookins, James Hollingsworth, Johnny Jenkins, Greg Coursey, Dr. Lamar Murray, Bill Hammett, Craig Kennedy, Mike Hood, David Jarvis, Harry Coursey and Nickie Hale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Home, Inc., P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, Ga. 30281-9878.

Mr. Marvin M. Hill, 83,
of Perkins died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.
He was born in Etowah County, Ala. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired aircraft mechanic for Eastern Airlines and a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.
Funeral Services were held 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Magnolia Baptist Church. The Revs. Bill Turner and Richard Daniel officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Survivors include his brother, Clyde Hill of Fairhope, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Carlton Johns, David Chance, Mike Chance, Tommy Chance, Ralph Chance, Carrol Chance and Chris Hill.
Memorials may be made to Magnolia Baptist Church.

Anne Johnston Herrington, age 85,
died on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Liberty Street, Waynes-boro, with the Revs. Lou Scales and Ron Davidson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Magnolia Cemetery.
Anne was born May 1, 1918, the eldest child of James Jesse Johnston and Annie May Tyler Johnston of Waynesboro. She graduated from Waynesboro High School and attended Shorter College in Rome and the University of Georgia. She was active in the insurance business for many years. Anne worked with her husband, E.F. Her-rington, in their accounting business, Herrington Agency, Inc., for over 20 years.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, having served on the Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women (ECW). Anne has volunteered as a Pink Lady at Burke Medical Center for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of American Colonists. She was predeceased by her husband, E.F. Herrington.
Survivors include her two sisters, Vivienne Hambrick of Newnan and Beverly Verdery of Hartwell; two sons, Ed Herrington and his wife, Susan, of Kingsport, Tenn. and Mike Herrington and his wife, Jackie, of Martinez; two daughters, Tyler H. Daniel and her husband, Roland, of St. Simons Island and Kit H. Brinson and her dog, Ridley, of Martinez; seven grandchildren, Mikell and John Herrington, John Paul, Steven and Julie Herrington, John Wallace and Anne Daniel; and one great-grandchild, Genni Herrington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 50, Waynesboro, Ga. 30830.
Friends may call at the residence, 635 South Victory Drive, Waynesboro, today (Wednesday, Oct. 29) from 5-7 p.m.

Malynda Ashley Heath, 15,
entered into rest Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 from injuries received in an automobile accident in Burke County.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 27, at Sardis United Methodist Church, Sardis, with the Revs. Karen Zeigler, Don McClellan, Matt Shryock and Susan Bargeron officiating.
Miss Heath was a lifelong resident of Burke County and a sophomore at Burke County High School, Waynesboro, where she was a member of the French Club and Yearbook Staff and also a member of the Kaye Miller School of Dance. She was a member of Corinth Chrisitian Church, Girard.
Survivors include her parents, Dawn and Jamie Hayman of Girard and Michael and Marjorie Heath of Sardis; three sisters, Amber Heath of Waynesboro, Jordon Hayman and Brooke Hayman, both of Girard; a brother, Chris Heath of Sardis; maternal grandmother, Ernestine Fitzgerald of Sardis and the late Donald Lee Fitzgerald; maternal great-grandmother, Katherine Sellers; paternal grandparents, Bobby and Jean Hayman of Girard, Joyce and Jessie Hudson of Sylvania and the late A.L. and Doris Heath of Sardis; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers were Norbert Tobias, Ed McMillian, Willie Zeigler, Mike Jackson, Steve Reddick and Hubert Reddick. Honorary pallbearers were members of the sophomore class of Burke County High School.

Curtis Joseph Cain Jr., 14,
entered into rest Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 from injuries received in an automobile accident in Burke County. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Sardis Baptist Church, Sardis, with Dr. Bill King officiating.
Mr. Cain was a lifelong resident of Burke County and a freshman at Burke County High School, Waynesboro. He was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church and its youth group. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and quiet walks in the woods. Most of all, Joseph was a young man after God’s own heart. We know that Joseph’s desire would be for everyone to have a saving relationship with his Lord, his love, Jesus Christ. Joseph always had a smile on his face, and we know that his smile is even more radiant in the presence of a Holy God.
Survivors include his parents, Curtis and Nancy Cain of Girard; a sister, Olivia Cain of Girard; two brothers, John Michael Cain and Paul Cain, both of Girard; paternal grandparents, Ollie and Thelma Cain of Augusta; maternal grandparents, Earl and Nancy Dixon of Girard; great-grandmother, Helen Huntley of Augusta; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers were Benjiman Cain, Dusty Cain, Joshua Batcherr, Halver Dixon, Spencer Dixon, Matthew Howard, Marcus Jones, Matt Joyner, Bryan Joyner, Mitchell Warren, Dominique Thomas and Glen Odom.
Memorials may be made to Burkehaven Christian School or Mt. Moriah Campground.

Thomas Gregory (Greg) James Sr., 39,
entered into rest Monday, Nov. 3, 2003 as the result of injuries received in a vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held today, (Wednesday, Nov. 5) at 2 p.m. at Botsford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Interment will follow in the Botsford Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. James is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann James of Waynesboro; two sons, Greg James Jr. of Waynesboro and Chad Posey of Sardis; a daughter, Beth James of Waynesboro; his mother, Myrtie Rogers and husband Wayne of Waynesboro; his father, Thomas James of Waynesboro; two brothers, Donnie Royal and Douglas James, both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Connie Williamson of Savannah and Brenda Edenfield of Waynesboro; and paternal grandmother, Gladys James of Hephzibah.
Active pallbearers will be Duck Thames, DeRossi De-Laigle Jr., Lynn Wilson, Mark Quick, Derrick Liles and Jodi Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Williams, Todd Edenfield, Raymond Edenfield, Bob Quick, Josh Quick and Lonnie Baxley. Pallbearers are asked to assemble today at the funeral home by 1 p.m. Friends may call at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home today (Wednesday) from noon to 1:15 p.m.

Mrs. Josie B. Richardson, 49, of Waynesboro

entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Burke Medical Center.
Homegoing services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Mrs. Richardson was a lifelong resident of Burke County and a member of Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for many years and held the position of church secretary. She was employed with Burke Medical Center for 20 years until her illness. She was a member of Zion Chapter No. 42 Order of Eastern Star where she served as secretary and also adviser to the Pearl Hankerson Youth Society until her health began to fail. Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her brother, Orren Neal Evans.

Survivors include her husband, Paul F. Richardson; her parents, Annie and Johnnie C. Evans of Waynesboro; a daughter, Shamika Richardson Chance of Augusta; a son-in-law, Detric Chance of Augusta; a mother-in-law, Mildred Richardson of Charleston, S.C.; five sisters, Sarah Crenshaw of Hopewell, Va., Shirley (Sammy) Walden and Nona (Lester) Law, all of Jacksonsville, Fla., Christine (Billy) Morgan of Stone Mountain and Carolyn (Glenn) Arnold of Decatur; and three brothers, Johnnie J. (Angie) Evans and George (Evelyn) Evans, all of Augusta, and Herman (Minerva) Evans of Savannah. She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces and nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.

Mr. Orner L. Walker Sr.

entered into rest Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Burke Medical Center. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Allen Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.E. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. His loving memories will be forever cherished by his wife, Lillian Walker of Waynesboro; and children, grandchildren, sisters and other relatives.

Mrs. Mariah Givens

entered into rest Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Burke Medical Center.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at Second McCanaan Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Patterson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She will be forever cherished by a loving and devoted family.

Mrs. Cora Catherine (Perry) Norton, 84, of Sardis

entered into rest Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at Keysville Nursing Convalescent Center.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Sardis Baptist Church, with Dr. Bill King officiating. Burial followed in Sardis Cemetery.
Mrs. Norton was a native of Sardis where she graduated from Sardis High School. She was the daughter of the late George Perry and Cora Long. Mrs. Norton was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BS degree in home economics. She was retired from the Georgia Agricultural Extension Service as a home economist in Hazel-hurst and Cuthbert, Ga. She was an active member and teacher of Homemakers Sunday School Class of Sardis Baptist Church, which she had a great love and appreciation for, and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her husband Ted Norton; stepson, Jimmy Norton; brothers, George E. Perry and Charles H. Perry; and sister, Bernice Davis.
Survivors include two stepsons, Howard (Lucille) Norton of Waycross and Gary (Gloria) Norton of Savannah; two brothers, Paul H. (Doris) Perry of Claxton and William R. (Fran) Perry of Columbia, S.C.; and a step-grandson, Jeremy Norton.
Pallbearers were nephews, Billy Perry, Bert Sorin, Ryan Cummins and Jordan Patrick; step-grandson Jeremy Norton; and friend Mike Chandler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sardis Baptist Church.
