Lula Mae Thompson Walker

CORDELE - Funeral services for Lula Mae Thompson Walker will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Shady Grove Baptist Church, Cordele. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. L.D. Cobb will officiate the services.

Mrs. Walker died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in an Orlando, Fla., hospital.

Born in Dooly County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Emma Smith Thompson. She attended Dooly County Schools and was the widow of the late Willie Walker. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where she served on the mission and mother boards. She was a homemaker and a domestic worker.

Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The body will be placed in the church at 12 p.m.

W. Pauline Edwards

MACON - W. Pauline Edwards, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services, Cordele. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele. The Rev. Billy Forrest will officiate the services.

She was born in Cordele, the daughter of the late Calvin Ambers Powell and Lola Connell Powell. She was the wife of the late Frank Edwards and had lived in Macon since 1946. She had worked at Saratoga Restaurant and at LenBergs and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Faur of Omaha, Neb.; her son, William Carl Gordon Jr. of Gray; her sister, Lola Mae Mathis of Cordele; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, Macon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 6611 Zebulon Road, Macon, Ga., 31210.

Howard Earl Fix

BLAIRSVILLE - Memorial services for Howard Earl Fix, 77, of Garrett Road, Blairsville were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cline and the Rev. Brian Horton officiating.

Frix died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville had charge of the arrangements.

Nubie B. Davis

VIENNA - Funeral services for Nubie B. Davis, 99, of Vienna were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Pinehurst Baptist Church with burial following in Pinehurst City Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in a local hospital.

-- Anthony West, Sr., 78, of 502 West 19th Ave. Cordele died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at Crisp Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by J.W. Williams Funeral Directors of Cordele & Vienna.

Dennis L. Warren

ROCHELLE - Funeral services for Dennis L. Warren, 63, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 23, 2004, in Pope City Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pope City Cemetery. The Revs. Danny Allen and Chuck Taylor will officiate the services, directed by Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle.

Mr. Warren died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

Howard Earl Frix

Louise M. Pate

ARABI - Louise M. Pate, 76, of Arabi died at her residence Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004.

Born Wednesday, May 23, 1928, in Cordele, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Musselwhite and Clara Whiddon Musselwhite. Mrs. Pate was a homemaker and a member of Arabi Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 23, 2004, at Arabi Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Geoffrey Pate Sr. of Arabi; her children, Shirley Burke of Jacksonville, Fla., Johnny Pate and wife, Nancy of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandra Odom and husband, Jimmy of Arabi, Roy Pate and wife, Lynn of Pitts, and Ricky Pate Sr. of Arabi; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Pate of Arabi; sisters, Bessie Lee Howell of Warner Robins, and Joyce McNair of Ashburn; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Geoffrey Pate Jr., and her twin sister, Elease Horne.

Parker, Willie J. Parker, Curtis Parker, Johnny L. Parker and George Paul all of Cordele, and Elder Ivory (Rosa) Parker of Ashburn; nieces, Sheneese (Deacon Sammy) McGill and Georgia Mae Waters both of Cordele; cousins, Lillie P. Wilson, J.C. Stokes and family and L.J. Stokes and family; and special friends, Gerald Floyd, Gladys Foster, Charles Owens, Clemmie Gaston, Rufus Foster, Nathaniel Haugabrook, Timothy Bridges, Buford Royal Sr., Pearl Booker and Evelyn Lewis.

Henry Woodrum

OCILLA - Funeral services for Henry Woodrum, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Holt Baptist Church in Irwin County. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. David Biggers and J.A. Clements will officiate the services.

Mr. Woodrum died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Tift Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 22, 1923, in Turner County, he was the son of the late Lonnie M. and Mary Arnold Woodrum. He was a retired carpenter, a member of Holt Baptist Church and a Mason. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Wright of Cordele, and Renee Taylor of Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren, Hugh Taylor, Wesley Taylor, Jamie, Julie, Katelyn, Lindsey, Hershel and Candy Tapp; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Zack, Josh and Jake Taylor; a special friend, Kay Tapp of Ocilla; three sisters, Laura Hampton and Mabel White both of Macon, and Estelle Barrentine of Bonaire; a brother, Milton Woodrum Jr. of Eatonton; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Melton Woodrum.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Julian L. Sanders

UNADILLA - Funeral services for Julian L. Sanders, 87, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 24, 2004, in Harmony Baptist Church with burial to follow in Harmony-Smyrna Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at his residence.

Born in Dooly County, he was the son of the late Noah Freeman Sanders and Willie Alsobrook Sanders. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a farmer. Mr. Sanders was a member of Smyrna Independent Methodist Church where he was a Steward. He attended Harmony Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Freeman Sanders.

Survivors include his wife, Doris P. Sanders of Unadilla; a daughter, Linda (Gloy) Hobbs of Vienna; sons, Wayne (Linda) Sanders and Joe Sanders of Unadilla; sisters, Bertha Lindsey of Unadilla, and Martha Evans of Dublin; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

L.O. ‘Hob’ Peebles Sr.

PITTS - Funeral services for L.O. “Hob” Peebles Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 24, 2004, at Pitts Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Pitts Cemetery. The Revs. Jack Dowdy and Royce Freeman will officiate the services.

Mr. Peebles died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at his residence.

Born July 4, 1920, in Wilcox County, he was the son of the late Clyde Lyston Peebles and Floy Osborne Peebles. He was a farmer and member of the Pitts Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190 F&AM and was former director of Colony Bank. He also was a former mayor of Pitts and a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Peebles of Pitts; two sons, Pete (Kay) Peebles of Pitts, and Furman (Maxine) Peebles of Rochelle; a daughter, Tena Peebles of Douglasville; a sister, Sarah P. Royal of Ashburn; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Samuel Ulysses Collins

CORDELE - Samuel Ulysses Collins, 79, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004.

He was born Saturday, Nov. 7, 1925, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Collins and Mary Edna Smith Collins.

Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at 11a.m.

He is survived by a brother, James Henry Collins of Cumming; a sister, Sadie Pitts of Tifton; nephews, Terry Wadford of Cordele, Jim Collins of Hickory, N.C., and John Collins and Joe Collins both of Cumming; nieces, Debra West and Ann Collins both of Cumming.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. until time for the service.

Johnnie Lee Bryant

PINEHURST - Funeral services for Johnnie Lee Bryant Sr., 80, of Jacksonville, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Pinehurst. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The Rev. J.C. Baker will officiate.

Mr. Bryant died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was a decorated World War II Army veteran and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Willene Breedlove-Bryant of Cordele; a son, Johnnie Bryant Jr. (Rev. Antonia Jones-Bryant) of Vallejo, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

He was born Saturday, Nov. 7, 1925, and was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Collins and Mary Edna Smith Collins.

Mr. Collins was a retired farmer and a faithful Christian of the Baptist faith.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Arabi Cemetery.

He is survived by a brother, James Henry Collins of Cumming; a sister, Sadie Pitts of Tifton; nephews, Terry Wadford of Cordele, Jim Collins of Hickory, N.C., and John Collins and Joe Collins, both of Cumming; nieces Debra West and Ann Collins, both of Cumming.
