Dewey F. Callahan
Dewey F. Callahan of Atlanta passed away Dec. 17, 2000 in a Smyrna
hospital.
Mr. Callahan was born and raised in Pickens County. He was the son
of Robert and Ethel Callahan and a member of Sunlight Baptist Church in
Ellijay.
Survivors include his wife, Tris Callahan; two sons, Buddy Callahan
and Robert Willaughy of Cumming; one daughter, Anna G. Treham of Austell;
one brother, Rev. Jewell Callahan of Tate. Eleven grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Dec. 19 from Castellou Funeral Home
with the Rev. Frank Jenkins officiating. Interment was in Riverview
Memorial Park Cemetery in Smyrna.

Sid Boling
Mr. Sid Boling, age 38 of Jasper, passed away in a Marietta
hospital Tuesday evening, Dec. 26 as the result of a tree-cutting accident
in Jasper Nov. 29.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Ray Boling; sons, Chris and Jacob
Boling, all of Tate; father, Cicero Boling, Jasper; mother, Carolyn Wilson,
Cartersville; grandmother, Ruthelle Hamby, Cedar Bluff, Al.; sisters,
Annette Carroll, Jasper, Joyce Dixon and Jeannette Beaver, both of
Cartersville; brothers, Jimmy Boling, Acworth, and John Wilson, Marietta.
The funeral service was held Friday morning from the Chapel of
Chapman Funeral Home in Jasper with the Revs. Parker Benson and D.J. Free
officiating. Burial was in Lake Forest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were:
Carlton and Gary Pendley, T.O. Carroll, Jeff Tilley, Tony Jones and Larry
Beaver.

Blanche Keffer
Miss Blanche G. Keffer, age 97 of Jasper, passed away at a local
nursing center Wednesday morning, Dec. 27, 2000 following a lengthy illness.
Survivors are one sister, Dolly Kelley, Jasper; and several nieces
and nephews including Ed and Ruthann Friedrichs of Bent Tree.
Miss Keffer was taken to Charleston, W.V. for entombment in
Cunningham Memorial Park Friday afternoon.
Local arrangements were entrusted to Chapman Funeral Home, Jasper.

Thomas J. Lewis Jr.
Mr. Thomas Johnston Lewis Jr. of Jasper passed away Dec. 24, 2000
at Mountainside Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Atlanta
in 1923, Mr. Lewis was a practicing attorney in Atlanta for over 30 years.
He was a veteran of WW II, having enlisted and served in the USAF
flying 24 missions with the 99th bomber group in Italy. Following his
retirement in 1980, Tom and wife Anne moved to the Bent Tree community in
Jasper.
Survivors include one son, Tom J. Lewis III of Jasper; daughter,
Elizabeth Clark, Roseburg, Or.; sister, Mary Pond, Duncanville, Tx. Six
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
There were private services for the family. In lieu of flowers Mr.
Lewis requested that donations be directed to the American Cancer Society,
the Salvation Army or the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in
Jasper, which may be contacted through the Episcopal Church of the Holy
Family in Jasper.

Joyce Ferguson
Joyce Ellen Ferguson, age 44 of Fairmount, passed away Monday, Dec.
25, 2000 at her home.
Mrs. Ferguson was born April 21, 1956 in Henderson, Tn. to Ronnie
Lee and Sue Ann Harrison Ulrey. She was employed by First Insurance Network
in Smyrna and was a member of the Calhoun Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Stuart Ferguson, Fairmount;
sons, Jeremy and Timothy Ferguson, both of Fairmount; parents, Ronnie Lee
and Sue Ann Ulrey, Calhoun; sister, Deborah Sue Anderson, Monticello;
brothers, Mike and Mark Ulrey, both of Chattanooga, and David Ulrey,
Ashland City, Tn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 from the
Calhoun Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers the family requests
contributions be made to the Brain Tumor Society at 124 Watertown Street,
Ste. 3H, Watertown, Ma. 02474.
Taylor Funeral Home, Fairmount Chapel, was in charge of the
arrangements.

Vino Dean
Miss Vino Mae Dean, age 89 of Jasper, passed away at a local
hospital Saturday morning, Dec. 23, 2000 following a lengthy illness.
Survivors include her sister, Miss Veneda Dean, Cartersville; and
several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon from the Chapel of
Chapman Funeral Home in Jasper with the Revs. Horace Long and Terry Dean
officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were:
Tommy Coleman, Scron Dean, David Young, Jerry and Donald Mathews and
Randall Morgan.

Homer Young
Mr. Homer Ernest Young, age 72 of Fairmount, passed away Saturday
morning, Dec. 30, 2000 at his residence following several years of
declining health.
Mr. Young was born on May 14, 1928 in Pickens County, son of the
late Alonzo and Elizabeth "Lilear" Mulkey Young. He was a retired employee
of the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of East
Damascus Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Odell Young, to whom he was married for
55 years; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and George Wilson of
Calhoun and Frances and Travis Pack of Ranger; three sons, Tex and Steve
Young, both of Fairmount, Berley and Glenda Young of Ludville; one brother,
Lloyd and Rosalee Young of Ludville. Eleven grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Friendship
Baptist Church at Ludville with the Revs. David Temples and Bobby Timms
officiating. Pallbearers were: Ricky Crump, Eric Childers, Johnny Young,
Kevin Choats, Gerald Thomas and Lloyd Mulkey. Interment followed in the
church cemetery.
Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun was in charge of the
arrangements.

Helen Godfrey
Mrs. Helen Louise Hyde Godfrey, age 76 of Jasper, passed away
unexpectedly at her home Saturday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2000. She was the
widow of Mr. Herman J. Godfrey.
Mrs. Godfrey was born in Pickens County, daughter of the late J.L.
(Len) and Mattie Lou Aaron Hyde. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy and Diane Godfrey, Jasper; and
granddaughter, Michelle Godfrey, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also
survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon from Town Creek
Baptist Church with the Revs. Horace Biddy and Clyde Brock officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ricky, Roger and
Ronald Godfrey, Richard Thurman, James and Bobby DeLay.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapman Funeral Home, Jasper.

Iretta Ingram
Mrs. Iretta Ingram, age 85 of Ball Ground, passed away Friday, Dec.
29, 2000 at Woodstock Nursing Home.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Harold
Darden, Colorado Springs, Co.; and two grandchildren, Dawn and Scott Darden.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31 from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Wigington officiating.
Interment followed in Ball Ground City Cemetery. The following served as
pallbearers: Frank Darden, Charlie Mullis, Glenn and Blake Densmore.

Frank Morabito
Mr. Frank Morabito, age 60 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26,
2000 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Morabito, Jasper; one daughter,
Audra Morabito, Lawrenceville; and three brothers, Tom, Tony and Nick
Morabito, all of Michigan. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29 from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Dr. Terry Fields officiating. Interment
followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family did accept flowers but
prefer donations to the Cancer Society. Pallbearers were: Bob McCary,
Clarence McMillian, Tommy and Frankie Morabito, Harold Eidson and Eric
Nahodil.

Effie Taylor
Mrs. Effie Taylor, age 76 of Sweetwater, Tn., formerly of
Madisonville, Tn., passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at Sweetwater
Hospital.
She is survived by one son, Mark Taylor, Madisonville, Tn.; three
daughters, Mary Gibson, Cleveland, Tn., Kathy McKee, Benton, Tn., and Dot
Miller, Madisonville, Tn. Ten grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1 from Town
Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Self officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery. The following served as pallbearers:
Luther Walton, Jason and Danny Taylor, Joey and Stevie Miller and Fred
Evans.
Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy Roper
Nancy Bruce Roper, age 54 of Jasper, passed early Friday morning,
March 30, 2001 at her residence.
Survivors are her husband, Butch Roper, Jasper; daughter and
son-in-law, Denise and Mark Mulkey, Jasper; brothers, Coleman Bruce,
Jasper, and Billy Jack Bruce, Dalton; sisters, Peggy Lowe, Tate, Georgia
Stansel, Canton, and Colleen Roberts, Jasper.
The funeral service was held Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Corey Rich officiating.
Interment followed in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Jackie and Bradley
Bruce, Jeff Roberts, Jeff Stansel, Greg Lowe, Dan Johnson and Tommy Fowler
serving as pallbearers.

Cleatus L. Hight
Taylor Funeral Home, Fairmount Chapel, announces the death of
Cleatus Leburn Hight, age 86 of Fairmount, who died Thursday morning, April
4, 2001 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome.
Mr. Hight was born March 3, 1915 in Christian County, Ky. to the
late Mr. and Mrs. Leburn and Virgie Jenkins Hight. He was a US Army Air
Corp veteran serving with the 497th bomb squadron in World War II as an
engineer tail gunner on B26 Medium Bomber flying in 65 missions and
received five Battle Stars and an air medal with 11 oak leaf clusters. He
retired after many years of service from American Freight Company as a
truck driver. Mr. Hight was a member of Morning Star Lodges 349 F&AM in
Fairmount, also a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Fairmount
First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sue Hight of Fairmount; three
daughters, Angie and Vickie Hight and Gloria Todd and her husband Byron,
all of Douglasville; one granddaughter, Jennifer Todd of Douglasville; two
sisters, Fairis Springer of Nashville, Tn. and Nevada Fry and husband Burt
of Dayton, Oh.
The funeral service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Taylor
Funeral Home, Fairmount Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Keith officiating.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Central Standard Time Monday at the
Ridge Top Cemetery in Crofton, Ky.

Thomas E. Burnette
Mr. Thomas Emanuel Burnette, age 69, passed away April 5, 2001 at
Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta.
He was born Sept. 8, 1931 in Nashville, Ga. (Berrien), the son of
the late Renee Lefur and Horace Clinton Burnette. Mr. Burnette was a radio
DJ, television announcer, policeman, fireman and a school bus driver. He
was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the Army and Air Force.
Survivors include his former wife, Sandra J. Bonnett of Loganville;
sons, Thomas E. Jr. and Stephen D. Burnette, both of Jasper; daughters,
Candace Reaid of Acworth; brothers, Marshall J. Burnette, Tampa, Fl.,
Horace C. Burnette Jr., Coolidge, Ga., and Dewitt R. Burnette of Norman
Park; sister, Joan Burnette Harrell of Camilla, Ga. Five grandchildren also
survive, Jessica, Cherie, Ashley and Andrew Burnette and Michael Reaid.
The funeral service was held Sunday, April 8 at 4 p.m. from Cobb
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.F. Moak officiating. Interment was in Deep
Bottom Cemetery, Norman Park. Pallbearers were: Mike Mixon, Joe, Dewitt,
Tim, Marc and Chris Burnette.

Alice Grizzle
Mrs. Alice Allene Grizzle, age 73 of Dahlonega, passed away
Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Gold City Community Living Center in
Dahlonega following an extended illness.
Mrs. Grizzle was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County,
retired dietitian at North Georgia College and State University and was a
member of Siloam Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. She was the daughter of
the late George and Alice Grant Buffington and was also preceded in death
by her first husband, O.G. Seabolt; son, Grady Seabolt; stepsons, J.S.
Seabolt and James Grizzle; and a sister, Grace McLean.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Grizzle, Dahlonega; daughters
and sons-in-law, Shirley and Freddy Welch and Carol and Michael Anderson,
all of Dahlonega; stepsons and wives, Kenneth and Ann Seabolt, Dahlonega,
and Judy and Olin Jackson, Marietta; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and
Sarah Buffington, Griffin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise Anderson,
Ellen and Benny Shirey, Frances and Henry Smith and Myrtle and James
Gilbert, all of Griffin, and Mary Higgins, Jasper; grandchildren, Chris and
Jeanne Welch, Freida and Mike Bafile and Anita Anderson;
great-grandchildren, Evan Bafile. Several step-grandchildren,
step-great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 9 from the Siloam
Baptist Church in Lumpkin County with the Revs. Dean Bryant and Terry
Fields officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of
flowers the family request donations be made to Young at Heart c/o Joan
Falcone, 596 John Walker Rd., Dahlonega, Ga. 30533.
Banister Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
