Lloyd Easley
Mr. Lloyd B. Easley, age 72 of Mt. Pisgah Road, Talking Rock, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Easley was born Jan. 13, 1930 in Gilmer County, the son of Ernest Easley and Myrtle Crump Easley. He was a former employee of Whitestone, Georgia Marble, retired truck driver and a veteran serving with the US Army in Korea. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Easley also entertained at many benefit shows and performed for the residents at the former Pickens General Nursing Home, now known as Mountainside Nursing Home. Music was a talent that he was fond of sharing with others.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Logan Easley; children, Fred, Terry and Katherine Easley, Cathy and Mike Thomason and Carolyn and Garry Nealey, all of Talking Rock; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; mother, Myrtle Easley, Tenga, Ga.; sisters, Ruth Richards, Ellijay, and Louise Nix, Tenga; brother, Alvin Easley, Resaca.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Revs. Wallace Parks and Willie Young officiating. Music was provided by Selina Fields and Elaine Carver. Pallbearers were: grandsons, Doug Nealey, Chris and Dylan Thomason, Adam Easley, Derrek Towe, Kevin Baggett and David Hancock. Interment was in Yukon Cemetery.

Ralph Gowens
Mr. Ralph Harry Gowens, age 53 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at Gordon Hospital following a sudden illness.
Mr. Gowens was born Dec. 3, 1948 in Piedmont, Al., son of the late Herman and Louella Cook Gowens. He was employed as a welder with Cherokee Muffler #2 and was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Gowens, and a sister, Constance Gowens. Mr. Gowens was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Anne Bolden Gowens of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Gowens of Calhoun and Edward and Bridget Young of Canton; two stepsons, Keith Ridgley Vincent Jr. of Gilmer County and Kevin Blakley Vincent with the US Army; brother, Larry Gowens of Calhoun; grandchildren, Annelis Jaid and Tara Nichole Gowens. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 4 at noon from the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Timothy Gowens and Rev. Larry Towe officiating. Singing was arranged by the Gowens Sisters. Interment was in Goshen Cemetery in Piedmont, Al. Active pallbearers were: Roger, Roy and Tim Lyles, Chad Lau, Jimmy Rhodes, Kevin Jr. and Keith Vincent and Gary Moore.

James McGillis
James B. McGillis, age 74 of Marietta, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002.
Mr. McGillis was a structural engineer until his retirement. He served in both the US Army and Air Force obtaining the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was a Georgia Tech graduate and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cochran McGillis of Marietta; son, James E. McGillis of Marietta; daughter, Kathy Ann McGillis of New Orleans, La.; brother, Mickey McGillis of Memphis, Tn. One granddaughter also survives.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna with Chaplain Greg Pocock officiating. Burial was in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pat Galluzzo
Mr. Pat J. Galluzzo, age 82 of Monterey Park, Ca., passed away Sept. 28, 2002 in California. He was a veteran of WW II in Egypt and a skilled electrician in his working life.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Keeter Galluzzo of California; one sister, Catherine Galluzzo Smith, Charlestown, N.H.; one nephew, James Galluzzo, Gorham, N.H.; one niece, Pauline Cadaret, Margate, Fl. Other nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held on Oct. 6 in the Keeter Family Cemetery with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Tommy Bunch, Larry Burgess, Roy Collis, Tracy Forrest, Randy Lacy and Freddie Ray.

Mike Mundy
Mr. Mike Mundy, age 52 of Twin Mountain Lake Road, Talking Rock, passed away Sept. 27, 2002 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Mundy of Talking Rock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Rhonda Mundy, Marble Hill, and Chris and Kim Mundy, Kinglsey, Pa.; one brother, Joe Mundy, Priest River, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Lennon and Johnny Mundy.
The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church in Pickens County with the Revs. Moss Fountain, Neil McKenzie and Ron Rucker officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Barry, Tracy and Chris Mundy, Sam Stancil, Lionel Alexander and Ron Cochran.

Reta Stancil
Mrs. Reta Stancil, age 71 of Yellow Creek Community, Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Broughton Stancil, Yellow Creek; one son, Mark Stancil, Yellow Creek; three daughters, Susan Roper and Ann Reagan, both of Yellow Creek, and Dawn Hopkins, Ball Ground. Twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Elmer Stowe and Danny Hyatt officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton. The following served as pallbearers: Tony, Max and Guy Stancil Jr., Richard and William Haithcock and Steve Tippens. The family will accept flowers or donations to In-Home Hospice.

Roy Floyd Jr.
Mr. Roy Floyd Jr., age 76 of Woodbine, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at Golden Isle Hospice in Brunswick, Ga. He was a veteran of WW II, a Mason, Shriner, a member of Habitat for Humanity and on the Board of Directors of Camden County.
Survivors include his son, Terry K. Floyd, Woodbine; brother, Terry L. Floyd; sisters, Anne Stanfield, Jasper, and Jackie McGee; grandchildren, Nathan Tyre Floyd and Catherine Lindsey Floyd.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Gordon Allen
Mr. Gordon Ernest Allen, age 91 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Dossie Mae Allen of Talking Rock; one son, Kenneth Allen of Talking Rock; and one grandson, Gregory Scott Allen.
The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 7 from County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lorene Cantrell
Mrs. Lorene S. Cantrell, age 60 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe E. Stamey and Myrtle Stamey Poole; sisters, Helen Stamey and Ruby Heard; and brother, Clay Stamey.
Survivors include her husband, William H. Cantrell; daughters and sons-in-law, Willene and Ronnie Morris and Wanda and Darrell Morris, all of Jasper; mother-in-law, Bonnie Cantrell of Jasper; brothers, Paul Stamey of Alpharetta and Howard and Hollis Stamey, both of Jasper; sisters, Lona Buchanan of Marble Hill, Louise Sims and Ruth Ware, both of Jasper; grandchildren, Matthew and Miranda West and Michael and Kevin Morris, all of Jasper; step-grandchildren, Chad and Amanda Morris of Nelson and Darrin Morris of Jasper; step-great-grandchild, Ethan Morris; special niece, Regina Banks of Ellijay; and special nephew, Richard Heard of Ball Ground.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 from Sharptop Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Johnson, Edwin Weaver, Buck Parker and Bobbie Seager officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jane Theiss
Mrs. Jane Theiss, age 47 of Jasper, passed away on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center. Mrs. Theiss was a day manager of JP Market and she was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Potter of Jasper; sons, James Theiss of Jasper, Justin Potter of Canton and Blake Potter of Columbus, Ga.; daughters, Jessica Theiss of Waleska, Jennifer Theiss Edmondson of Canton and Shawna Potter of Jasper; brother, Charles Puglisi of Florida; sisters, Mary Ann Casano and Michele Borgesano, both of New York and Kathleen Lamberti and Deborah Tramontano, both of Florida. Three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Joey Phillips and Larry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Walter Moore
Walter Alvin Moore, age 87 of Grandview Nursing Care Center, Jasper, and formerly from Vale, N.C., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Mountainside Hospital.
Mr. Moore was born April 12, 1915 in Burke County and was the son of the late Joseph and Barbara Cook Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He worked at Hickory Furniture, Burlington and Klopman Mills. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening and going to the mountains. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a member of the church council for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Goodman and husband Al of Big Canoe; grandson, Todd Earley and wife Laura of Buford; great-grandson, Jackson Earley of Buford; three sisters, Virgie Cook, Ann Stewart and Alma Moore, all of Morganton, N.C.; two brothers, Paul and Conley Moore, both of Morganton.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. from Grace Lutheran Church, Hickory-Lincolnton Highway, with the Revs. Luther Knauff and Gene Bruce officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Library Fund, 4536 Hickory-Lincolnton Hwy., Newton, N.C. 28658. The funeral arrangement were made by Burke Mortuary, Maiden, N.C.

Danny Buttrum
Mr. Danny Christopher Buttrum, age 52 of Jasper, passed away at Mountainside Medical Center on Sept. 19, 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Buttrum, Jasper; mother, Mae Buttrum, Talking Rock; sons, Darrell Buttrum, Jasper, and Bobby Buttrum and David Boling; one brother, J.M. Buttrum; four sisters, Sue Cansler and Teresa Blalock, Calhoun, Marjorie Childers, Hinton, and Jennie Hamrick. Four grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Buttrum, and two sisters, Carolyn Thomason and Sharon Rampley.
The funeral service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Herman Mulkey and Hollis Crook officiating. Interment was in Bethel Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Terry and Teddy Buttrum, Walter Gravley, Roger Mulkey, Chris Stone and Tony Childers.

Lois Cavender
Mrs. Lois Cavender, age 67 of Ball Ground, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at her residence. She was a homemaker and member of Sharp Mountain Baptist Church
Survivors include her husband, James H. Cavender of Ball Ground; sons, David Cavender of Ball Ground and Kenneth Cavender of Cumming; daughter, Annette Cavender of Ball Ground; brothers, Marvin and Glenn Cheshire, both of Ball Ground; sister, Katherine Bowen of Roswell. Two grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the Sharp Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.

Margaret Widuch
Margaret J. (Peggy Dorsett) Widuch, age 61 of Oak Lawn, Il., formerly of Osceola, In., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2002 at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
Peggy was born on July 20, 1941 in Osceola to the late Louis E. and Gladys L. Hendricks Dorsett. On August 15, 1965 she married James P. Widuch and was his beloved wife for 37 years.
Other survivors include brothers and sisters, Carl and Hope Dorsett of French Lick, In., Patty Baker of Elkhart, In., Hazel Thurman of Jasper, Ga., Helen and David Bauman of Mishawake, In., Linda and Byron Bovee of Stroh, In. and Judi and John Frenzel of Santee, Ca. Also surviving are 19 nieces and nephews, 31 great-nieces and nephews, 20 great-great-nieces and nephews; step-mother; and step-sisters.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 from Palmer Funeral Home, Osceola, with the Rev. Carl Baker officiating. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Anna McGhee
Ms. Anna “Jane” McGhee, age 72 of Jasper, passed away Thursday morning at Mountainside Medical Center.
She is survived by her brother, Billy McGhee of Ellijay; sisters, Janice Stancil and Sue Payne, both of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Shaw McGhee and Estie McArthur McGhee; brothers, Sammy and Jimmy McGhee; sister, Diane Towery. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 from Whitestone Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Miranda Lester, Robin Mitchell, Renea Cantrell, Lorrie Bazzell, Melissa Faucett, Wendy Cantrell and Shirley Taylor.Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Leonard Cluley
Mr. Leonard Eugene Cluley, age 62 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Cluley, Jasper; sons, Sean Cluley, Jasper, and Trent Cluley, Alpharetta; daughter, Karn Cluley, Jasper; sisters, Patricia Schwulst, South Africa, and Iris White, Canada; one granddaughter, Aisling Cluley, Alpharetta.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Monday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.

Bowen Qualls
Mr. Bowen B. Qualls, age 80 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 after being involved in an auto accident on Sept. 1 in Jasper. Mr. Qualls owned and operated Bowen’s Department Store for many years. He was a veteran of WW II where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Qualls was predeceased by his wife, Lona Faye Brock Qualls.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Alice Qualls, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Larry Fountain, Jasper; brothers, Paul Qualls, Jasper, and Ray Qualls, Marble Hill; sisters, Ola Ayers, Cartersville, and Faye Jackson, Warner Robins. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Monday from Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Allen, Marvin Chatham, Buddy Roper and Nathan Smith officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of graveside rites. The following served as pallbearers: Chris Plumbley, Paul Worbington, Thomas Fountain, Bo Qualls, Greg Parks and Jeremy Cochran. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
