Paula Puckett
Miss Paula Lynn Puckett, age 20 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, May
8, 2006 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. Visitation began
after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10 at Roper Funeral Home.
Miss Puckett is survived by her parents, Melvin and Terri Puckett of
Jasper; grandparents, Jack and Ann Collins, Kathryn Puckett of Jasper and
the late Donald Puckett; great-grandmother, Evelyn Parker; sisters, Billie
Jo Cochran and Corie Hightower, both of Jasper; nieces, Macy Evans, Kirsteen
Hightower and Terri Sioux Cochran; and nephew, Cawl Cochran.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 11 from the
Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial
Gardens in Jasper with the Rev. Danny Townsend officiating.

Hubert Ledbetter
Hubert “Pete” Ledbetter, age 75 of Dawsonville, passed away Saturday, May
6, 2006 at his residence following a sudden illness.
A lifelong resident of Dawson County, Mr. Ledbetter was a retired
security officer and served a period of time as sheriff of Dawson County. He
was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his
parents, Farrish and Mae Ledbetter, and a brother, G.W. Ledbetter.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marcelle Gilreath Ledbetter,
Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Bill Mills, Cumming, and
Beth and Carlton Chester, Jackson Hole, Wy.; son and daughter-in-law, Troy
and Betsy Ledbetter, Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wynelle Chumley,
Cumming, Aline and Johnny Stephens and Eulalie and Johnny Philyaw, all of
Dawsonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Yvonne Ledbetter and
Loye and Dolores Ledbetter, all of Dawsonville, and Lois Ledbetter, Jasper;
grandchildren, Travis and Nathan and Jessica Ledbetter, Andrew and Jed
Mills; great-grandson, Trace Ledbetter. A number of other relatives also
survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 8 at 3 p.m. from Mt. Vernon
Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Keowen, Elmer Stowe, Dozier Henderson and
Horace Trammell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Bearden
Funeral Home of Dawsonville in charge of arrangements.

Henry Underwood
Mr. Henry Underwood, age 57 of Nelson, Ga., passed away Wednesday
evening, May 3, 2006 at his residence in Nelson.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Rollins, Nelson; sons, Scottie
Underwood, Blairsville, and Keith Underwood, Nelson; daughter, Kim
Underwood, Ball Ground; brother, Billy Rollins, Nelson; and sister, Faye
Chastain, Hinton. Eight grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of
Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Roger Elliott and Travis Childers
officiating. Interment followed in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery with
Gary Patterson, Scottie Underwood, Lamar Young, Ben Chastain, Junior Goss
and Bobby Cosey serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Betty Fister
Mrs. Betty Fister, age 71 of Dahlonega, Ga. and formerly of Wadsworth,
Oh., died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at her residence following a sudden illness.
Betty was born in Dawson County, Ga. and graduated from Gainesville High
School. She had a 30-year career as a sales agent in real estate. She was a
member of the Dahlonega Women’s Club, the Red Hat Society and the Women’s
Guild of St. Luke’s Church.
Betty was the daughter of the late Joseph Herman and Lori Trammell
Gilreath and was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Dobbs, and a
brother, Glenn Gilreath.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Fred Fister, Dahlonega;
daughters, Beth Marchand, Atlanta, Ga., and Susan Snyder, Akron, Oh.; sons
and daughter-in-law, Fred Fister, Jr. and Joseph Fister, both of Dahlonega,
Christopher Fister, Cleveland, Ga., and Matthew and Lou Fister, Wadsworth;
sister, Louise Free, Cleveland, Ga. Fourteen grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives also survive.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18 from St. Luke’s
Catholic Church in Dahlonega with Monsignor Stephen Churchwell officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at Banister Funeral Home in
Dahlonega from 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that
donations be sent to United Way of Lumpkin County, PO Box 1207, Dahlonega,
Ga. 30533.

Lillie Brown
Lillie Brown, age 92 of Dawsonville, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2006 at
Wildwood Health Care following a period of declining health.
Born in Cobb County, she had lived in Dawson County since 1993, having
moved from Forsyth County. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker, attended Bethel
Tabernacle and was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Brown, and
daughters, Shirley Jean Brown and Willie Mae Newton.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Jewell “Judy” Hollingshead,
Jasper; son, Ray “Bud” Brown, Dawsonville; sisters, Mary Wilson,
Stockbridge, Bertha McDaniel, Marietta, and Ola Mae Bryant, Carrollton.
Sixteen grandchildren and a large number of great- and
great-great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20 at 5 p.m. from Bethel
Tabernacle with the Revs. Robert Jarvis and Gene Cobb officiating. The
family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 4.
Bearden Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Pruitt
Mr. Ernest Pruitt, age 59 of Canton, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006
at Tranquility Hospice. He was a truck driver for Waste Management and a
member of Welcome All Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pruitt, Canton; son, Chris Padgett,
Jasper; daughters, Sandra Little, Elaine Ray and April Mahue, all of Jasper;
step-sons, Danny Benefield, Canton, Steve and Robert Benefield, both of
Ellijay; step-daughters, Gail Kennedy, Jasper, and Laura Benefield,
Marietta; parents, I.W. and Ineeva Pruitt, Cumming; sisters, Linda
Millholland and Pat Payne, both of Cumming. Seventeen grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13 from Sosebee
Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Willard Hamrick officiating. Interment
followed in Macedonia Memorial Park.

Bethanie Padgett
Infant Bethanie Padgett, age 1 month of Ball Ground, passed away May 12,
2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her parents, James L. Jr. and Mary E. Padgett, Ball
Ground; grandparents, Clayton D. and Aretta Marcum, Jasper;
great-grandparents, Elbert and Betty Crowe, Ball Ground, and Gene and Jean
Yother, Cumming. A host of aunts and uncles also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 15 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of
Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerrold Young officiating. Interment was in
Lake Forest Memorial Gardens.

Opal Zachry
Opal Christine Garmon Zachry, loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2006. She was the
wife of the late Marshall Zachry and the daughter of the late Bennie Everett
and Eula Christina Hunton Garmon.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Jimmy and Brenda Allen of
Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Christy Zachry Biddy, Atlanta, and Sharon
and Ted Graham, Gray, Tn.; brother and wife, Billy W. and Neybleth Garmon,
Acworth; sister and husband, Joyce and J.T. Johnson, Dallas; uncle, James
Bennett, Smyrna. Seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces
and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, May 14 at 2 p.m. from Northside Park
Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Smith Will officiating. Interment followed in
Marietta Campground Cemetery. Couch-Garner & Cole Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Clarice Meyerson
Mrs. Clarice Meyerson, age 91 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006
at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) Meyerson, Jasper; and
sister, Marie Collins, Conyers, Ga.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the
Mountains Catholic Church with Father Frank officiating. Interment followed
in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Murry and
nephews, Joe, Jr., Bob and Randy Smith, Jack Norton, Ben Kiker and Barry
Wallenhaupt. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to the
Cancer Society or Georgia Mountains Hospice. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Joe Dawson
Mr. Joe L. Dawson, age 70 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2006 at
the North Fulton Hospital in Roswell.
Mr. Dawson is survived by one brother, Lynwood Dawson of New York.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18 from the
Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.

David McAdoo
David Owen McAdoo, age 40, died Friday, May 12, 2006 in a private plane
crash in Forsyth County, Ga. His mother, Barbara Ann McAdoo, preceded David
in death.
His wife Sarah McAdoo and their two young daughters, Jessica Emily and
Morgan Alana survive him. Other family members surviving David include his
father, Alvin R. McAdoo, Jr. of Smyrna; and his two sisters, Debbie McAdoo
of Jasper and Dena Malsom of Marietta.
David attended Walton High School and went into business with his father
and eventually for himself at a very early age. David moved his family and
business to Jasper in 1999 where be became very accomplished and recognized
for several innovative engineering designs in the metal fabrication
industry.
David inherited a love of flying from his mother and father and enjoyed
numerous adventure sports including competition motor cross and
skateboarding, scuba diving and snow skiing. David was a loving and devoted
husband and father and an honorable, well-respected member of his community
of family and friends. He was guided by a strong spiritual foundation in the
Bahai’ faith and was a living example of service to God’s love. His peaceful
ways of generosity and kindness to all who knew him will be remembered and
missed.
Services for David were held at Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, Ga. on
Monday, May 15.

Sam Rampley
Mr. Sam Henry Rampley, age 64 of Canton, passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 at Northside Cherokee Hospital. He was retired from Pilgrims Farms.
Survivors include his sons, Sammy and Tim Rampley, both of Waleska, and Steven Rampley of Talbotton; daughters, Sue Bishop and Rebecca Hulsey, both of Ellijay, and Rachael Rampley of Talbotton; brothers, Charles and Van Rampley, both of Ranger; sisters, Connie Raticliff of Ranger, Vona Mulkey and Pearl Childers, both of Ludville, and Charlotte Fortner of Jasper. Fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 17 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Buck Rampley officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lois Pendley
Mrs. Lois Dean Pendley, age 79 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Eulen Pendley, Jasper; sons, Ronnie Pendley of Tate and Tony Pendley of Jasper; daughters, Patsy Holt and Sherry Andrews, both of Jasper; brother, Donald Spence, Acworth. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren children also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with theRevs. Roy Blackwell and Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Tommy Shaw, Mike Johnson, James Young, Tim Nichols, Tim Sexton, Bob Stone and Horace Williams.

Verlan Chapman
Verlan H. Chapman, age 75 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004. He was retired from Lockheed Aircraft, a member of the E.W. Hightower Masonic Lodge #679 and a member of Sharp Mtn. Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ingram Chapman, Ball Ground; son, Randall Chapman, Canton; daughters, Rejune Edwards, Ball Ground, and Renae Chapman, Canton; brother, Gene Chapman, Nelson; sisters, Betty Eubanks and Gail Jarrett, Nelson, Joan Holden, Talking Rock, Louise Stokes, Lizella, Ga., and Hazel Stokes, Ft. Valley, Ga. Seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 18 at 3 p.m. from the Sharp Mtn. Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Ware officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the E.W. Hightower Masonic Lodge #679 in charge of graveside services. South Canton Funeral Home and Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Payne
Barbara Ann Payne, age 74 of Holly Springs, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004. She was a retired pharmacy clerk for CVS Pharmacy and a member of the New Light Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Payne, Holly Springs; son, Don Payne, Woodstock; daughters, Sara Thomas, Augusta, and Bobbie Hynes of Big Canoe. Eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.

Eloise Roe
Mrs. Eloise Roe, age 82 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004 at Mountain Health Care in Jasper.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Tyson, Jasper, and Belva and Barry Wilson, St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Hicks Evans, Fairmount. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 from Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper with the Rev. Frank Wilson officiating. The family request in lieu of flowers, make donations to the Holy Family Episcopal Church. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Susan Duncan Murphy
Susan Duncan Murphy, age 47 of Marietta died May 17, 2006 at Wellstar
Community Hospice Tranquillity House.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Murphy of Marietta; daughter,
Kristen of Marietta; son, Tyler of Marietta; parents, Joe and Lucy Duncan of
Jasper; and brother, Larry Duncan of Jasper. A host of family and friends
also survive.
Services were held at Unity North Atlanta Church in Marietta Sunday at 5
followed by fellowship. The family requests in lieu of flowers that
donations be made to The Tranquillity House in Susan’s name. Contact Robin
