Ethel Caylor
Mrs. Ethel Caylor, age 75 of Jasper, passed away Feb. 1, 2003 at Murray Medical Center in Chatsworth.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Sue Caylor of Dalton and Jimmy and Vicki Caylor of Jasper; two brothers, Leo Moss of the Blaine Community and Donnie Moss of Marietta; three sisters, Ruby Taylor, Ruth Jones and Chloe Willis, all of Marietta. Four grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Hughes officiating. Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Cory Hawkins, Johnny Caylor, Jimmy Kelly, Ned Hillhouse, Robby Quinton and Dotson Wilson.

Hanie Coone
Hanie W. McGehee Coone (1938-2004) was the best mom and daughter. She will be dearly missed. She battled with cancer the last two months of her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Harold McGehee of Jasper.
Survivors include her mother, Etna McGehee of Jasper; brother, Luke H. McGehee I of Valrico, Fl.; nephew, Luke H. McGehee II;niece, Samantha McGehee of Tampa, Fl.; daughters, Tammie Davis of Selah, Wa., Rebecca Daughtry and Patricia Riel of Yakima, Wa. and Priscilla Coone of Reno, Nv. Eight grandchildren, five aunts and five uncles and many very good friends also survive.
Ms. Coone was a school bus driver for 15 years and delivered the Atlanta Journal-Constitution paper for 11 years. She helped care for her parents since 1988. She has been one of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1953.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Cove Road in Jasper. We would like to thank everyone for all their heartfelt love, care and concern.

J.L. Pinyan
J.L. Pinyan, age 71 of Adairsville, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 suddenly at his residence.
He was born in Pickens County Jan. 2, 1933, the son of the late Will and Rosa Reed Pinyan. He was a retired textile employee and was a poultry grower for 30 years; he was a part-time employee of Gordon County. Mr. Pinyan attended Fairmount High School and spent his early life in the Ryo Community, was a member of Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army serving from 1953-55.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Pinyan to whom he was married to for 46 years; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Melissa Pinyan; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Todd Poole and Yvonne and Keith Parker; granddaughters, Brittany Parker, Ashley Pinyan, Katelyn Poole and Megan Pinyan, all of Calhoun; brothers, Ralph and Dean Pinyan of Fairmount; and sister, Christaphine Stewart of Chattanooga. Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday at 11 a.m. from the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Wells and Dr. James Shope officiating. Music was arranged by Shirley Poole. Interment followed in the Gordon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Anthony Pinyan, Gary, Mathew and Stephen Waters, Leon Romine and Johnny Poole. Honorary pallbearers were: George Stewart II and III, Bradley and Craig Mealer and Bill Goforth.

Randolph Dean
Mr. Randolph C. Dean, age 83 of the Jerusalem Community, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Dean was born and lived most of his life in Pickens County. He graduated from Pickens County Senior High School in 1938 and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1941. From 1943-45 he served in the US Army Air Forces as an engineer and pilot with rank of 2nd Lieutenant. During his life he was a teacher and self-employed as a farmer, trucker and contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Dean, Jerusalem Community; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Shirley Dean, Jasper, and Randy and Patty Dean, Ellijay; sisters, Ruthelle Greeson, Jasper, and Gladys and Carl Flanary, Waynesboro, Va.; grandchildren, Amanda and Taylor Jenkins, Angie Patterson and Jeff and Kim Dean; step-grandchildren, Rebekah and Jessee Lillard and Brandon and Michelle Maynard. Five great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Corrie Dean, and a brother, J.T. Dean.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Willis officiating. Interment followed in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery with Local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of the graveside service.

Fletcher Spruill
Mr. Fletcher Leslie Spruill, age 77 of Bent Tree, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at Palm Harbor, Fl. He was the son of Frank Leslie and Edith Powell Spruill. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Ann Clegg of Atlanta and Larry and Lindy Spruill, Alexander, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Debi and George Kelly, Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Daniella Imbornone, Jennifer, Casey and Matt Brown, Michelle Clegg and Sherri Jones; great-grandchild, Taylor Rogister. Eight nieces and four nephews also survive. Mr. Spruill was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Spruill; sisters, Evelyn Tinkham, Eda Mae Long and Jean Downs.
An entombment service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum in Jasper with the Rev. Parker Benson officiating. Pallbearers were: Larry Spruill, Frank and Mark Long, George Kelly and Terry Clegg.

Ann Pickens
Mrs. Ann Darby Pickens, age 68 of Covington, Ga., formerly of Marietta, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Darby.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Pickens, Marietta; son, Allen Miller, Tennessee; daughter, Mrs. Julie Lindemann, Marietta; sisters, Jenny Watkins, Covington, Mrs. Dale Motto, Chicago, Il, and Mrs. Blondine Bennett, Conyers; grandson, Jason Miller.
The funeral service was held Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Reese Sanders officiated. Interment followed in the Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Pallbearers were: Christopher Worthey, Jarad Robinson, Gene Stanton, Bobby and Perry Sanford and Jeff Scarberry.

Stella Mae Stanfield
Mrs. Stella Mae Stanfield, age 96 of Resaca, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 at her residence following declining health.
Mrs. Stanfield was born Jan. 28, 1907 in Jasper, the daughter of the late Burton and Florence Jane Morris Shipman. She had lived most of her lifetime in Gordon County and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Stanfield was preceded in death by her husband, James Virgil Stanfield, 33 years ago; a son, Doyle Stanfield; a daughter, Betty Parker Mullins; and two grandsons, Jack Dean and Paul Bowling.
Survivors include five daughters, Beatrice Parker and Bessie Hales, both of Resaca, Daisy Dean of Belton, S.C., Louise Maden of Acworth and Kathy Lott of Ranger; son, Bill Stanfield of Eton; two sisters, Gladys Raines of Jasper and Judy Bell Brooks of Canton. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. from Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Ernest Channell and Larry Tallent officiating. Singing was arranged by Donald Hopper. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Pickens County. Active pallbearers serving included grandsons: Jim Stanfield, Junior Bowling, Michael and Larry Parker, Barney Lott, Donald Hales and Eddie Dean. Honorary pallbearers were members of New Hope Baptist Church.

Billy Shaw
Mr. Billy H. Shaw of Jasper passed away Feb. 4, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Shaw, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Jerry Jordan, Canton, and Lisa and Wayne Holmes, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Crystal Shaw, Jasper; sister, Mrs. Betty Hudgens, Palmetto; brothers, Johnny Shaw, Cumming, Jack Shaw, Griffin, and Phillip Shaw, Newnan. Four grandchildren, Joshua, James and Joseph Jordan and Gerald Shaw, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Interment was in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Infant Sabian Langston
Infant Sabian Amara Audrey Langston of Tate passed away on Jan. 31, 2003.
Survivors include the parents, Lauren and John Langston of Tate; grandparents, Jeff and Joyce Osborne, Tate, Dean Langston, Acworth, and Susan Langston, Gainesville; great-grandparents, Elijah and Helen Bannister, Tate, Niwana Osborne, Ellijay, Jimmy and Barbara Sawyer, Avon Park, Fl., Charles and Iris Langston, Cartersville, and John and Wansley York, Marietta.
The funeral service was held from the Chapel of Sosebee Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Buck Parker was in charge of the services with interment in Free Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Leonard Moody
Mr. Leonard Moody, age 60 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Moody, Jasper; two daughters, Tonda Coker and Toni Cope, both of Jasper; two brothers, Raymond Moody, Stark, Fl., and Charles Moody, Jacksonville, Fl.; two sisters, Helen Stewart and Ann Goodge, both of Stark. Five grandchildren, Ethan, Ty and Makayla Coker, Chandler and Jeremiah Cope, all of Jasper, also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper with the Revs. Ben Langley, Richard Craven, Randy Cotton, Gerald Faulkner and Dr. Claude Craven officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The following served as pallbearers: Terry Moss, Bill Siniard, Danny Westbrook, Carl DeGolier, Allen Evans and Steve Olsen. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons, Trustees and Tony of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Hilton
Mr. Howard Clifford Hilton, age 82 of Acworth, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003.
Mr. Hilton was a native of Canton and a member of the American Legion Post #149 in Jasper. He was a life-time member of the Boy Scouts of America, member of the Lockheed Recreation and R.V. Club. Mr. Hilton was retired from Lockheed after 30 years of service and a member of the First Baptist of Smyrna.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jeanne Hilton, Jasper; step-son, Homer Brisendine, Dunwoody; daughters, Patricia Merk, Acworth, and Barbara and Jack Thomas of Cartersville; step-daughter, Brenda Brisendine, Conyers; brother, J.N. Hilton, Spartanburg, S.C.; sisters, Helen Thacker and Marie Stubbifield, White. Seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw with the Revs. Jimmy Day and Donald Lumus officiating. Burial followed in the Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.

Columbus Roberts
Mr. Columbus Trillian “CT” Roberts, age 64 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003. He was a native of Commerce, Ga. and retired from being self-employed.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Anne Barfield Roberts, Jasper; daughters, Deborah Isenbletter and Kimberly Thompson, both of Marietta, Sheryl Chumley, Ellijay, Melissa Hirtle, Jasper, and Brandy Bragg, Acworth; brothers, Gene Roberts, Powder Springs, Edward Roberts, Watkinsville, Dennis Earl Roberts, Maryville, and Michael Roberts, Thompson; sisters, Louise Holbrooks, Canton, Elouise Brewster, Gainesville, Frankie Sikes, Winder, Nell Cousey, Doraville, Sadie Cruse, Jefferson, and Frances Fields, Nickelson. Nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw with the Rev. Billy Rabern officiating. Interment followed in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.

Cecil Couch
Mr. Cecil Parnell Couch, age 80 of Bent Tree, passed away late Monday evening, Feb. 10, 2003 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton, Ga. Mr. Couch was a Marine Corp night fighter pilot during WW II and a pilot for Eastern Airlines for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Couch, Bent Tree; son, Michael Joseph Couch, Decatur; daughter, Beth Knight, Alabama; brothers, William Couch, Marietta, and Herschel Couch, Covington; and granddaughters, Jessica and Mary Knight.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. from New Lebanon Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Fahner officiating. The family request that flowers be omitted and that memorials be made to the New Lebanon Presbyterian Church/Pete Couch Memorial Fund, 389 Bent Tree Dr., Jasper, Ga. 30143 or to MDS Foundation, PO Box 477, Crosswicks, N.J. 08515. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of directions.

Jack Morris
Mr. Jack Dewey Morris, age 88 of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003.
Born in Pickens County, Mr. Morris had lived in Marietta most of his life. He and his wife co-owned and operated Carney’s Flower Shop in Marietta for 30 years. For more than 55 years he was a member of Olive Springs Baptist Church in Marietta where he was also a Deacon and co-teacher of the Sunshine Sunday School class. He was a charter member of Fair Oak’s Community Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Carney Morris of Marietta; son, Aaron Morris of Marietta; daughter, Sherral Groves of Ball Ground; brothers, Jeff and Andy Morris, both of Marietta; sisters, Rocilla Cantrell of Acworth of Flaire West of Fairmount. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta with the Revs. Dr. Marion Beaver and Cavin Cawthon officiating. Burial was in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc., 1925 Century Blvd., Ste. 10, Atlanta, Ga. 30345.

James Raynes
Mr. James Raynes, age 68 of Mineral Springs Road, Jasper, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was retired from the Georgia Marble Co. and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Raynes, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Gladys Raynes; daughter, Joyce Raynes Fowler; sisters-in-law, Gladys and Doris Raynes, both of Jasper; six grandchildren, Rhonda and Joey Chapman, Lucas Bennefield, James and Jessica Estes, Deanna and Dustin Raynes, all of Jasper; and two great-grandchildren, Anna Chapman and Bailey Bennefield, both of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday from Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Childers and Johnny Garrison officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Lucas Bennefield, James Estes, James and Paul Moss, Mike Townsend and Jeff Raynes serving as pallbearers and Dustin Raynes serving as an honorary pallbearer. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sara Teague
Mrs. Sara Eloise Teague, age 75 of Dawsonville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include six sons, Geneand Jeff Hyde, LeRoy Holloway, Jerry Pendley, Gary and Johnny Teague; six daughters, Sara Gravely, Joan Snyder, Sue Peardon, Jackie Helton, Tammy Wofford and Connie Lowman. Thirty-five grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Max Padgett and Wendell Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the grandsons serving as pallbearers. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sylvia Roland
Mrs. Sylvia Roland, age 68 of Canton, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at her residence. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her mother, Ruby Jordan of Ball Ground; sons, Tony Roland of Canton, Tim and Jeff Roland, both of Jasper; daughters, Kristy Moore of Ball Ground, Janie Allred of Centre, Al., Vivian Roland and Teressa Womack, both of Jasper, Lisa Lusk of Canton and Kay Roland of Ball Ground; brothers, Clifton and Stanley Jordan, both of Ball Ground; sister, Doris Mooney of Ellijay. Twenty-four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Tim Roland and Michael Lusk officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
