Lillian Carver
Mrs. Lillian Carver, age 73 of Woodstock, formerly of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at a personal care home in Gwinnett County.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Alex and Shelly Carver, Dacula, and Jimmy Carver, Woodstock; daughter, Deborah Davis, Woodstock; brother, Thurman Wilson, Jasper; sisters, Jewell Brooks, Jasper, and Judy Floyd, Chattanooga, Tn.; grandchildren, Beth, Paige, Christine and Matthew Carver, Jamie and Jeff Davis; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Davis.
The funeral service was held Saturday, May 10 at noon from County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Sanford Fountain and Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lamar and Thomas Wilson, Danny Brooks, Mitchell Boyd, Steven Padgett and Larry Richards. Honorary pallbearers were: Randy Wilson, James Anderson and Tommy Floyd. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Stuart
Mrs. Elizabeth Thomason Romaine Stuart, age 78 of Jasper, passed away May 3, 2003 (her birthday) at her residence in Jasper.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Gerald Allen of Jasper; stepson, David Stuart of Jasper; step-daughters, Carrie Goss of McCaysville, Suzie Reeves of Newnan and Mickie Collins of Chattanooga, Tn.; grandchildren, Greg and Jeannie Allen and Lisa and Dwight Barnett, all of Jasper. Four great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. from Jasper First Baptist Church with interment in the Roosevelt Memorial Church Cemetery in Pine Mountain Valley, Ga. at 4 p.m. with the Revs. Charlie Boggan and Charles O. Walker officiating. The following served as pallbearers: Gene Mathews, Sonny Anderson, Blake Brooks, Von Hinton, John Foust and Dwight Barnett. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evaleen Wentworth
Evaleen Wentworth, age 91 of Jasper, passed away Friday, May 9, 2003.
She is survived by he husband, David K. Wentworth of Jasper; sons, David P. and Thomas Wentworth, both of Jasper, and Richard M. Spurling of Ansonia, Ct. Four grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 14 at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Jasper. The Cremation Society of the South was in charge of arrangements.

Lee Payne Jr.
Mr. C. Lee Payne Jr. of Jasper passed away May 10, 2003. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, 202 Griffith Rd., Jasper. H.M. Patterson & Son was in charge of the arrangements.

Velma Hicks
Mrs. Velma Young Hicks, age 84 of Ludville, Ga., passed away Tuesday,
May 10, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following several
years of declining health.
Mrs. Hicks was born August 13, 1921 in Pickens County, daughter of the
late Andrew and Savannah Chastain Young. During her lifetime Mrs. Hicks was
a poultry grower and a member of the East Damascus Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Hicks to whom she was married for 69
years; daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Hicks and Eva Lou and Eric Childers,
all of Ludville; grandson, Andy Childers of Ludville; sister, Odell Young of
Fairmount; brother, Onice Young of Ringgold, Ga.
The funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. from Bradley Anderson
Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Tatum
and Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment was in the East Damascus Baptist
Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Andy Burton, Michael Parker, Johnny
Henson, Kevin Young, Tom Shaw and Jimmy Sanders.

Ruth Hillyer
Ruth A. Hillyer, age 79 of Jasper, Ga., passed away May 4, 2005 at
Mountain Healthcare in Jasper.
A native of Boston, Ma., Mrs. Hillyer was a homemaker. She lived in Bent
Tree and loved to play golf. She was preceded in death by her husband,
George John Hillyer.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kelly Hillyer,
and a grandson, Tyler Hillyer, all of Alpharetta.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joyce Hamrick
Mrs. Joyce Louise Hamrick, age 60 of Jasper, passed away May 9, 2005 at
her residence.
Survivors include her sons, Troy Lee Jones of Rock Springs, Ga. and
Timothy Earl Jones of Nelson; daughter, Bonnie Jones Flick of Naples, Fl.;
and one sister, Jo Ann Hamrick, Duluth, Ga.
A memorial service was held Thursday evening, May 12 at 7 p.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home.

Lewis Carver
Mr. Lewis Carver, age 76 of Tate, passed away May 11, 2005 at his
residence.
Survivors include his brothers, Junior Carver of Jasper and Wylie Carver
of Mableton; and one sister, Corene Thomason of Marietta.
A graveside service was held Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. from Cool Springs
Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Charles Gay and D.J. Free
officiating. Pallbearers were: Jeff and Andy Tilley, Jimmy Gay, Troy Carver,
Jonathan Evatt and Bobby Wright. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Peggy Dean
Mrs. Peggy Delores “D” Dean, age 62 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away
May 13, 2005 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, James Dean, Talking Rock; daughters,
Deedee Parker, Canton, and Denise Googe, Ty TY, Ga.; sisters, Darlene
Bigham, Ducktown, Tn., and Dianne Rose, Snellville. Five grandchildren also
survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Sunday from the Chapel of Roper
Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Brock officiating. Interment followed at 2
at Zion Hill Church Cemetery in Ducktown.

Gloria Brown
Ms. Gloria S. Brown, age 69 of Cobb County, passed away Sunday, May 15,
2005 at Wildwood Nursing Home in Pickens County, Ga.
Survivors include her daughters, Andrea Brown of Canton and Kathi Brown
of Jasper. Four grandchildren also survive.
No memorial service has been planned at this time. In lieu of flowers,
the family asks that donations be made to help with the funeral expenses.
Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Sam Rampley
Mr. Sam Henry Rampley, age 64 of Canton, passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 at Northside Cherokee Hospital. He was retired from Pilgrims Farms.
Survivors include his sons, Sammy and Tim Rampley, both of Waleska, and Steven Rampley of Talbotton; daughters, Sue Bishop and Rebecca Hulsey, both of Ellijay, and Rachael Rampley of Talbotton; brothers, Charles and Van Rampley, both of Ranger; sisters, Connie Raticliff of Ranger, Vona Mulkey and Pearl Childers, both of Ludville, and Charlotte Fortner of Jasper. Fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 17 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Buck Rampley officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lois Pendley
Mrs. Lois Dean Pendley, age 79 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Eulen Pendley, Jasper; sons, Ronnie Pendley of Tate and Tony Pendley of Jasper; daughters, Patsy Holt and Sherry Andrews, both of Jasper; brother, Donald Spence, Acworth. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren children also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with theRevs. Roy Blackwell and Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Tommy Shaw, Mike Johnson, James Young, Tim Nichols, Tim Sexton, Bob Stone and Horace Williams.

Verlan Chapman
Verlan H. Chapman, age 75 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004. He was retired from Lockheed Aircraft, a member of the E.W. Hightower Masonic Lodge #679 and a member of Sharp Mtn. Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ingram Chapman, Ball Ground; son, Randall Chapman, Canton; daughters, Rejune Edwards, Ball Ground, and Renae Chapman, Canton; brother, Gene Chapman, Nelson; sisters, Betty Eubanks and Gail Jarrett, Nelson, Joan Holden, Talking Rock, Louise Stokes, Lizella, Ga., and Hazel Stokes, Ft. Valley, Ga. Seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 18 at 3 p.m. from the Sharp Mtn. Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Ware officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the E.W. Hightower Masonic Lodge #679 in charge of graveside services. South Canton Funeral Home and Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Payne
Barbara Ann Payne, age 74 of Holly Springs, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004. She was a retired pharmacy clerk for CVS Pharmacy and a member of the New Light Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Payne, Holly Springs; son, Don Payne, Woodstock; daughters, Sara Thomas, Augusta, and Bobbie Hynes of Big Canoe. Eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.

Eloise Roe
Mrs. Eloise Roe, age 82 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004 at Mountain Health Care in Jasper.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Tyson, Jasper, and Belva and Barry Wilson, St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Hicks Evans, Fairmount. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 from Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper with the Rev. Frank Wilson officiating. The family request in lieu of flowers, make donations to the Holy Family Episcopal Church. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Anlen Logan
Mrs. Anlen Muse Logan, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Gordon Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Logan was born on Jan. 25, 1923 in Tilton, Ga., the daughter of the late Arthur and Tiney Moss Bell Muse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Logan; two sisters, Irene Rogers and Velma Stanfield; and a brother, Randolph Muse. Mrs. Logan was a member of the Crane Eater Church of God.
Survivors include daughters, Mildred Wright of Rome, Ga., Rebecca Motsko, Ruth Price and Kathy Coggins, all of Calhoun, and Angelia Owens of Ranger; sons, Ed, Jack H., Robert Jr. and Steve Logan, all of Calhoun, and Ricky J. Logan of Ellijay; sisters, Vivian Stanfield of Calhoun, Jonnie Mae Barton of Sugar Valley and L.D. Muse of Dalton; brother, Gene Bell of Talking Rock. Twenty-one grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, May 16 at 2 p.m. from Crane Eater Church of God with the Revs. Fred Sylvester and Paul Gay officiating. Singing was arranged by Donna Gay. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Gordon Hospital Chaplain Dave Smith officiating. Pallbearers were: Roger Thomas, Randy, Sammy, Lee and James Logan, Jerry Redd Jr., Jacob Owens, Greg Wright and Marshall Price. Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lee Payne
Industrial designer C. Lee Payne. Jr.’s work ranged from working on the team that designed the Olympic torches for Atlanta and Salt Lake City to designing the Electric Football game and the packaging for Chiffon, the first soft margarine.
For 12 years (1976-1988), Lee Payne of Jasper directed the Industrial Design Program at Georgia Tech where he taught courses in design history and art history. His Tech students worked with NASA in conceptualizing a remote controlled moon rover, among many other projects for industry.
Lee Payne died on May 10, 2003 at St. Joseph’s hospital from complications following surgery.A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Jasper, Ga. on May 24 at 2 p.m. Donations in Lee’s memory may be made to the Community Food Pantry at the Holy Family Church, 202 Griffith Rd., Jasper, Ga. 30143.
His great loves were his family, art, music and travel. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jennie; his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Chris Ames; his son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Noreen Payne; and two grandchildren, Kamran and Alia Payne.After retiring from Georgia Tech, Lee continued to teach on a part-time basis including a course in the history of automotive design in which students studied and renovated the famous Hupmobile. He regularly led summer art and design history courses in Europe for Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia.
Lee’s professional work included packaging and product design as well as corporate identity and logo work, including such things as the logo for the National Hockey League Players’ Association and the city seal for Beaufort, S.C. His “Neapolitan Table,” a coffee table resembling a wedge of neapolitan ice cream and created for the Formica Corporation, has become part of the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Before coming to Georgia Tech, Lee worked for Walter Dorwin Teague Associates and Tudor Games, then his own industrial design consulting company. He had a BS in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati and an MA in Art History from Emory University. In 1988 he was awarded fellowship in the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), their highest honor. His design work won many awards, including a CLIO Worldwide Advertising Excellence for package design.
Lee designed all kinds of products for companies as varied as Federal Express, Tupperware, Klipsch and G.E. Appliances, but his work in designing the Electric Football game garnered the special attention of collectors.
His interests were diverse: he was a painter and an art historian; he played football for the University of Georgia before transferring to the University of Cincinnati to pursue his artistic career; he served as a Captain in the US Army Reserves and as a volunteer firefighter in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York; he designed and built three homes for his family.
Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who shared his love for art, travel, architecture and design with all who knew him.

James Parker
Mr. James “Jim” Weldon Parker, age 65 of Jasper, passed away May 3, 2003 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital in Canton. He worked forLockheed for 15 years. He also worked for NASA on Atlas for Missile Tracking System in Australia.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Parker of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Sheree Parker of Woodstock; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Margaret Parker of Jasper; niece, Delene Parker of Marietta; nephew, Billy and Knoxie Parker of Woodstock; aunts, Lucy Parker of Jasper and Jessie Parker of Tennessee. Two great-nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the interment following in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Bates officiating. The following served as pallbearers: Tommy Holley, Bobby Mullinax, John Lyons, Tim Thomas, Danny Wright and Guy Chapman.

Gladys Ledford
Mrs. Gladys Ledford, age 71 of Jasper, passed away May 17, 2003 at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, James Ledford of Jasper; sons, Randall and David Simmons, both of Canton; daughters, Patsy Vincent, Middleburg, Fl., and Shirley Bunch, Jasper; brothers, Grady Prather, Bunnell, Fl., and T.J. Prather, Jasper; sisters, Ruth Burgess and Martha Almond, both of Jasper. Five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 19 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Dozier Henderson and John Henderson officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: James, Gary, Tim and Terry Prather, Stanley Burgess and Ted Almond. Honorary pallbearers were: Johnny, Larry, Jerry and Ryan Prather.

Eva Martin
Mrs. Eva Dimple Martin, age 73 of the Refuge Community in Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a son, Randy Martin of Rome, Ga.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Mack Martin, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Betty Sue Martin, Canton, and Frank and Barbara Martin, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Karen Martin, Rome; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and John Boyd, Jasper, and Regina and Jeff Payne, Talking Rock; brothers and sister-in-law, Eugene and Ingrid Jackson, Dallas, Ga., and A.J. Jackson, Jasper; sister-in-law, Frances Holden, Atlanta; sisters and brother-in-law, Mae and Amon Young, Monroe, Ga., and Agnes Long, Acworth; brother-in-law, Forest Tidwell, Jasper. Twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 20 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Childers, Phillip Padgett and Tommy Teague officiating. Interment was in Lake Forest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: Tommy Gartrell, Danny and David Martin, Ronald Young, Gary Prather and Michael Teague.

Bea Johnson
Mrs. Bea Johnson, age 70 of Jasper, passed away May 16, 2003 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital in Canton.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Lee Johnson, Jasper; sons, Terry, James and Tom Johnson, Jasper; sisters, Kay White, Canton, and Sue Sullivan, Port St. Lucie, Fl. Two grandchildren, Brittany and Shannon, also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 19 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Johnson officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Memorial Park in Roswell.

Phillip Cash
Mr. Phillip Cash, age 47 of Jasper, passed away May 13, 2003 at Kennestone Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Cash, Jasper; father, Jerome Cash; step-mother, Bernice Cash, Jasper; daughter, Darlene Darby, Jasper; brothers, Joe Holcomb of Canton and Charles Blackwell of Swanee; sisters, Joyce Eaton, Jasper, Shelia Sutton, Teresa Walker and Gina Hill, all of Tifton, and Mary Lou Chester of Dahlonega. Three grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Regan officiating. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to Local Chapter #47 DAV in Pickens County.

Steven Crowe
Mr. Steven Lee “BC” Crowe, age 41 of Marble City Road, Marble Hill, Ga.,
Passed away Saturday, May 21, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Crowe is survived by his mother, Mary Cantrell Crowe; son, Cody
Crowe; daughter, Jesse Crowe; and sisters, Patricia Carlton and Debra Bell.
Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25 from
Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Dawson County with the Rev. Harold Johnson
officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral
Home in charge of arrangements.

Nell Norton
Mrs. Nell Rose Darden Norton of Jasper passed away Saturday, May 21,
2005 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bennie J. Norton, Jasper; son, Steve
Norton, Jasper; daughters, Tracey Orr and Angela Norton, both of Jasper;
brothers, Eugene Darden, Orlando, Fl., and Tommy Darden, Jacksonville, Fl.;
sisters, Sarah Bateman, Florida, and Margaret Theil, Massachusetts;
grandchildren, Greg, John and Blake Dungan, T.J. Orr, D.J. and Amber
Gilbert; and one great-granddaughter, Gwenyth Gilbert. Thirty-four nieces
and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. James E. Browne, Von Hinton and
Eddie Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park in
Smyrna. Pallbearers are: Greg, John and Blake Dungan, John Bateman, Dr. Dan
Fincher and Bill Hogan. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations
be made to Good Samaritan Clinic, PO Box 579, Jasper, Ga. 30143.

Hulda Stanfield
Mrs. Hulda Stanfield, age 61 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, May 18,
2005 at her residence.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon Grizzle, Jasper,
J.C. and Jean Grizzle, Snellville, and Bob and Alice Grizzle, Ellijay; and
sister-in-law, Jeanette Grizzle, Jasper. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and
nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20 from Philadelphia
Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Reece officiating. Pallbearers
were: Charles, Bobby, Lawton and Tommy Grizzle, Johnny Jarrett and Greg
Jones. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jane Chapman
Ms. Jane Blair Chapman, age 65 of Crawfordville, Ga., passed away at her home Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2004 following a lengthy illness.
Ms. Chapman was a native of Crawfordville, the daughter of the late Walter Oscar and Helen Steed Chapman. She had a long career as a school teacher and administrator, and at the time of her death was Curriculum director at an elementary school in Abbeville, S.C. She served on the Crawfordville City Council and was a member of Crawfordville Baptist Church where she taught the Gleaners Sunday School class for many years. Her students were her children and there were hundreds through the years who loved and admired her.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Nancy Chapman of Crawfordville and Terry and JoAnn Chapman of Fairburn; niece, Lendy Chapman of Houston, Tx.; nephew, Jonothan Chapman of Fairburn. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Chapman, and a sister, Kathryn Chapman. She was a niece of Florence R. Chapman of Jasper.
The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon from Crawfordville Baptist Church with the Rev. John Autry officiating. Burial was in Crawfordville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bob Smith, Charles and Jonothan Chapman, Ike Moore, Perry Rowland and Charles Greene. As honorary escort, the Gleaners Sunday School class.
Contributions were directed to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hopkins Funeral Home in Washington, Ga.
