Mrs. Overton Magnan
Mrs. Overton Johnson Magnan, 91, of Oliver Springs, Tenn. and a former resident of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 11, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, The Rev. Philo McKinnon will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Tuesday night.

Born Feb. 8, 1911, in Hogansville, Ga., Mrs. Magnan was a daughter of the late William and Overton Hearn Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Hogansville before making her home in Oliver Springs in 1997, was a member and Elder of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Hogansville, and was a former member of the Hogansville Pilot Club. Prior to her retirement, she served 45 years as director of the Hogansville Public Library.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Julia Magnan of Oliver Springs; sister, Mrs. Maidee Grubbs of Sylvester; three grandsons, Jeff Magnan and Paul Magnan, both of Oak Ridge, and Mark Magnan of Oliver Springs; great-granddaughter, Samantha Magnan of Lebanon, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Magnan and her daughter, Jane Magnan.

Mrs. Germaine Thrash Smith
Mrs. Germaine Thrash Smith, 47, of Lora Smith Road, Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 in Atlanta.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at the St. Mary United Methodist Church, 100 Pine Street in Hogansville, Ga. The Rev. Gregory Williams will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Winfred "Chuck" Smith; son, Zack Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Michelle Thrash of Hogansville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Dutchess Renee Smith scholarship fund at St. Mary United Methodist Church in Hogansville, or Burns Chapel United Methodist Church in Newnan.

Mrs. Hilda J. Deriso
Mrs. Hilda J. Deriso, 90, of Newnan, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002.

Mrs. Deriso was born July 2, 1912 to the late Richard Warren Jackson and Annie Lee Smith Jackson. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women and moved to Leslie, Ga., to teach, where she met and married her late husband, Walter Mabry Deriso, Sr. After teaching in Leslie and Marietta, she and her family moved to Newnan in 1946. After resuming her teaching career, she earned a library science certificate from Emory University, became a librarian, and organized the libraries at Elm Street and Atkinson schools. She retired in 1977. Mrs. Deriso was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Dr. Joel Richardson will officiate, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church's fellowship hall. A burial for family only will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Central Baptist or the South Georgia Methodist Children's Home in Macon.

Surviving are her daughter, Ruby Ann Jackson and her husband, R. Barrie Jackson, of Newnan; son Walter Mabry Deriso, Jr., and his wife Judy Holman Deriso of Albany/Columbus; brother Dr. Richard L. Jackson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; seven sisters-in-law; grandchildren Rebecca Lynn Jackson and Matthew Barron Jackson of Newnan, Walter Mabry Deriso III and his wife Anna of Columbus, Dr. Charles Holman Deriso and his wife, Nicole, of Albany, and Richard Warren Deriso of Atlanta; great-grandson Charles Holman Deriso Jr. of Albany, and 26 nieces and nephews.

Mr. John Frederick "Fred" Ingram
Mr. John Frederick Ingram, 83, of Douglasville, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Ingram was born Nov. 22, 1918 in Coweta County. He was a retired food broker, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he attained the rank of captain, fought at Burma, and received the Bronze Star.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Pastor Glenn Rountree will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive guests Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, between 6 and 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Surviving are his wife, Dina Ingram; sons John Ingram and his wife Betsy of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jeffrey T. Ingram of Aiken, S.C., Robert Finnan of Douglasville, and Terry Finnan of Canton; daughter Kelly Cobb and her husband Bundy of Douglasville; sister Elizabeth Askew of Hogansville; brother Carlton Ingram of Newnan; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jan C. Nash, 44, of Grantville, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Atlanta Medical Center.

Mrs. Nash was born Nov. 27, 1957, in Coweta County to the late Harper Glen Connally and the late Odessa Colquitt Connally. She was a 1976 graduate of Newnan High School, a graduate of Griffin Technical College, and a licensed practical nurse. Mrs. Nash was a former employee of The Brian Center in LaGrange, Beaulieu Convalescent Center, and Life Screen, Inc., and was co-owner of Nash Florist in Grantville. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

A funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral home. Father Stephen Lyness officiated, and burial was in the Grantville Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Tony Tucker, Joe Cebulski, Bradley Rutledge, Ricky Thrash, Tim McGruder, Sal Messina, and Dave Corbett.

Surviving are her husband, Hugh R. Nash of Grantville; sisters June Rutledge of Newnan and Kay Manning of Arlington, Texas; brothers Glen Connally Jr. and Walker Connally, both of Newnan; mother-in-law and father-in-law June and Robert Nash of Grantville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Vera Sue Reeves, 78, of Newnan, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Portsbridge Hospice.

Mrs. Reeves was born June 5, 1924, in Georgia. She was a homemaker.

A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Mr. John Pinkston will officiate.

Mrs. Kathryn A. Waters, 82, of Senoia, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Waters was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Jefferson, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Waters, Sr.

A funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Senoia First Baptist Church. The Rev. Ted Padgett officiated, and burial was in the Senoia City Cemetery.

Mrs. Gail Bright, 51, of Newnan, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at LaGrange Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1951, in Chamblee, Ga., Mrs. Bright worked in professional medical transcription.

Mrs. Evelyn K. Helton, 80, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002.

Born in Carroll County Feb. 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Silas Harper. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jerry C. Helton and Blondell Hammond; two brothers, William Buren Harper and L.G. Harper; and her husband, Millard Lee Helton.

She was retired from Playtex. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held today at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, with Pastor Danny Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Avis F. Moss, 90, of Douglasville, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the graveside of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Fulton County.

Mr. Moss was born July 12, 1912, in Fulton County, to the late Leonard and Gertrude Suddeth Moss. A longtime resident of Douglas County, he was a retired farmer and was a member of Shadnor Baptist Church in Union City.

Survivors include a nephew and close friends.

Mrs. Scotia Harris Clarke, 88, of Rowan Road, Clinton, North Carolina, died in Mary Gran Nursing Center Friday, September 6, 2002.

A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at Rowan Baptist Church with the Rev. Maurice Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born in 1914 in Harnett County, Mrs. Clarke was daughter of the late Oliver Perry and Carrie Daniel Harris. She was a member of Rowan Baptist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a former registered nurse, a seamstress and a homemaker. She was the widow of Oscar V. Clarke.

Surviving are two daughters, Carole Clarke of Clinton and Connie C. Jackson of Virginia Beach, Va.; son, Michael Clarke of Moreland, Ga.; two sisters, Carrie H. LeCates of Durham and Sallie H. King of Winston Salem; four granddaughters, Jennifer Jackson, Jackie Jackson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Carole Ann Clarke and Michelle Clarke of Newnan, Ga.

Ms. Debra Lynne Graham, 42, of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, September 5, 2002 at her parents' home in Franklin, Ga. after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ms. Graham was born to Carl and Linda Graham in Salem, Ohio in 1960. Born into a military family, she was fortunate to experience life in most of the United States and Germany before settling in Newnan in 1988. A creative and talented person with her hands, she was a Master Pet Groomer and Stylist at The Dog House in Newnan for 12 years before her health required her hospitalization. She loved flowers and expressed her creative talents as a floral designer at Newnan Florist for many years. As an artist, she painted specialty designs on walls and buildings. She was a devoted Christian and member of New Antioch Christian Church in Franklin, Ga.

Surviving are her parents, Carl and Linda Graham of Franklin; three sons, Thomas Newingham of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy Newingham and his wife Brandy of Grantville, and Terry Newingham, also of Grantville; two daughters, Tiffany Newingham of Newnan and Tanya Newingham of Phoenix, Arizona; four sisters, Cheryl Whoric of Franklin, Michelle Graham of Mays Landing, New Jersey, Wendy Hollis of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and Carla Graham of Newnan; maternal grandmother, Ola Sellers of Days Creek, Oregon; paternal grandmother, Martha Graham of Columbiana, Ohio; two grandchildren, Cheyenne Newingham and Mystikal Newingham, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mrs. Dorothy Wood St. Clair, 80, of Hogansville, Ga., died Friday, September 6, 2002 at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange, Ga.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown and the Rev. Wayne Turner will officiaite, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Wilson St. Clair Jr., Earl J. Hanners III, Earl J. Hanners IV, Adam Hanners, Matthew Rice and Chris Hanners.

Mrs. St. Clair was born October 17, 1921 in Covington, Va., daughter of the late Owen and Naomi Heironimus Wood. A resident of Hogansville since 1959, she was retired from William L Bonnell Co., was active in the Newnan Bowling League, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hogansville. She was a member of the Hogansville Senior Center, had worked with the Meals on Wheels program, and attended the National Senior Olympics for 15 years beginning in 1986.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Scarlett and Earl J. Hanners Jr. of Brooks and Crystal St. Ckair of Snellville; two sons, Wilson St. Clair and Gerald St. Clair, both of Hogansville; one brother, Earl Wood of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, Wilson L. (Bubba) St. Clair Jr. of LaGrange, Earl James Hanners III and David Christopher Hanners of Brooks, Alison Rice of Stockbridge, Heather St. Clair, Tara St. Clair and Corey St. Clair, all of Roanoke, Va., and Megan St.. Clair of Franklin; seven great-grandchldren, Taylor St. Clair, Wilson St. Clair III, Earl J. Hanners IV, Adam Hanners, Nikki Hnners, David Hanners and Emily Hanners.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Susan St. Clair.

Miss Luvie A. Winkles, 90, of Greenville, Ga., died September 6, 2002, at her residence on Luthersville Road in Greenville.

She was born April 5, 1912, in Carroll County, Ga., daughter of Riley and Susie (Reynolds) Winkles. She worked at Lockhead Aircraft and farmed.

A funeral will be held at graveside at Friendship Baptist Church in Winston Sunday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. Dr. E. C. Chatham will officiate.

Surviving are her brother, Arthur Winkles; sister, Pearlie Griffin; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lemmie Stegall Wood, 93, of George Arnold Road in Newnan, died at her home.

A funeral will be Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 37 Summer-McKoy Road in Newnan with Rev. Melvin D. Brittian Jr., pastor, as eulogist, assisted by Rev. J. L. Hendricks, Rev. Clinton Melson, and Rev. J. W. Russell Jr. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel United Methodist Cemetery. Granddaughters and grandsons will serve as flower ladies and pallbearers. The cortege will assemble on the day of the service at the residence at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Wood was born Jan. 24, 1909 in Coweta County to the late Johnnie and Beulah Stegall. She was married to Mr. Emerson Wood Sept. 24, 1924. They had ten children. She joined Providence Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully until her declining health hindered her attendance. Her ministries at Providence included the senior choir, usher board and mother board. She was a devout Christian, loving mother and a true friend to all who knew her.

Surviving are children, Ruby Mae Amos, Emily (J. W.) Russell, Mary Ruth Carter, Alonzo (Doris) Wood, Catherine (Walter) Ware, Allene Malcolm; 50 grandchildren; 133 great-grandchildren; 55 great-great-grandchildren; special caregiver Sharonda Tigner and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Sterling Walter Dukes, 79, of Lyndhurst Drive, Sun City Center, Florida, died Monday, September 2, 2002 at the Sun City Center.

Mr. Dukes, a former U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and pilot, retired in 1967. He flew in the Continental Air Command. He had homes in Blue Ridge, Ga. and Tampa, Fla. and was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home chapel Friday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Ina Fobbus Dukes, of Sun City Center, Fla.; daughters, Janet Keller and her husband Alan, Jennifer McCollum and her husband LeVan, June Nesbitt and her husband Dave; grandchildren, April Keller, Jill Keller, Allison Massey and Robin Person; three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mattie Sue Powell Heath, 99, of Spence Avenue, Newnan, died at her residence Wednesday, September 4, 2002.

A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin D. Brittian Jr., pastor, eulogist, and assisted by others. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, flower ladies will be nieces. The cortege will assemble at the residence at noon Saturday.

Mrs. Heath was born Oct. 31, 1902 to the late Wilson and Winnie Powell. At an early age she joined the Providence Baptist Church. She served on the Mother Board. She was married to the late Sammie Andrew Heath in 1922 and they had three children. She son Sammie Wilson Heath preceded her in death. Also, nine siblings preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Mattie Mae) Huling and Mrs. Mozelle Smith; two brothers, Edward Powell and Ervin Powell; two grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr. Burundi Nkrumah Hill, 27, died September 3, 2002 at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta.

A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. C. Neal, eulogist. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the home of his father, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hill, 1796 Millard Farmer Road, Newnan, at 1 p.m.

Hill was the son of James and Wanda Hinton (Wanda) and Gerald and Renee Hill (Gerald) and was born Nov. 1, 1974 in Newnan, Ga.

He attended Coweta and Fulton County public schools. He was a student of chiropractic medicine at Life University in Marietta, Ga. He attended Smith Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hinton and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hill; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford King and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Clarence Malcolm, Ms. Lucy Hill, Mr. Milton Hill; eight brothers, Jasmine (Phat), Tamar, Justin, Renard, Kenyatta (Yat), Baraka (Rak), Edward and Duke; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also had a special friend, Krystal O'Donald.

Mrs. Linda Joyce Owens, 45, of Senoia, Ga., died September 3, 2002 at her residence.

Mrs. Owens was born December 5, 1956 and was a homemaker. Her father, Arthur Camp, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband, Mike Owens; sons and daughters-in-law, Shane and Angie Owens of Newnan, Tommy and Allison Owens of Senoia; mother, Mary Alice Camp of Haralson; brothers, Curtis Camp, Danny Rowan; sisters, Rita Lyons of McDonough, Ruth Weathers of Senoia, Debra Neely of Sargent, Montine Stockton of Senoia; grandchildren, Tyler Owens, Megan Owens, Naranda Owens; nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel. Dr. E. C. Chathem officiating. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Evelyn Powell Verra
Mrs. Evelyn Powell Verra, 87, of Greenville, Ga., and a former resident of Atlanta, Ga., died Sunday, September 1, 2002 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park. The Rev. Alan McCuistion will officiate.

Mrs. Verra was born June 19, 1915 in Fulton County, daughter of the late James Andrew Powell and the late Jessie Maude Wilson Powell. Before returning to the Atlanta area in 1967, she was a resident of New Jersey for 25 years, was a retired hairdresser, and was the wife of the late Tony Verra.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Carol Hayden of Union City; a daughter, two grandchildren, and several nieces and nehews.

A funeral for Mrs. Juanita Smith Bailey of 132 Fourth Street, Newnan, will be Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Poplar Road, Newnan, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cortez Golphin officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-8 p.m.

The cortege will assemble on the day of the service at the residence at 1 p.m.

Mr. Danny James Faulkner
Mr. Danny James Faulkner, 47, of Newnan, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002 at Atlanta Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained when he was hit by an automobile on Jackson Street in Newnan several days ago.

Mr. Faulkner was born in Coweta County in 1955 to Wayne and Mary Frances Faulkner and attended East Coweta High School. A carpenter by trade, he worked and lived by the Golden Rule, always giving more than he received. He was known to all as a good friend, father, and brother. His mother, Mary Frances Higginbotham and a daughter, Patricia Edna Faulkner, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his father and step-mother, Wayne and Azzie Lee Faulkner; three sons, Danny James Faulkner Jr. and Franklin Edward Faulkner, both of Newnan, and Alan J. Faulkner of Grantville; daughter, Megan Ann Faulkner of Newnan; two brothers, Steve Ray Faulkner of Grantville and Larry Wayne Faulkner of Luthersville; two sisters, Judy Cantrell of Newnan and Debbie Green of Atlanta; stepbrothers, Denver Kittles of Athens, Ga., Robert Kittles and Frankie Kittles, both of Newnan; stepsisters, Judy Wainright and Dinah Costley, both of Newnan, Louise Noles of Franklin and Sarah Allen of Tarboro, North Carolina.

Pallbearers will be Keith Spratlin, Randy Spratlin, Tim Spratlin, Robert Hyatt, Chris Shelton, Parker Noles and Ronnie Daniel.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at Jones Funeral Home, with the Reverends Paul A. Stitcher and Tim A. Stitcher officaiting.

Burial will be at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Raymond, Ga.

Mr. Willie "June" Favors, 71, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, August 28, 2002.

He was born June 12, 1931 to Lottie Gates and Willie Favors. He joined the Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Gay, Ga. at an early age.

A funeral was Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Gay, Ga. The Rev. E. A. Stephens officiated, assisted by Rev. A. Alexander, Rev. L. Barner, and Pastor Brenda Clark. Burial was in the church Cemetery, and family members served as pallbearers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Gates; brother, Guy Gaston; sister, Josephine Bailey; daughter, Carolyn Favors-Pittman, and grandchild, Melody Ann Pittman.

Surviving are his first wife, Annie Maude Hinton-Favors-Matthews; significant other, Mozell Stokes; brother, Willie Favors of Griffin, Ga.; sons, Willie C. Mrs. Dura Fuller Murdoch, 82, of Woodrow Wilson Parkway, Rome, Ga. and formerly of Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Redmon Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Murdoch was born January 7, 1920 in Carrollton, Ga. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome, and was a member of First Baptist of Newnan from 1958-2000 when living in Newnan. She served as a Pink Lady volunteer at Newnan Hospital.

The family received friends Monday morning at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, and a funeral was in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel Monday at 11 a.m. Dr. Gene Tyre officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road, Newnan.

Surviving are brother, E. M. Fuller of Carrollton; sister, Evelyn Griffin and her husband Lloyd of Rome, Ga.; and sister-in-law Alice Fuller of Carrollton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel and Mary Ann Elizabeth Griffin Fuller and her husband Charles R. "Tony" Murdoch.

Mr. Arthur C. Boyd, 71, of Sharpsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Piedmont Hospital.

Mr. Boyd was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Atlanta. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked in residential and commercial construction before his retirement.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Dr. Gene Tyre will officiate, and burial will be in the Sharon Memorial Gardens in Tyrone.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home between 7 and 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores; daughter Annette Crum of Moreland; sisters Jean Reese of Robinsville, NC and Betty Thrash of Ponca City, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Leila Smith McDaniel, 82, of Carrollton and formerly of Bowdon, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002.

Mrs. McDaniel was born July 9, 1920, in Cleburne County, Ala., to the late Newman and Etta Hanley Smith. She was a lifelong resident of the area, a member of Crumbley's Chapel Church of God, and a retired employee of Bremen-Bowdon Investment Company.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Troy Clifton "Bud" Willingham and her second husband Mac McDaniel; sister Arlin Stapler; and her son Gimmie Willingham.

A funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Crumbley's Chapel Church of God. The Revs. O.V. Sewell and J.M. Jones will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Music will be furnished by Netia Spruill, Norma Jean Stephens, and Tammy Jackson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Pete Turner, Billy Joe Willingham, Kenneth Deese, Byron Deese, Keith Stephens, and Oliver Willingham.

Surviving are her daughter, Irene Williamson of Bowdon; granddaughter Brenda Gunter of Newnan; grandsons Wesley Robinson of Bowdon and Barry Willingham Kennedy of Albertville, Ala.; brothers Joe Smith of Grasonville, Md., and Kirby Smith of Ranburne, Ala.; sisters L.C. Hurst and Ora Walker of Bowdon and Edna Abercrombie of Ranburne; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dura Fuller Murdoch, 82, of Rome and formerly of Newnan, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Redmon Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Murdoch was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Carrollton to the late Emanuel and Mary Ann Elizabeth Griffin Fuller. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome and was a member of First Baptist of Newnan from 1958-2000. She was a homemaker, and volunteered with the Newnan Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. "Tony" Murdoch.

A funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Dr. Gene Tyre will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Surviving are her brother, E.M. Fuller and his wife Alice; sister Evelyn Griffin and her husband Lloyd, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Milton L. Norton
Mr. Milton L. Norton, 72, of Moreland, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Norton was born July 3, 1930, in Carroll County to the late Luther Howard Norton and Nora Belle Davis Norton. He lived in Moreland for over 50 years, was retired from the William L. Bonnell Company, and was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Jean Norton Howard.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl Calhoun, the Rev. L.B. Rooks, and the Rev. Bryan Calhoun will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2.

Surviving are his wife, Irene Buchanan Norton; children Betty Haines and her husband Clifton of Moreland; Richard Norton and his wife Karen of College Park, and Billy Norton and his wife Debra of Moreland; grandchildren Diane Gentzke, Elizabeth Woodruff, Holly Norton, Nicole Norton, Brittany Norton, Katie Norton, Elizabeth Howard, George Howard III, and Krystal Howard; and great-grandchild Kaden Gentzke.

Mr. Jerry Kenneth Harris

Mr. Jerry Kenneth Harris, 49, of Carrollton, Ga., formerly of Franklin, died Friday, August 30, 2002, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mr. Harris was born in Heard County on June 25, 1953, to the late C.J. Harris and Missouri Francis Dunlap Harris. Mr. Harris was employed by the Flora Daniel Construction Company. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Heard County.

A funeral service will be held today at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home, with Reverend Theo Arnett and Reverend Gary Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Jeremy Harris of Carrollton and Jason Harris of Woodland, Ala.; one sister, Gail Hamby of Carrollton; one brother, Freddy Harris of Temple; and a number of nieces and nephews.
