Mrs. Verna Hyde, 82, of Greenville Street, Newnan, Ga., died Monday, October 7, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Hyde was born August 25, 1920 in Dooley County, Ga. She was employed as bookkeeper with the Manget Brothers, Kirby Chrysler & Plymouth, Cash and Carry Building Supply and Johnson Hardware over the years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a longtime resident of Newnan.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 6-9 p.m.

A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home chapel Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Don Helms and Rev. Danny Karr will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are daughter, Carole and Dalton Stevens of Fayetteville, Ga.; brothers, Alton and Margaret Peavy of Mt. Aire, N.C., and Melton and Avis Peavy of Newnan; grandchildren, Jason Stevens and fiance Shantyl Cook of Newnan, and Dalton and Angie Stevens Jr. of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Cole Stevens and Sawyer Stevens; sister-in-law, Doris Peavy of Atlanta, Ga.

Mr. David Hood
Mr. David Hood, 83, of Newnan, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mr. Hood was born May 3, 1919. He was a retired restaurant operator, and served in the United States Army in World War II.

A grave-side service will be held Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at 4 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Frank Powers will officiate.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Lee Hood; sons Bobby Gene Hood of Bartow, Fla., David Ronald Hood of Fayetteville, and Terry Lee Hood and Joey Richard Hood of Newnan; daughter Sheila Ann Furlong of Bartow; brothers Glenn Hood of San Antonio, Texas, Hubert Hood of Panama City, Fla., and John Hood, Jr. of Opp, Ala.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. William Henry Harbuck Sr.
Mr. William Henry Harbuck Sr., 64, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Harbuck was born in Marion County, Ga. Jan. 31, 1938. He was a carpenter by trade, working for himself. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Irene Wallace Harbuck and a brother, Robert Earl Harbuck.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Bill George and Karen Gilmer of Bethlehem, William and Lisa Harbuck Jr. of Newnan; daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Robert Hall of Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Earl and Jackie Harbuck Sr.; seven grandchildren.

A funeral was Thursday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. in Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. Pastor Durward Williams and Brother Harvey Self officiating. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Mr. Willie Thomas, husband of Sarah Willoughby Thomas of Wallace Gray Road, Newnan, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Atlanta Medical Center.

Mr. "T.J." Timothy Johnathan Hyatt
Mr. "T.J." Timothy Johnathan Hyatt, 17, of Franklin, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 after sustaining injuries from a car accident.

Mr. Hyatt was a Heard County High School senior. He was born in Troup County on July 22, 1985 to the late Rhonda Faye Rollins Hyatt and Timothy Joseph Hyatt. He was a member of the art club and he was a Black Stripe in Tae Kwan Do. He was loved by all who knew him for his kind, soft spoken ways.

Funeral services for Mr. Hyatt will be held today at 4 p.m. from the Centralhatchee Baptist Church, with the Reverend Doug Bingham officiating. The remains will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service time. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two brothers, Wesley and Jeramiah McCrary, both of Arizona; his guardians; an uncle and an aunt, Jane and Mal Milam of Franklin; two grandmothers, Annie Lee Hyatt of LaGrange and Mary Smith of Roopville; one great-grandmother, Verdie Lee Hubbard of LaGrange; aunts and uncle, Debra and Saul Cohen of Franklin, Pam and Allen Lane of Carrollton, Skip and Debbie Hyatt of Centralhatchee, and Robert and Lisa Hyatt of Newnan; one great aunt, Boogie Hubbard of LaGrange; the love of his life, Ashley Bergman; and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the T.J. Johnathan Hyatt Scholarship Fund has been established at the Franklin Branch of the Regions Bank.

Mr. Austin Ruel Moses, 51, of College Park died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at South Fulton Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Janet Ann Wright
Mrs. Janet Ann Wright, 63, of Hogansville, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale after a brief illness.

Mrs. Wright was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1939 to Robert and Jennie Watson. After graduating from school, Mrs. Watson moved to Sarasota, Florida where she met and married her husband George in 1956. His job moved them all over the country. They eventually settled in Coweta County 10 years ago.

Mrs. Wright loved traveling and the adventure of moving to new places. She enjoyed helping others and taking care of people. Before her health forced her to quit, she was a home health nurse. She and her husband attended East Side Baptist Church in Riverdale, Ga.

Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband of 46 years, George R. Wright Sr. of Hogansville; a son, George Wright Jr. of Hogansville; three daughters, JoAnn Ramsey of Jonesboro, Janet Albright of McDonough, and Judy Ann Vanya of Griffin; two brothers, Richard Watson of Sarasota, Florida, and Robert Watson of Washington D.C.; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7. The funeral service will begin immediately after visitation at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Thomas Shannon officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Memorial Park Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Mr. Howard Gillenwaters
Mr. Howard Gillenwaters, 92, of Valley, Alabama, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at Lanier Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 27, 1910 in Denver, Alabama, son of the late Lizzie Rochelle Duffey Gillenwaters and William C. Gillenwaters. He was a member of Valley First Baptist Church, former member of the Langdale 21 Club, Valley Masonic Lodge #516 and Alcazar Shrine Temple in Montgomery, Ala.

Mr. Gillenwaters was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell's Langdale Mill, with more than 45 years of service with the company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Gillenwaters.

Surviving are nieces, Debra Perryman of Valley, Emily Garrett of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Lucille Fincher, LaGrange, Ga., Sally Shaver, LaFayette, Ala., Frances Teel, Newnan, Ga., Janice Moore, Troy, Ala.; brothers, Claude Gillenwaters, Valley, Nathan "Buddy" Gillenwaters, LaFayette, Ala., Ralph Gillenwaters, Camp Hill, Ala., Clark Gillenwaters, Columbus, Ga.

A funeral will be at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Alabama, 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Burial will be in Langdale Cemetery. Dr. Randy Williams will officiate.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Valley First Baptist Church.

The family was receiving friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Mr. H. W. Chuck Holloway
Mr. H. W. Chuck Holloway, 73, also known as "Doc" by his former co-workers and life-long friends at the Ford Assembly Plant, died Thursday, October 3, 2002.

Born January 4, 1929, he grew up in downtown Atlanta. His childhood home was located on the third base site of the old Atlanta Stadium. The majority of his life was spent in the metro-area of Atlanta, including Powder Springs and Sharpsburg. Mr. Holloway lived a wonderfully full and versatile life. He joined the Air Force in 1949, becoming an aviator radar technician and receiving the rank of sergeant while stationed in Japan. Later, he worked and retired from the Ford Assembly Plant as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Workers. Many hobbies were enjoyed by Chuck including traveling, collecting corvettes and fishing, to name a few.

Surviving are his five sons, Jimmy, Gary, David, Mitch and John Holloway and ten grandchildren.

A funeral will be Monday, October 7 at 1 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street in Newnan. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, 1173 Cascade Avenue, SW, Atlanta.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Ms. Cynthia Diane Keith
Ms. Cynthia Diane Keith, 45, of Hogansville, Ga., formerly of Newnan, died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at the Embracing Hospice Care Center in Snellville, Ga. after an extended illness.

Ms. Keith was born in Fulton County in 1957 to Roy and Mary Devereaux. She attended North Clayton High School and moved to Newnan after marriage. A devoted daughter and mother, Ms. Keith spent her time caring for her home and raising her family. Her favorite pastime was drawing pictures and spending time with her children.

Surviving are her mother, Mary Devereaux of Union City, Ga.; three daughters, Kimberly Lynch of Hogansville, Jamie Lynch of Newnan and Brittany Keith of Newnan; four brothers, Roy Devereaux, Danny Devereaux, and Randy Devereaux, all of Sharpsburg, and Richard Devereaux of Douglasville, Ga.; sister, Mary Ann Grimes of Stockbridge, Ga., grandson, Trisdon Ham, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park, Ga. with the Rev. Robert A. Longshore Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Lillie Opal Marks
Mrs. Lillie Opal Marks, 78, of Whitesburg, Ga., died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at her home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Marks was born in Coweta County in 1923 to Joe and Mattie Storey and lived her entire life in the county. She was married to the late Mr. Robert Marks for more than 40 years at his death. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Marks spent her time caring for her home and family. She loved to clean, cook and care for her children. Her favorite pastime was watching movies and being an "Elvis" fan. She loved working in her garden and was well known for her many house plants. She was a Christian and member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church for as long as anyone can remember.

Mrs. Marks is survived by a son, John Willard Marks and his wife, Pat, of Newnan, Ga.; three daughters, Janeth Richards of Whitesburg, Ga., Jean Holcomb and husband Larry of Mt. Zion, Ga., JoAnn Williams and husband Don of Carrollton, Ga.; two brothers, Joe James Storey Jr. and Willis Donald Storey, both of Newnan; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and special daughter Barbara Ivey.

Pallbearers will be Greg Nichols, Chris Nichols, Reggie Nichols, Jeff Richards, Brian Marks, Justin Marks, Joel Richards, Tim Robison and Scott Musick.

The family was receiving friends at Jones Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 4, from 6-9 p.m.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with pastors Doug New and Allen Howard officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church cemetery in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Sadie Chappell Storey, 82, of Senoia, Ga., died Friday, October 4, 2002 at her residence.

Mrs. Storey was born July 2, 1920, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos Chappell. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired from the William L Bonnell Company. She is preceeded in death by her husband Hugh Woodson Storey; and sons, Render Hugh Storey and Winford Dorsey Storey.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and James Hughes of Senoia; grandchildren, Tanya and Jeff McCoy of Luthersville, Mark and Amanda Storey of Senoia, Tamara and Matt Ferrari of McDonough, Phillip Hugh Storey of Senoia; great-grandchildren, Jessic McCoy and Skyler McCoy; sister, Lillian Chappell of Senoia; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Shirley Chappell of Senoia and Hartwell and Betty Chappell of Senoia; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Sunday, October 6 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the remains placed in state at 1 p.m. until the funeral time. Rev. Dennis Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard J. Chappell, Pete Wilson, David D. Chappell, Charles Storey, Thomas Wilson and David Diget.

The family was receiving friends for visitation at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Saturday from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. William Henry Harbuck Sr., 64, died September 30, 2002 at his residence in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Willie Mae McBride, 89, of Newnan and formerly of Atlanta, Ga., died Monday, September 30, 2002 at South Fulton Hospital.

Mrs. McBride was born in Smithville, Ga. Feb. 24, 1913. Her husband, Samuel Jay McBride and son James C. Nation Jr. preceded her in death.

Mrs. McBride was a retired lunchroom supervisor for the City of Marietta for 20 years. After retiring she moved to the Baptist Towers in Atlanta where she lived for 22 years. She was a member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in East Point, Ga.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Anne and Jim Emeott, of Newnan, and Emily and Warren Wallace of Sanford, N.C.; grandchildren, Tommy and Dee Emeott, Mike and Cathy Emeott, Bill Emeott, Sandra Emeott, Mark Malloy, Scott Malloy, Corbett Wallace, Hayden and Tim Long; great-grandchildren, Michelle Emeott, Jay Emeott, Shannon Emeott, Suzanne Emeott, Stephanie Emeott, Costel Emeott, Drew Malloy, Mary Catelyn Harles and McKenna Long.

Graveside services will be Oct. 2 at College Park Cemetery at 11 a.m. with Rev. Raymond Dunn officiating.

Mr. Wallace L. Murphy
Mr. Wallace L. Murphy, 72, died Monday, September 30, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral will be Friday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Heard Baptist Church in Franklin, Ga. Rev. Clinton Melson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Willie L. Geter, Rev. Terry Barner, Rev. Linda Jennings. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stevens Keith, Tori Newell, Chris Newell, Ray Stegall, Brandon Melson, Deanté Melson, Jan Callaway. Flower ladies will be nieces.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the residence at 1 p.m.

Mr. Murphy was born in Philadelphia, PA April 21, 1930 to the late Glannie Veal. He always said, "When God asks for his breath back, I've got to give it to him."

After serving his country through the U.S. Army, Mr. Murphy accepted employment with the state of California, where he settled to live, and was a faithful employee for many years. Twenty-four years ago, he married Maggie Melson. He enjoyed Newnan so much that after his retirement he relocated to Newnan. He was a member of Pama Ciea Baptist Church while living in California, where he served as a deacon and worked with the Vacation Bible School. Upon moving to Georgia, he joined the Bethel Heard Baptist Church. He really loved Sunday School and Bible study, and taught both at his new home church. He volunteered at the Newnan-Coweta Council on Aging and taught Bible study classes there as well as at the Georgian Place and Pointe Magnolia.

Surviving are his wife, Maggie; four children, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Charmaine) Murphy, San Leandro, California, Mr. and Mrs. Tyree (Tina) Howard, Douglasville, Ga., Rev. and Mrs. Lorenzo (Anita) Jenkins, Pompano Beach, Florida, Wallace M. Murphy, Hayward, California; father- and mother-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Clinton (Sarah) Melson; brother, Lewis Veal, Philadelphia; sisters, Alice Veal, Philadelphia, PA, Jinaki Ahmed, Union City; aunts, Gladys Anderson, North Carolina, Mrs. Janie Waddell, Philadelphia; uncles, Nelson and Sib Anderson of Greensboro, North Carolina; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus (Sarah) Keith, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy (Jeanie) Wilburn, New York, NY; Mr. and Mrs. James (Annie) Keith, Mrs. James (Lavon) Melson, Dallas, TX, Ms. Carrie Boxley, Suitland, MD, Betty Melson, Barbara Melson, Laura Newell, Lucinda Sapee, Mrs. Anthony (Gwen) Melson; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Loy M. Shaw, 68, of Grantville, died Monday, September 30, 2002 at his home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Burial will be in Potash Church of God Cemetery in Randolph County, Alabama.

Mr. Shaw was born May 16, 1934 in Heard County, son of the late James Carlis Shaw and the late Lottie Hammond Shaw. He was a former resident of Troup County and was a member of the Assembly of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Vera Shaw of Roanoke, Ala., and Darlene Rogers of Grantville; son, Danny Joe Shaw of LaGrange; four sisters, Joyce Hammond of Duncan, S. C., Jeanette Bailey of LaGrange, Myrtle Crenshaw of Roanoke, Ala., and Frances Gaddy of Hogansville; three brothers, Floyd Shaw and Billy Shaw, both of LaGrange, and J. D. Shaw of Clanton, Ala., 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Merl Shaw and Loy Merl Shaw Jr.

Mrs. Cile Dunaway, 83, of Northside Drive, Newnan, Ga., died Monday, September 30, 2002 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Dunaway was born May 28, 1919, in Dallas County, Alabama. She was the owner/operator of Cile Dunaway Beauty Shop since 1962 on the north Court Square. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newnan for 46 years. She loved to do gardening and cook for her family and friends. She also delivered food to the sick in her neighborhood.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. Rev. Gary Parrish and Rev. Larry Patton will officiate.

Surviving are her son, Phil and Glenda Dunaway, Palmetto, Ga.; daughter, Boote and Donald Sprayberry, Newnan; sister, Sadera and Cecil Moore, Decatur, Ga.; brother, Luther and Annice Wallace, Sylacauga, Ala.
