Bobbie Elizabeth Burton

Services for Bobbie Elizabeth Burton, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. Interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Burton died Dec. 1 at Camellia Gardens. Born Nov. 25, 1920 in Thomasville, she was the daughter of the late R. B. and Mae Rigsby Linson. On Sept. 10, 1946 in Thomasville, she married Harold Burton, who survives. She was a member of Dawson Street Methodist Church, Briarcliff Garden Club and was a bookkeeper for Faulk Chevrolet, Adams Brake Service, Neel's Department Store and a homemaker. Other survivors include a son, Glenn Burton; daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Bob Horner; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Robert L. McGee; sisters, Mae Stewart and Etta Wynn all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Ricki Blackwell, Matthew Horner and Brennan Horner; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Blackwell and Cole Blackwell. Memorials may be made to Dawson Street United Methodist Church, 1132 N. Dawson St., Thomasville, Ga. 31792. Willie Edward Simon Sr.

Services for Willie Edward Simon Sr., 85, of Thomasville, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Disciples of Jesus, 228 Augusta Ave., with his grandson Pastor Creflo Dollar and church pastor Elder Isreal Blake officiating. Interment is at Magnolia Cemetery. Active pallbearers are the Deacons of Olive Grove Church and friends. Mr. Simon died at his residence Oct. 15, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Born March 23, 1918, in Jennings, Fla., he was the son of Shade and Curlie Stevens Simon, who preceded him in death. Mr. Simon moved to Thomas County 65 years ago from Valdosta. He was an auto parts deliveryman for years with the Keenan Auto Parts store in Thomasville. Mr. Simon was married to Willie Mae Wilkerson Simon, who survives. He was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church of Thomasville where he served as a former chairman of the deacon board. Additional survivors include a daughter, Emma Grace Dollar of Atlanta; daughter, Brenda and her husband Ben Brown of Atlanta; daughter, Bobbie Simon; son, Edward Simon, Jr., both of Thomasville; son, Kenneth and his wife Janie Simon of Queens, N.Y.; sisters, Lillie Mae Williams of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Bernice Allen of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Thomas Hardy Sr. of Thomasville; sisters-in-law Overseer Jimmie Lee Mitchell and Thelma Wilkerson, both of Thomasville; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; many friends; brothers-in-law, Peter O'Neal, Thomasville, Wesley Wilkerson, New York; and a sister-in-law, Wila Wilkerson, New York. Floree M. Jefferson

Services for Floree M. Jefferson, 85, Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Saint Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Church. The Rev. Pedro Basden, the Rev. Emory Virgil and the Rev. Larry Hudson Sr. will officiate and interment is in Magnolia Cemetery in Thomasville. Active pallbearers are stewards and trustees of St. Thomas AME Church. Miss Jefferson died Sept. 30 at her residence. Born Dec. 12, 1917 in Early County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lillie H. Humphery Jefferson. She had lived in Thomas County since the 1920's. She attended Douglass High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in education. She continued to study at New York University in New York City where she was the recipient of a master's of art degree in early childhood education and studied at Florida A&M University and Tuskegee Institute of Alabama. She retired in 1976 as an educator with Thomas County and Thomasville school systems after 30 years in education. She was a member of Saint Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as church steward and has served as trustee, stewardess, choir member, financial secretary, Cub Scouts and served as various church committees. Miss Jefferson was a Glen-Mor Nursing Home director, a member of the Lapham-Patterson House Quilters, Artisans Club, Council of Negro Womean, Garden and Civic Club and the Retired Teacher's Council and named Teacher of the Year in 1960 serving at Dunlap and Scott Schools. Survivors include her brother, Booker T. Jefferson Sr. of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews, Booker T. Jr. and Tina Jefferson of Florida, Quenton Jefferson of Thomasville, Eleanor and Donald Jefferson Sr. of Maryland, Maxine Dunscomb and Harry Dunscomb Jr. of Indiana, Kevin Jones of Virginia, Cheryl and Myron Peters of Louisiana, Myron Peters 2nd of Louisiana, Gerald Grooms of Florida, Kevin Grooms of Warner Robins, Sean and Frederick Amos Jr. of California, Lynn Jefferson of California, William Jefferson of Nebraska, Gregory Jefferson of Indiana, Terry Jefferson of Indiana, Randy Jefferson of Ohio, Malik Grooms of Fort Valley, Barbara and Jerry Grooms of Thomasville; her godson, David Clark of Thomasville; dear friends, Esther Harvey, Margaret McIver, Francis Martin Culpepper, Willie Rene Blount; and her friends at the Lapham-Patterson House including Lena Abrams, Nellie Hammonds, Dorothy Echols and Marcie Dockett; caregivers, Barbara Wilson, Cynthia Franklin, Gretchen Hollis and Archbold Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Thomas AME Church, P.O. Box 2464, Thomasville, Ga. 31799-2464. John L. Stephens

John L. Stephens, Sr., 83, of Thomasville, died on July 30, 2003 in Whigham. The son of George Washington and Belle Hancock Stephens, he was born on October 28, 1919 in Grady County. He was married to Annie Lou Harwood Stephens, who survives. Mr. Stephens was a retired carpenter. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Lane Stephens, Jr. of Thomasville; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Wanda Faye Stephens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. Eleanor (Pat) Craw

Services for Eleanor (Pat) Craw, Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Eckard officiating. Interment will be in Gleneden Cemetery in Livonia, Mich. at a later date. Mrs. Craw died Wednesday, April 23 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 30, 1907 in New York, N.Y., the daughter of the late Martin Walker and Annie Raul Walker. She married Kenneth V. Craw who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1995. She was a retired home economics teacher from Glensfalls, N.Y. and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tallahassee, Fla. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Anna Craw; a daughter, Priscilla Craw of Thomasville; a brother, Harold Walker; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Dr. Israel Blake, pastor officiating, and interment is in St. Paul M.B. Church cemetery in Thomas County. Active pallbearers are brothers of the church and Anthony Pickett. Miss Fleno died April 21. Born May 29, 1973 in Thomasville, she was a daughter of Delois Robinson and Eugene Fleno, both of whom survive. She is a 1992 graduate of Thomas County Central High School and earned her certificate in CNA at Southwest Georgia Technical College in Thomasville. She was a health care provider at Heritage Health in Tallahassee, Fla. and a member of Disciples of Jesus Ministries in Thomasville. Survivors include a son, Reginald B. Williams of Thomasville; daughters, Caprina Z. Fleno, Jamiracle Hall, Bernasha N. Hall all of Thomasville; her mother, Delois (Roosevelt) Robinson all of Thomasville; her father, Eugene (Nadine) Fleno all of Thomasville; sisters, Lashonda Fleno, Tyreka Fleno all of Thomasville; grandmother, Quilla Robinson of Thomasville; aunts, Lillie Lovejoy, Mae Rene (Earl) Majors, Dorothy Poindexter all of Thomasville, Joyce Robinson of Patterson, N.J.; uncles, Booker T. Born April 9, 1920 in Ochlocknee, she was a daughter of the late Aaron and Emma Goldwire. She was married to Harrell Harris Sr. who preceded her in death in 1978 and she was a homemaker. She attended Stanton High School in Jacksonville, Fla., member of Little Bethel AME Church in Cairo where she was a Sunday school teacher, financial secretary, stewardess and class teacher. Survivors include daughters, Ann Vance, Marie Harris, Christine Davenport (Billy) all of Long Island, N.Y., Inell Crawford (Curtis) of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ruby Wiggins of Miami, Fla., Coree Todd (Edgar) of Miami, Etta (Earl) Richardson of Cairo; sons, James (Loretta) Harris of Cairo; sisters, Mamie Davis, Marie Randle both of San Diego, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. -- Cloud & Son Funeral Home

Mable Lucille Porter

Mable Lucille Porter, 80, of Niceville, Fla., passed away Friday, March 28, 2003. Born in Calhoun County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late William Tolbert and Zeffie C.B. Aycock Sills. She had worked for many years with IBM and the United States Civil Service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband, Thayer Porter of Niceville; brother, James Tucker Sills of Albany; brother-in-law, Louie Thomas Porter; sister-in-law, Nell Sills; and seven nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Niceville. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, with Bob Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Luther Cleveland "L.C." Chastain Jr.

Funeral services for Luther Cleveland "L.C." Chastain Jr. will be at 3 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church chapel with the Rev. Dan Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leon Scott, Roger Stewart, Chris Cowling, Michael Cowling, James Fleetwood, Donald Brinson, Tommy Williams, Jack Vonier and Mickey Dupree. Honorary pallbearer will be Carlton Parrish. Mr. Chastain died on March 28, 2003, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 10, 1921, in Thomas County to the late Luther Cleveland Chastain Sr. and Mary Harrell Chastain. He was a graduate of Thomasville High School in 1939 and was the owner of Southern Sand and Chastain Sand and Gravel, a member of First Baptist Church, VFW and the American Legion. He married Eloise Brinson Chastain on June 26, 1948, in Cairo. Survivors include his wife, Eloise Brinson Chastain of Thomasville; daughters, Connie Chastain Smith, Phyllis Chastain Nail and husband Jimmy and Vicki Chastain McGuyrt and husband Mack, all of Thomasville; son, Luther Cleveland "Chip" Chastain III of Thomasville; sisters, Eileen Chastain Dupree and O'Resa Chastain Dupree, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandsons, Ryan Dixon Smith and wife Carrie of Ackworth and James Edward "Jamie" Nail of Thomasville; granddaughters, Dana Smith Johns and husband Matt of Grayson, Kristin Nail Doane and husband Nathan of Thomasville, Amanda Marie Sringer of Valdosta and Whitney Lanier Smith of Thomasville and step-grandchild, James Wesley Nail. Born on May 21, 1948, he was the son of Floyd T. Huffmaster Sr. who survives and the late Euretha (Reynolds) Huffmaster. He was married to Donna (Martin) Huffmaster who survives. Mr. Huffmaster was an Army veteran and was employed by Dan Bain Service Center. Survivors include children, Crystal McEown, Josh McEown and Steven McEown, all of Ochlocknee; brother, Monroe Huffmaster of Thomasville; nieces, Robyn Lombardi, Phoebe Holmes, Erica Skidmore, Brandy Martin and Aubrey Cooper; nephews, Robert Huffmaster, Marcus Skidmore and Lynwood Thompson; and several great nieces and nephews. Julia Mae Carter Parker

Julia Mae Carter Parker, 81, a resident of Golden South Living Center in Tifton, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, with the Rev. John E. Cone officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Park Cemetery in Grady County. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Born May 10, 1926, in Calvary (Grady County) to the late Paul Cox and Eula Carter Cox, Mrs. Parker was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Parker Sr., who died Feb. 27, 1991, and one great-grandchild, Julia Wellborn. Mrs. Parker, formerly of Thomasville, had lived in Tifton since 1966. She was a homemaker and a retired salesclerk. She was a member of Carpenter Road Church of God. Mrs. Parker is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Johnnie L. Parker of Valdosta, Jack W. Parker Jr. and Carlie Parker of Tampa , Fla., and Jonathan W. Diane Williams

Services for Diane Williams, 51, of Thomasville, are 3 p.m. Saturday at New Jerusalem M.B. Church, 435 S. Stevens St., in Thomasville. The Rev. Daniel Smith will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Ms. Williams was born Dec. 17, 1955, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Lemar Williams and Emma Doris Brown Williams. She lived in Miami, Fla., before moving to Thomasville for 19 years. She also spent three months in Tallahassee, Fla. Ms. Williams was a long time clerk, but retired due to her health. She was a member of New Jerusalem M.B. Church. Ms. Williams died Dec. 13, 2007, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Survivors include sons, Terry Williams and Bryan Williams, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Doris Higgins of Tallahassee, Teresa Higgins of Valdosta and Letoya Higgins of Tallahassee; brothers, Steven Williams (Pearl) of Miami, Michael Williams of Valdosta and Lemar Steven Everett of Thomasville; special sister, Etta Smith of Ochlocknee; two uncles; four aunts; 14 grandchildren; and, a host of family and friends. The family will assemble at Hadley’s Funeral Home, 622 N. Broad St., at 2:15 p.m. for the funeral processional to New Jerusalem M.B. Church. Repass will be at the New Jerusalem M.B. Farris Alan George

Services celebrating the life of Farris “Alan” George are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 920 Thomasville Rd., Tallahassee, Fla. The Revs. Jim and Shari Hobby will officiate. Mr. George died Tuesday, December 18, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla., following an accident. Born May 23, 1955, in Gadsden, Ala., he was a son of Farris and Sibyl George. He was married for over 30 years to Karla Stanley George. He was the Parish Administrator at Trinity Anglican Church in Thomasville, which he was instrumental in founding in October of 2006. He was a gifted musician, worship leader, youth leader and Bible teacher. His gift of teaching and reaching youth and adults for Jesus Christ has changed the lives of countless people and his music has touched the hearts of thousands over the years. Previously, he was an administrator and leader at St. Thomas Church and Day School for over 20 years. During his years of ministry, he served the church in many capacities and was a leader in state and national youth and adult programs and renewal movements such as Cursillos in Christianity, the Kairos prison ministry, Happening, New Beginnings, Youth Quake, Dynamos, Anglican 4th Day and ACTS 29 Ministries. He served many local ministries including Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Community Transformation, and was always willing to share his gifts of leadership and music with our Christian community. He was also an avid outdoorsman and Eagle Scout. His great passions in his life were his faith, his family, his church and his music ministry. Survivors include his children, Rebekah George, Crystal and Christopher George; brothers and sisters, Sara and Chad George of Huntsville, Ala., Ginger and Sid Waits of Jacksonville, Fla., Kelli and Rick Stanley of Kansas City, Mo., Catherine Stanley of Gadsden, Ala.; mother and father in-law, Jodie and Charles Stanley of Gadsden; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Linda George and his brother-in-law, Chuck Stanley. The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Trinity Anglican Church at the corner of Jackson Street and Pinetree Boulevard. After the funeral service, the family will receive friends at Trinity Place, Mercy Seat Road, between Thomasville and Tallahassee.
