Maude Mae Ragan Morris

Services for Maudie Mae Ragan Morris, 86, Kingsland, are at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Harrell-Faircloth Chapel. The Rev. Darrell Owens will officiate and interment is in Rose Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers are grandsons and friends. Mrs. Morris died May 1 at Camden Medical Center in St. Marys. Born April 26, 1919 in Colquitt County, she was a daughter of the late Mary Magalene Ragan and Rufus J. Ragan. She was married to William Raford Morris who preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Auston Morris; daughter, Mary Ann Collier and husband, Jack; three brothers; four sisters; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Morris; eight grandchildren, Jackie and Shelby Ansley, William H. Collier, Chris and Amanda Collier, Robert C. Collier, Roger Allan Morris, Kristie and Sonny Gilbreth, William Morris, Nicole Morris and husband, Matt, Kristie and Barry Joiner; and 13 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Dale Morris. The family may be contacted at the home of Chris and Amanda Collier, 234 Mandy Lane off Benton Road, Ochlocknee. Henry Phillip Russell Jr.

Graveside services for Henry Phillip Russell Jr. are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Daniel Smoak and the Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mr. Russell, a retired dairy farmer and former state senator for the 10th District, died May 2. He was born July 6, 1916, and was one of 13 children born to Henry Phillip Russell and Leila Harris Russell both of whom preceded him in death. His wife of 62 years, Myrtis Dekle Russell, also preceded him in death. Mr. Russell attended and graduated from Thomasville High School and shortly thereafter entered the dairy business. With the outbreak of World War II, he entered the United States Navy and served as a member of the United States Naval Amphibious Corp with a period of active service in the Pacific Theater operations. After the war, he returned to Thomas County where he continued his dairy business. He was also active in civic affairs and veterans group. He was a member of the American Jersey Cattle Club and a director of the Georgia Jersey Cattle Club, past president of the Thomas County Livestock Association, an officer of the Allen-Cook American Legion Post No. 4995, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, chief of staff and vice commander of the State Department of the VFW, Thomas County Farm Bureau and Thomasville Elks Lodge. For six years, he was a member of the Thomas County Board of Commissioners where he served as chairman of the roads committee. He was elected to the Georgia State House of Representatives in 1960 and held that office as well as that of county commissioner during his first term. He served five terms in the House of Representatives and two terms in the Georgia State Senate. A lifelong Presbyterian, he attended the First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville during his formative years, was a member of the Boston Presbyterian Church for 30 years where he served as both a deacon and an elder; and at his death, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville. Survivors include a son, Henry Phillip Russell III (Hank) and his wife Peggy; a daughter, Sally Russell Blaine and her husband, Chris Blaine; grandchildren include Henry Russell IV (Hal) and wife Jill, Holly Russell Hurst and husband Terry, Audra Blaine, Rebecca Blaine, Kirk Blaine; great-grandchildren include Jacob Russell, Jared Russell, Abby Hurst, Caleb Hurst and Leila Hurst. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boston Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 99, Boston, Ga. 31626. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the home of Holly Russell Hurst, 927 Sally St., Boston. - Allen & Allen Funeral Home

Graveside services for Erline Shiver Register, 55, Ochlocknee, are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Jimmy Benton will officiate. Mrs. Register died May 2 at her residence. Born Jan. 12, 1950 in Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Green J. Shiver and Leacy Luke Shiver. She was married to James H. Register on Nov. 29, 1990 in Thomasville. She had lived in the Thomasville area most of her life and was a transport escort for oversize load transports. Survivors include her husband, James H. Register of Ochlocknee; four sisters, Joyce Willis of Cairo, Christine Dean of Baconton, Betty Benton, Linda Holland both of Thomasville; a brother, Preston Shiver of Valdosta; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Shiver; and a sister, Pauline Benton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home. - Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home

Services for Christine Ferrell Watts are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo. Pastor Johnny Moore will officiate and interment is in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Mrs. Watts died Saturday, April 30 in Thomasville. Born Aug. 6,1929 in Calvary, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Zeola Lambert Ferrell. She was married to Ermon Watts who died in 1980. She was retired and a member of Family Worship Center in Cairo. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar Lee and Wylene Watts of Atlanta, John Wesley and Linda Watts of Jacksonville, Fla., Guy Neal and Paula Watts of Cairo; sisters, Catherine Pearce of Montgomery, Ala., Claudeen Jones of Climax, Eva Jones of Panama City, Fla.; grandchildren, Jonathan Watts of Tallahassee, Fla., Christie Mack of Key West, Fla., Melissa Mancill of Vancouver, Wash. and Daniel Watts of Cairo. - Clark Funeral Home

Interment is in Fredonia Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. Barnes died Thursday, April 21 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born May 9, 1943 in Thomas County, he was a son of the late Charles Oren Clyde Barnes Sr. and Hilda Inez Myrick. He was married to Mary Jane Barnes. He was stationed in Germany during his time of service to his country in the U.S. Army and a member of Fredonia Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Barnes of Pelham; sons, James Bradley Barnes, Michael Stinnett and wife, Melissa of Cairo; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Lamb and husband, James of Cairo, Vena Lynn Stinnett of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; grandchildren, Amber Singletary, Melony Singletary, Collin Stinnett, Jared Strickland, Christopher Bradley Barnes; brother, Clyde Barnes Jr. and wife, Margie of Cairo; nieces, Hazel Hester, Linda Martin, Dyna Wilson and Inez Attardi. He was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Barnes; daughter, Heather Suzanne Barnes; and a sister, Hilda Ann Aaron. Graveside services for Marolyn Sumner Holt, 68, Birmingham, Ala., are at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Mrs. Holt died April 20 in Birmingham. Born in Thomasville and moved to Cairo at age six months, she graduated from Cairo High School. She attended Valdosta State College in Valdosta and married her college sweetheart, Jim Holt, in January 1958. After leaving Cairo, they relocated to Birmingham. She was of the Baptist faith and a wife, mother and homemaker. Survivors include son, Mitchell (MItch) Holt Jr. of Birmingham; daughter, Donna Holt Duncan and husband, Craig of Birmingham; twin sister, Carolyn S. Walker and husband, Jimmy B. Walker Sr. of Valdosta; sister, June S. White and husband, Jim W. White Sr. of Cairo; nephews and nieces, Lewis Sumner of Birmingham, Gary Sumner of Cairo, Andy Sumner of Cairo, Karen Sumner of Atlanta, Jimmy White Jr. of Cairo, Jeff White of Thomasville, Cynthia (Cindy) White Camilleri of Barnardsville, N.C., Jimmy B. Walker Jr. of Valdosta and Christopher (Chris) M. Walker of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey M. and Esther Reddick Sumner; husband, James M. Mrs. Travis died April 15 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Center in Pelham. Born Jan. 26, 1940 in Tift County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Roger Davis and Annie Stewart Davis. She was married to Arthur J. Travis Sr. who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, member of New Bethel M.B. Church where she served on the usher board. Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Mitchell of Atlanta; son and his wife, Arthur L. Travis Jr. and Lisa of Atlanta; daughter and her husband, Dora Blount and Theodore of Augusta; son and his wife, Lonnie Travis and Mae of Thomasville; daughter, Sylvia Travis; daughter and her husband, Anita McIntyre and Norris of Thomasville; 11 grandchildren; sister, Betty Davis of Thomasville; brothers, R.C. Frank Jacob Chamberlin III

Frank Jacob Chamberlin III, Cairo, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at his residence. Born Aug. 15, 1924 in Hersey City, N.J., he was a son of the late Frank Jacob Chamberlin Jr. and Emily Kepper Chamberlin. He was married to Katherine Koryga Chamberlin of Cairo. He was a retired sales manager of Haagen-Dazs Corp. and member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Cairo. He was also a member of Golden K Kiwanis and American Legion Post 122. Mr. Chamberlin served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Koryga Chamberlin of Cairo; daughters, Cynthia Chamberlin of Clifton, N.J., Sandra Mudra of Cairo; a son, Frank Jacob Chamberlin IV of Windsor, N.Y.; grandchildren, Frank Jacob Chamberlin V of Nashville, Tenn., Wendi Lee Chamberlin of New Jersey, Sarah Whitney Ezra of Thomasville; and a great-granddaughter, Phoebe Katherine Ezra of Thomasville. A memorial service for Frank Jacob Chamberlin III will be at 4 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Cairo. Father Jacek Szuster will officiate. Mr. Chamberlin died at his home Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Cairo. He was born in Hersey City, N.J. Aug. 15, 1924, to the late Frank Jacob Chamberlin Jr. and Emily Keppler Chamberlin. He was a retired sales manager for Haagen-Daz and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Cairo. He also was a member of the Golden K and American Legion Post 122 and served in the United States Navy. Funeral services for Willie C. West, 80, of Cairo, will be at Bethlehem A.M.E. Church in Cairo April 19, 2005, at noon. Burial will follow, at Crestview Cemetery in Cairo. The Rev. W.F. Griffin will officiate. Active pallbearers include Ronald White, Bruce Gurley, Ronnie Gurley, Otis Byrden and Johnny Donaldson. Honorary pallbearers include Elijah Franklin, American Legion Post #544, of Cairo. Mr. West died April 15, 2005, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Mr. West was a laborer and life-time Cairo resident. He was born in Grady County July 28, 1924 to the late Charles and Ethel West. He was married to the late Corris Mathis. He was a World War II veteran, a member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Church and attended the Grady County school system. He is survived by daughters, Terry West and Tryphenia (David) Addison, both of Cairo, Lois (Moses) Hurt and Betty (Frank) Thomas, both of Atlanta, a son, Charles P. West, of Cairo; a son, David (Wendy) West, of Atlanta; a son, Willie C. West, of Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Margurie Mathis, of Cairo; a brother, Charlie B. West, of McClenny, Fla.; a sister, Annette (Mack) Kennedy, of East Orange, N.J.; sisters Martha Bryant and Josephine Moses, both of Newark, N.J.; a sister, Mary (the Rev. Mrs. Williams died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Haven House in Roswell. Born Sept. 23, 1912, in Grady County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Bennett and Floy Sasser Hall. She was married to T.J. Williams who preceded her in death on July 21, 1996. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Ken Thrash of Dawsonville; grandchildren Maria Thrash of Alpharetta, Mary Frances and Steve Heldt of Minnestrita, Minn., Matt and Kelly Thrash of Dawsonville; and great-grandchild, Dale Strong of Minnestrita. Mrs. Aldridge died Wednesday, April 13 at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville. Born April 11, 1912 in Thomas County, she was a daughter of the late Hugo Jackson and Julie Langley Jackson. She was married to J.T. Aldridge on Aug. 28, 1933 in Colquitt County, who preceeded her in death on July 1, 1974. She was a homemaker and a member of Boston Church of God. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and Frank Council of Thomasville; sons, Fred (Jack) Aldridge, Floyd Aldridge both of Ochlocknee; brother, Haywood Jackson of Morgan City, La.; sisters, Joyce Murleen Jackson of Thomasville, Doris Chastain of Valdosta; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by a son, Yewl Aldridge; five brothers, Leonard Jackson, J.Lloyd Jackson, Henry Jackson, Theodore Ted-Jackson, William Hugo Jackson; and three sisters, Julie Elizabeth (Velma) Jackson Hamilton, Shirley Botiney Jackson Hobbs and Inez Jackson Benton. Services for Thelma Louise Barnes, 89, 215 Hayes St., Thomasville, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Willowhead Missionary Baptist Church, 615 E. Calhoun St., Thomasville. Elder Silas Brinson, pastor officiating, and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are deacons of Willowhead Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Barnes died April 10 in Thomasville. Born Nov. 8, 1915 in Thomasville, she was married to Holton Barnes who preceded her in death. She attended Thomasville city schools and a member of International Benevolent Society and Willowhead Missionary Baptist Church. She had lived here for 70 years after moving from Youngstown, Ohio. Mrs. Barnes was a cook, nurse and homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Legirtha Jones of Hinesville; grandson, Anthony Barnes of Thomasville; granddaughters, Deborah Simmons, Anita Cadenis both of Hinesville, Cassandra Raymos of Columbus, Pamela Thomas, Charlotte Jones both of Hinesville; grandsons, Hector Jones of Miami, Fla., Eric Jones, Robert Jones both of Hinesville; 15 great-grandchildren; devoted friends, Louise Sapp and William B. Sapp of Thomasville; and a host of other relatives and friends. A son, Jimmy Barnes preceded her in death. Viewing is from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 1:30 p.m., Saturday until the service at the church.
