Ouida Mathis Rogers

Ouida Mathis Rogers, 78, of Jesup diedSunday, Dec. 3 at her residence after an extended illness. The Clinch County native had lived in Wayne County for the past 40 years. She was a business woman, homemaker and Baptist. Survivors are five daughters, Dot Cameron, Ann Grantham and Pam Parks all of Jesup, Jonelle McGauley of Rolling Prairie, IN and Debbie Davis of Brunswick; two sons, Jackie B. Mathis of Crested Butte, CO and Bill Mathis of Jesup; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Dec. 5 from the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sherman Reed and Durwood Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of South Georgia, Inc., 181 North Brunswick St., Jesup, GA 31546. The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of the arrangements.

Imogene C. Martin

Imogene C. Martin, 69, of Jesup diedSunday, Dec. 3 of an apparent heart attack. The Echols County native lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a retired employee of ITT-Rayonier. She was a member of the Jesup First United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., Circle No. 3 and was on the worship committee. She was also a member of the Ben Gibbs Chapter No. 299, O.E.S., the Altamaha Womens Club, the Optimist Club, active in the Good Samaritan Center and was a former Girl Scout Leader. Survivors are her husband, Layton L. Martin of Jesup; three daughters, Mary Catherine Boggs of Jacksonville, FL, Belinda Zimmerman of Macon and Lamara Partain of Comer; a son, Layton L. Martin Jr. of Jesup; a sister, Juanita Turner of Darien; two brothers, W.D. Counts of Jesup and A.L. Counts of Waycross; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Julian Tucker and the Rev. Stephen Grantham officiating. iIntermentwill be in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James A. Knight, Willie Williams, Franklin Smith, Don Barnhart, Jimmy Davis and Winton L. Westberry Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelton Mobley, Jack Smith, the 1949 Graduating Class of Jesup High School, Circle No. 3, Volunteers of the Good Samaritan Center and the Church Family. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jesup First United Methodist Church, 205 E. Cherry St., Jesup, GA 31546 or the Good Samaritan Center, P.O. Box 1464, Jesup, GA 31598. The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of the arrangements.

Palmer H. Adams

Palmer H. Adams, 74, of Jesup diedSaturday, Dec. 2 in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. The Thomas County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life. Survivors are two sisters, Jeanette Sapp of Jesup and Geneva Cason of Surrency; three brothers, Dennis Adams of Screven, Bennie Adams of Townsend and Tommy Adams of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday Dec. 4 at the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Todd and Dr. Bill Rathbun officiating. iIntermentwas in the Satilla Cemetery in Brantley County. Active pallbearers were Denny Adams, B.G. Adams, Jason Adams, Dale Cason, Burton Lee Sapp and James Sapp. The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of the arrangements.

Cathy C. Jennings

Cathy C. Jennings, 30, of Jesup diedThursday Nov. 30 from injuries received in an automobile accident. A native and life-long resident of Wayne County, she was also a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Christol Green of Jesup; two sons, Cornelius Jennings of Macon and Kendall Wilson of Jesup; her parents, Edward Jennings of Valdosta and Mary Jennings of Jesup; one brother, Edward Jennings Jr. of Jesup; one sister, Nicole Jennings of Jesup; paternal grandmother, Barnetta Roundtree of Live Oak, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church of Jesup with the Rev. Dwayne Attical officiating. Burial will be in Jesup City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday Dec. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home Chapel. Royal Funeral Home, Inc. of Jesup is in charge of all arrangements.

Theron S. Kirkland

Theron S. Kirkland, 58, of Vidalia diedSaturday Dec. 2 at his residence after a brief illness. Kirkland was a native of Wayne County, residing in Vidalia for the past 11 years. Before his illness he was a millrite employed by Rayonier of Jesup, a Vietnam Veteran and was Protestant by faith. Kirkland is survived by his wife, Mollie Kirkland of Vidalia; two sons, Phillip Newsome of St. Louis, MO and Jimmy Newsome of Vidalia; two daughters, Mary Ann Newsome of Hokes Bluff, AL and Teresa Majors of Vidalia; four brothers, James, Tommy, Clarence and William Kirkland all of Jesup; three sisters, Lula Mae Tharp and Christine Brewer both of Jesup and Mayme Sanderlin of Windsor, NC; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday Dec. 5 at the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Rev. Harris Nix and the Rev. Leon Gibson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jade Kirkland, William Perry, Phillip Newsome, Robert Pritchett, Brian Kirkland and Larry Sanderlin. Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service of Vidalia was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Odell Clinton Hutto

Odell Clinton Hutto, 80, of Screven diedMarch 30 at his residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native lived most of his life in Wayne County and was a member of the Ritch Missionary Baptist Church in Screven. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and a retired employee from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Maxine Deal Hutto of Screven; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Leo Brant of Screven, Sheila and Reggie Beckham of West Columbia, SC, and Sharon and John Hunter of Weldon, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Rachel Hutto of Woodhaven, MI; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda Faye Hutto and Jeff Williams of Baxley; a brother, Ivey “Buster” Hutto of Baxley; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Ledbetter officiating. iIntermentwas in the Lake Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandchildren. The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle (West) O'Quinn

Myrtle (West) O'Quinn, 76, of Jesup diedMarch 29 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a Baptist. Survivors are two sisters, Anita Manning and Jackie Hires, both of Jesup; two brothers, Harold T. Anderson of Greenville, SC, and J.H. Moose Anderson of Jesup; a niece, Agie Davis of Jesup; a nephew, Junior Dawson of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lord and the Rev. Jerry Greer officiating. iIntermentwas in Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her nephews. The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie O. (Banks) Carter

Minnie O. (Banks) Carter, 96, of Screven diedMarch 31 at her residence after a long illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Screven, a member of First African Baptist Church and an honorary member of almost every auxiliary of the church. Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Bishop and Alice Carter of Panama City, FL; four daughters and a son-in-law, Virgie and Alfonzo Walker of Savannah, Ireatha Carter of Savannah and Delphia James and Lu-Vicy Roberson of Screven; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First African Baptist Church in Screven with the Rev. G.W. Anthony Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Screven City Cemetery. A wake will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home Chapel. Royal Funeral Home Inc. of Jesup is in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald R. Coleman

Gerald R. Coleman, 76, of Jesup diedWednesday, June 13, in the SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Jesup after an extended illness. The Sanilac County, MI, native had lived in Wayne County for 14 years. He was retired from General Motors, Inc. in Pontiac, MI, and was a member of the U.A.W. Local No. 594 of Pontiac, MI. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Survivors are three stepdaughters, Virginia Little of Jesup, Mary Lou Bowen of Tucson, AZ, and Carolyn Koss of Detroit, MI; two step-sons, John Bowen of Zephyrhills, FL, and Martin Bowen of Fairgrove, MI; four sisters, Ruth Galbraith of Jeddo, MI, Hilda Clark of Hastings, MI, Janet Williams of Houghton, MI, and Virginia Stone of Croswell, MI; four brothers, Bert Coleman of Mount Clemons, MI, Guy Coleman of Snover, MI, Raymond Coleman of Jenison, MI and Stewart Coleman of Lexington, MI; 16 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence B. Coleman. Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Gibson officiating. iIntermentwas in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Alex Lopez, Elmer Lewis, Vernon Lewis, Lamar Barwick, Mark Clark and Jimmy Roberson. Faye C. Teston

Faye C. Teston, 70, of Jesup diedTuesday, June 12, at her residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was a member of the Anderson Drive Baptist Church and a member and past president of the Jesup Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Ben Gibbs Chapter No. 299, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired employee of ITT Rayonier, where she worked for 39 years. Survivors are her husband, Ernest Teston of Jesup; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Tina Teston of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca T. and Ken Schmackpfeffer of Jesup; four sisters, Burnese Darsey of Baxley, Bonnie McManus and Tinker Bennett, both of Brunswick, and Vivian Hazen of St. Simons Island; a brother, D.S. Carter of Lithia Springs; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Brown and the Rev. Joseph Guthrie officiating. iIntermentwas in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were James Tyre, John B. Johnson, Richard Burns, Larry Brantley, Roy Purvis, Todd Faircloth and John Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were Janice Purvis, Joanne Crews, Dean Tyre, Bill Thurmon, members of the Jesup Shrine Club Auxiliary, employees and retired employees of the Rayonier laboratory, and the Wayne County Hospice nurses. The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of the arrangements.

Louise Poppell

Louise Poppell, 96, diedThursday, June 13, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness. The Miami, FL, native had lived in Wayne County for the past 86 years. She retired in 1968 from the Wayne County Extension Service. She was a member of the Jesup First United Methodist Church, Circle No. 1 and the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class. Survivors are a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bill Harrell of Demopolis, AL; a brother, Dan Poppell of Jesup; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside funeral services were held in Piney Grove Cemetery Friday with the Rev. Stephen Grantham officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jesup First United Methodist Church, 205 East Cherry Street, Jesup, GA 31546. Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of the arrangements.

Jane Slover Scott

Jane Slover Scott, 71, of Satellite Beach, FL, diedTuesday, June 12, at home following an extended illness. She was bornand raised in Jesup, the daughter of the late Horace and Margaret Breen Slover. She and her husband moved to Brevard County in 1955, where they resided in Eau Gallie. In 1966, they moved to the New York City area. In 1989, upon retirement, they returned to Brevard and settled in Tortoise Island in Satellite Beach. She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Scott of Satellite Beach, FL, and a son, Charles Scott Jr. of Brooklyn, NY. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles in Satellite Beach. In lieu of flowers, prayers would be greatly appreciated. Beach Funeral Home of Satellite Beach was in charge of the arrangements.

Delores Nixon

Delores Nixon, 37, of Jesup diedSunday, Jan. 27 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness. The Clinch County native had lived in Wayne County for most of her life. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors are two daughters, Kayla N. Mixon and Latrivia S. Nixon, both of Jesup; her mother, Leona Nixon of Jesup; her father, David L. Nixon, II of Alma; her godfather, Curtis Melton of Jesup; two sisters, Victoria D. Meredith of Jacksonville, FL, and Lillian Nixon of MacClenny, FL; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, David L. and Sabrina Nixon, Jr., Landis Nixon and Dwight and Regina Nixon, all of Atlanta and Marshall and Demetrius Nixon of Pelham and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at Unity Church of God with the Rev. George Moxley and Pastor Sarah Jenkins officiating. Burial has been scheduled for Jesup City Cemetery. Royal Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
