MR. CROWE
Building contractor
CORNELIA - Curtis Crowe, 81, diedMonday, July 5, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Crowe was bornMarch 31, 1918. He was a son of the late John Grover and Mallie Garrison Crowe.
Mr. Crowe was a retired building contractor of 30 years and was retired as Volunteer Captain of the Cornelia Fire Department, with 34 years of service. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Crowe was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Lewallen Crowe, a daughter, Betty Moss, a brother, Roy Crowe, and a granddaughter, Lisa Crowe Tilly.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, in the South Chapel of Whitfield Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Tony Kemp officiating. Burial will be in the Level Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Gayle Whitener, Clarkesville, Jacque Evans, Demorest, Gloria Rogers, Tiger, and Debra Crowe, Cornelia; four sons, Bobby Crowe and Tommy Crowe, both of Demorest, Nelson Crowe, Cornelia, and Larry Crowe, Baldwin; one brother, J.D. Crow, Tallulah Falls; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Whitfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MR. BROWN
Banks County native
ANNISTON, ALA. - Paul David Brown Jr., 58, diedWednesday, June 30, 1999, in Kansas.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Brown was a resident of Anniston for most of his life. He was a son of Reba Brown, Hollingsworth, and the late Paul David Brown Sr.
Mr. Brown was employed with Logistics NGS Industries and was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Memorial services were held Friday, July 2, in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Oxford, Ala., with the Rev. Ronnie Adams officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Nancy Brown; one daughter, Kimberly Marshall; one son, Tim Brown; two sisters, Bobbie Dalton and Betty Caudell, both of Hollingsworth; and four grandchildren, Tabitha and Heather Brown and Jessica and Dylan Marshall.
Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. HELTON
Truck driver
BALDWIN - Hershel G. Helton Jr., 54, diedThursday, July 1, 1999, at Emory University Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Union County, Mr. Helton was a son of the late Hershel G. Helton Sr. and Grace May Helton.
He was employed as a truck driver with Brock's Trucking Co. and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Helton was preceded in death by a son, Terry Ray Helton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 3, at Baldwin Church of God with the Revs. Danny O'Kelly and Bobby Burke officiating. Burial was in Baldwin Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Heaton Helton; two sons, Greg Helton, Baldwin, and Jerry Lee Helton, Clarkesville; three sisters, Doris Poore and Joyce Helton, both of Anniston, Ala., and Betty Moore, Boaz, Ala.; one brother, Jerry Looney, Anniston, Ala.; and five granddaughters.
Whitfield Funeral Home, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. BAKER
Homemaker
GAINESVILLE - Mrs. Dora Vienia Pittman Baker, 85, diedMonday, July 5, 1999.
A native of Hall County, Mrs. Baker was bornJuly 17, 1913. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Dora Wiley Pittman.
Mrs. Baker was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Talor Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jounior Swain officiating. Burial will be in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson.
Survivors include one son, Emanuel Clinton Baker, Gainesville; one daughter, Bobbie Redmon, Homer; two sisters, Margie Barrett, Nicholson, and Vernie Wiley, Commerce; 15 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a special friend, Larry Wilson.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Little-Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MR. ERWIN
SHMS honor roll student
CORNELIA - Matthew D. "Bubba" Erwin, 14, diedSunday, July 4, 1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Erwin was bornin Habersham County on November 28, 1984. He was a son of Steve and Charlene Hunt Erwin, Cornelia.
Mr. Erwin was a rising freshman at Habersham Central High School. He played recreation football and was teaching himself to play the keyboard.
A peer mediator at South Habersham Middle School, Mr. Erwin was a honor roll student, and loved camping. He was a member of Friendly Mission Baptist Church.
Mr. Erwin was preceded in death by grandparents, Claud Erwin and Charles Hunt, and great-grandparents, Marion and Pauline Crow, Alley Crow and Dr. and Mrs. D.H. Garrison.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at Friendly Mission Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny O'Kelly, Mike Wilson and Paul Morris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two sisters, Lacey and Jessica Erwin, both of Cornelia; grandparents, Dorothy Erwin, Cornelia, and Ed and Ramona Stevens, Clarkesville; and two nephews, Taylor and Brandon Mitchell, both of Cornelia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Egleston Children's Hospital, 1405 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30322, the Ronald McDonald House, 792 Houston Mill Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329, or the Intensive Care Unit, 2nd Floor, c/o Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 743 Spring Street N.E., Gainesville, GA 30501.

MRS. STROUD
Homemaker
CORNELIA - Mrs. Inez S. Stroud, 82, diedMonday, July 5, 1999, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Stroud was bornin Habersham County on August 17, 1916. She was a daughter of the late Cleland Kinlow "C.K." and Texie Bramblett Simmons.
Mrs. Stroud was a homemaker and worked at The Steak House. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Stroud was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Fonclara, and her second husband, Leo Stroud. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Simmons, and three sisters, Mae Mize, Lillie Meeks and Thelma Johnson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 7, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Austin Kelley and P.J. Hulsey officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Linda Fonclara, Cornelia; one sister, Sally Starr, Hollywood; grandchildren, Cole Fonclara, Demorest, Flint Fonclara, Statesboro, and Robin Fonclara, Jefferson; and two great-grandchildren, Lance and Daniel Fonclara, both of Demorest.
McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. KINSEY
Retired secretary
SUMTER, S.C. - Mrs. Dorothy Walker Kinsey, 86, diedMonday, July 5, 1999, at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Kinsey was bornin Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late Acie Columbus Walton Walker and Amanda Jane Rider Walker.
Mrs. Kinsey was a retired secretary and a member of Demorest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Kinsey.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 8, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia. Burial will be in Demorest City Cemetery.
Survivors include one niece, Ann S. King, Sumter, S.C.; one nephew, Walton Sisk, Salisbury, N.C.; and one great-nephew, James R. King, Sumter, S.C.
The family was to have received friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home.

Nathaniel H. Shelnutt
Nathaniel Henry Shelnutt, infant son of James Anthony and Brenda Amanda Lynn Giddeons Shelnutt, Danielsville, diedThursday, June 24, 1999.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 26, in Colbert Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Giddeons officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Toni Dennise Shelnutt, Danielsville.

Gertrude B. Strickland
Mrs. Gertrude Bridges Strickland, 82, Commerce, diedFriday, June 25, 1999, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Strickland was bornFebruary 13, 1917. She was a daughter of the late Clifford Lee and Ada Phelps Bridges.
Mrs. Strickland was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.F. Strickland.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brad Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Moons Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Troy Strickland, Commerce; and two grandchildren.

Frank W. Gaines
Frank William Gaines, 76, of Hartwell, diedSunday, June 27, 1999, at Elbert Memorial Hospital, Elberton.
A native of Hart County, Mr. Gaines was a son of the late Leonard Gaines and Mae Stamps Gaines.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from the City of Hartwell Sanitation Department. Mr. Gaines was also a farmer. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Men's Club. Mr. Gaines was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Gaines, and a sister, Mary Frances Gaines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church with the Revs. Al Key and Curtis Parker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Members of the United Methodist Men's Club served as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Mayola Lawrence Gaines; one son, Ricky Gaines, Hartwell; three daughters, Patricia Parker, Comer, Connie Eaves, Hartwell, and Brenda Carruth, Hartwell; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 2207 Cokesbury Highway, Hartwell, GA 30643 or to United Hospice, 700 South Enota, Suite 202, Gainesville, GA 30501.
