Clarence H. Matthews
Clarence Harold Matthews, 87, of Nicholson, died Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Matthews was born March 22, 1914. He was a son of the late Homer Milton and Lillie Mae Greene Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a carpenter and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at Antioch United Methodist Church with the Revs. Richard Cathy and Mike Mims officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Edna Louise Guyton Matthews, Nicholson; one son, Rusty Matthews, Nicholson; three daughters, Patrice Ayers, Donna Fortson and Denise Matthews, all of Nicholson; one brother, Jim Matthews, Nicholson; three sisters, Opal Fields, Athens, and Vera Jackson and Hallie Matthews, both of Nicholson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold W. Johnson
Harold W. Johnson, 63, of Commerce, died Monday, Dec-ember 10, 2001.
Mr. Johnson was born January 6, 1938, in Dayton, Ky. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a security officer. Mr. Johnson was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Ray Richardson and Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Johnson is survived by a special friend, Zelma Smith, Commerce; one brother, Eugene Johnson, Dayton, Ky.; and one sister, Vicki McDonald, Fontona, Calif.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Donna J. Neely
Mrs. Donna Jean Neely, 68, of Commerce, died Wednesday, December 5, 2001.
A native of Lawrence County, Ind., Mrs. Neely was the daughter of the late Clarence and Marie Byers Reynolds.
She was employed with Wal-Mart, working in the jewelry department, and had worked for Pacific Bell in California and Southern Bell in Louisiana. She also worked many years for Max Factor Cosmetics in Hollywood, Calif.
Mrs. Neely belonged to the Professional Business Association of Huntsville, Mo. She was a professional seamstress and loved sewing evening gowns, said family members. Her hobbies included knitting afghan quilts and baking candies and pies.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at Grove Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Williams officiating.
Mrs. Neely is survived by her husband, Floyd E. Neely, Commerce; two sons, Rick W. Neely, Nicholson, and Steve Neely, Livermore, Calif.; one daughter, Debra Brandis, Danielsville; one brother, Jim Reynolds, Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donna Neely Fund, c/o Community Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 59, Commerce, GA 30529.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Grady Green
Grady Green, 48, of Maysville, died Sunday, December 9, 2001.
Mr. Green was a native of Fulton County. He was employed in construction and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Auburn, with the Rev. Jimmy Dunn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Karen Lily Hayes Green, Maysville; two sons, Grady Lee Green Jr. and Robert Dwayne Green, both of Maysville; his mother, Mrs. Ethel Mae Green, Winder; three brothers, William Carter Green Jr., Auburn, and David Daniel Green and Billy Ray Green, both of Winder; two sisters, Annie Sue Green Scruggs and Regina Ann Green, both of Auburn; two grandchildren, four nieces and four nephews.
Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, was in charge of arrangements.

John T. Ferguson
John Thomas Ferguson, 49, of Gillsville, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Born November 17, 1952, in Jackson County, Mr. Ferguson was a son of Lillie Mae Tate Ferguson, Gillsville, and the late William Patrick Ferguson.
He was employed with Wrigley’s and was of the Methodist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, at Midway United Methodist Church with the Revs. Marshall Dale and Phil Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Midway Cemetery, Gillsville.
Survivors include five brothers, Benjamin J. Ferguson, James P. Ferguson, Richard A. Ferguson and Robert E. Ferguson, all of Gillsville, and William L. Ferguson, Springdale, Ark.; and two sisters, Patsy Davis, Homer, and Joan Faust, Hartwell.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Rosalyn B. Gillespie
Mrs. Rosalyn Braselton Gillespie, a resident of Albany, died Wednesday, December 11, 2001, at Palmyra Medical Center.
Mrs. Gillespie was born in Braselton on October 7, 1911, the daughter of Green and May Duncan Braselton.
She was a graduate of Braselton High School and Brenau College. Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ridley Gillespie, M.D., a pediatrician in Laurel, Miss.
Following Dr. Gillespie’s death in 1964, she moved to Albany in 1970, where her son, Charles Braselton Gillespie, M.D., practiced orthopedic surgery. Soon after her arrival, Mrs. Gillespie was employed by the Carriage Trade gift shop, where she worked until January 2001. She was a member of Porterfield United Methodist Church, Albany, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a life member of the Junior Auxiliary.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 15, in the family cemetery in Braselton.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Gillespie, Albany; daughter, Ann Gillespie Sparkman, Columbus and Macon, Miss.; siblings, Green Braselton Jr., Conyers, Allene Braselton Laird, Sun City, Ariz., and Herbert B. Braselton Sr., Braselton; four grandchildren, Leslie Thomas Peel, Columbus, Miss., Betsy Thomas Caulk, Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Charles Frederick Gillespie, Augusta, and Kathy Gillespie Baker, Albany; and three great-grandchildren, Lawson and Hayden Peel and Raines Baker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Porterfield United Methodist Church, 2200 Dawson Road, Albany, GA 31707, to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 318 College Street, Columbus, MS 39701, or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home, Albany.

Sheila W. Herrin
Mrs. Sheila W. Herrin, 51, of Gainesville, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Herrin was a daughter of the late Herman and Kathleen Harvey Webb.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Clack Stubbs officiating. Burial was in Hillside Gardens, Gainesville.
Mrs. Herrin is survived by her husband, David P. Herrin, Gainesville; two sons, David L. Herrin, Gainesville, and Michael Scott Herrin, Jefferson; two brothers, Bobby Webb, Lavonia, and Lamar Delatore, Dalton; two sisters, Linda Nash, Tucker, and Gayle Delatore, Key West, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Hillside Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bill Hembree
Bill Hembree, 66, of Athens, died Sunday, December 9, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Hembree was a son of the late Felton and Susie Meadow Hembree.
He retired from Thomas Textile in 1988 and was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Buford Lockman and Elmer Butler officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Jimmy Hembree, Mike Hembree, Rusty Hembree, Mitch Teat, Gerald Maddox and Dennis Coker served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jackie Roberts Hembree; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sandi Hembree, and granddaughter, Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dennis Cook, and granddaughter, Katie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ree and Hubert Logan and Mary Ruth and Sonny Stancell; brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Agnes Hembree; sister-in-law, Barbara Roberts Teat; brother-in-law and caregiver, Larry Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert W. Adams
Robert W. Adams, 80, of Athens, died Sunday, December 9, 2001.
A native of Hall County, Mr. Adams was a son of the late Robert Washington and Martha Stover Adams.
He was a retired supervisor of sanitation with the City of Athens and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by two children, Teresa Davis and Clarence Casper.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Buford Lockman and Curtis Greene officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Douglas Bellamy, Harvey James, Jimmy Crowe, William Merck, Jamie McDaniel and Thomas McDaniel Jr. served as pallbearers.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Mary Adams; two daughters, Shirley Merck and Denese McDaniel, both of Athens; three sons, Tim Adams and Wayne Adams, both of Winder, and Thomas Casper, Monroe; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Myron Leckie
The Rev. Myron Leckie, 73, of Gainesville, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Hall County, Mr. Leckie was born May 5, 1928. He was the son of the late Ad Cook and Leah Leckie.
Mr. Leckie was a graduate of Airline School and attended Truett-McConnell College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a barber for 45 years. Mr. Leckie worked at Hooper & Leckie Barber Shop in the Dixie Hunt Hotel and at Larry McClureis Barber Shop until his illness.
He was an ordained minister and served as pastor at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Statham, and Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Pendergrass. The Rev. Leckie also served as interim pastor at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Gainesville, and Center Grove Baptist Church, Pendergrass. Prior to his ministry, he was a longtime choir director and Sunday School teacher at Hopewell Baptist Church, Gainesville, and began the churchis first bus ministry.
Mr. Leckie was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge No. 219 F&AM.
'He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather,' said family members, 'always willing to do for others in order to bring a little sunshine into their lives.'
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Nelson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 10, at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Robbie Foster and David Sosebee officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Gainesville. W.T. Sosebee, Pete Smith, Lamar England, Randy Ragan, Lonzo Perry and Jack Coley served as pallbearers. Bill Perry was honorary pallbearer.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Louise Southers Leckie, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Tobey and Teresa Leckie, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Tona and Jeff Nelson, Demorest; granddaughters, Anna and Lydia Nelson, both of Demorest; sister and brother-in-law, Elteen and Hoyt Collins, New Holland; and a number of other relatives, many nieces and nephews and friends.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Wardis Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.
