Ruth Howington
Miss Ruth Howington, 88, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Miss Howington was born April 13, 1916, in Jackson County. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Dora Tolbert Howington.
Miss Howington retired from Commerce Sportswear and was a member of Cabin Creek Baptist Church. She also attended Nicholson Congregational Holiness Church. Miss Howington was the last immediate survivor of her family.
“She was a beloved aunt, loved by her nieces and nephews and all who knew her,” it was stated.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Curtis Greene officiating. Burial was in the Cabin Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Miss Howington is survived by 25 nieces and nephews.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William ‘Bill’ Moore
William “Bill” Moore, 80, of Jefferson, formerly of Atlanta, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at his residence after a sudden illness.
Mr. Moore was born March 15, 1924, in Fulton County. He was the son of the late Arthur and Gloria Dixie Pitts Moore.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Moore served during World War II. He was a printer, and later worked as a security officer. He was a member of Galilee Christian Church, Jefferson.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by two daughters, Darlene Luke and Deborah Bodiford.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Galilee Christian Church with Minister Tom Plank officiating.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Nellie Jo Moore, Jefferson; a daughter, Cheryl Johnson, Jefferson; and a grandson, Sean Robert Johnson.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Van Replacement Fund, P.O. Box 873, Oakwood, GA 30566.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, was in charge of arrangements.

Kay A. Page
Mrs. Kay Arnold Page, 51, of Athens, died Friday, June 11, 2004.
Born in Jackson County on March 5, 1953, Mrs. Page was the daughter of the late Clyde and Elizabeth Potts Arnold.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. William Whitfield officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Page is survived by her husband, Dwight Page, Athens; one son, Travis Page, Athens; two daughters, Tiffany Barnett and Terri Dalton, both of Athens; three brothers, Frankie Arnold, Hope Arnold and James Arnold, all of Athens; and five grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Dennis McWilliams
Dr. Dennis McWilliams, 51, of Eatonton, formerly of Commerce, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at his residence of a sudden illness.
Dr. McWilliams was a member of Commerce First Baptist Church, where he served as organist for 26 years. He was superintendent of the Putnam County School System and was past assistant superintendent of Commerce City Schools. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, Eatonton.
Dr. McWilliams received his doctorate from the University of Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at Commerce First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Stowe officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Dr. McWilliams is survived by his wife, Beth S. McWilliams, of the home; his mother, Nettie Mae McWilliams, Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, Kiah and Ruth McWilliams, Hamilton; daughter and son-in-law, Holley and Jason Mullis, Commerce; and grandchildren, Sean Mullis, Erik Mullis and Dylan McWilliams.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard A. Spinks Sr.
Richard Autry Spinks Sr., 65, of Jefferson, died Saturday, June 12, 2004.
Mr. Spinks was born in Cobb County, a son of the late Harvey Hoyt and Myrtice Westbrooks Spinks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Phillips Spinks.
Mr. Spinks was retired from Union Camp Corporation.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Terry Hagwood officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Lawrenceville. R.J. Jones, John Darling, Kenneth Peppers, Charles Peppers, Jason Phillips and Larry Caughman served as pallbearers.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Brady Eric Spinks and Linda, and Richard Autry Spinks Jr. and Dawn, all of Jefferson, and Robert Frank Spinks and Kelly, Loganville; sisters, Katherine Kanigge, Minnesota, and Alma Deaton, Tucker; brothers, Roy Lee Spinks, Atlanta, and Harvey Houston Spinks, Newnan; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Hill
Mrs. Ruby Lankford Hill, 92, of the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston, formerly of Danielsville, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Mrs. Hill was born in Madison County on March 24, 1912. She was a daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Mary Jean Bennett Lankford.
She was a homemaker and a member of Franklin Springs Baptist Church. She also attended New Hope Worship Center.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Clifford (T.C.) Hill, a granddaughter, LeAnne Carey, a brother, Charlie Lankford, and two sisters, Gennie Sheridan and Georgia Hill.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the Franklin Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Mitchell Carey, Danielsville; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, DiAnne C. and Billie J. Tribble, Nicholson; great-granddaughters, Bonnie and Kerri Stith, Danielsville; sister, Dessie Hill, Royston; and 11 nieces and nine nephews.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Waldroup
Ralph Waldroup, 84, of Commerce, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his residence.
Born May 25, 1920, in Jackson County, Mr. Waldroup was the son of the late Sam and Cors Chastain Waldroup.
Mr. Waldroup retired from Harmony Grove Mill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Christine Wood Waldroup.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Lonnie Bennett, Tim Garrett and Carlton Peters officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Waldroup and Mike Waldroup, both of Ila; one daughter, JoAnn “Jody” Scoggins, Ila; one sister, Katie Mae Wilson, Charleston, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary S. Guffin
Mrs. Mary Syble Guffin, 68, of Winder, died Monday, June 7, 2004.
Born in Barrow County, Mrs. Guffin was a daughter of the late Howard J. and Rosa Mae Deaton Borders. She was the wife of the late Billy Guffin.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in Smith’s Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder. Burial was in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Randal and Kay Guffin and Ronald and Robin Guffin, all of Winder; brothers, Tillman Borders, Villa Rica, Bobby Borders, Jefferson, and Paul Borders, Winder; sisters, Peggy Cochling, Buford, and Frances Casper, Bethlehem; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Earl Cade
Earl Cade, of Oakwood, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Lanier Park Campus, Gainesville.
Mr. Cade was born on February 6, to Robert and Alice Cade in Kokomo, Ind. He was raised on the family farm, where he learned of his early love of animals. Farming a large portion on the family farm, he learned to love and appreciate the land.
Mr. Cade graduated from Kokomo High School in 1954, having been very active in athletics. He went on to receive a degree in engineering from Indiana University. While in Kokomo, Mr. Cade worked as an industrial engineer at Satellite for many years. Then, he started a business he loved called Cades Sporting Goods. He was active in sports, playing basketball, and he also helped establish the slow-pitch softball league in Kokomo.
Mr. Cade later moved to Gainesville, where he met and married his wife. They established The Gainesville Accounting Firm which they operated for 22 years.
“Earl loved to hunt,” said family members. “The deer that he killed were donated to help feed the less fortunate. There will be a great void in the hearts that knew him as a husband, daddy, grandfather and great-grandfather.”
Mr. Cade was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Hight, and a special aunt, Alta Bell.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Revs. Fred Wilson, Larry Buffington and Mike Palmer officiating. Burial was in New Holland Cemetery.
Mr. Cade is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gwen Cade, Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Jack Hight, Galveston, Ind., and Tammy and Pat Crumley, Kokomo, Ind.; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Darla Cade, Kokomo, Ind., and Tracy and Jinni Gooch, Jefferson; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial Park Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Highfield
Marvin Highfield, 60, of Winder, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004.
Born in Jackson County, Mr. Highfield was a son of the late Ben and Marion Porter Highfield.
He was self-employed in underground utilities.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17, in Smith’s Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Gordon Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Highfield is survived by his wife, Lynda Conner Highfield, Statham; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Lisa Everett, Montgomery, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Katy and Van Cooper, Statham; grandchildren, Conner Cooper, Josh Everett and Heather Pritchett; brothers, Horace Highfield, Statham, Tony Highfield, Bishop, Benny Highfield, Lithonia, William Highfield and Lamar Highfield, both of Commerce, and Dennis Highfield, Athens; and sister, Sally Wood, Jefferson.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
