MRS. BRIGGS
Retired beautician
CAMPHILL, PA. - Mrs. Martha Marlene Adams Briggs, 87, formerly of Cornelia, died Saturday, September 30, 2000, at a private retirement home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Briggs was born March 24, 1913, in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late L.A. and Mamie Landers Adams.
Mrs. Briggs was a retired beautician and was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Crawford Briggs.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 4, in Clarkesville Memorial cemetery with the Rev. Billy Burrell officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Gallagher, Cornelia, and Eileen B. Hollowbush, Camphill, Pa.; one brother, Harvey Adams, Clarkesville; one sister, Bernice Pisano, Clarkesville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cornelia Elementary Media Center, 375 Old Cornelia Highway, Cornelia, GA 30531.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. WILLIAMS
Funeral services for Henry Williams, Commerce, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 5, at Black Springs Baptist Church, Commerce, with the Rev. Mark Thomas officiating.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mason Funeral Home, Commerce.
Mr. Williams is survived by three sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Alpha) Walker, Mr. and Mrs. William (Margaret) Farris and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby (Jeannette) Sims; two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mason Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Weldon F. Jones
Weldon F. Jones, 92, of Commerce, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at BJC Medical Center.
Mr. Jones was born February 1, 1908, in Hall County. He was a son of the late Warren and Ada Ivey Jones.
Mr. Jones was retired from Harmony Grove Mill and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 23, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Curtis Hammond, Dennis Kesler and Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Ester Lynch Jones; one son, Gene Jones, Nicholson; two daughters, Betty Carithers, Nicholson, and Lucille McDonald, Jefferson; one sister, Ruby Lord, Danielsville; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roger D. Anthony
Roger Dewitt Anthony, 74, of Commerce, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Anthony was born March 7, 1926, in Commerce. He was a son of the late Ardell and Ethel Howington Anthony.
Mr. Anthony was a carpenter. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Katherine Hill, and a sister, Louise Manley.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 25, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Anthony is survived by his wife, Frances L. Anthony; one son, Jimmy Ardell Anthony, Commerce; three daughters, Deborah S. Benton, Danielsville, Julie Cooper, Maysville, and Wanda Kay Giddons, Commerce; one sister, Annie Lou Manley, Jefferson; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary S. Sherard
Miss Mary Susan Sherard, 96, of Commerce, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Athens Heritage Nursing Home.
Miss Sherard was born September 10, 1903, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Neal and Mary Susan Anderson Sherard.
Miss Sherard was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Sherard.
A memorial service was held Monday, July 24, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Don Paulson officiating.
Survivors include one brother, Wiley Sherard, Suffolk, Va.; two nephews, Christopher Sherard and Sammy H. Sherard, both of Suffolk, Va.; and a cousin, Walter Freeman, Danielsville.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sara F. Anthony
Mrs. Sara Frances Anthony, 51, of Tignall, died Sunday, July 23, 2000.
Born in Jackson County, Mrs. Anthony was a daughter of the late George Thomas and Mary Helen Bennett.
She had lived in Jackson County for most of her life and worked as a beautician.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Elmer Butler and Mitch Elder and Pastor Patsy Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Mrs. Anthony is survived by her husband, Mike W Anthony; one daughter, Kimberly Michele Anthony, Tignall; four sons, Neal Cox and Greg Cox, both of Winterville, Scott Cox, Carnesville, and David Cox, Nicholson; two sisters, Tina Kujaneck, Winterville, and Charlotte Boyd, Carnesville; two brothers, George Bennett, Commerce, and Tommy Bennett, Marietta; 16 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Virginia Bennett
Mrs. Virginia Bennett, 74, of Commerce, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at BJC Medical Center.
Mrs. Bennett was born January 26, 1926, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Tom and Neta Hayes Bennett.
Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 26, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Donald Wilson and Willie Herring officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Methodist Church cemetery, Royston.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Bennett, Commerce, and William Floyd Bennett, Woodstock; two sisters, Annie Bell Scoggins and Gladys Waters, both of Commerce; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Blondean J. P. McGaha
Mrs. Blondean James Porterfield McGaha, 88, of Danielsville, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at St. Mary's Long Term Care in Athens.
Mrs. McGaha was born May 13, 1912, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Hayden James and Ossie James.
Mrs. McGaha graduated from Royston High School and had worked in the textile industry as an inspector and seamstress. She attended Bluestone Baptist Church.
Mrs. McGaha was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Porterfield, and her second husband, Roscoe McGaha.
Graveside services were held Monday, July 24, in the Zidon Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Mike Hudmon officiating. Bron Porterfield, Derek Porterfield, Kevin Porterfield, Todd Porterfield, Ryan Porterfield and Roxanne Richardson served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one son, J.H. "Jimmy" Porterfield, Danielsville; two sisters, Catherine Haley, Sandy Cross, and Elinor Hoffman, Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.

Dianne D. Smith
Mrs. Dianne Dills Smith, 46, Athens, died Saturday, July 22, 2000.
A native of the Athens area, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of Betty Thurmond and the late Amos E. Faulkner.
She was a 1972 graduate of Madison County High School and had worked as office manager for G. Michael Smith and Associates, CPAs. Mrs. Smith was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church, Athens, and had formerly served as president of the Athens Gideons Auxiliary. She was also a founding member of the Athens Legal Secretaries Association.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, Pledger Dills and Tim Brown, and a grandmother, Janie Dills.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 25, at Beech Haven Baptist Church with the Revs. John Walker and Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Danny Dills, Randall Brewer, Dwayne Roberts, Vernon Potts, James Thomas McDonald and Jeff Whelchel served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Weldon Hardman, David Kilgore, Joel Tench, Alex Mazeika, John Snyder, Mike Wilson, Phil Sheffield and John O'Kelly.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, G. Michael Smith; two daughters, Staci Smith and Paige Smith; step-father, Paul Thurmond; step-mother, Jesteen Faulkner; grandfather, Curtis A. Dills Sr.; eight brothers, Curtis A. Dills Jr., David Dills, Roger Dills, Jerry Dills, Stanley Brown, Mark Brown, Greg Faulkner and Patrick Faulkner; and six sisters, Hazel Brewer, Jeanett McDonald, Shirley Roberts, Martha Whelchel, Carolyn Hill and Kathy Beasley.
Memorials may be made to the Beech Haven Youth Ministry Building Fund, 2390 W. Broad Street, Athens, GA 30606, Camp Maranatha Inc., P.O. Box 53, Ila, GA 30647, or to the Neighborhood Gospel Ministries, P.O. Box 789, Jefferson, GA 30549.

MR. DEWATERS
Supervisor
COMMERCE - Michael John Dewaters, 47, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Dewaters was born June 21, 1953, in Staten Island, N.Y. He was a son of Marion Moerlins Dewaters, Commerce, and the late Arthur Dewaters.
Mr. Dewaters was employed as a supervisor at Athena Warehouse, Athens. He attended Pleasant Acres Baptist Church, Maysville.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Harold Milsap officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Mr. Dewaters' son, Michael Arthur Dewaters, Commerce, served as honorary pallbearer. Pallbearers were Thomas Dewaters, George Sweet, Thomas Wood, Eric Hall, Lewis Hall and Ron Graham.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and son, include his wife, Lisa Juanita Dewaters; one daughter, Dena Rae Dewaters, Commerce; step-father, John Dewaters, Commerce; four brothers, Arthur Dewaters, Florida, Don Dewaters, New London, Conn., Raymond Dewaters, Louisiana, and Thomas Dewaters, Commerce; and two sisters, Deann Dewaters, Hull, and Dorinda Hall, Dry Pond.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
