MRS. GATCHELL
Attorney
MARIETTA - Mrs. Joyce Diane Gatchell, 51, formerly of Jefferson, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gatchell was born in Clarke County, a daughter of the late James Everett and Janie Harbin Poe.
She was an attorney and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, Athens. Mrs. Gatchell was also a member of the Georgia Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with Dr. Gerald Mitton officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson.
Mrs. Gatchell is survived by one son, Evan Gatchell, Marietta; one daughter, Alison Laura Gatchell, Marietta; step-father, Thomas Poe, Marietta; and one brother, Lewis F. Everett, Oviedo, Fla.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. BALES
Grey Hill cemetery rites
MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Ruby S. Bales, 71, died Monday, August 7, 2000, at BJC Hospital, Commerce.
Mrs. Bales was born July 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Wiley and Lena Baker Redmon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Bales.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Jeff Appling and Swayne Carlan officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Bales is survived by two sisters, Imogene Redmon and Viola Redmon, both of Maysville; and a number of nephews.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. GANN
Center UMC member
WINDER - Mrs. Vera Gann, 82, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000.
Born in Jackson County, Mrs. Gann was a daughter of the late Clyde and Margie Reynolds.
A former resident of Braselton, she had resided in Winder since 1960, and was a member of Center United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 3, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Howard Banks officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Fork Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Carlyle, Lenoir City, Tenn.; two sons, Neal Watkins, Homer, and Bobby Watkins, Hoschton; one brother, Horace Richardson, Braselton; two sisters, Mildred McNeal, Hoschton, and Frankie Holland, Jefferson; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. TENCH
Howington cemetery rites
ATHENS - Mrs. Mary Jane Tench, 83, died Monday, August 7, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Tench was born December 20, 1916.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Tench, and her husband, Claude Poss.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Howington Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Lewis Tench, Athens; one brother, Quillan Tench, Baldwin; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MATHIS
Jefferson native
COLUMBIA, ALA. - Mrs. Ada Alexander Mathis, 88, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Hospice House Woodside in Pavilion Park, St. Petersburg, Fla.
A native of Jefferson, Mrs. Mathis was a graduate of Martin Institute.
She had moved to Miami, Fla., over 50 years ago.
Mrs. Mathis was a seamstress.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 19, at the First Christian Church in Jefferson.
Survivors include one son, Harrison Mathis Jr., Columbia, Ala.; one daughter, Sandy Rex, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Storey, Statesboro, and Anelle Owensby, Jefferson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local hospice of one's choice.

MR. HERRING
Retired pharmacist
ANDERSON, S.C. - Edward Patrick (E.P.) Herring, 82, a retired pharmacist, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center, Anderson, S.C., following a long illness.
A native of Clarkesville, Mr. Herring was a son of the late Elijah Patrick and Julia Ann Herring.
He was the owner of Herring's Pharmacy in Hapeville for 21 years, later retiring from Anderson Hospital. Mr. Herring was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson, and a member of the Jerry Neal Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wilford Gwynn Herring.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, in the chapel of McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, S.C. Burial was in the Nimblewill Baptist Church cemetery, Lumpkin County, on Saturday, August 5.
Mr. Herring is survived by his wife, Ann Cronan Herring; two sons, Edward Lee Herring, Maysville, and Matthew Patrick Herring, Anderson, S.C.; one daughter, Sarah Catherine "Katie" Herring, Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Nellie Dover, Clarkesville; two brothers, Floyd Herring and W.S. Herring, both of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Kim Savage, Maysville, and Andy Conners and Jamee Gilson, both of Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, P.O. Box 49416, Atlanta, GA 30359, or to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 4125, Anderson, S.C. 29622.
McDougald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, while Banister Funeral Home, Dahlonega, was in charge of local arrangements.

MR. BURILES
Mechanic
JEFFERSON - James Edward "Jimbo" Buriles, 35, died Tuesday, August 8, 2000, in Banks County following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Buriles was born in Barrow County, a son of Bobby A. and Sheila Venable Satterfield.
He was employed as a mechanic and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 10, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Hulon Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery. Robert Tucker, George Wilbanks, Clifford Smith, Timmy Hicks, Jamie Hicks and Kevin Chambers will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Buriles is survived by his parents.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Evans Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MR. RAMEY
Father of six
OAKWOOD - William Vaughn Ramey, 76, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000.
Mr. Ramey was born March 28, 1924, in Rabun County. He was a son of the late Nat Ramey and Evie Lee Simmons.
Mr. Ramey had been employed with Wayne Brothers and was of the Baptist denomination. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bingham Ramey.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, in the chapel of Daniels Mortuary, Clayton, with the Rev. J.C. Quilliams officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. James Ramey, Gregg Cofer, William Russell, Tom Anderson, Jason Timms, Billy O'Shields and Larry O'Shields served as pallbearers.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, William Earl and Laura Ramey, Alto, James Leonard and Chellye Ramey and Glenn and Bernice Ramey, all of Flowery Branch, and Norman and Marie Ramey, Buford; son, Steve Douglas Ramey, Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Sue and Thomas Russell, Oakwood; one brother, Bobby Ramey, Tiger; four sisters, Marie O'Shields, Calhoun, Pauline Volyes, Toccoa, Betty York, Martin, and Louise Williams; seven grandchildren, Rose Louise Wisnswki, Toccoa, Anglea Paulette Cofer, Gainesville, Jenifer Lynn Fortner, Jefferson, and James Leonard Ramey Jr., Rebecca Marie Ramey, Pamela Louise Ramey and Joshual Norman Ramey; and four great-grandsons.
Daniels Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

MR. IVEY
World War II veteran
WINDER - Preston Ivey, 79, died Monday, August 7, 2000.
Born in Walton County, Mr. Ivey was a son of the late John and Louise Davis Ivey.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Ivey had resided in Barrow County for the past 54 years, and was a retired painter and of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Joel Shadburn and Kenneth Mathews officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ivey is survived by his wife, Winfred Ivey; one son, Douglas Ivey, Ila; three sisters, Betty Turner, Greenville, S.C., Mary James, Griffin, and Lynette Taylor, Monroe; two brothers, Horace Ivey, Monroe, and Harris Ivey, Winder; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. TRAMMELL
Korean War veteran
ATHENS - George W. Trammell, 71, died Tuesday, August 8, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Trammell was a son of the late Willie Oscar and Ruby Jarrett Trammell.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from Seaboard Farms and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Mr. Trammell was preceded in death by a sister, Clarsy Childs, and a brother, Charles Trammell.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 10, at Victory Baptist Church with the Revs. Elmer Butler, Wayne Ghann and Stephen Coomes officiating. Dale Perry, Robert Cunningham, Waymon Hollis, William Trammell, Jerry Nelm and Jeff Evans will serve as pallbearers. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the time of the service.
Mr. Trammell is survived by his wife, Charline Jordan Trammell; three daughters, Edie Frisbey, Oxford, Susie Owensby, Madison, and Carolyn Smith, Athens; one son, George Timothy Trammell, Walnut, Miss.; two sisters, Margie Lord, Hoschton, and Mary Frances Luke, Bogart; one brother, Bruce A. Trammell, Athens; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 4030 Danielsville Road, Athens, GA 30601.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bridges Funeral Home, Athens.
