MRS. COWART
Mother of three
ARCADE - Mrs. Willie Belle Cowart, 70, died Friday, August 18, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Cowart was born May 21, 1930, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Addie Mae Baxter Jordan.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 20, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Donald Wilson and Jimmy Owensby officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Jeffery Allen Cowart, Nicholson; two daughters, Barbara Ann Cowart and Lois Flynn, Winterville; one brother, Eugene Lenward Jordan, Alto; and two sisters, Geraldine Jordan and Sara Dell McKie, both of Commerce.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dewey R. Kelley
Dewey Rose Kelley, 50, of Colbert, died Thursday, January 13, 2000.
Mr. Kelley was born in Madison County, a son of the late Bunyan Monore and Flora Garrett Kelley.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during Vietnam, and had been employed with Fowler Products Company. Mr. Kelley was of the Baptist denomination.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 17, in the Collier Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating.
Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Faye Damron, Colbert, and Addie Cloe Hill, Holly Hill, Fla.; and one brother, Reuben Ben Kelley, Elberton.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Maddox
Mrs. Margaret Maddox, 79, of Danielsville, died Thursday, January 13, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Maddox was a daughter of the late Russell Collie and Lottie Quillan Landers Carithers.
She was retired from Colbert Manufacturing Company and was of the Baptist denomination.
Mrs. Maddox was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Maddox.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the Meadow Baptist Church cemetery. Jeff Dillard, Shane Smith, Walter Smith, Tommy Dillard, Edward Duncan and Darral Scoggins served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Dillard, Danielsville; two sisters, Alma Parham, Comer, and Mary Ann Rigby, Jonesboro; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Travis Simmons
Travis Simmons, 75, of Commerce, died Friday, January 14, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Simmons was born July 10, 1924 in Homer.
He had been employed with Garrison Brothers Lumber Company and was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Leroy Chastain and Tom Garrett officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Simmons; five sons, David Simmons, Samuel Ray Simmons, Thomas Elex Simmons and Travis Simmons Jr., all of Commerce, and Jimmy Gregg Simmons, Columbia, S.C.; six daughters, Julia Echols and Carol Parr, both of Danielsville, Angela Elrod, Homer, Shirley Samples, Hull, and Rita Seabolt and Belinda Simmons, both of Commerce; one brother, George Husley, Helen; 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice W. Saxton
Mrs. Beatrice Williams Saxton, 80, of Nicholson, died Monday, January 17, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Saxton was born January 25, 1919, in Clarke County. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Margie Cody Saxton.
Mrs. Saxton was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 19, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Troy Herbert officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens.
Survivors include two daughters, Glinda Blalock, Nicholson, and Marian Wheless, Danielsville; four sisters, Rachel Andrews and Grace Brook, both of Athens, Betty Fort, Charleston, S.C., and Daisy Tantsley, Savannah; four granddaughters, Kim Butler, Colbert, Beverly Gaddis, Nicholson, Donna Smith, Danielsville, and Cindy Stancil, Jefferson; one grandson, Mitch Wheless, Danielsville; and 10 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Dustin and Bryson Temple, all of Colbert, Jonathon Stancil, Jefferson, Brandon Smith, Crawford, Justin Smith and Jessica, Whitney and Austin Wheless, all of Danielsville, and Holly Gaddis, Nicholson.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. B.H. Barrett
The Rev. B.H. Barrett, 82, of Danielsville, died Saturday, January 15, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Barrett had lived in the Danielsville area for most of his life. He was a son of the late Evie Sorrells and E.B. Barrett Sr.
Mr. Barrett was a retired minister, having served many churches in the northeast Georgia area.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Tim Barrett and Mark Anderson and Chaplain Mark Fite officiating. Burial was in Ila Cemetery. Joe Sullens, Mark Quattlebaum, Terry Ford, Clay Caudell, Lamertine Bond and James Wofford served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Lunice Bond Barrett, Ila; two daughters, Deanne Sullens, Williamston, S.C., and Bonda Owens, Piedmont, S.C.; one son, Tim Barrett, Gainesville; one sister, Evie Lee Lowry, Rocky Face; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Collins
Robert J. Collins, 65, of Conyers, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000.
Mr. Collins was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War, and was a retired tool and die maker. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 14, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Preston Sanders officiating. Burial was in the Mount Pleasant Church cemetery, Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Collins; two sons, Travis Collins and Stuart Collins, both of Conyers; three sisters, Mary McCannon, Colbert, Judy Childs, Carlton, and Jackie Bridges, Comer; two brothers, Donald Collins, Stroh, Ind., and Leonard Collins, Carlton; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1 Corporate Square, Suite 127, Atlanta, GA 30329.

Vennie R. Findley
Mrs. Vennie Ruth Abercrombie Findley, 83, of Royston, died Saturday, January 15, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Findley was a daughter of the late Gordon M. and Clara Brown Abercrombie.
She was retired from Westclox Company and was a member of Vanna United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Findley was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Steven "Steve" Findley, and a daughter, Barbara Ann Findley.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 18, in the chapel of Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Frank Owens and Sharon Waters officiating. Burial was in the Vanna United Methodist Church cemetery. Jeff Harris, Roy Hill, Andy Findley, Todd Hill, Josh Fleeman, Brian Fleeman and Nick Harris served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one daughter, Ola Hill, Royston; three sons, Donald J. Findley, Royston, Billy L. Findley, Monroe, N.C., and Charles A. Findley, Hartwell; and three half-brothers, Talmadge Abercrombie, Elberton, and J.W. Abercrombie and Hubert Abercrombie, both of Royston.

Frances E. Patterson
Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Patton Patterson, 75, of Hull, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Madison County, a daughter of the late Joe and Susie Sorrow Patton.
She was retired from Colbert Manufacturing and was a member of Hull Baptist Church. Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her husband, Coile Patterson, and a brother, James Patton.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 18, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Randy Crowe and Steven Bryant officiating. Burial was in the Colbert City Cemetery. Frank Tyner, Daryl Tyner, David Tyner, Jason Cook, George Patton and Terry Patton served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two sons, Tim Patterson and Bob Patterson, both of Hull; two sisters, Betty Jasper, Augusta, and Carolyn Smith, Hull; one brother, Harold Patton, Augusta; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Garnett D. Mitchell
Garnett Diemmer Mitchell, 79, of Colbert, died Sunday, August 20, 2000.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Mitchell was a son of the late Guy L. and Inez Sims Mitchell.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired farmer. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Winterville Baptist Church, where he served as former deacon, and was a member of the Lions Club.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 22, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Lamar Davis officiating. Burial was in the Winterville Cemetery.
Survivors include three sisters, Guy Nell Davis, Winterville, Gene Martin, Watkinsville, and Betty Winningham, Summerville, S.C.; and one brother, Doyle Mitchell, Monroe.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, was in charge of arrangements.

Rachel C. Floyd
Mrs. Rachel Chambers Floyd, of Comer, died Monday, August 21, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Floyd was born April 29, 1929, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Thurman C. and Ethel Hart Chambers.
Mrs. Floyd was of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Velton Hix Sr., a son, David Walter Hix, and two brothers, Haskel Chambers and Walter Chambers.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 24, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Mel Heggwood officiating. Burial will be in the Meadow Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Floyd's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Floyd is survived by her husband, Robert J. Floyd; two sons, Velton Hix Jr., Comer, and George T. Hix, Memphis, Tenn.; three daughters, Brenda Hix Hall and Teresa Hix Young, both of Comer, and Joyce Hix Adriano, Rincon; one step-daughter, Debbie Floyd Davis, Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Jo Chambers Hix, Comer; grandchildren, Velton Hix III, David V. Hix, Cory P. Coile, Dr. W. Shawn Conwell, M.D., Michael R. Young Jr., Jerry Hall Jr., Kevin Conwell, Michael Adriano, Ramon Adriano, Walter D. Hix, Robert K. Cumberland, Clifton A. Cumberland, Keddy Hix Bruce, Amanda Hix Young, Debra Hall Gray, Olivia Joan Hall, Kimberly Conwell Hawkins, Teresa Adriano Barnard, Becky Campbell, Tracy Petan and Cynthia David; and 29 great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
