Mr. Earl W. Richmond, 87, of Stockton Road, Port Charlotte, Florida, died Sunday, August 30, 1998 at Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Mr. Richmond was born Feb. 26, 1911 in St. Charles, MI, and was the son of Loren Richmond and Caroline Rappley Richmond. He was retired with 38 years of service from General Motors Central Foundry where he worked as a mechanic.

A funeral will be Sept. 5, 1998 in Michigan.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Richmond, of Port Charlotte, Florida; daughters, Mrs. Frank (Betty) O'Brien of Port Charlotte, Florida; Mrs. Don (Carol) Shindorf of Brant, MI, and Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Weber of Wellston, MI; sons, Gerald E. and Grace Richmond of Chesaning, MI, Melvin L. and Eileen Richmond of AuGres, MI and James T. and Mary Anne Emeott of Newnan; brothers, Meryl Richmond of Birch Run, MI and William Richmond of Glandwin, MI; sister, Dorothy Suppes of Hemlock, MI.

Mr. George Paige Shell, 80, of Lynch Road, Turin, Ga. died Monday, August 31, 1998 at Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Mr. Shell was born Oct. 7, 1917.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 1 from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. at McKoon's. Burial will be in Turin Memorial Garden. Further details will be announced later.

John R. West

Mr. John R. West, 76, of Austin Street, Newnan, died Sunday, August 30, 1998 at Hospice LaGrange.

Mr. West was born April 7, 1922 in Coweta County, son of William Yates West and Fannie McGee West. He was a general contractor and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II as a B-24 Engineer.

Memorial contributions may be made to LaGrange Hospice, 1510 Vernon Rd., LaGrange, Ga. 30240.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Fields and the Rev. John Riley officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road in Newnan. Pallbearers will be Noel Laseueur, Paul E. Hartzog Jr., Bobby Jacobs, Ronald Jacobs, David Perry and Steven West.

Survivors include his wife, Florence West of Newnan; daughter, Roberta W. Ayers of Irmo, S.C.; sisters, Bonnie Lassetter, Dean Perry and Sara Rea, all of Newnan; brother, William C. West of Newnan; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Mr. George Douglas Pitts, 70, of Roberts Road in Newnan died Aug. 31, 1998 at Hospice LaGrange.

Born Jan. 9, 1928 in Lee County, Ala., Mr. Pitts was the son of the late David Frank Pitts and Annie Bryant Pitts. He was retired from Shaw Industries and the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 14 years.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willard Dean and the Rev. Doug Pitts officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Thomas Perry, David Perry, Delmos Perry, Michael Perry, Kevin Tidwell and Lee Woodruff as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Hannah and Perry Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Pitts of Newnan; daughters, Sharon Hannah, Jo-Ann P. Hendrix, Helen E. Mapp, all of Newnan, Rebecca Price of Franklin; sons, Doug Pitts of Newnan, Ronald James Pitts of Phoenix, Ariz. and 11 grandchildren.

Mr. George Page Shell, 80, of Turin died Aug. 31, 1998 at his residence.

Mr. Shell was born Oct. 7, 1917, son of the late William George Shell and Lena Johnson Shell. He was the retired postmaster for Sargent and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WW II. He was a member of Turin Baptist Church.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. John McDuffie officiating. Burial will be at Turin Memorial Garden.

Survivors include his wife, Belle Shell of Turin; sisters, Helen Shell Harris of Turin, Frances Shell Kinder of Kingstree, S.C., and Jimmie Shell of Turin; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Susie Hale Shelton, 106 of Jim Starr Road in Newnan died Sept. 1, 1998 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Born Jan. 9, 1892 in Erin, Tenn., Mrs. Shelton was the daughter of the late John F. Edwards and Mary F. Edwards and the wife of the late John Scott Shelton Sr. She was retired from food service.

The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elwood Cemetery in Springfield, Tenn. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Payne of Newnan; son, John Scott Shelton Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Franklin Roosevelt Ellison, 54, of Newnan died Aug. 29, 1998 at South Fulton Hospital Hospice.

Born Nov. 11, 1943 in Coweta County, Mr. Ellison was employed by Ronald Jones for nearly 40 years.

The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel AME Church in Newnan, with the Rev. Clinton Melson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Melvin Henry and the Rev. R.W. Sutton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with Arthur Berry, Larry Johnson, Edward Reeves, Raymond Daniel and Monroe Parker as pallbearers.

Survivors include his sisters, Nora Kate Johnson, Louella Lay, both of Newnan, Ida Mae Moss of Atlanta, Nettie Ruth Artes of Detroit, Mich.; uncles Roosevelt Ogletree of Detroit; cousin, Julie Ellison of Pine Mountain; nieces and nephews.

Ms. Christine Lumpkin, 50, of Mapleton died Aug. 31, 1998. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Andrews Mortuary.

Mrs. Helen Owings Manis

Mrs. Helen Owings Manis, 72, of Rome died Sept. 4, 1998 after a long illness.

Born Aug. 5, 1926 in Gore, Ga., Mrs. Owings was the daughter of the late Henry Holbert Owings and Mattie Gaskin Owings. She was a graduate of Gore High School and West Georgia College and worked for Wheeler's Building Supply, the Manis family business.

Mrs. Manis was a member of Rome First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for more than 30 years. She volunteered with the American red Cross at Floyd Medical Center for 27 years.

The funeral will be Sunday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. at Rome First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Sargent and the Rev. Max Vincent officiating. The family will receive visitors Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the church's Family Life Center.

Survivors include her husband, Wheeler Jefferson Manis; daughter, Stan and Anna Manis Tabor of Chapel Hill, N.C.; sons, Mark W. Manis, James T. Manis, both of Rome; grandchildren, Elizabeth J. Tabor, Julianna T. Tabor, John W. Tabor, H. Garrett Manis, Wheeler R. Manis, Forrest J. Manis; sister, Betty J. Owings of Newnan; and brothers, Henry H. Ownings Jr. of Resaca and Howard L. Mr. Lloyd J. Oakes

Mr. Lloyd J. Oakes, 69, of Hogansville died Sept. 2, 1998 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Decatur.

Born Feb. 15, 1929 in Norwood, N.Y., Mr. Oakes was the son of the late James and Laura Dufore Oakes. A retired chief warrant officer, he served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, including service in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

Mr. Oakes received the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. He also was a retired carpenter.

The funeral was Friday at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Moon officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with full military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Gaddy Oakes of Hogansville; daughter, Cindy O. Lawson of LaGrange; grandchildren, Caroline Jean Norris, Amanda Sky Higgins, Joseph Russell Lawson; great-grandchildren, Zachary Boggs, Bradley Norris, all of LaGrange; four sisters and a brother.

Mr. Benny Ray Smith, 67 of Hogansville died Sept. 3, 1998 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born June 30, 1931 in Hogansville, Mr. Smith was the son of the late William Bussey Smith and Novella Watts Smith. He was retired from Douglas and Lomason Co. in LaGrange and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Mr. Smith was commander of the Hogansville American Legion Post and a member of Hogansville Golf Club.

The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with James Jabaley, Gerald Jabaley, Charles Maxwell, Bobby Knighton, Tommy Thrower and Ralph Pike as pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughter, Anne Brooks of Villa Rica; sister, Sara B. Smith of Statham; brothers Tyron Smith of Jonesboro, Franklin Smith of Macon; and grandsons, Tyler Pike and Austin Pike, both of Villa Rica.

Mr. William E. Cook, 75, of Red Oak died Aug. 28, 1998 at South Fulton Medical Center.

Born Oct. 15, 1922, Mr. Cook was the son of the late Carl Cook and Clara Brewster Cook. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

The funeral was Sept. 4 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Oliver Wood officiating. Family friends served as pallbearers.

Deacon Frank W. Wilks Sr., 82, of Johnson Avenue in Newnan died Sept. 1, 1998 at his home.

Born Oct. 15, 1915 in Newnan, Mr. Wilkes grew up and attended school in Newnan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Mr. Wilkes was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving as chairman of the deacon board, church treasurer and a Sunday School teacher.

The funeral was Sept. 5 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newnan, with the Rev. W.J. Wilson, assisted by the Rev. R.W. Sutton, the Rev. Clinton Melson and the Rev. Hamp Long. Burial followed at Eastview Cemetery with the Zion Hill Board of Deacons as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth L. Wilks; children, Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Flora) Goolsby, Frank Wilks Jr. of Atlanta; grandchildren, Adrienne Elizabeth Goolsby of Chicago, Ill., Genine Lashawn Wilks, Kelvin Wilks, both of Atlanta; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Born July 14, 1926 in Troup County, Mr. Galloway was the son of the late Delmar Wilkes Galloway and Arizona Murphy Galloway. He was a retired truck driver from Motor Convoy, a U.S. Marines veteran of WWII and a member of the Teamsters Union.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Smith and the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Burial will follow at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Madras.

Mr. John Patrick "Pat" Hubbard, 61, of Atlanta, formerly of Newnan, died Sept. 4, 1998 after a long bout with cancer.
Born Dec. 14, 1936 in Newnan, Mr. Hubbard was the son of the late Ewell J. Hubbard and Fannie Sue West Hubbard of Newnan. He was a retired sales engineer with Sony Electronics.
Mr. Hubbard was a pioneer in television broadcasting and production, where he worked for 31 years. He attended Georgia Tech and the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Hubbard was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church in Atlanta.
The funeral was Sept. 6 at Turner Funeral Home. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Bryan Hubbard of Atlanta, formerly of Franklin; daughter and son-in-law, Claire Hubbard Mann and Jack Mann of Lawrenceville; son and daughter-in-law, William Patrick Hubbard and Amy Sargent Hubbard of Fayetteville; grandson, Davis Patrick Hubbard of Fayetteville; twin brother, J. Born Jan. 23, 1923 in Hogansville, Mrs. Reid was the daughter of the late Robert Louie Caudle and Katie Huff Caudle and the wife of the late Hill Reid. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hogansville and a retired seamstress.
The funeral was Sept. 8 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Burial followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
