The Rev. Chester W. Burdette, 80, of Fayetteville died April 8, 1999.

Born March 21, 1919, The Rev. Burdette was a former pastor of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Coweta County and Pine Grove Baptist Church in Fayetteville and an associate pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 10, at C.J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home, with Dr. C.E. Jackson III, the Rev. Gene Minix, the Rev. Hershel Turner and the Rev. Alan Parker officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Burdette of Fayetteville; daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Margie) Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell (Helen) Goodman, all of Fayetteville, Mr. and Mrs. Allen (Marguerite) McCurry of Gainesville, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Julia) Goodpaster of Stockbridge, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Marilyn) Pullen of Newnan; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Chester (Vickie) Burdette Jr. of Aledo, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen (Rhonda) Burdette of Wetumpka, Ala.; brothers, Barney Hugh Burdette of Tyrone, Allen Burdette of Fayetteville; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Caldwell, 89, of Peachtree City died April 6, 1999 at Southwest Christian Hospice.

Born Sept. 8, 1909 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Caldwell was the daughter of the late William Thomas Barber and Alice Tidwell. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

The funeral will be Thursday, April 8, at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow at Elmore Cemetery in Senoia, with her grandsons as pallbearers.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas L. Caldwell of Roanoke, Ala., Harmon M. Caldwell of Senoia; daughter, Nancy E. Dunbar of Peachtree City; sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joel (Gladys) Reid of Rome; brother, James T. Barber of Florida; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Barber, Mary Barber, both of Luthersville, Gladys Barber of Manchester, Frank and Erma Jones of Morrow; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Laurine B. Robinson, 67, of LaGrange died April 9, 1999 at her home.

Born March 12, 1932 in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Robinson as the daughter of the late Enoch and Pearl Kittle Butler. She was a member of New Beginnings Full Gospel Church near Hogansville and was a retired quality control inspector for Mead Packing Company in Atlanta.

The funeral will be Sunday, April 11, at 4 p.m. at New Beginnings Full Gospel Church, with Dr. Randy Kennedy, the Rev. Jim Sanders and the Rev. Carl Jiles officiating. Burial will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.

Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Robinson of LaGrange; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Randy Kennedy of Perry; sisters, Ary Skinner of Franklin, Ora Driver of Hogansville, Cassie Brown of Graham, Ala., Judy Smartt of Tucker; brothers, Travis Butler of Cumming, Denson Butler of Franklin; and granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Priscilla Kennedy of Perry and Vanessa and Ken Johnson of Macon.

Mr. Clifford Raymond Derring

Mr. Clifford Raymond Derring, 74, of Asheville, N.C., died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at a health care center.

Mr. Derring was a native of Newnan, Ga. and son of the late James R. and Jannie Cook Derring. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Surviving are two sisters, Louise Dill and Leona Graham, both of Asheville; several nieces and nephews; other relatives.

Mr. Donald Lowery, 19, of Hwy. 34, Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, April 11, 1999 at his residence.

Mr. Lowery was born in Newnan February 22, 1980.

A funeral will be Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mr. Hubert Smith Sr.

Mr. Hubert Smith Sr., 82, of Chattanooga, TN, died April 5, 1999 after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 21, 1916 in Newnan, Ga. to the late Thomas and Topsie Smith. He relocated to Chattanooga where he met and married the late Louise Dobbs, who preceded him in death. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority where he retired in 1981. Mr. Smith was also a farmer, and he farmed until his health failed. He was a member of the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.

A funeral was April 10, 1999 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Ooltewah, TN. The Rev. Lamar Gilbert officiated, and burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Richard Smith, Robert Herkey, Benjamin Conner, Eddie Davis, Cass T. Power and Harold Smith.

Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Doggett (Frank), Jacqueline McCain, Linda G. Hall (Jimmy) all of Chattanooga, and Linda F. Baldwin of Nashville, TN; two sons, Hubert Smith Jr. and Toney Smith; step-daughter, Mildred Allison; three sisters, Georgia Mae Harvey of Atlanta, Marion Morris of Newnan, and Bessie Mae Adriene of Rockmont, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mattie Sprayberry

Mrs. Mattie Sprayberry, 94, of Columbus Circle, Newnan, died Saturday, April 10, 1999 at her residence.

Mrs. Sprayberry was born Oct. 14, 1904 in old Campbell County, Georgia. She was the retired owner of Sprayberry's Barbecue in Newnan. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel and Mattie Thomas Lambert. She was the widow of Houston W. Sprayberry, and together they started Sprayberry's as an outgrowth of a small grocery store they operated on Jackson Street.

A funeral was held Monday at 3 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested contributions be made to Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Ruth C. Webb, 75, of the Rocky Mt. Community, died Sunday, April 11, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Webb was born March 8, 1924 in Troup County, Ga., to Daniel Brown and the former Cola Alice Heard. She was a retired meat packer/ cooker with Hibrand Foods in Peachtree City. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

A funeral will be Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. Milton Winslett and the Rev. Terry Calhoun will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Surviving are her husband, Jack Webb of the Rocky Mt. Community; daughter, Delores Smith of Rocky Mt.; son, Larry Carter of Rocky Mt.; sisters, Mary Carter of Newnan and Ada Whitman of Heflin, Ala.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Born Nov. 19, 1910 in Coweta County, Mrs. Wyche was the daughter of the late James Wiley Newby and Martha Jane Brock Newby and the wife of the late A. Reid Wyche. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Mildred Ann Solomito Brazell, 71, died April 11, 1999 in Atlanta.

Born Jan. 11, 1928 in Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Brazell was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Hazel W. Solomito.

She attended Christine Elementary School, Humes Junior High School and Humes High School, graduating in 1946. She also attended Memphis State University and Memphis Academy of Arts.

A graveside service will be Thursday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn, with the Rev. Leo C. Holleran officiating.

Born Feb. 20, 1910, Lt.-Col. Wilkinson was retired from the U.S. Army. He was an elder for 40 years at Fayette Presbyterian Church and was a Mason, the 33-degree Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

The funeral will be Thursday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Fayette Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Black officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Park in Peachtree City.

Mrs. Gordie Mae Daniell Hanson, 90, of Rome, formerly of Sargent, died April 15, 1999.

Born Oct. 10, 1908 in Coweta County, Mrs. Hanson was the daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Daniell and the widow of the late Joseph R. Hanson. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Kansas Missionary Baptist Church in Douglas County.

The funeral will be Saturday April 17 at 1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Methodist Church Cemetery in Whitesburg.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Survivors include her daughter, Norma Jo Hanson of Rome; son, Charles Kenneth Daniell of Maysville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six sisters; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hubert Madison Holloway, 87, of Dahlonega, formerly of Newnan, died April 17, 1999 in Dahlonega.

Born Dec. 25, 1911 in Carroll County, Mr. Holloway was the son of the late John N. and Carrie Lola Norris Holloway and the husband of the late Thelma E. Wade Holloway. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Holloway was a member of Arnco Baptist Church and retired master machinist for Fulton Bag Cotton Mill in Atlanta.

The funeral will be Monday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home, with Elder David Richard Shirley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, with David A. Shirley, John N. Shirley, Ricky Carnes, Wes Carnes, Billy Carnes, Robert Weischedel and Chris Buchanan.

The family will receive visitors Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born Nov. 22, 1920 in Woodbury, Mrs. Moreland was the daughter of the late Dan Julia Chatman-Revel. She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma R. Davis; brother, Willie B. Revel; and daughter, Jacquelyn Moreland.

Mrs. Moreland was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Woodbury.

The funeral was Friday, April 16, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. D. Walker officiating, assisted by the Rev. Edward Harris. Burial was in Woodbury, with her grandsons, Corey Moreland, Donnell Moreland, Boris G. Clayton, Frederick "Ricky" Durrah, Perry Kendall Jr., James Perry II and Corey Boler as pallbearers.

Mrs. Gordie Mae Daniell Hanson

Mrs. Gordie Mae Daniell Hanson, 90, of Rome, Ga. and formerly of Sargent, Ga. in Coweta County, died Thursday, April 15, 1999 after a long illness.

Mrs. Hanson was a native of Coweta County and a retired textile worker from Arnall Mills in Sargent.

She was the widow of the late Joseph R. Hanson and the daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Daniell. After retirement Mrs. Hanson enjoyed caring for horses and tending to other chores on the farm where she lived with her daughter. She was a faithful member of Kansas Missionary Baptist Church in Douglas County.

A funeral was 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Newnan. Burial was at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Whitesburg. The Rev. Willard Dean officated.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Norma Jo Hanson Brannon of Rome, Ga.; son, Mr. Charles Kenneth Daniell of Maysville, Ga.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six sisters; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Evie Mae Johnson, 70, of West Hwy. 5, Whitesburg, Ga. died April 18, 1999 at her residence.

Mrs. Johnson was born July 22, 1928 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Rufus Henry and Annie Elizabeth Bryant Pollard. She was a retired bus driver for the Carroll County Board of Education with more than 22 years of service and was a member of the Rotherwood First Congregational Methodist Church. Besides her parents she was preceeded in death by a daughter, Delaine Arrington, two brothers William Pollard and Curtis Pollard, a sister Hattie Louise Pollard and a grandson Ronald Henry.

A funeral was Monday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Rotherwood First Congregational Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Henry and the Rev. Frank Humphery officiating. Burial was in the Whitesburg Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, James Benjamin Johnson; daughters, Sue Jordan of Roopville, Lottie and Eddie Rampley of Carrollton, Jane and Eddie Morris and Barbara and Ronnie Henry, all of Newnan, and Vickie Brown of Whitesburg; sons, Jimmy Johnson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Steve and Janie Johnson of Powder Springs; sisters, Lois Holdbrooks of Carrollton, Debbie Ellis of Bremen and Ethel Spradlin of Rome; brother, Gene Hughes of Bremen; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cleveland Blandenburg, 71, of Newnan died April 16, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1927 in Coweta County, Mr. Blandenburg was preceded in death by seven brothers, Rufus Blandenburg, James Blandenburg, L.D. Blandenburg, Milton Blandenburg, Robert Blandenburg, Elmon Blandenburg and Claud Blandenburg. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be Thursday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Felton James officiating, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Coleman. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, with Trent Geter, Marvis Blandenburg, Ronnie Blandenburg, Corey Blandenburg, Vincent Pritchett and Kevin Blandenburg as pallbearers.

Survivors include nine nieces; four nephews; great-nieces;great-nephews;great-great-nieces; great-great-nephews and cousins.

Mr. Ralph "The Mac" Smith

Mr. Ralph "The Mac" Smith, 52, of Hearthstone Drive in Newnan died April 16, 1999 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born May 24, 1946, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Charlie H. Smith Sr. and Mary Stevenson Smith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Smith.

Mr. Smith was a Vietnam veteran and a 1964 graduate of Central High School.

The funeral was April 20 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. J.T. Coleman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Hulon Kemp, The Rev. L. Warner and the Rev. G.B. Vaughn. Burial followed at Eastview Cemetery, with Bobby Mitchell, Tommy Avery, J.T. Hines, Hubert Smith, Leon Woods and Dexter McCrary as pallbearers.

Survivors include his son, LaMarco Ralph Zackery; sisters, Mary Lois, Charlsie, Nevelle; brothers, Charlie Smith Jr., Jan Murray Smith; aunts, Virginia Thompson, Clara Stevenson, Edwina Stevenson; uncles, James (Mary) Wavard, Rufus Stevenson, Lewis Stevenson, Edward (Mary) Stevenson, Hamilton Hall Sr.; nieces and nephews.
